Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos. I've heard so many good things about Antelopes convertors. The down side was support and how to properly use their gear. I was able to e-mail support to help with getting Studio one to accept their audio interface. I was told by many people not to buy their product, but for the price and about of I/O's I was willing to take a chance. This was only because of your video's and how well you explained everything. I find it easy to use now and I'm very happy with my purchase. Antelope owes you for my purchase and should be sponsoring your videos. God bless you for your the great work.
Thank you for your kind words happy to help!
mr. Gregis…once again, Thank You so much for taking the time to making & sharing this 👍
truly helpful, since i was debating upgrading my beloved gen3…but wasn’t sure if best move…now thanks to you i have a better idea regarding the way to approach the scenario ✅
Awesome! Happy to help.
Thanks for this video. The speaker eq built into the interface is a genius idea, Im surprised no other interfaces offer this feature. That and the 32 I/O make this a very compelling unit.
Agreed!
I also have the orion gen4 and I found the surround tab fantastic and the EQ for room correction increadible. I used to use sonarworks for tuning but i find the sound witb this EQ really more naturel and less digital. I'm still using sonarworks for measurments. Ones argues that this should be a toy compared to trinnov. I haven't used trinnov in my room but I found this surround room correction very convincing.
That’s awesome and I agree!!!!!
it is considered a toy because of the lack of features. Equing is only one part of the equation. Trinnov with it's custom mic can measure your room accurately. It can also measure the phase, distance between speakers and their angle. And the algorithm fixes everything automatically. You can then
apply your own EQ curve on top of the Trinnov correction.
Are the converters better than the Apollo X6?
Thank you for sharing this information about gen 4
But I have a question how I can open phantom power on channe
You’re welcome. There is no phantom on the inputs as these are line inputs not a mic input.
You have to use external pre with them.
This is one of the best videos I have seen about the Orion gen 4. Great well explained information.
Question Please:
Can the Orion Gen 4 definitely be used for 32 Analog inputs (via D-Sub connectors) and also have 32 Outputs through the ANALOG D-Sub connectors when using USB to the DAW.?
*
I want to have the ability to mixdown through my analog mixer (using all 32 analog mixer channels) and I need an interface that can send 32 line level signals to the Analog mixer when connected using my Laptop DAW via USB.
My friend owns the Gen 3 model (he loves it) and he informs me that the Gen 3 will only handle 24 I/0 through the D-Subs via USB 2.0.
*
I wanted to confirm 100% that the Gen 4 32+ (using USB) will have the True Ability to process 32 line level inputs and 32 line level outputs via D-Sub connectors.
If it does this would be great so I can do an analog mix on all 32 channels of the analog mixer, which then gives me the ability to use (if needed) my many vintage outboard gear units.
*
Again, very well done video and super information. The best i have seen on the Gen 4. Thanks in advance for addressing my question.

Thank you.
And yes the Gen 4 will send 32 I/O via USB it is one of the upgrades in the Gen 4 Vs the Gen 3
@@fadygergis This is great news and thanks for the lightning fast reply...
Until your information, I was NOT even considering the Gen 4 as I thought it would be limited to only 24 I/O when using USB. I was actually trying to find a used Gen 3 HD Orion model as that HD model uses USB 3, but now I know the Gen 4 can handle it even though only using USB 2.0...
I would imagine that there's no problem with latency with the USB connection or it would not really be usable...Would that be correct? Thanks again.

@uptownphotography I tested the unit under both TB and USB had no issues with either one.
Actually shoot me an email fady@heartbeatproductions.org
I am planning on selling my Gen 4 as I am upgrading to the galaxy unit.
Mine is literally 2 months old.
@@fadygergis I tried to send you an email but my email program says I need to fix the email address. is it correct as it will not send? Thanks....
Phil
Hmmm that’s weird. Yes that’s my correct email:
fady@heartbeatproductions.org
What is your email?
Love this video. I have a very similar setup using summing and outboard gear with my gen 4. Did you have to do a latency test for you hardware inserts in pro tools? Would you be able to do a video on that as well? Love the antelope content
I did a full other video with setup in Protools. You should check it out on my channel.
Question - Lets say you have 8 mono synths from Line 1-8. How do you send all of them to monitor out 1 and 2?
@@NyakzOTSD I've got the same question. I'm trying to build a headphone mix
Thank you again for your tutorial! The pedagogy is really adapted for this kind of approach. You are a life saver and you've helped me to understand the philosophy of this sound card. I have one question, when you assigned a routing and you got it wrong. How do you cancelled it ? Thank you again
You can either undo or select that routing channel and right click and press mute.
Thank you again =)@@fadygergis
Thanks for the Video. Can you please explain how to connect and make routing multiple Headphones to Orion 32 Gen4?
I think what you’re asking is done thru the digital mixers.
I run zen tour and mine has for separate digital mixers where I send to different players to have their own headphone mix and the actual mix is how I want to hear it on the normal session.
Right now I’m choosing between Orion gen 3 vs gen 4 and your videos help me a lot in choosing. there is very little information and what you did is just a salvation for all of us who are puzzled by the choice. I'm going to use Orion 32 with a PC intel 13600 z790 it's new mb with usb type-c 3,2 gen 2,2. How stable can it work in this setup and is it worth upgrading to a Thunderbolt PCI controller?
I am glad this was helpful.
That setup should be fine without any issue as long as you install the proper drivers. Antelope are a bit confusing about the correct drivers.
Is the buffer size issue fixed on the gen 4?also is there any way to a/b speakers without extra monitor controller on gen4? I’m planning to switch from ua to antelope, and ur video really helps a lot! Thanks fady 🎉
I have the same question.
The buffer size isn’t fixed yet. If you are running usb you are fine. But with TB you are limited still to 512 buffer size because of the 128 I/O
In terms of speaker a/b
Yes you can setup different routing options for your monitor and save those on the preset section. And when you click on those presets ( software or hardware)
You will be able to switch between speakers.
Great work Fady thank you ...
Thank you sir.
thank you for all this detailed review!!!
i have 2 questions:
1) it has only FIXED frequency bands on OUTPUT EQ with no possibility to change frequency of bands))) is it right?
2) does this unit have OUTPUT EQ on headphones outs? (separately\independent of course, not mirrored with any of main outputs)
1. You can change bands on the frequency
2. You can use one of the surround pupils or more and make those cue outputs and in this case you can do what you want with that output and place EQ on it.
Hey Fady ! Thanks a lot for the video and all the info is so helpful ! Really thanks. :)
I have a question hope you can share your opinion.
I have a Dangerous D box Summing ,,, i used to send the signal audio with a Motu to the Dangerous in SPIDIF I/O ,,, but now with the Orion I'm thinking about it ,, what dou you recomend ,,,, still sending from the Orion to the Dangerous in SPIDF I/O and then speakers , or ,,, go out to the speakers with the Monitor out in the Orion and use de dangerous dbox only to make the summing process ? i want to make the best quality decition taking care about the antelope convertors.
Thanks again for your excellent videos.
Both the dangerous Musi band the Orion have great converters.
I would A/B the converters and see which one sounds more natural to your ears and your room.
@@fadygergis thanks ,, i will check both , a few days to decide ! :) hugs
Thanks so much Gergis! This video helps me to change my main interface to new orion. But stiil I'm curious i could use room correction and route that signal to digital path like spidf so i could use my avocet as a main control. Is it possible?
Yes you can. But with SPDIF you can only output stereo you can’t run surround. But if you have only 2 speakers LR then you can do that without any issue.
@@fadygergisthanks for response!
thank you!
My pleasure!
Thanks for the video. How we can connect X16 Microphones to Orion 32+? no XLR input or out put in the back?
You would use external Mic Pres then go line out from those to line inputs on the Antelope unit.
Hi Fady, what about the Buffer Size issue that you mentioned your last video, is this updated? thanks for your video
Still the same unfortunately. They are trying to figure out an update to resolve that. But up to this point it’s still the same issue. I am setting up my unit via USB for now to access 1024 buffer size till that issue is resolved
Thank you so much @fadygergis I am running a console, I am not using a lot of plugins but 512 is a little bit tight, of cours I want to use the 128 channels is part of the benefit, I m sorry about your settup limited for this thing
@ladanzza thank you!
Yeh I hope it’s something they fix soon! Because it’s important for big mixing sessions
@@fadygergis thanks Fady I forgot something important, this issue is because protools? O is in general for all daws? Is noticiable difference BTW the Gen 3? I have the Gen 3 and I am thinking to run my console thru gen 4 but I just what to make shure how noticiable is the difference. Thanks again
This applies to all DAW not just protools. @@ladanzza
Hi! I’m having some issues with my interface. The surround output isn't producing audio. I routed it as you did, but I still can't get it to work. Also, there are some clicks coming from the left output. Have you had any of these issues, and if so, how did you resolve them?
No I didn’t have that issue.
Are you confident that your routing is setup properly?
Can this unit be used in stand alone operation? In other words, can I use Madi into my RME?
Yes but you have to route that from the console which means it has to be connected to a computer first to set your routing.
@@fadygergis I see. Then it will “keep” your settings, even when powered down?
Correct. Because you can even save the settings on the hard buttons ( shortcuts ) on the front of the unit and just recall them.
Did Antelope still not fix the max 512 DAW buffer size issue??
Not yet. I believe they are working on it.
Whenever i select the surround tab, It says "Activate Multichanel Features” and i have no clue where i activate that. I’ve checked everywhere online …
You have to purchase a license for this! It’s not included with the interface.
@@fadygergis I have an MRC, and received a license with it but idk where to activate the license for the multichannel monitoring
@probisk6345 ok. Then you should be able to activate the license in the antelope launcher software.
I know you chose the Galaxy over this unit. And I’m pretty sure you said why but I can’t find the answer as I re watched these.
Could you please tell me again
I wish that I had a Gen 4.
You're becoming QUITE the instructor, Brother.
Haha may be you can upgrade soon ;) hit me up if you are interested
I’m looking to get into computer recording but after seeing this video, I think it’s gonna be a little too much for my taste. Sure, it’s a great unit but what a real pain in the ass.
Why did the marketing/PR, photography dept decided to flat out misrepresent in a most disingenuous way by failing in reality that the all new L+R Display-Hardware Info displays aka Meter Screens look awful?
