- Watch Maruti Suzuki Nexa's second car Baleno's first drive review. Baleno is based on Suzuki new generation platform. Maruti Baleno is the second premium product after S-Cross and to be sold exclusively through their Nexa dealerships.
Exteriors:
Baleno follows a liquid flow design and looks striking and imposing. At the front, it has smoked out headlamps housing projectors and with daytime running light. Coming to side profile, it comes with beautiful curves and window frames. It has large 16inch wheels and the A, B and C pillars are laid out with black. There is a chrome strip placed in between the windscreen and tailgate rendering it a distinctive look. Adding to its elegance is the rear spoiler, which is integrated with a high mount third brake light.
Interiors:
The dashboard of Baleno comes with the black scheme with silver and chrome accents. The three spoke steering wheel with multi-functional switches mounted on it. It has touchscreen audio unit infotainment system placed in the center fascia with chrome surround. On the other hand, the top end trims of Baleno may have features like parking sensors, advanced SmartPlay infotainment system, power foldable mirrors, automatic climate control. In terms of safety, Maruti offers all the crucial facilities like ABS with EBD, dual airbags, immobilizer and a few security functions. At the rear, there is an enough legroom for three passengers. It gets a boot space of 339 litres.
Engine and Performance:
Baleno will offer both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol option will be 1.2-litre K- series and DDiS DOHC Motors unit which produces maximum power of 83bhp and 115Nm of torque. While the diesel version will be a 1.3-litre DDiS190 unit with an output of 74bhp at 4000rpm and a torque output of 190Nm at 2000rpm. Baleno coupled with five-speed transmission. Coming to ride and handling, it absorbs bad surfaces and steering of Baleno is neither light nor heavy.
Verdict:
This upcoming hatchback is all set to arrive in the Indian market by the end of this month which is expected to be launched on October 26. It will compete to target other leading rivals like Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz, Volkswagen Polo and all new Ford Figo

Sir got confused between Zest xms petrol and baleno Delta petrol... the which one go for... less city us and more highway use..
Go for Baleno, it has more space and it is pretty light on the steering. On top of that, you get better features in it.

How was the rear seat passenger comfort of suspension? It was batter then swift or not?
+Utsav Pandya Baleno’s suspension has been tuned as a city run-about. It takes potholes and slightly rough roads really well. The higher wheelbase makes it less agile but that is the price you will have to pay for larger cabin space. Having said that, we found the handling really predictable. Another thing that impressed us is the steering unit. It’s light at low speeds and well weighted at higher speeds. They really have us impressed here as when we compare it to the Elite i20 and the Jazz, their steering continues to be light at high speeds. A huge thumbs up to the suspension and steering departments at Maruti for what they’ve pulled off with the Baleno. The ride & handling is spot on for city driving conditions and the occasional highway jaunts.

I need a suggestion. The price difference between Zeta and Alpha trim of diesel varient being over 70K, is the projector headlamp, rearview camera and infotainment system worth the difference? How much extra would it cost if at some later date the projector headlamp and rearview cam is installed on the Zetta trim?

Hey Aditya, I would like to inform you that baleno is much lighter than i20. Though it got 84ps of power but due to it's lighter weight baleno can definitely take over i20.
In addition to this, I would recommend you to go with petrol variant as it fits best for the city conditions and perform a good job on highways. Rather, diesel variant is bit more noisier also it takes more than 2k rpm to come into action.

stylish double sloted sliver tail lights (which we seen in promotions) also in only top alpha trim...other 3 trims have looks boring tail lights....which is not clarifies even in maruti brochure....costumers thinks that only projector head lights are different but the fact is tail lights also different for lower (sigma,delta,zeta...all have same)trims....

Rear looks and road presence are excellent.
Front looks same as swift and its ordinary.
same diesel engine as Swift is a failure in my opinion.
Good safety in all variants is a welcome plus.
Inside cabin space looks to be very good.
All in all an above average product and it would have been an awesome product with better engine options.

Petrol performs pretty well in terms of power and it also has quicker gearshifts.
Guys, the car maybe good as people are paid for review but before booking please check if NEXA is actually delivering the cars or not. They have launched the car but have no cars to deliver. Also the NEXA Experience is simply a fancy showroom with free Tea & Coffee. There is nothing more premium about it as said by their own showroom managers.

Maruti Baleno 1.2 Zeta , the mid-range version is geared up to take on the likes of the Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz, Volkswagen Polo and Fiat Punto Evo. This trim has a huge package of features, which include antilock braking system, electronic brake force distribution, driver seat belt reminder and dual front airbags. The passenger comfort is also taken care of with the likes of automatic air conditioning, central locking, front and rear seat adjustable headrests. Looks wise, it is stunning from inside as well as outside with aspects, such as alloy wheels, chrome finished door handles and a sleek front grille. However, its interior has metal inserted front footwell illumination, door handles and a parking brake lever. This model gets an impressive braking mechanism along disc and drum brakes affixed to its front and rear wheels, respectively. Mechanically, it is very efficacious in producing 115Nm through an 1198cc petrol engine that comes with a DOHC valve configuration and coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. The manufacturer is offering 2 year or 40000 Kilometers (whichever is first) basic warranty. This can also be further increased by an extended warranty program.
Pros:
1. Impressive safety features.
2. Fuel efficiency is good.
Cons:
1. Interiors can be made better.
2. Luggage room is slightly lesser than other contender.

Go for Aspire, it has got the best in class power and is great to drive. The second priority would be Baleno.
Why 339 lit boot in India? It was 355 lit when launched in Europe.
How's Baleno diesel? Just because of waiting period, I have booked 1.2 & 1.3 Zeta. As I see only 74bhp, how does it perform on road? is it too lag or irrespective of its power it does good? which one should I go for (petrol or diesel)? I am not worried about extra cost for diesel vehicle nor petrol fuel cost? I need information on pickup, drive, speed comparision. Appreciate your valuable response.
Hey Sashi, both engines suffer from the known turbo lag in this engine. Diesel is indeed more power and punchier than the petrol but none feels under powered. The choice of fuel type would depend on how much you drive. If you drive more more than 1500 km in a month you should go for diesel otherwise petrol is a suitable option.
Seriously, 200 kg lighter than the elite i20? That is really disconcerting to know. The only way you can reduce weight without compromising on body stiffness is by using composite materials which at this end of the price range is definitely not possible. So it's safe to assume that Maruti have gone for thinner sheet metal compromising on cabin intrusion in crashes leading to a highly unsafe crash structure. The fact that they have gone in for the lower powered fiat diesel engine accentuates the possibility that the chassis simply can't manage such kind of power. The car has already created a flimsy build conception in my mind.

Thick and strong body panels are not necessarily safe. Thinner panels are more prone to dents but they are not unsafe. In a car crash, the chassis and panels (are supposed to) crumple and absorb kinetic energy of the impact and not transmit it to passengers.

Both cars are great to drive and have less maintenance and awesome mileage. However, Baleno has a lot to offer you as compared to swift. In the cost of Swift VDi, Baleno has a petrol variant which is 1.2 Zeta petrol. Baleno has better space as compared to swift and looks nicer too. If you wish to go for a diesel variant then you should go for Swift as the Baleno diesel is going to cost you more and if petrol variant seems feasible to you, then there is no better choice than Baleno. sort of disappointed with the review; Baleno is talked about for its doubtful safety aspects and the reviewer did not go much into it; just that EBD, ABS and dual airbags - we can already read it in the spec sheet; the lightweight of the car worries me to take it on the highway but of course, this car is brilliant for urban rides.
its clearly mentioned that its new platform and structure is lighter and stronger, no need to worry about safety.
I am a bit confused.. I am looking to buy a new car in the range from 6.5 to 7.8! I am considering Swift Dzire Vxi I20 Sportz and Baleno Delta. Which one should i go for? Boot space is not a major influencing factor for me.

Guys please tell me honestly that how the Baleno car is ? Is it right for the users? Don't misguide the peoples because spending 7-8 lakhs again n again is not an easier for a middle class family. As i have seen lots of negative comments on different - different sites, all the comments and reviews has made me totally confused to buy a Baleno. Please tell me honestly should i go for Baleno or for other cars.

Maruti has truly delivered where it matters the most.While looks are subjective, its noteworthy to point out that the overall styling of the car is distinctive.Coming to the comfort, with the front seats adjusted for 6-foot adults,the rear seat floor is also relatively flat, though shoulder width is typically the two-and-a-half adults.The interior of the Baleno, to sum up, is spacious and well-equipped, and even well designed.
On the handling, the chassis seems pretty capable but the steering feels a bit light in comparison. Baleno is extremely stable at triple digit speeds, it feels a lot more confident to drive.
Do take a test drive before you make a final call.

Baleno and i20 do not have much of a difference when it comes to space or features. i20 has rear AC vents which is something which Baleno lacks, but it covers it up with a great AC. They have a difference when it comes to drive quality . Baleno is light on the steering and i20 offers you right amount of feedback and great for cornering. No it is not true. Baleno's gross weight is less and hence there are certain rumors about the built quality and safety. However, they aren't true. Baleno is based on a special technology for the first time by Maruti which is called TECT. Due to which Maruti was able to reduce the weight of the car without compromising with safety and built. It has scored 3 on the Euro NCAP test. Hence , you should not worry about it that much.

Power and torque that they generate are almost the same. i20 has got rear AC vents and a chilled glove box which unfortunately lack in the Baleno and Baleno has EBD which lacks in i20. Not really. Because of the light body and reduced weight it doesn't feel that confident on higher speeds, but you don't always go beyond 120 on Indian roads.

Disappointed Completely. Is it a so called luxury car from Maruti ? Very funny. Far away to compete with Elite i20. As before Maruti is leader only in small car segment like alto not in luxury at all. Hyundai and Honda are doing great work to strive their product with complete luxury and still keeping it affordable.
