I don't know the regulations there, but here in North Carolina, we would immediately use one of those perfect little perch as live bait for a big one. Hook beneath the dorsal fin, or through the tail. For the carp make a dough bait with cornmeal and strawberry Jello. We use grits where I live, but cornmeal will work too.

As I've previously said, perch are naturally spread everywhere (even to my garden pond) by their sticky eggs which are transported by birds. To a lesser extent the same applies to roach, you saw a herron there so there's the culprit. Great place, keep looking for them, good luck.

    Howdy from Texas.
What a lot of people don't understand is that any viable body of permanent water will more likely than not eventually have fish in them. That's because water born birds of all kinds can eat fish eggs in one location and because fish eggs often survive inside a birds digestive system, the same bird can fly to a totally different body of Water and distribute those same fish eggs into that new body of water through it's feces. Thereby spreading that species of fish to a totally new environment.

The other quarry (with the trout) looked to be a limestone quarry. That water could even be from a limestone spring, it has the blue hue of one! That water is probably very alkaline and rich with life. The water in these quarries look a lot more like the kind of tarns you fish, and might be quite acidic. Theres likely to be a lot less food, and what food there is, the carp will be eating!

And yes, as it is getting warmer in all regions of England, like everywhere else in the world, the English mouse spider is now more common there and in regions where it was previously not to be found.
By poisonous, I meant whether the aussie spider is dangerous to humans. I had written that the English spider is not, or that it is not dangerous to humans. In your area (or in Australia) it is the Missulena occatoria and not the one I mentioned. Have a good night...

Amazing to see fish in a mountain quarry. Always, in these instances, I wonder: did someone cart a jug full of fry up there, and set them loose? Or is it somehow the birds bringing and disgorging eggs??

Spotting Carp on an 'unfished' spot always made me stalk up with floating bread crust. When it works, the pleasure is all yours...

I learnt the painful way that it’s not just the Spinny dorsal fin. THE GILL CASES are like razors. Hold one behind the head. The scales are grippy. Then it shakes around. And you get painful slices that easily get infected

Yes they can be a very tricky fish to handle for people who haven't caught many of them before!

I've done a little sight fishing for carp and have noticed that they will take a bait on the surface or on the bottom, but they are much less keen on baits presented mid-water.
