I was originally planning to buy BOTW for Wii U. i got to walmart a mere 30 minutes before opening, and that was enough to secure a ticket for a Switch. So instead of just spending $60, i wound up spending something like $500 for console, game, pro controller and an amiibo. Worth it.
Yup, similar story here. I was in line at Best Buy and they had extra tickets + the people in the line convinced me to buy the Switch 🤣 Happy I did, cause I remember it being sold out for a bit after launch
"An Amiibo" I still haven't found any amiibo that gives you Epona, that's why I just stopped playing it. Doing the final boss on a different horse would just feel wrong, and until I get an unofficial Amiibo card online or something I'm probably not finishing it.
I wanted a Wii U because I wanted Mario Maker, and I wanted a switch because I wanted Mario Maker 2. I bet there’s gonna be another Nintendo console, they’re gonna have Mario Maker 3D, and I’m gonna want it because of that-
I think the biggest reason why Tokyo Mirage Sessions never had an English dub (outside of saving money) would be that most of the characters are idols, so they sing. Getting VAs that can sing and having to pay to have English versions of all of the songs produced likely killed any chance of a dub.
I think it's just money. There's a lot of idol anime that is dubbed in English and yet they still have the songs stay in Japanese. It'd be standard if there was 0 English songs. If they actually did re-record in English, that'd be going the extra mile.
That kind of reminds me that many years ago anime opening and ending songs were translated and dubbed into Spanish, many of them being pretty good covers. But since the 2000s that practice kind of stopped, the only recent anime whose songs were translated for the Spanish are Fairy Tail, World Trigger and Dragon Quest the Adventure of Dai
I think the main reason was sales. The game flopped hard even in Japan and Nintendo probably wasn't expecting it to perform well in the West. The Switch version didn't sell great either.

Tropical Freeze was even more eggregous because it had been released as a Nintendo Selects title and was $20 for years, AND the Wii U version got delisted from the Switch eShop.
I recall that all titles on all of their online storefronts share the same database, so it could've been possible that Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze having the same name could've confused an employee and made them think the Wii U title was an accidental duplicate (considering the game has the same title on the switch)

I've never seen Mario Kart abbreviated as MK (not saying it hasn't been done, I just never seen it). So thought at first you were talking about fucking Mortal Kombat, lol
Kind of a fun fact: You can still play as Blue Toad in NSMBD, it needs to be activated through a little command, but idk if you can play both as Yellow and Blue Toad at the same time
One of the funniest things about the 3DS version of Treasure Tracker are the Odyssey levels, it’s so mindbending to see super Mario odyssey levels on a 3DS
As an avid LEGO fan, you have no idea how happy I was when they announced the LEGO City Undercover ports. It was one of the first LEGO games I skipped out on just because I didn't have a Wii U, and finally having a chance to play it was sweet. As for the cosmetic changes I have an idea why they did that. Chase McCain has continued to appear in LEGO content since the game came out, including multiple set releases and I think he even shows up in their new TV show. The new outfit was one of the newer updated figures they made to give collectors more incentive to buy their 50th LEGO cop car.
Kinda surprised that the Wonderful 101 Remastered wasn't talked about. It was one of the more unique Wii U games that suddenly got a remaster, and to other platforms, no less, right when most people thought it was a Nintendo-owned IP.

I know why the Wii U version of Breath of the Wild pauses when you hit the HOME button. Its because the Wii U only has 2 GB of RAM, typically 1 GB is reserved for games while the other 1 GB is for system functions. Breath of the Wild is such a large game though that it needs both GB of RAM and so it has to push the game into a swap partition in the system memory to bring up the HOME menu. The pause is the game loading back into RAM.

The main thing on Nintendo's side is that many of these games sold more on the Switch then there was hardware on the Wii U side. Makes me wonder if the system did better how well these games would had done if the Wii U it'self had done better in general.
LEGO City Undercover is one of my favorite LEGO games of all time so it’s great to have it on Switch and take it anywhere. Plus it had some enhancements like a revamped lighting engine and two player co-op.
They changed Chase police outfit to be more blue, for the release of the new figure, and since then, Chase hasn't appeared anymore :( (He was in Lego Dimensions btw)
You know, Scott, if you enjoy making videos like this, make these videos. These are great. I feel as though you may have set a standard too high for your main channel. This could be why you aren’t uploading there hardly ever nowadays since you want everything there to be so great. We all appreciate these videos.
I still get the feeling the Scott the Woz channel will probably be retired after he finishes up the Wii U saga of videos. I feel like most of his passion now comes the Scott’s Stash video (which have been really good), which also gets updated frequently to the point where the YT algorithm will recommend more Scott’s Stash videos than it does Scott the Woz videos. Scott’s Stash feels more like the main channel while Scott the Woz feels like the secondary that’s updated once in a blue moon.
This video brought me back to a memory I had long forgotten: Playing Lego City Undercover as a kid and waiting AGES (in kid time) with my brother during the loading screens.
One thing to mention as well is that some games, like Donkey Kong, not only were 50 dollars at launch, went to nintendo selects, bringing them down to 20 dollars. Searching the game on the website when the switch version arrived would give you the game on wii u for 20 and the switch version for 60
Back then I used to carry the Wii U with me everywhere I go and bring it to people's houses for those who are unable to find a Wii U and we played together.
Its so weird, i remember some conventions having a Wii U in a room and people being very curious about it. They used every chip on the system to make it work, that's what i think atleast, the chipset on Switch is wildly different, even the registry or references inside of them could be a huge pain to do a port... most Nintendo games are made on a Windows environment, even Pikmin for the Gamecube probably booted natively on a PC, but they do so much testing and configurations for the thing to work like it does on the system, and i imagine the X devs did so much to use every juice that the Wii U could give, that the game would work weird directly on other systems... unless you emulate the Wii U, wich aparently isn't that hard... will the Switch emulate the Wii U eventually?
Bowser’s Fury is extremely underrated. People often ask when the next 3D Mario game will come out, forgetting an entirely new one released in 2021. It might not be as robust as Odyssey or 3D World, but it’s a fully fleshed out game nevertheless and does lots of new and cool things.
@@poudink5791 It’s more than 4 hours if you go for 100%, but length isn’t what determines whether or not it’s a legit game. That’s no shorter than plenty of other Mario games.

I got the WiiU version of Breath of the Wild first, and I didn't get the switch version until Fall of 2017, when birthdays started happening in my family; which is how i can truthfully say that I beat BotW on WiiU before even buying the switch version!
I was that person who was STOCKED to see Tokyo Mirage Sessions come to Switch. I wanted a Wii U for Bayonetta 2 and TMS, so when they both came over I was stocked. The music in that game is incredible and I loved all the characters. Would love to see them do something like this again.
It's always weird seeing him talk about the Wii U BOTW like it's a relic, that was the version I played. Got the DLC too. It's like seeing someone talk about how lonely your friend is. Hey I just hung out with him last week!
I bought a refurbished Wii U bundle off Nintendo's site when breath of the Wild came out. I've got over a thousand hours in that version (Yes, really) and yeah, the thing about the switch version having better sound effects is 100% true. it's just really subtle and most people won't notice it. they're like, higher quality than the Wii U version. for someone like me that's heard the Wii U sound effects over and over and over again for so long, when I started playing the switch version I immediately noticed it. I always thought it was funny Nintendo even brought it up, but props for their honesty and attention to detail, it's definitely there.
The devs of Pokkén Tournament had always meant for it to be called that, as that's its legal Japanese name as well; only in German was it renamed to Pokémon Tekken and even then it's only because of the way the German word for smallpox, pocken, is pronounced.
There's still three great Wii U games that haven't been ported over, for some stupid, inane reason - Twilight Princess HD, The Wind Waker HD, and Xenoblade Chronicles X. If those were to release on the Switch, not only would there be no point to owning a Wii U (outside of Virtual Console, if you bought stuff before the eShop shutdown), but the Switch would have _every_ Xenoblade game, and *finally* get some amazing 3D Legend of Zelda games.
Fascinating thing about MK8 assisted driving: most kids now play with the settings on. So when I brought in Mario Kart Wii for my students to play, they all immediately went off the edge or got turned around since the game isn’t steering for them
That's... Kinda sad... I'm reminded of what Scott said in his MK8 Deluxe video. "I'm worried about how Smart Steering and Acceleration will affect the driving abilities of our youth" and then cuts to Scott sitting in his parked car yelling "Go!"
@@CStars55 I mean, it’s funny that he’s kinda right. I think it’s mostly cause the features are automatically on and most kids don’t notice to turn them off. It just means they are at a mega disadvantage without them. Growing up with Mario Kart DS, I certainly didn’t have the problem when I was their age.
I find these types of modes to be kind of insulting. Let the kids figure out the driving, don't have a setting that does most of the work for them. Sure, some might turn it off after using it for a while, but it's really easy to grown complacent and expect it in other racing games.
I was very resilient on buying Mario Kart 8 again but just like you said, when the new tracks were announced, I just couldn't fight it anymore. At least I got the base port on discount for waiting that long!
Wii U games that haven't been ported to Switch: * Super Mario Maker 1 * Splatoon 1 * Paper Mario Color Splash * Wind Waker HD * Twilight Princess HD * Nes Remix 1 & 2 * Nintendo Land * Game & Wario * Star Fox Zero * Kirby and the Rainbow Curse * Xenoblade Chronicles X * Yoshi's Woolly World * Devil's Third And we can't forget Scott's personal favorites: Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis Ultra Smash.

Interesting take on Captain Toad - I just realized that they may have released it too soon. Should've at least waited until the Lite was out and promoted it as a handheld game primarily, not changing the ending and having Labo support from the start.
as much as wii u ports are controversial, I really just want a "Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition" so the entire series can be playable on the system

As a Wii U owner the only port I’ve bought is Pikmin 3 Deluxe in order for Pikmin 4 to happen. Other than that it’s not worth spending $60 on a game you already own.
@@ianeons9278 You are an idiot. Every game should have a Funky Mode. If they don't, the game is objectively a 2/10 at best. Funky Mode brings the best out of games, yet Tropical Freeze Deluxe, is the only one to do so. Therefore, it is a 57/10.
i love that Treasure Tracker is the Mandela effect simulator, also lets be honest here, having a New Super Mario collection is only worth it for the people who wants to know what a Plain Bread overdose feels like, still would had appreciated if they added more features from said games like the Mega Mushroom or the Cannon stages or not having to play with Toadette/Nabbit on co-op
I didn't get BOTW for Switch until 2021. For years, I only had the Wii U version. The biggest difference for me going to the switch version was having motion controls on the pro controller since I didn't usually use the wii u gamepad to play.
Honestly, Pikmin 3 Deluxe's Gamecube controls with the lock-on enabled feel way better than Wii remote controls. Lock-on is less of a hassle over having to constantly point at the screen.
The 3D world port will always hold a special place in my heart. I remember picking this up right after it came out in 2021 and absolutely adoring it. My girlfriend who I had been doing long distance with at the time ended up picking it up as well and we would spend hours on end playing this together everyday over the phone via online play. This game was so monumental for us especially since Covid at the time had still been raging on very strongly so this gave us something fun to do over the phone. We're finally living a normal life together now as we aren't doing long distance anymore but I always look back at this game with great memories. For those who haven't played this game yet I highly suggest as its just an overall good time
I love the Scott’s stash videos. In the earlier ones he would say “uuuhhmm” a lot when talking which is a pet peeve of mine but it seems he has gotten better hahaha
I remember playing botw on the wii u, was my first experience with the game, im a traditional zelda guy but playing that game as a young kid was magical.
I ended up replacing all my Wii U games with the Switch ports. Some of which includes new content. There were also a few games I eventually got for the Switch that I never had on Wii U. I was so happy Hyrule Warriors got ported with all the 3DS content, but there is a bit of a downside of the Switch port. I really miss the Wii U pad item wheel that made it so convenient to use. Picking a item with D-pad feels like a downgrade. Also the in game cutscenes are no longer in game, and this is evident in which costumes you picked would show up in those cutscene in the Wii U version. But to me these sacrifices are very minor and Im very happy with the Switch port.
I feel Yoshi's Wooley World is the last great Wii U game not to be be ported (though its a shameMario Maker 2 lacked Amiibo characters and levels like the first). Such a great platformer. Loved Kirby and the Rainbow Curse but that requires touchscreen controls so i understand if it'll never get a port.
You think New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe on Switch is a weird title, but there's an even stranger one with HyperDimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed released originally for the PlayStation Vita, later ported to PC. It was never released on Wii U.
4:33 this is because BOTW on Wii U uses more than the 1GB of RAM allocated for games, so when you press the home button it switches back to the normal configuration When you go back in it has to swap back
I didn't have a Wii U so I saw the Sheikah slate as a Switch. The case I got for my switch with the BOTW collectors edition kinda helped cement that. This is after years of playing smash 4 on my friends' Wii Us. Tropical Freeze stings but I suppose that's why I have my Steam Deck
Tokyo Mirage Sessions remains one of my favorite Switch ports. When recommending it to friends, I like to say it's a good gateway game to the Persona series. A nice, lighthearted story that's not super long, and gives you a taste of Persona gameplay with Fire Emblem references. While I especially love the new content added to Encore. I just wish it included an English dub. This wasn't a problem for me at first, but then Tokyo Mirage Sessions characters were added to Fire Emblem Heroes with new English voices. Would love to see a sequel someday.
I actually got Breath of the Wild for Wii U close to launch, my friend bought a Switch with BotW and I bought the Wii U version at the same time, we played together and really, there isn't much difference. The Wii U version runs at 720p and the Switch runs at 900p, which doesn't really matter much if you're using a 4K TV nowadays since it's gonna be upscaled anyway and 720p is more common. The Wii U has some slowdowns in places that the Switch doesn't have, but the reverse if true, some scenes run better on the Wii U for whatever reason, so it's pretty much the same. I love when Wii U games are ported to the Switch because that means the Wii U version becomes basically worthless, I bought Bayonetta 2 + 1 for $30 on Wii U not long ago because I couldn't find the Switch version for less than $60 and I wanted the physical version of the original. I've found Super Mario 3D Land for like $15, Tropical Freeze for less than $20, Pokken for $10, Hyrule Warriors for $15 and many more. Sure, the Switch versions are better, but not 3 times the price better and let's be real, I probably won't play them anyway, it's mainly for my collection.
16:59 They probably did it so the box art would match the sets currently on shelves. Because Lego sets retire after a couple years, the old box art would not be up to date with the stuff on shelves.
I hope they port tears of the kingdom to the next Nintendo console. The game really needed the extra performance, hopefully it gets a patch to address it soon. But if they can get something that's even close to the current gen in the next console it would run plenty of their first party "next gen" games at 60 fps minimum. Or they need to remake actual classics instead of stuff that was just last gen, it was more than understandable going from the Wii U to the Switch though. But the next console should just be able to take your Nintendo library and emulate it with higher performance than a Switch.
@@quinnkiley9030 If it's not I hope they don't expect people to buy the remakes like they did for the Wii U stuff cause unless someone's just never played the game it's not gonna happen. I'd say backwards compatibility is just as important as the very needed hardware upgrades.
I don't think botw 2 isn't going to be ported to switch successor because it mostly be available at day of the switch successor eshop that same way the dsi games that were available on day one on the 3ds eshop

The 3D world port will always hold a special place in my heart. I remember picking this up right after it came out in 2021 and absolutely adoring it. My girlfriend who I had been doing long distance with at the time ended up picking it up as well and we would spend hours on end playing this together everyday over the phone via online play.

I didn't have a Wii U so I saw the Sheikah slate as a Switch. The case I got for my switch with the BOTW collectors edition kinda helped cement that. This is after years of playing smash 4 on my friends' Wii Us.

The only port I double dipped on for Switch was Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with the changes in that version and the huge track dlc.
Just occasionally, Scott sounds like Otacon from MGS
I'm still mad that they didn't port Xenoblade X to the Switch. Literally the only game left to go back to the Wii U for.
thank you scott
16:55 they probably made these changes so that the stuff in the game would match the sets LEGO was selling at the time
All these classics but no Mighty Number 9.
😓
That game bricked like a thousand consoles lol
Split-screen Lego City Undercover on the XBone was a delight for me and my kids.
But the next console should just be able to take your Nintendo library and emulate it with higher performance than a Switch.
we gotta prey the Switch 2 is backwards compatible
@@quinnkiley9030 If it's not I hope they don't expect people to buy the remakes like they did for the Wii U stuff cause unless someone's just never played the game it's not gonna happen. I'd say backwards compatibility is just as important as the very needed hardware upgrades.
I don't think botw 2 isn't going to be ported to switch successor because it mostly be available at day of the switch successor eshop that same way the dsi games that were available on day one on the 3ds eshop
@@SlyRyFry I mean the hybrid model is here to stay so i imagine the next system is gonna be BC and they'll just throw out next gen updates like sony and ms do.
Haven’t played it yet but I 100% agree.
The Windwaker is one of my favorite Zelda games and the HD verson on Wii U made me happy, also Twilight Princess HD... I still waiting the Switch ports so I can finally sell my Wii U
