There was once a Dooney & Bourke Outlet and they were run by the company, but they cut the tags the way your light colored bag’s tag is cut. They told me they did that to inactivate the warranty.
Thank you for performing this sadly much needed public service. Your video really helped me. Especially the suggestion to look for the words solid brass. Some bags are real but a growing trend I see are fake straps especially with vintage bags. Again thank you for sharing your expertise with us!!
I bought a Dooney and Bourke to resell about a year ago. I was too nervous to sell it ( I really don't sell a lot of purses), all signs point to it being real though. So yay! However I have started using it and kind of fell in love with it so I don't think I'll be selling it any time soon. Appreciated this video!
Yay, I'm so glad this video was helpful in authenticating your bag! Haha I completely understand, falling in love with it, and wanting to keep it rather than selling!!! 🤗
I just bought my first Dooney all-weather leather satchel bag today at my local thrift store! I didn’t know this brand before I found my bag, but I’ve been scouring the internet off since I’ve found out about this niche community!
Great video and super informative! I like how you had side-by-side real and fake of the same design. Also liked how you showed an authentic that was missing its tag but had other indicators it was real. Thanks!
Thank you for the explanation of these certain handbag’s and yes, I had gotten taken today. Like you I seen and snapped it up and waited till I had gotten to look at it better instead of the doing so with the frenzy of shoppers that were around me. I had found this one at a Goodwill store. And thanks to you, I had learned my lesson and will look more closely next time before committing to the purchase. It just saddens me that folks make these counterfeits and the true company is loosing money and well now with all of the higher end stores having people just blatantly stealing these products doesn’t help with people like us who wish to purchase, but are having a hard time because of the theft and the inflated prices now. Thanks again.
Buying vintage preloved is so stressful! I didn’t know for the longest time that dooney had fakes out there and got duped a few times. Thank you for the info!!
Some of the early pre-1983 bags don't have the made in usa cloth tags in them. They also have a different brass fob. It has the DB back to back. Thanks for the video
Thank you for the tips. I also learned today that the woven leather I saw around the flaps of 2 Dooney bags at eBay means they too are fakes. I almost bide on one of them yesterday but decided I had purchased way too many this month and passed on it. It was just soooo cute too! FYI I too would have made that exact same mistake at the thrift store.
Hi thanks for your video. Can you please tell me about their zippers on the bag? I found a bag that I wanted to buy on Mercari but the zipper pulls look weird do they say Dooney & Bourke?
Can you explain about the zipper tag, not the actual zipper but the tag that you grab and hold to open the zipper could you do a video on that because I believe that I have bought two fake dooney and bourkes one being a wallet and one being a change purse please and thank you
I saw an excellent example of a fake at the thrift store I work at today. The quality of the leather felt just a bit off though & it was missing the tag inside the bag. Other than that it was nearly indistinguishable from a real one.
A lot of even great fakes forget to print dooney imprint on the little brass hardware button backs. STITCHING looks cheaper, the thread strength/distance/quality.
New to bag collections, wanted to reach out in hopes that you have any ideas on this bag. It has ALL of the "looks", tag, stitches ect... can't for the life of me find these handles? Attempting to send photos😅
Just received two bags in the mail. They were advertised on a "QVC" sale site. There is no tag on the inside and the duck head logo on the front is facing the left. Any comments...Authentic???
Question: do most dooney and Bourke purses have brass rest feet on the bottom? I bought and dooney and Bourke purse in 1996 at Macy’s which costs $225 and have kept it all these years. It has never been very pliable and flexible at the zipper opening. Now I am wondering if it is authentic???
Hello, I know this video was from a year ago. I just wanted to share something I found. I have an old Dooney from , geez, maybe 90s. I searched n searched for it and found it. It is more of Graffiti type pattern . I bought it off Etsy . N it seemed real, right down to the rainbow zipper. That’s what they used, at that time, maybe in those type only . Not sure . I just remember my friend having one , n I wanted one. And I saw the inside tag , with the number n all else seemed fine. I noticed , there was a tag next to the inner one that said made in China. So I swore, I got a fake. I decided to pull out my Belvedere, from a couple years ago , that my husband bought , brand new , directly from Dooney. And the clip on the front is very large n has the duck but no where i can see , brass. It’s very heavy. And the tag says dooney n Burke on the inside just like the other one I have , n in the back a number . But I also didn’t see made in the US. I also noticed a differebt tag next to it but it was darker n it said like fabrique in China. So what I’m thinking is the ones you showed were the weather resistant ones n maybe this is different because I don’t think my Belvedere is made from that Material. I thought it was pebbled leather but seems very smooth. I also bought a key ring type thing , that splits in two from Dooney, it has to be all brass, but I don’t see the words in there . N that was 100$ straight from the manufacturer. What I’m thinking , is different styles , may have the China on it, because the inside of my Belvedere is made in like a canvas type red fabric , n the old one is similar material . I think the fabric , came from China. I know they make their purses here . So I just thought I would share. I swear I thought the other one was fake until I looked at my newer one . Maybe you can see the word brass in the type you got. But the key chain n the clasp on my Belvedere Didnt say it. Or too small for my half blind self to see it . Lol Some of the metal did say dooney tho. I’m just saying if you ever think you may have a fake, that’s old or vintage . Check it out first . I am not a purse authenticator. And please don’t take this wrong , I’m not saying your wrong I’m just saying that some other styles may be different . It’s a shame , we have to go thru so much anyway to see if what we are buying is real . Be blessed
Even though that last little bag is a fake, it is really really cute!!!! Especially as a mini :) Wear-on with pride, I say!! I would...Lol :) Btw, if you ever want to sell it, let me know. I just found you on Poshmark :)
D&B bags don't have the inside tags on their bags anymore. I only buy authentic D&B bags from authorized dealers or on D&B website. Any reason why the present bags don't have these anymore? Thank you in advance!
I have a bag that I need help identifying if it is real? I bought it at a Goodwill store and hate to pay $30 to have authenticated. Is there anyone that can help?
I have been a collector of Dooney since 2000. Thanks for this video ! I was going to sell a vintage AWL on line and it was a really good fake. I wish I could add a photo of it
I didn't know how to spot a fake, now I know ! All the signs point to my bag I purchased last year being authentic 😅. If you are looking into a bag from the front to the inside are the serial # tags usually on the left hand side near the top?
I know the what are you doing day today I bought over 60 we will say Xbox 360 games lol man moment. I grateful for this tutorial because I like buying and ehhhh giving and selling purses all brands some ugly dirty some excellent but this is great
Thrifth stores are not obligated to check for authenticity. They are thrift stores. Consignment stores have to authenticate a real bag. Your fake bags are not leather trim and Dooney never has a white tag. There are other things you missed, but I will let that pass. Older Dooneys also used green tags too.
Love a classic Dooney I love the older bags better quality
Yes honey say it again they are so pretty I really was sleeping on Dooney back in the day 😩
There was once a Dooney & Bourke Outlet and they were run by the company, but they cut the tags the way your light colored bag’s tag is cut. They told me they did that to inactivate the warranty.
That’s sad they could cut it partially and remove the RN number
Thank you for performing this sadly much needed public service. Your video really helped me. Especially the suggestion to look for the words solid brass. Some bags are real but a growing trend I see are fake straps especially with vintage bags. Again thank you for sharing your expertise with us!!
I have about 50 vintage Dooney bags. I just looooove them!
I’m on my 3rd one thanks to Poshmark banking on 4 if this seller except my offer it’s in white so freaking pretty 🥰

Yes!! Mine is from 1990 and with no tag! But the previous owner gave me the receipt and the tag 🏷️
I’m so excited! I found two of the exact same authentic bags today while thrifting!!!
Yay, congrats!
I used to work in retail selling dooney and.coach handbags I spot a fake a mile away.nice video.

6:43 I have a vintage Dooney & Bourke but the tag has raveled to where it only shows the word Dooney. Is there still a way to find how old it is?
Hi thanks for your video. Can you please tell me about their zippers on the bag? I found a bag that I wanted to buy on Mercari but the zipper pulls look weird do they say Dooney & Bourke?
Great vid, girlie! These tips are super helpful. Will definitely use that website you suggested while shopping!
Yay, thank you for watching!

Hi!!! I have the first black bag you showed. Can you please tell me when it was manufactured???
A lot of even great fakes forget to print dooney imprint on the little brass hardware button backs. STITCHING looks cheaper, the thread strength/distance/quality.
This was such a helpful video! Catching up on your old stuff :) Hope you are feeling well with baby
New to bag collections, wanted to reach out in hopes that you have any ideas on this bag. It has ALL of the "looks", tag, stitches ect... can't for the life of me find these handles? Attempting to send photos😅
I have that white bag! It looks authentic, all the same features as mine less the missing fob and inside tag. It's a wonderful crossbody :)
Just received two bags in the mail. They were advertised on a "QVC" sale site. There is no tag on the inside and the duck head logo on the front is facing the left. Any comments...Authentic???
Very informative and good lesson for us. Thanks so much.

I honestly don't know why, but I would guess they still have other key identification features such a serial number. 🤗
The duck panel is not on every authentic dooney bag
Is their always like a duck logo? How about a serial number from the inside?
Does the Dooneys come with dust bags?
Unlike most mid-range and luxury handbags, most Disney Dooney and Bourke purses do not come with a dust cover
I recently bought 2 Pebbled Grain Large shopper and both of them had a sticker tag with serial number are these bags fake? Thanks
I have a bag that I need help identifying if it is real? I bought it at a Goodwill store and hate to pay $30 to have authenticated. Is there anyone that can help?
Look below your comment where she posted a link
Hi! Can u also create a tutorial on how to unlock a dooney bag?
my bag has a black substance like toner ink that gets on every thing what could that be
We have all made mistakes, hence the reason for my visit today :) HAHA Thank you for sharing. I gave you a follow!
I have been a collector of Dooney since 2000. Thanks for this video ! I was going to sell a vintage AWL on line and it was a really good fake. I wish I could add a photo of it

I made the same mistake... saw it at garage sale, overcome with excitement on "find".
got it home... not even close in quality
My dooney is so old it doesn’t have the tag inside, but it was authenticated 🙌🏻 I was so nervous when I got it🤣
This webpage is a great resource to help you as well. horsekeeping.com/Dooney/Dooney-Bourke-char.htm
I have a small dooney Burke that is authentic trying to sell
Very helpful
I know the what are you doing day today I bought over 60 we will say Xbox 360 games lol man moment. I grateful for this tutorial because I like buying and ehhhh giving and selling purses all brands some ugly dirty some excellent but this is great
Great info! Thank you!♡
The fake Dooney are styles that Dooney never made.
Not everyone knows the difference when starting out ..
Useful info - thanks for the video!
a lot of buy sell trade stores buy fakes and try not to mark them as real brand rather then just a “bag”
I could spot a fake a mile away
I was never trained how to identify fakes so this is helpful for me. Any other tips you would suggest how to spot a fake?
Very informative thank you
Nice video, Thanks
ATTENTION MILLY Dooney & Bourke began 1975 NOT EARLY 80S

Your fake bags are not leather trim and Dooney never has a white tag. There are other things you missed, but I will let that pass. Older Dooneys also used green tags too.
Thrift stores, especially Goodwill put hefty prices on high quality and priced goods though. So, yes a person can be taken even at thrift stores.
I bought two nylon/canvas ones... one feels a lot better than the other.. hmmm lol
I'm not as familiar with fake canvas bags, but if they have the inner tag, they should be fine. 🤗
I dislike the nylon it always looks and feels cheap to me.
NO ONE needs to buy "real" bags online because you never know their fake until you get them home............buyers beware
