Where to Mount a GoPro Camera on a Sports Bike

  • These are some of the GoPro camera mounting positions we use on our sports bike, in this case the BMW S1000RR.
    Obviously this won't cover every possibility, but it's a few positions we use that seem to work ok on track.
    I've also thrown in a quick look at how we sometimes mount a DJI Osmo gimbal camera. Not my favourite on the bike, but interesting in any case.

      the remote comes with a small cradle for mounting it. You simply use one of the camera mounts to attach the cradle to the normal stick on camera mount and that's it. Check this out - www.amazon.com/GoPro-Wi-Fi-Remote-Mounting-Kit/dp/B07BW7LC9C/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_421_t_0?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=D6W98ZV2J6183AK9VX1D

    • @TheBikeStig
      @TheBikeStig  4 роки тому

      We continued to try with that Osmo and eventually gave up on it, had problems on big turns on the bike. And none of that stuff is made anymore, DJI went away from it and now have the Osmo Pocket - store.dji.com/product/osmo-pocket?vid=48141 . I'll post something on the 360 degree camera because thats actually a much better way to go I think, the cameras are amazing and work so well now and the effect is the same.

  • @NAZLSI
    @NAZLSI 6 років тому

    Hey, Nice video, what is that handle bar thing on the tank of the bike for?
    Also I was looking for a similar option with the gimbal from GoPro but the company says it will not be able to function at high vibrations such as racing etc. Are you sure the DJI one is supposed to work at high vibrations?

    • @TheBikeStig
      @TheBikeStig  6 років тому

      Thanks mate. That thing is a pillion grip, we explained how we use it here - ua-cam.com/video/U5OSIy5CvMM/v-deo.html . The DJI Osmo works okay fitted with that little shock absorber, but problem is it's way too big so we never use it on track, we've got a couple of WG Mini (wearable) gimbals we've been experimenting with on track, had some issues but I'll post something about these soon. The gimbal thing is a tough one without a big tech budget.

    I have been going crazy trying to get GoPro video but the vibration ruins it. I looked on DJI website for Osmo shock absorber mount and talked with DJI and they don't have a shock absorber mount but I see you with one. I am confused. Did you build the shock absorber part?
    Thanks for the nice video.

    • @TheBikeStig
      @TheBikeStig  5 років тому

      I don't have too many issues with GoPro from a vibration perspective provided the mount is super solid .. I really like the RAM mounting system personally. The shock absorber item is an accessory from DJI for their OSMO camera product but I've never used that for anything other than the OSMO.

    I am a 50 year old biker( I currently only ride roads I know and I would love to mount MY PHONE to use as a sat nav could you suggest a mounting point and device to use)

    • @TheBikeStig
      @TheBikeStig  4 роки тому

      Gidday Karl, There's quite a few ways to mount GoPro type cameras on helmets, they even make a specific helmet mount which places it on the side. I personally like to mount it right in front of my mouth which is easy to do with normal GoPro mounts and connections. Re the phone, the best one I've seen is called a Quad Lock (I think that's correct) which a lot of my riding buddies have. Me, I have a GS with a proper navigation device. On my last adventure bike I fitted a Garmin Zumo navigator but it looks like the phones are suitable these days being waterproof. Hope this helps.

    Could I ask about the mount by the footrest facing the muffler and the rear
    - Where did you buy it from?
    - Is it ok to mount on for long trips?
    - Do the bolts loosen at high speed?
    I've been looking on the Internet for the ones similar to yours but the vendor doesn't recommend to mount it there for the following reasons I've stated above.
    Thanks in advance

      I never had a problem with it mate, have left it on for long rides. Since I made this video we made a change over to using RAM mounts. There's a shot of this at 8:20 in this video - ua-cam.com/video/jHiyRzTGCwg/v-deo.html - but eventually we came up with a permanent rear mount - watch this video - ua-cam.com/video/5t8ZJdvWvvUI/v-deo.html - I do use thread lock (Loctite) to make sure it doesn't come undone though. Hope those help mate.

    • @TheBikeStig

      It has helped, though it still matters where its mounted. A nice solid mounting point is the first priority as vibration will still go through a ram mount especially if the connector is the longer version (there's 2 different lengths).
