Last 5 digits of your VIN number which is found in the door sill, under windshield etc. as far as hands free trunk, try swinging the foot left to right and maybe clean the sensors if they are dirty. It seems to always work on first try so, I’m not sure why it wouldn’t work for you.
Hi, I had a question about the maintenance of the 550i. I was told the V8 was not built well so comes with a lot of issues. I was just curious as to if this was true or not? Thanks for the help!
It is true for the pre-LCI cars, you don’t want those. They had lots of issues. LCI F10s seem to be much better built and solve most of the issues with earlier cars. You also get about 50 more horse power, so that’s a bonus. I’ve had mine for 2+ years and I’ve changed oil, spark plugs and coils and that’s it.
It’s a life cycle impulse, which is what BMW calls an update to the car half way through its cycle. For BMW 550 pre-LCI is 2009-2013and LCI are 2014-2017
This is an interesting one as the BMW doesn’t really tell us exactly. The in the terms and conditions it states they they will use TCU (telematic Control unit) which receives GPS signals as well as communication from wireless networks. So, the answer is basically it uses both.
None of the exterior features are standard, they're all optional and extra. But majority of the BMW vehicle's could be coded to activate most of the features, except for the kick to open the trunk, for this the vehicle needs an actual sensor, and powered tailgate option.
@@SimpleCarGuy you're welcome, and if i may add; if you are keeping this car i suggest getting the 6WB cluster, its the best mod you will enjoy. Its around 1100 $ new.
Not sure if it applies for 5 series but I know on the x5 some of these features are optional. But, I’m pretty sure if it’s optional on the x5 it should be the same on the 5 series. Also, I meant the f15 x5 and the f15 5 series.
I have a BMW 520d F10 - the front power windows just stopped working. The rear power windows still work fine. I would have assumed that if it was the fuse all 4 power windows would have stopped working simultaneously. Has anyone experienced anything similar, if so how did you fix it?
Never experienced anything like that, I would scan the car with a good bmw scanner (I have a video on my favorite one) and it’ll most likely tell you where the fault is.
It’s definitely not on all BMW 550s. You can check if you have the option in your iDrive menu or check BMW’s website: www.bmw.com/en/footer/compatibility-check.html
Yeah, you reinvented the wheel! Most of BMW have those features, hell even my 1998 BMW 524TD did all of that except of course the BMW App...and trunk thing
"Usually it takes actually a few minutes to send notification to the car". Hope it's not because otherwise this is nuts. I don't have ConnectedDrive and always wanted to get it retrofitted on my car. This video makes me thinking I had better of installing this. Never got it why do car manufacturers rely on callback internet solutions with a remote server side when you they could've used near-field communications. NFC is there without needing internet connectivity and gives you access right away. I believe BMW does support NFC control in its G series. If it doesn't, this is awkward.
I hope the new ones use NFC or similar technology because I wasn't kidding when I said that it takes at least a minute to reach the car. While I've used it a few times and like the feature, it's not practical for every day use.
@@SimpleCarGuy Yeah, BMW always had and still has problems with some of their electronics. Take the climate control panel with its pixel display like from early 70s. I kind of exaggerate this but BMW does have issues with some of their departments which seem to not doing their job as good as their engine department does.
Hi i find your video really helpful...amazing one One question...can dash camera be turned and used to record inside cars instead of outside? And how long does it take for the recordings of a dash camera to overwrite?

I have. a full video on this: ua-cam.com/video/uUdBEwJcPa4/v-deo.html
@@SimpleCarGuy I saw in the service records the oil filter gasket has been replaced. Not about the other things I'm going to look at it tomorrow. So would you say a 2013 with 80k miles is better then the 2011 with 48k miles?
@@SimpleCarGuy thanks for replying I definitely appreciate it. I've always had American muscle cars this would be my first experience with a luxury German vehicle.
@@donaldrobinson6298 Check the records and if those items are done, I'd go with the 48k 2011 instead of 80k 2013. Has the 80k one had it's 50-60k service done? There are a few factors you want to consider here. Glad I could help and if you have any questions, let me know!
@@SimpleCarGuy thanks for the info. I appreciate it.
Only works with LCI or pre facelift too?
Which one are you specifically looking at? Most of these are for LCI F10s
@@SimpleCarGuy I'm looking at pre LCI 535i. Bought one for $10k with no accidents, no signs of resprays, clean record, one owner, and only 70k km. Got a PPI and paint checked too. Everything is original. Was driven by a mom hahaha. Probably only ever visited groceries with it
That sounds like a pretty good deal. That’s a heck of a car for $10k. I know you’ll enjoy it.
Thanks for watching!
1) Regarding unlocking the menu where you have to enter the code...you said to enter the sum of the last 5 digits of the car. What are the last 5 digits of the car? 2) My hand-free trunk opening function, sometimes works and sometimes don't and most of the time, I have to put my foot under the car several times then it may work. Any advice?
Last 5 digits of your VIN number which is found in the door sill, under windshield etc. as far as hands free trunk, try swinging the foot left to right and maybe clean the sensors if they are dirty. It seems to always work on first try so, I’m not sure why it wouldn’t work for you.
Hi how do you get the code for the unlock feature for the dash?
The code is last 5 numbers of your VIN number added together.
Is the foot sweeping boot thing standard or do you need to spec it?
It was part of the comfort access as far as I understand, which came standard on my 2014 550i. I'm sure it's an option on 528i models etc.
I have issues it keeps saying coolen low and it’s not low
Hi, I had a question about the maintenance of the 550i. I was told the V8 was not built well so comes with a lot of issues. I was just curious as to if this was true or not? Thanks for the help!
It is true for the pre-LCI cars, you don’t want those. They had lots of issues. LCI F10s seem to be much better built and solve most of the issues with earlier cars. You also get about 50 more horse power, so that’s a bonus. I’ve had mine for 2+ years and I’ve changed oil, spark plugs and coils and that’s it.
Mine drinks oil. Runs great though.
Pre-LCI?
It’s a life cycle impulse, which is what BMW calls an update to the car half way through its cycle. For BMW 550 pre-LCI is 2009-2013and LCI are 2014-2017
@@BDBBailey bmw says its normal
How to get the code to unlock. You said sum of 5 digits. Can you please explain. Thanks in advance.
Add the last 5 digits of your VIN and then enter that number.
How does this car connect to the app?? Does the car have a cellular radio built in? How is data sent back and forth.
Most of these (like the tailgate option) come standard on LCI 550s.
Can I hv the app url ? Bmw connect app ?
link to the app?
CIC is the name of the infotainment of pre-lci F10, yours is called NBT. the instrument cluster is called KOMBI.
Thank you for clarifying!
@@SimpleCarGuy you're welcome, and if i may add; if you are keeping this car i suggest getting the 6WB cluster, its the best mod you will enjoy. Its around 1100 $ new.
Thank you, sir! I will definitely look into that. The car just ran out of warranty so I can start modifying more than just looks.
@@DrFadi6wb cluster? what's that?
Fun fact: 2013 is pre-LCI yet still uses NBT.
6:27 what kind of last 2 digits on car??
Of your VIN
Not sure if it applies for 5 series but I know on the x5 some of these features are optional. But, I’m pretty sure if it’s optional on the x5 it should be the same on the 5 series. Also, I meant the f15 x5 and the f15 5 series.
This car has luxury and winter packages.
What is the unlock code
The “secret menu” how do you figure out the code? Normally that’s a dealership thing ain’t it?
It’s the sum of the last 5 digits of your car’s VIN
What is thr name of the app?
Used to be called BMW Connected or something like that, but now it's "My BMW".
What do you mean the sum of the last five digits for your car?
I have a BMW 520d F10 - the front power windows just stopped working. The rear power windows still work fine. I would have assumed that if it was the fuse all 4 power windows would have stopped working simultaneously. Has anyone experienced anything similar, if so how did you fix it?
Never experienced anything like that, I would scan the car with a good bmw scanner (I have a video on my favorite one) and it’ll most likely tell you where the fault is.
you dont have to go up to the car to close windows again, just hold the lock button on your key :)
Not on the US spec cars!
@@SimpleCarGuy bad luck :( i had that on my 97 e39 also
is it the same code in every f10 and if not how can you find the code on it? :)
The code is the last 5 digits of you VIN added together
@@SimpleCarGuy If my vin was c572328---> try to chose 28 ? rught? It was not easy understand. ^^
@@wkb8409 yours would be 22. 7+2+3+2+8= 22.
Do these work with the 2011 F10??
Most of them should work, but you may not have the comfort access trunk or the app.
Probably this option for after 2011 models only my 2010 maybe not I goona have a look anyway
I’m so happy to see this thing because I have one ☝️ 535i BMW i didn’t know that. I thank you for teach me this lesson.🙏
I’m glad you learned something new about your car. Enjoy your BMW 535i!
Whts the code number for 535i
Might not work for all F10s. For my car, I get "This vehicle cannot be added. The embedded cellular technology is not supported".
What year is BMW f10? I'd be curious to look into this and report on the findings.
A Motorcycle Rider u also got a 2013?
Very thank u so much!
The things/tricks 1-4 in the video are matching the case: "what else you wouldn't know about your vehicle if you don't RTFM".
Not available app by AppStore
I have it....
It is just for IOS ?I have on playstore just BMW connected clasic and BMW motorrad connected
I’m not sure as I do not own an Android device. I don’t see a reason why it wouldn’t be available on Android
SimpleCarFun is the app free, i have to create account but it wants my Data and i‘m not sure if its free
The app is free, I didn’t have to pay anything at any point
Yes there is an Android version and yes it's free although BMW will try to sell you a load of stuff.
So my car is bmw520d and miles is 205.000 how long can drive it more
I’d love to help, but we don’t have 520d around here so I know nothing about them.
Does the app come with all the 550is
It’s definitely not on all BMW 550s. You can check if you have the option in your iDrive menu or check BMW’s website: www.bmw.com/en/footer/compatibility-check.html
Is mine an f10 series ? It’s. 2013 528i
What year is this 550i?
It’s a 2014 model year.
@@SimpleCarGuy what's model year mean... the 2013 had the 400hp engine then 2014 got the 445... is this the 445hp then?
Correct, the 445hp model.
Wat do you mean about last 5 digits of the vin?
You add the last 5 digits of your vin and use that as the unlock code
@@SimpleCarGuy u mean last five chassis number?
Yeah, you reinvented the wheel! Most of BMW have those features, hell even my 1998 BMW 524TD did all of that except of course the BMW App...and trunk thing
You can flash ur light by pressing your key fob. If u still can't find your car then it's stolen!!!
Hi i find your video really helpful...amazing one
One question...can dash camera be turned and used to record inside cars instead of outside? And how long does it take for the recordings of a dash camera to overwrite?
The one I have does not turn around, but it’s a duel camera set up so the other camera can be set up anywhere in the car. A better way would be to use one of these: amzn.to/316vE2T
Oh and mine records two cameras for about 3-4 days on a 32 gb sd card
@@SimpleCarGuy thanks a lot dear
@@SimpleCarGuy so u mean a dual camera can record happenings inside of car too?
Are the recordings stored on the computer or in the camera itself?
And it stops recording when engune is off right?
Thank you! I didn't know 4/5 of these. Awesome BMW F10!
weak its ECU a bit and you get (roughly) 240kw @ 325 PhB safely.
This is what i got. 3Liter/100km @ 80kmh & 8th gear.
Awesome momemtum.
With using manual transmission or at least DS option, you get safe, fast and good car.
x4 takes the edge off from power but over 300hp should be enough for most people irl.
In here YT nothing is enough though LOL :D
Thanks for the info in your comment !! I'm getting an 530xd and thinking to upgrade it to something like 300 or 310 hp. Its an automática tho... Not sûre if it's safe

(Just do not use any chips or ebay-stuff).
Let the professionals adjust gearbox ratio and turbo.
Automatic is really safe with 310Bhp if you want to be cautious.
I haven't had any problems so far with my current higher tweaks.
Only problems i have had, has been wheel support and bearings.
Cardan rubber joint and tilt stabilizer. Nothing engine related.
Just normal car wearing and maintenance 👌🚙

That’s strange. Every LCI F10 I’ve been around has had it.
How do you turn off the Cic menu?
You can go back to the main menu and it times out or cycle the ignition.
You can code your bmw and you will get a lots option.buy Carly programm and obd adapter or buy most popular in USA bimmercode programm and adapter.I used in my bmw F11 and G31.Works perfect.
That’s pretty cool, it’s a bit more expensive and has a yearly fee, but I’d pay that just to stop my Z4 from turning on start-stop function every time I start the car.
