Okay but when the brand first came out like way back in 1980's the brand didn't start sewing in there tags inside of the bag till 1983 so there are some bags that are real without the tags inside of the bag they are very vintage ones tho
Yes, that's true for all brands i think. But you can definitely feel the difference!
Actually the tag you are referring to is the green tag, not the registration tag . The green tags were dropped to develop the interior pocket in anout 1985. The registration tags did not come about until approx 1988. I have seen plenty of faked registration tags. Don't rely solely on the presence or lack of a tag to dtermibe authencity. :)

Great video! With Dooney and Bourke I always find the easiest ways to spot a fake is the hardware branding and the interior lining as well. My thrift store loves to sell fake Dooney and Bourkes lol and it’s definitely helped me authenticate a few here and there.
+Shyleen Shawn thank you! Yea, i can definitely spot a fake easily now. I have to tell my favorite thrift store when things are fake. They see a name brand and automatically price them higher.
My thrift store recently had a fake Dooney and Bourke and I was gonna tell someone but I know they would just put it right back on the floor when I left. It's illegal to sell something that you KNOW for a fact is fake but they all just turn a blind eye and then they try and upcharge for counterfeit purses smh.

I'm a minimalist so I buy one neutral DB purse to use day after day for 3-4 years. I love you're channel..maybe you'll break my habit, lol❤

Thank you! You helped me authenticate that my DB is real. Name is on zip, 'real brass', quality is definitely there (I have 8 others). But this one has no inner label/serial #. I found that DB would remove the labels at their outlet store and early DB's didnt have the labels. As well, you can check that "Dooney and Bourke" is printed on the reverse side of the rivets on the shoulder strap. (Mine does). The duck fob on mine has been replaced with a more modern "DB" brass fob, but I have 8 others,so no problem there. Thanks for yourfurther tips which just eased my mind and assured me it was legit!

I did find a purse at a thrift store and for 4 .00 decided to buy and check into it Everything checks out according to your criteria as well as the company’s website . That is with the exception of the fact I cannot see writing about genuine brass and the zipper pull doesn’t say Dooney . Seems strange To have all important and main trademarks check out but those two . Are either of those giveaways or one of exceptions? If genuine how Fo I determine what to ask for it ? Hey there! I'm g il adni was able to help. I would say that neither of those are instant signs that the bag is a fake. The zipper could have been replaced or that may not have been a feature when your bag was made. I'm surprised. I have been buying DBs for years and had no idea there are fakes. Your poshmark purchase is beautiful quality - it is easy to see even without the other for comparison.

What I've found on some fakes the duck stamp is glued on the bag so I always tag on them and ofcourse the feel on the leather is smoother. Great video

I just a Dooney of postmark well what I thought..Sion as I opened the box..I was like what the heck is this
This one the tag is cut ,no label two different threads ,the inside pocket is not leather it feels like the inside of utility gloves. Where the stitches should be its glued

If that's a fake it's a pretty good one it has a lot of details you don't see in fakes it might be one of the very fist purses they put out pre vintage vintage

thanks. i friend had a "d&b" at her garage sale. i found it when she was closing up and she said i could have anything i wanted. she's a big thrift shopper and doesn't bother to look for authenticity, she just buys what she likes. she's not a label buyer. so i was excited no one had bought it. sure enough, knock off. the zipper pull said "three star" and i there was no inside tag. the handles are also obviously vinyl as its broken and you can see the under side.

I recently purchased two DB bags at a garage sale. I’ve never owned one, so I was wondering about the red white and blue tag on the inside of the bag. Do the fake ones put one like that inside the bag? Because both of mine have the red white and blue tag that says Dooney & Bourke. Does that mean mine are real? last night i thrifted the exact style bag in cream and tan. its a good replica but for 5.00 i love the design im going to rock it! thanks for the info so i can spot a real one in the future

Seen a ton of doony bags at the flea market but didn’t buy any Bc I wasn’t sure if they were real but honestly I would use a fake one Bc no one is gonna call me out saying it’s fake lol but inside the bag it said made in the USA and I wasn’t sure where they were made
Yes! They are made in the USA. Some are made in other places especially now. But the vintage ones that I've come across almost always say made in USA
More info, early Dooney & Bourke bags don't have the red, white, and blue tag. So assuming all Dooneys have a tag is wrong. There are early 80s bags with a green Dooney & Bourke label sewn on to the leather, and some that are without either label

I found a handgbag very with this same shape in a thrift store 2 weeks ago. Is leather but the logo says : siesta collection. It looks like a vintage dooney. It was new. I paid 3 dlls for it. I take it to work🙋♀️
I have found that too. Other companies back then dumped the brand just like companies do now. I see bags all the time from the back that I'm sure are Dooney's and then they turn out not to be.

All the Dooney and Bourke bags I’ve seen have the inside lined in red. How old is the bag?
Both bags are well over 30 years old. Some the first to be made.

My auntie have me one 16 years ago and how do I check to see if it's real. The other one I own came from an Oak Ridge scientist. And I couldn't imagine either women carrying a fake.

I found a vintage dooney at a local thrift store for $1. Its solid black, and had the duck fob on leather. I haven't found another online like it. But I am 99% sure its authentic because it has all the correct hardware, feet, zippers and liner. And it is crazy soft leather. What's funny is I had no idea it was a designer bag when i got it, i just nee it was beautifully made and of quality.

That is true especially with the newer bags but they will also say that they were made in China. But they should still have the Dooney and Bourke tag, it just won't say made in the USA.

I have a brown all weather satchel style. it is beautifully made and the leather and appearance seem genuine. it does not have a serial tag and the zippers are YKK. any thoughts, anyone?
It may be an authentic bag that predates the tags.

Hi. Thank you! I do know that they did start making their bags in places other than the U.S. so it is quite possible. I know Mexico, China, Puerto Rico and Italy. I'm not sure about Thailand.

I believe that first Cooney to be authentic. Vintage Dooney all weather bags are stiff. There may even be a sticker in it that says Dooney & Bourke Made in USA (circa early 80's). Does it have a YKK zipper? If it does I am 99% sure its real. Vintage Dooney does not have all the fonts on the hardware. The only thing throwing me off is the duck charm. The holder should be leather. But again not certain.
Yes it does. Lots of ppl think that it is as well. I definitely thought so when I first got it as well, so it very well may be. I still have it though. It's a great bag.

Tyler Covington facts. I’ve been around dooney bags for like more than half of my life 😂 my mother bought a couple at Macy’s in Manhattan when I was younger. The leather never gets wrinkled like that. As soon as I saw the wrinkles, I knew it was fake. It looks odd.

I'm not sure you understand what patina means. Both of those bags are authentic! Yepper.
I beg to differ. I believe that bag may be be authentic. Not all Dooneys will have the authentic tag. That was only done in the late eighties. I have delt with a lot of Dooneys. Many were very deep green color. The all weather leather is stiff and made so to resist water. They were not fashion or designer bags when they were first made, but they were used by horseback riders. You had a tag on the side which you did not show. Just saying.
Hi thanks for watching. I'm not sure what you saw in the bag that you thought may have been a tag but there is definitely no tag in the "fake" bag. The tag is not the only indication to me that the bag is not authentic. There were several things that I pointed out in the video that helped me to come to that conclusion. I've handled several dooney's as well especially since I first purchased that one and I am certain that it is a fake.

@@BrandieChannail One thing is that who ever owned it, put leather product on it. You dont do that with all weather leather. Another thing not many fakes were produced at that time. Dooney wasn't well sought after like Chanel. Most replicas came out after the late 80's and 90's. Many bag companies only started putting tags in their bags to fight off counterfeit bags. It stated what plant it was made in and origin of country. The very early Chanels did not have tags. In fact, Dooney has been sued for copyright infringement violations, to be honest with you. They started out as a men's equestrian supply company. But woman began to use the equestrian bags as handbags. And their company took off.:)

I've used both bags.
all ya need is one fake dooney and one real dooney - there's no similarities at all. fakes are cheap plastic, poorly constructed, pathetic. real ones have impeccable stitching and seams. usually the rivets are stamped dooney and bourke (not always) but the brass and hardware are quality. just look closely gals, the differences are fairly profound.
It's pretty clear to me too. But some viewers of this video actually feel like both are real and one is just much older. I don't agree though.
All those puckery wrinkles scream FAKE!
