      Last year I was forced to update my perfectly fine 84 channel MOTU setup because of OS / HW incompatibility (thanks Apple!).. I am now running an Antelope Orion 32 + Gen 4 and two SSL XLogic Alpha Link Live-R for a total of 90 channels of I/O. The routing capabilities of the Antelope Control Panel software is just incredible, especially the matrix window (not explored in this video), and I am able to recall mixes from the old setup seamlessly..!

      I've been looking at the Metric Halo LIO-8mkIV. The converters have been getting excellent reviews for their sound quality. It also includes and extensive Metric Halo plug-in package. Seems like a good value if you don't need preamps. They also have the ULN-8mkIV which does include preamps.

      I have a doubt, using the antelope patch. For example, If send the sound from the output of a preamp to the input of a compressor, do an A/D and a D/A conversion , isn't it? I understand that it's important remember not to digitally clip. 🤔

    There are other converters with dsp mixers, for example the lynx aurora.
    For me the biggest most important question is the dsp mixer and how it operates.
    With lynx you can make a seperate mix for all outputs, I think. Is that possible with the orion?

    Can this be used with a 24 Track Tape Machine and a 24 track console? I mean, wouldn't I need 24 in/out for that? what happens to the other 8 channels if I only have 24 channels on console & tape machine? Will that mess everything up?

    • @hoborec
      @hoborec 10 днів тому

      That is what I used my earlier Orion 32 for. At the moment I don't have my 24 track but that's the plan for the near future. I mean it never hurts with extra ins/outs. You can route monitoring to the musicians through them if you don't want to waste auxes on the console for example.

    I have the new RME UFXIII and Im kind of wishing I had the antelope. I prefer USB connections, which I like about RME but the damn thing has like NO freakin analog inputs/outputs. Whats the freaking point of that? I should have researched better, but RME is a solid company. The Antelope reports of issues and bad service scared me off

    • @lucianoluggren
      @lucianoluggren 10 днів тому +2

      Don't worry, you have an interface for the next 10 years and the UFX are expandable if you need more analog inputs and outputs. RME are the masters of PC drivers.

    • @Rhuggins
      @Rhuggins 10 днів тому

      @ yeah but another RME converter is like 3 more thoudand for another 16ins and outs. So its more about the total value proposition

    • @lucianoluggren
      @lucianoluggren 10 днів тому +2

      @@Rhuggins Look at the Ferrofish options in the future if you want to expand I/O. They have for example the Pulse 16 converter, a 16in/16out analog/adat (SMUX up to 96khz) converter for $1099 and with MADI option (192khz) for $1350.

    • @p.m-audio
      @p.m-audio 10 днів тому +2

      I have the UFX 3 too in combination with ferrofish Pulse 16 hooked up over madi, i have enough inputs and outputs and all is contolled over Totalmix, and i give some phone calls to RME in Germany for a couple of questions, and they helped me a lot there....and i love this Setup. so dont worry you did the ricght choice just upgrade your UFX with a cheap behringer IN OUT or go for Ferrofish and you will be fine. Totalmix is awesome with the Remotecontrol ARC USB

    • @Rhuggins
      @Rhuggins 10 днів тому

    I will never buy antelope again after my nightmare with Discrete 4 Synergy core. Had 4 times my computer remotely operated, thunderbolt never worked, antelope launcher crashes so i couldnt turn on phatnom power, afx2daw never worked, effects somedays worked and some other not, every update destroy the previous stability, they didnt have 32bit processing and the implementation was awful, some of the adaptes consisted in having publicity on the antelope launcher. Auraverb was a chorusy reverb totally crap. Once you buy you cant get out, i had a 2 channels recording and have clicks on it. Lame. My experience.
