I personally saw Doom 3 as a side story taking place around 120 years after the original trilogy (Doom 1 to 64) where you play as a normal Marine which explains the slower and more horror like gameplay. Doom 3 is only a couple years before Doom 2016 and they both share the same plasma weapon designs along with the Easter eggs on Doom 3 of the Doom Guy it’s very possible that in these 100 years the demons created tablets of the battles between Doom Guy and hell which were found in Doom 3.
But there's a big hole in your theory. The tablets from Doom 3 specifically described about the struggles of the tablet's creator (the Martians) against the force of hell, with stories and warning NOT to use their teleportation technology. It make zero sense for the demons to created tablets describing their war from the perspective of THEIR enemy.
No, Dead Space was actually inspired by System Shock 2, it was suposed to be System Shock 3 but Visceral was unable to get the IP Doom 3, as well as lots of horror sci-fi shooters had inspirations from System Schock 2.
*HELL YES Doom 3, love this game along with its expansions and I even consider it a underrated classic.* Also I would LOVE the return of some demons from it, like the Maledict, Guardian or the Hunter Trio, love those Demons.
Doom 3 according to the fans: this game is not canon to the previous one. This is another dimension with references to the previous games. Doom Eternal devs: WELL, ACTUALLY...
I can honestly see Doom 3 being apart of the main series it’s over 100 years after Doom 64 set in a world with more advanced technology (modern sci fi) compared to the retro look of the originals. Doom 2016 carries in this look with both games sharing the same plasma weapon designs. In my mind Doom 3 was like a side story where you played as a normal marine while the Doom Guy was locked away in hell couple years later he was found and woke up and that’s 2016.
Yep, I'm pretty convinced that the Martian ruins in Doom 3 is the Lost City of Hebeth from Eternal, the Martians themselves are actually the Argenta, and the ancient Martian hero is of course the Doomslayer during the Unholy Crusade.
@@juliovictormanuelschaeffer8370 and it is really cool they're doing that. Always liked Doom 3's presentation and intrigue with the ancient "martians" and stuff. Would be kinda neat if Doom 3's version of Hell was referenced too as a sort of really bizarre outland on the edge (the only place someone like betruger could probably get power)
I personally think that without Doom.3 there was never a Dead space, much more is inspired by Doom 3 ,the only thing that is RE4 inspired is the camera view the other things are totally Doom.3
Dead Space was actually inspired by System Shock 2, indeed the game was suposed to be System Shock 3, but Visceral was unable to get the IP Doom 3 itself, as much of sci-fi horror shooters, had SS2 influences
I always liked Doom 3, it was like being a regular marine who becomes part of the Slayer story and they gave a lot of backstory and plot which was pretty cool. But, nothing beats glory killing every single thing in the universe!
Playing DOOM 3 for the first time since I was a kid and it's actually pretty good when it comes to immersion. It doesn't scream "arcade fps" like the new ones, but you still get this feeling of righteous conquering when you mow down demons in a partially lit hallway.
Really wished they kept going with the real horror style gameplay that doom 3 had in the new games, it honestly made much more sense to me seeing as it's all demons and shit. Don't get me wrong I still like the "beast mode nothing can stop me" that the newer games and the OG's had but doom 3 just felt like that's how it was meant to be if that makes sense while still keeping this absolute weapon of a marine.
Given doom's hell is multiversal technically doom 3 takes place and is canon to the overarching doom timeline. Hell with some jiggery pokery could even explain this as the incident that samual hayden used to jumpstart thins on mars
Developers: *The story of DooM 3 takes place as if the first two never happened. So it's very important for fans to realize this is not DooM 3 after DooM 2 Hell On Earth. This is DooM 3 where as DooM and DooM 2 never happened.* Fan theorists: *That sign can't stop me because I can't read.*
The intro part of DOOM 3 is pretty much based off of Half Life 1's intro. You're meant to take it all in before all Hell breaks loose. But yeah I understand that people wouldn't want a slow-paced opening in a DOOM game. (I really liked it though, tbh.) :D
Doom 3 has a lot more advanced technology terms of artistic style the original Dooms had that retro Aliens look while Doom 3 went for a more modern sci fi look. Doom 3 does take place over 120 years after the events of Doom 64 making it a lot closer to Doom 2016 than any other Doom game both share the same plasma weapon design aswell which was an upgrade from the classic plasma weapon. Doom Eternal also confirmed that the classic look of Earth/UAC in the 2020s was a more retro sci fi look by having the classic marine armour be canon. If Doom 3 had this look and took place in the 2020s then it would definitely pass as a prequel.
I always thought that Doom 3 is an alternate dimension because think back to Doom Eternal when the Maykrs talk about having a machine that can see through multiple timelines. Would it be hard to imagine Doom 3 is one of them, especially when it played out way too similarly to Doom 1?
herugrim666 look up unused Doom Eternal voices the Khan talks to Doomguy about sending him to the 7 Dimension before the demons and where he can live a life without the memories of his past
I really loved the audio logs in this game, the ones in hell of the guy who lost his squad or the scientist describing how they discovered that teleporting lead to hell are so damn awesome and stand outs in world building for me
Doom 3 was a childhood favorite. Loved the intrO sequence as a kid. I felt like I was actually about to live on mars, made me jump many times. Still remember watching my dad install it onto the computer. Beat it several times now. Great story. Still looks decent. This and half life 2 were a game changer
How awesome would it be if ID revived this doom series as well. Like don't get me wrong I love doom 2016 and doom eternal and I'm really happy they took doom in that direction but I love doom 3. And I was actually looking forward to doom 4.
Me too man. The Doom Marine has always intrigued me, he never said anything and always looked like he was pissed off being there until the demons showed up looking for buckshot BJs and Plasma level coffee breaks.
@@jillvalentinefan77 he was so chill and it seemed like he was vibing. When the actual nightmares started happening on the base he was more than happy to start slaying some demon ass. He and the actual doom slayer are the ultimate Chad's. I hope ID never forgets about the doom 3 doom guy. Imagine what he would have been like in doom 4
@@azariah_kyras What even intrigues me more is the UAC Marines. Their armor and weapons and the training they undergo. If hell ever came too earth, I'm 1000% certain the Marines would kick asses all up and down this.dimension.
@@jillvalentinefan77 in doom 3 they get mowed down because they weren't expecting literal hell to break loose. I can only imagine what they would have been like when they are fully prepared for what's coming at them hence doom 4.
In my personal head cannon I like to believe doom 3 is apart of the current doom lore. Doom 3 happens many years after doom 64 and the UAC continuing their research on mars as a whole. With the game taking place on mars mostly the UAC can keep the invasion a secret and hide anything that happened, even putting blame on the doom marine in doom 3 and using him as a scapegoats.
Doom 3 put in a story. But everyone wanted doom. That's what I like about doom, the new one, their is a story but you don't have to care about it. Smash the screen and keep shooting demons.
Interesting. I love how Wolfenstein, Quake, and DOOM are all connected -- whether through different Dimensions or Timelines, or a combination of the two
AcidGlow, I know this is asking a lot, but could you do a video about the Maykr hierarchy. There’s lots of info in-game and cut info in Emerson Tungs Doom Eternal concept art. Maykrs were gunna have deacons, priests, and devouts. They also created large cross-like structures that orbit Urdak- they were called Archangels and acted as a army to protect Maykrland. And the Maykrs were supposed to be completely synthetic- while the real Maykrs are in a Mummified state- there body’s scattered throughout Maykrland.
Out of all the doom games i think doom 3 did best for recreating/representing hell.Making it look very scary and pacing was good when demons come out of corners.
Doom 3 is the best I think. The open-arena Quake style of the newer Doom games doesn't appeal to me. I prefer the corridors "gotcha" moments of Doom 3.
Doom 3 is the most believable obviously, they did a great job on it and the story. I mean, if you want a bad story in a Doom title, go watch the movie.
Which one ? Cause if studio execs shut their damned mouths and didn't change the first movie's story it would have been closer too the source material. The second well..... we tend to not mention that one.
@@jillvalentinefan77 I disliked the both of them, but the 2nd one is a disaster in of itself. Had they stuck to the game storyline the 1st would have been perfect. .
@@feartheoldblood Word too the wise, never let some snot nosed studio executive tell you too remove demons and religious and satanic iconography to appease a select group of people. I feel bad for the Director and the writers.
He won't. Because he thinks he is a genius, he believes Doom Eternal and it's shitty lore are the best things ever made in video game's history and he also believes he is better than John Romero himself. How could I give any credit when it comes to creating a new Doom game when this franchise is simply put in the hands of a fucking narcissistic nerd, pretentious, Masters Of The Universe's dumb fan? Hugo Martin simply DESPISES all that was made before. He is a true idiot. He made a great work in 2016 DOOM, but for some unknown reason he started to change DOOM'S VERY ESSENCE, changing everything! Even Hell IS NOT HELL ANYMORE! Even the demons are not DEMONS anymore, but just corrupted human bodies after the soul extraction process! In the DOOM 3 lore the demons might remain a mistery but they are described as creatures NATIVE to Hell, not as mutated humans. They are there to torment human souls for all eternity, as we see in the christian's traditional depiction of Hell. And the most important thing: IN DOOM 3 HELL IS FUCKING HELL. It is not some kind of stupid factory powered by human souls in order to grant some stupid alien beings imortality nor the result of the corruption of some silly asshole god.
I’ll never understand why this game gets such a bad rap. I thought it was an awesome game, and the move to a more horror-focused environment with a frightening atmosphere was a stroke of genius...especially the hell level. Running around blowing up demons over and over gets boring after a while.
Probably cuase the first part of the game is bad. Everything looks the same, enemies at multiple times hit you before you can even shoot. You basically have to wonder around tell you happen on where to go.
@@patcris8923 All of the doom games have a bit of a non-linear exploration element, which never bothered me much. And yes, the graphical representation does get repetitive in the first 3 games, utilizing the same color/texture schemes over and over just in rearranged patterns. But still, doom 3 has an incredibly frightening atmosphere and really makes you feel isolated and terrified. It’s what a hellish invasion would actually be like. The first two games, while awesome in their own right, lack that dreadful feeling and by the end of the first episode, you’ve already experienced all there is, and the gameplay just becomes monotonous and repetitive. Doom 3 adds more plot detail and a somewhat believable storyline that leads to the events of the game, plus switches to more of an action focus at the end, so you kinda get the best of both worlds. I really wish id would continue the horror aspect of the doom franchise and combine the frightening atmosphere of doom 3 with the incredible action and visuals of doom 2016. Doom Eternal? Now there’s a game the franchise could have done without. Just god awful.
I'll tell you the only way (or at least the "best" way) Doom 3 could be linked to the other Doom Titles. The key is the Quake Series and Slip Gates into different dimensions. To be clear, thus far, there is no statement, or piece of lore that would directly contradict the notion that the Multiverse of Quake is in fact, the same Multiverse as Doom 1, 2, 64, 2016, Eternal, and of course Doom 3. But of course id hasn't confirmed the existence of a multiverse either so, eh... So really, Doom 3 is just an alternate universe where an invasion happened, but Doomslayer never existed.
I just played through Doom 3 & it's DLC's last week. Resurrection of Evil was so much fun because of the Artifact! I wish The Lost Mission was a part of RoE because of the intense amount of demons in most encounters, would've been fun to punch everything while the Artifact is active.
I personally like to think that, as Doom is a multiversal franchise, Doom 3 takes place in separate universe to the classic Doom games and Doom 2016 and Eternal, but could be linked to our universe. After all, who is to say that the demons who attacked the ancient Martians, and the UAC base, are not the same demons that Doomguy fought after sealing himself in Hell at the end of Doom 64?
@The Immaculate Slayer DOOM 3: BFG Edition also introduced me to the two awesome OGs -- The Ultimate DOOM, and DOOM II: Hell on Earth -- as I'm a console peasant lol. I love the old and new games equally.
I'm just finally getting round to it after grabbing myself the Slayers Collection for my PS4 , and all I can ask is...am I alone here in calling this the OG 'Dead Space'? 🤔😆
If everyone sacrificed themselves to power the soul cube, who was the doom slayer fighting for, and who buried him after his death, and how did they know what soul cube was, and how did they know to bury it with him?
The thing I fear in DOOM 3 are the pipes and cables. Come on, like, everything in DOOM 3 has cables ir its made out if cables. Is this supposed to be scary or disgusting? For example, where the mancubus appears, there are too many pipes and looks disgusting. So, I think cables, pipes and flesh in DOOM 3 are traumatic...
I’m currently playing doom 3 and it’s definitely scary, but the way I feel it ties in is with the singular hell dimension, I don’t remember where I heard it exactly but all the different dimensions are connected in that manner. Not sure if I’m remembering it correctly
I would've been about 12-13 when I sneakily played Doom 3, the Cherub level had me save and quite, then not play it for weeks just based on the lights of there eyes and the cackling down the hall... I stomped them later but still, freaky as
Haven't read too much into the lore, but a theory on the ancient martians and the hero: The ancient hero was the betrayer and the martians his people. "It is your people's time to give penance.. just as it was mine." His "death" was his disappearance.
I wonder if we'll see this Marine in a future, since IIRC he stayed in hell after beating Betruger. Maybe he did encounter the same warrior race that trained Doom Slayer too?
Yeah man it may be unpopular opinion but this was my favorite due to the fact your no longer invincible op super soldier god. You're just a normal marine fighting for survival relying on wit's, strategy and exploration to stay alive.
I think the "ancient people" or "martians" of mars were the people of sentinel prime in doom 2016 lore. And then after a few hundred years in that dimension humans name it Mars and we get Doom 3 "without" doom 1&2
As Dark ages’ trailer dropped, it would be cool to see the Ancient Martian Hero in Doom 3 was actually the Slayer. Traveling to an alternate version of the Sentinels and using the Soul Cube. Then again that would make him a legend in 3 different dimensions
*Doom 3 is still a good game with a great story. What do you think?* ✅🙂

It make zero sense for the demons to created tablets describing their war from the perspective of THEIR enemy.
@@RichterBelmont2235 maybe that martian on the stone tablets was a paralell to the doom slayer just like the dark lord was
These days, it's pretty obvious that the original Doom is just...eh. And the new Doom games follow in that lineage. That stale early 1990s lineage.

@@FlakonFraggs that part was actually confirmed by the developers.
@@juliovictormanuelschaeffer8370 and it is really cool they're doing that. Always liked Doom 3's presentation and intrigue with the ancient "martians" and stuff. @@ORLY911 yep. I also wish they could do something with BJ and Keen.

Dead Space was actually inspired by System Shock 2, indeed the game was suposed to be System Shock 3, but Visceral was unable to get the IP
Doom 3 itself, as much of sci-fi horror shooters, had SS2 influences

Yeah Doom 3 had some spooky elements to it that i miss.
This is DooM 3 where as DooM and DooM 2 never happened.*

The intro part of DOOM 3 is pretty much based off of Half Life 1's intro. You're meant to take it all in before all Hell breaks loose. But yeah I understand that people wouldn't want a slow-paced opening in a DOOM game. (I really liked it though, tbh.) :D
Long? It’s like 5-10 mins top
If doom-3 didn't take place after doom-1
Doom-2 and doom-64, then could doom three be a pre-qual to all the doom games?
Would it be hard to imagine Doom 3 is one of them, especially when it played out way too similarly to Doom 1?
doomguy leapt to another dimension after doom 64. I think Doom 3 is the history of that universe.

Doom 3 happens many years after doom 64 and the UAC continuing their research on mars as a whole. With the game taking place on mars mostly the UAC can keep the invasion a secret and hide anything that happened, even putting blame on the doom marine in doom 3 and using him as a scapegoats.

That's what I like about doom, the new one, their is a story but you don't have to care about it. Smash the screen and keep shooting demons.
Doom 3 is great, and a good scare. I believe a tv broadcast in that game showed a deep space probe coming across the Strogg homeword.

Che-Roob... If you can find the voice pronunciation for Azjol-Nerub from warcraft, the cherub rhymes with nerub. great vid btw.
Out of all the doom games i think doom 3 did best for recreating/representing hell.Making it look very scary and pacing was good when demons come out of corners.

And the most important thing:
IN DOOM 3 HELL IS FUCKING HELL.
@@patcris8923
All of the doom games have a bit of a non-linear exploration element, which never bothered me much.
So really, Doom 3 is just an alternate universe where an invasion happened, but Doomslayer never existed.
that's exactly my headcanon
I just played through Doom 3 & it's DLC's last week.
Resurrection of Evil was so much fun because of the Artifact!
I wish The Lost Mission was a part of RoE because of the intense amount of demons in most encounters, would've been fun to punch everything while the Artifact is active.
I liked the dlc more than the base game
I personally like to think that, as Doom is a multiversal franchise, Doom 3 takes place in separate universe to the classic Doom games and Doom 2016 and Eternal, but could be linked to our universe. After all, who is to say that the demons who attacked the ancient Martians, and the UAC base, are not the same demons that Doomguy fought after sealing himself in Hell at the end of Doom 64?
This is my favorite doom game, bring the hate
Mine as well. The DLC's are awesome too XD

Betruger, can be described intro English as Betrayer or The one who betrayed.
So how did the Martian get buried in burial chamber if everyone was sacrificed?

Not everyone died. Someone them survived. And some of the survivors migrated to Earth.
I’m currently playing doom 3 and it’s definitely scary, but the way I feel it ties in is with the singular hell dimension, I don’t remember where I heard it exactly but all the different dimensions are connected in that manner. Not sure if I’m remembering it correctly

I think DooM 3 is the prequel to classic DooM because classic DooM happens after demons took over uac

Haven't read too much into the lore, but a theory on the ancient martians and the hero:
The ancient hero was the betrayer and the martians his people. "It is your people's time to give penance.. just as it was mine." His "death" was his disappearance.
What if the betrayer is ranger from quake?

what if in the ancient gods part 2 doomguy has to use the soul cube to destroy the dark lord? Just saying but it's far fetched ik
I wonder if we'll see this Marine in a future, since IIRC he stayed in hell after beating Betruger. Maybe he did encounter the same warrior race that trained Doom Slayer too?

As Dark ages’ trailer dropped, it would be cool to see the Ancient Martian Hero in Doom 3 was actually the Slayer. Traveling to an alternate version of the Sentinels and using the Soul Cube. Then again that would make him a legend in 3 different dimensions
