A lot of thesed early designs share the realistic dark and organic style of Doom 2016 wich I think Doom Eternal could have benefited greatly. Especially the Makers who would have been much more unique in terms of designs. That demon concil sounds a lot more like the Hell Priests in concept, one of my biggest complains about them was theirs designs with completely contrasted with everything else. Having actually demonic-like beings would have been so cool!
2016 revenant will remain my favorite design. Doom 3 commando is my favorite marauder design... The marauder is just the Eternal version of the commando lore wise... FIGHT ME.
damn they really dumbed down the creativity from concept to final in soo many of these cases, particularly the Makyr designs - that thing with the multiple heads is just so damn cool. On a side note, the first concept art with the doom marine looks exactly like Michael Shannon, they need to get him to play the doom marine if they ever made another movie.
1:01 the exploding zombie to the left reminds me of one of the Seven deadly sins demons from devil may cry 3 that carried a pulsating bomb on its back.
I think they just wanted to separate the "big horned demons" between the them and the Barons. I think this hell knight version is just paying homage to the Doom 3 version in a way.
@AcidGlow Ya, you're probably right. Maybe it works better with the fast-paced action to quickly distinguish them from one another, and definitely is an homage to doom 3.
@@Firestarter1008An interesting take on Knights would be to keep them as they are, so they’re still distinct from Barons, however, instead of possessing large horns similar to Barons; they have much smaller horns similar to that of the Pinky, almost as if they’re starting to form. This would also lead more to the idea of Knights evolving into Barons.
yup. Maybe we'll see that in the Dark Ages since that game has a bit more "shield n melee" mechanics and the time period also fits this Gargoyle style.
..honestly wish they kept either of the 2 horned knight designs instead of just giving them eyes and purple skin, just to show they're evolving into barons and i really like the cyberdemon's final design, but the 4th scrapped design (second photo, to the right) looks more like the classic devil. also, instead of reusing a hell zombie for the screechers, they should have used any of the hellish designs for the cueball zombies. instead of just being a stationary target, they'll roam arenas in buff speed and when killed, they instantly explode into a temporary puddle of purple slime whilst their souls buff the nearest heavy/super demons.
I know that doom is all about demons and angels but I was thinking that some are not angels and demons here's the thing the undead are just monsters and the lost souls and spirits are basically ghosts that what I in my mind.
The more flesh like or organic designs in my opinion made doom universe more eldeitch horror themed. I like it better but I do think current theme suits better, it could be because of getting used to it. Also I want to add Hugo Martin, the game director of Doom, had eldritch horror themed ideas, so that is why some unused designs were more oeganic.
I like the carcass loader design, but the final version does pay reference the doom movie iirc the desk guy in the wheelchair turned in to a tripod walker
Some of those designs looked medieval, they be perfect for the new DOOM game, and the really grotesque ones should be sent to Capcom's art team for RE9!
Some of the cancelled designs are more interesting than those in the final game. I'm not a fan of a final Carcass or Whiplash for example. Maybe they will use some of those designs in Dark Ages. Also I'm surprised that the Gladiator boss wasn't initially meant to look like a classic Baron of Hell.
*Did you like any of these older designs?* 🧐
Doom Dark Ages Ending ua-cam.com/video/opZwYsTeHUk/v-deo.html
The original design of the carcass reminds me of the Centaur from fallout
Same they look so similar.
A mix between The Thing & Centaurs I’d say

it would have been so cool to see a horned hellknight ingame
that's a good point. I think they could've at least renamed it and given it some new attacks. My favorite is the Baron.
2:27 maybe we will see this design again in Dark Ages?
That floating spider makyr at 1:09… is that the one we saw in the trailer for the new doom dark ages?
Yeah, they also remind me of the seekers from doom 3 when you fight the guardian.
interesting that the makyrs were going to have their own cacodemons
All DOOM is good DOOM.
Hdoom is good Doom
Brutal doom is better Doom
Hdoom + brutal Doom=?
I love the smell of doom lore in the morning..
I thought the Icon of Sin arena was gonna be a battlemode map, or a level before Khan Maykr excavated him
The Hell council sorta made it into Doom 2016 with the UAC announcer talking about the "Blind Council of 9" but it was never expanded on.
2016 revenant will remain my favorite design.
Doom 3 commando is my favorite marauder design... The marauder is just the Eternal version of the commando lore wise... FIGHT ME.
Im glad they did full body icon of sin fight, it was epic and badass... since we already had him in the wall in 2016 i think

1:45 these could be perfect desings for The Thing aliens
Pretty cool. The good thing is a lot of these designs can still be used in future installments.
Alot of the helmet designs of the marauder reminds me of samurai's and shit im glad they went with the final design.
1:01 the exploding zombie to the left reminds me of one of the Seven deadly sins demons from devil may cry 3 that carried a pulsating bomb on its back.
Wow, that Hell Knight in the top right is what we should've gotten. It looks awesome.
I think they just wanted to separate the "big horned demons" between the them and the Barons.

The second Marauder design would've been nuts
that’s what MODDING is for, my friend!
@@AydenGonzalez-r3s The game doesn't have official mod support.
@@Legion849 oh, right.
The first image of the old Makyrs on the right were way cooler.
We need more titans & makyr in doom dark age
I actually really like the horned knight design. Just looks so badass
OMG so Maykrs could be more like lore accurate angels, that would've been sick.
Cancelation of these designs was a huge mistake. I would've love all this unique depictions over more or less the same trype of enemy.
I agree with what you said about the gargoyle.
The medieval design surely would be more memorable, than just a common imp-like creature with wings.
yup. Maybe we'll see that in the Dark Ages since that game has a bit more "shield n melee" mechanics and the time period also fits this Gargoyle style.
Gotta say I would have loved seeing those body horror carcasses in action
Same, but that might be why they were never put in. Too hard to animate/affects gameplay. Would be interesting to see why their decision was made
I love some of the designs that weren’t used.
My favorite has to be the Gargoyle medieval type. I really like that one.
The Marauders and Maykrs are so damn cool.

The carcass with two heads and torso on one body reminds me of The Thing.

Love all those designs, they put lot's of work into it and i am appreciating it! 👏👏👏
It would be awesome to get a Maykr centric Doom with a “biblically accurate” type of angel aesthetic.
Thanks - have you gone over the art book of doom
Yes many years ago, but not for a video yet. I will soon.
2:22 this design looks like it was made for DOOM the dark ages
The Mayker designs makes me wish we got a more fleshed out heaven faction, Maybe in Dark Ages (although I doubt it)
Do you have links for those concepts? I love collecting them.
I like the second marauder design, pretty much samurai inspired and i really dig that

The final barom design compared to 2016 was an unequivocal downgrade in my mind, he looks extremely boring as a generic gray and orange enemy.
Would've been better if they'd used the lava version as a tougher version of the baron instead of swapping the old one out completely
Enough content for Doom Eternal 2...
interesting designs
My complaint with Doom eternal is the sword it was such a waste I've never use it really
I hate how everyone calls the tyrants cyber demons. They’re called tyrants. The cyber demon was a boss fight
cyber demon
All of these are metal a.f. 😎👍
