Thanks to the owner for letting us hear it and to you who played real nicely and recorded it very well. Having newer MHS 'PAFs'myself this is ia great reference to compare them to.
I had the privilege of playing legit 59 burst at the NY Guitar show approximately 20 years ago. Ive always loved Les Pauls. I still own the Black 1980 sStandard my dad bought me as a birthday gift. I still use it out on gigs. It just got better with time. I agree with what Mr Burn said about vintage guitars feeling different. My guitar has the "speed neck" employed by Gibson in 1960, after they re tooled all their equipment due to aging. The 59 Neck is a bit thicker and took a bit getting use to, but thanks to the gentleman who was selling it, he let me play until I warmed up. After 5 minutes, I wanted it! Lol needless ti say I had Champagne taste with a beer pocket book. He let me play it through a 50 watt Marshall. No pedals. Just amp settings. the clean sound was a dream. Perfect. for jazz and the type of playing Mr Burns demonstrates here. Highly responsive and enjoyable. The real "balls" if you will came our when I was allowed to bring the gains and all the other settings up and the nice gentleman sugessted I "shred" a little. Man the high and low end were amazing, not to mention the sustain, especially in the rhythm pickup setting. Again, stock electronics and everything. The only thing doet to the guitar was an excellent refret job done by Rudy Penza of Rudys Music on 48st in Manhattan the gentleman told me. I don not even know if Rudys is still there. It was my understanding he did Several of Mr Claptons guitars as well. Back to the Les Paul. It was amazing. Yes it had marks in the usual places such as belt marks in the back, and wear on the back of the neck. It was apparent the former owner used it as intended. To be played. Not put in a sealed room to be looked at. My guitars tone became better over 30 years of constant playing. Obviously this one did as well. The only hope I will ever have of owning one of these gems os to maybe stumble across a Gibson Custom shop job. Even those are out of this word price wise. I also own a 1974 Strat and a 1970 Tele.Both wonderful instruments and I wouldnt get rid of them for the world. I just keep going back to the sweet familiarity of my Les Paul. Especially if I want a really hard edge or a harder "bluesy" sound. I had a younger guitarist, about 30 years younger than I , suggest I put active electronics in mine to give the guitar a more harder punch for todays music. I gently explained my rational for not. I explained that the instrument itself is capable of talking the way I want it with out having too drill holes into it and rely on batteries. He really did not understand the significance or history of the Les Paul family of guitars. I suggested if he had the money, buy a modern Les Paul Studio and put which ever electronics he wished in it. I would even help pay for the installation. He plays a Jackson, I forget the model, with all active electronics in it . The works. He did purchase one and I paid for all the electronic upgrades he wanted. After 6 months I finally asked him where his Jackson was. HE was honest and told me the Les Paul puts the Jacson to sleep I chuckled at that.Im just sorry these instruments are priced so far out of the average guy/girls hands. Even the Gison reproductions. There has to be a way to re introduce these remarkable instruments to todays players. Not just the Les Pauls but the Fenders, Martins, and other "old "school" instruments without breaking the financial backs of the buyers. On a side note, the younger gentleman and I became good friends and still play regularly to this day. He also told me that lack of a tremolo bar forced him to work extensively on his vibrato approach and he sounds fantastic.. He still uses the Jackson of course, but if he wants to express raw emotion, the Les Paul is in his hands. At my wife urging, and without his knowledge, I redid my will recently and left my Guitars, Amps , all my related equipment and anything else related to my musical backroad to him upon my death. Im not a well known guitar player. Im not a Van Halen or a Gary Moore or Steve Morse. Just a guy who loves music of all types and loves guitars. I highly suggest to anyone who loves Les Pauls, maby check out the Epiphone line. I haven't played one yet but my friends are telling me they are excellent and affordable. Sorry for the long rant and for boring anyone. Chalk it up to old age. Lol. Peace everyone.

Sounds great and it`s a nice guitar with all the patina and stuff...but the main reason that it sounds so good is that you really can play...90% of the tone comes out of your hands
I love the les Paul my step-dad has a ‘94 epiphone les Paul gold top and I use it quite a lot and it’s probably the best guitar I’ve ever played my point is the les Paul is AMAZING

Stripped bursts are actually historical though. There's several famous examples .. I wouldn't have refinished a 59, whatever the condition .. But its all good. :)
....If thing could be so simple......there are lots of workmans who build with love and pride but they haven t achieved that standard since today......
New Les Pauls often DO sound as good as this one and the construction on original 59 to 60s was inconsistent so the comment about quality below is rubbish.
The Rossington signature model I was able to play had a very special character, besides being a real eye-catcher. It is close to a 59, but especially the clean sound does not compete imho which of course also has to do with the pickups. Apart from that it is a rocker and a great Les Paul model built in modern times.
It's the original neck, thus the headstock crack. They varied form one to the other, add on mods, refinishing and re-sanding and it's likely unique to itself by now.

Und ja mit Vintage Instrumenten ist es wie mit neuen Gitarren: manche schauen gut aus und lassen sich nicht so dolle spielen bzw. klingen "normal", andere wiederum sind schlicht exorbitant gut und klingen einzigartig. Man muß sie halt in die Hand nehmen und einstöpseln/spielen - irgendwie ist es dann auch wie mit Schuhen. :))))
Dear Mike - I think the real reason you talk so much at the beginning of your videos is to save us poor viewers from having our jaws dropped to the ground for the entire length. That would be both uncomfortable and very unhygienic. The tone of the '59 Gibson from 4:15 onwards is just unbelievable. Your playing is also excellent, as ever....

In fact I don't understand - at all - the concept of 'restoring' vintage guitars and erasing all the years of character. Sadly Chibson with upgraded electronics and high end pickups blows away most Gibsons, I'd put mine up against any R9 pretty much
