There is a 2 dollar alternative on AliExpress, but it mixes up two wires. Easy fix if you're a bit handy. The only thing you're paying for with the go pro mic adapter is a 330ohm resistor on 2 pins to disable the internal mic.
Agreed, but GoPro messed up on way too many things! The mic input is just the beginning, as I am so ashamed that this is a US based NorCal company (my own Silicon Valley backyard). Top GP6+7 TOTAL FAILURES: battery life (I feel like a slave changing it always interupting all our rides! Often we then just do not bother so we can just ride!), missing innovative 2018 mounting solution (not all of us have to have 101 plastic buckets of parts) from this century, settings ease, an App that is not total crap(80% useless while in field!!!), auto storage feeding copies to mobile automatically as each segment completes (skirting lame cloud ideas that don't work at all as a user would want them to), dumbness of device (speech rarely if ever works, settings and preferences need stored pre-set defaults for one click or special word in the field - well if the speech/voice commands worked that is) adjust in the field of use, fix the auto-rotation (works 30% of the time - and even that's 50/50), and lastly but not leastly fix the damn stupid external "What on earth was your dumb team thinking?!?!!!?" plugin port puuullleeease!
Wow. Excellent video. This is going to be a reference manual for all motorcyclists who go out there with their go-pro's. And I am really happy that I am your 33,333rd Subscribe :) Good luck buddy

Really thank you so much for your exhaustive video on using the GoPro on motorcycles !! I've never seen how in just 20 minutes has lots of useful information to make the most of the GoPro mounted on the motorcycle. I can really say that you used a simple but professional language at the same time. I subscribed to your UA-cam channel and of course I put "like" this fantastic video. Too bad that English is not my language but somehow through writing you have simplified all the steps throughout the video with useful comparisons even if I do not know English.
Excellent info! I'm just starting out and the topics discussed and explained will help me get to grips with all of these new but exciting things to think about.
nice video for the technical part and bike mounts ideas and gear. BUT , i wouldn't recomend any body mount, it's just plain dangerous in case of a crash. Chest mount will break your ribs and helmet mount could break your neck if it struck something (especially top mount) . In my country, on tracks, body mounts are just forbiden for these reasons !
Goestrip disagree! The mounts are made to break under any kind of pressure. Soooooo many ppl have crashed with their action cams on them mounted, I have yet to hear anybody get hurt from the cam itself any worse than the crash. Usually as soon as you hit something the camera goes flying.. Also, while riding, you should wear protective gear like jackets and chest protection, which would easily deflect the energy of a GoPro being squished while you go down.. As for helmet mounts, well with the 3M tape on it and those plastic mounts, yeah, your GoPro will go flying off long before your neck breaks, I’m sure! I’ve used them for long time, as stunt rider, and yeah, I think your country just doesn’t want you recording yourself 😉

It'd be cool to see an update video. Do you know anything about getting music for youtube videos? Like a library of music that won't violate copyright?
Well done. Thanks! I currently use a GoPro 5 Hero (helmet chin mount) along with a Sena Prism (helmet side mount). The GoPro gets good video but the sound is useless (no external mic). The Sena gets excellent BT voice audio, but very little external exhaust/engine/environment audio. It also blocks my BT music from the phone. So I guess, the clunky GoPro external mic setup is the only good option to capture and blend voice with ambient. It's really a shame they didn't rectify the adapter situation with the GP7. Sooooooo annoying!

great video with some valuable info, i do have a question tho. if its a sunny day and i will mostly be riding in the sun, can i set the shutter speed to 120 or 240 when shooting at 60 fps without a nd filter?
Thanks Luca! You can not set the shutter speed to 120 and likely not 240 either, without an ND filter. If you do not have an ND filter, set the shutter speed to Auto.
Cool spots for me are passenger peg frame. Rear view and if on the exhaust side will catch sound nicely. Frame sliders work good to, lower front view and almost no wind noise (on my bike at least). I prefer helmet mount when I travel as I can turn my head around and capture the scenery around me.
