Nerds and Cowboys seconded! They could pull this from UA-cam next week and sell all four combined Uber that title and I'd buy it. Not only that, I'd subscribe if they decided to do a podcast where they did the same rundown of every other current world leader's political structure, except without any standard for accuracy
His office with the woods in the background which is getting dark you are listening the podcast, kind of surreal. Had to binge all four parts! Also, CK is becoming a true philosopher.
That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons, two vilified comedians can come together out of friendship, love and mutual respect and put out the best podcast I've ever seen.
I watched all four parts of this podcast in one day. It was so engrossing that I couldn't stop watching. The real gem was listening to Louis for the last 30 minutes or so of part 4. So great to listen to Shane and Louis hope there is more to come. Missed Matt on the last 3 parts hope things are good with you!
I miss this part of Louis, we only saw the historian side of him on Opie and Anthony very briefly. To get 4 podcasts of him gushing about history and presidents is awesome. This rivals some of Conan O’Brien’s interviews with actual historians. Love comedians who are well-read.
Also great to see two "canceled" comedians talking about subjects unrelated to culture/Twitter BS. I've been so burned out on comedians/podcasts for that reason but seeing the GOATs branching out gives me hope
I agree. when his cancellation happened I did the deep dive and my sister was like...he's just a comedian....and I told her....him being funny was just a perk...this bead on life is second to none in my book. Hearing him talk about being a parent changed my life..and was funny. Hearing him talk about entitlement on a plane changed my life...and was funny. But the first part ends up being more important than the second part.
I love Louis' office. Reminds Me of an art deco control room in a power plant. Can't get enough of these history podcasts. I really want to hear Louis talk about trains.
This entire episode run with Louis has been unreal. Made me realize how much I miss Louie’s commentary on just about anything like in the o&a days. Louis has a very unique comedic voice and I think it’s shining through more than ever now.
Louis, Ant, Patrice, and Norton talking about anything is entertaining. It's crazy when you listen to them and think that's how it should be. Then you listen to other podcasts where there's no chemistry or feel formulaic and that makes me more grateful for Matt and Shane and O and A.

@chrisbarry9345 I can't stand Trump but that's just not accurate. He holds rallies and pressers and he speaks just fine. Biden would be in a home 8 years ago if he weren't a politician.
@@chrisbarry9345 He lost his sincerity and is replaying the hits. I have never voted for him, but before he was President, when basically nobody supported him, the only person he was trying to impress was himself. Now he has a good chunk of the country supporting him, and Trump has failed to realize that his fans mostly liked him for his sincerity (I'm not talking about all Americans who supported or voted for Trump, just his die-hard fans). His actual personality and policies were fairly irrelevant to his fans. They just wanted to see the underdog win. Trump thinks his fans like it when he acts overconfident, or when he makes fun of his opponents, so he tries to appeal to his fans by acting overconfident and making fun of his opponents. Initially, it seemed sincere when he behaved brashly, but at this point it's so performative.
Yeah. He's really thoughtful and insightful for sure. When he describes how the idiots on American Idol don't get the essence of Bridge and Folsom prison, I was like loving it
Amazing… when he mentions Shane’s dad. That was profound…. “And your gonna love him”… cause he’s obviously a good man. He raised Shane. We all need a glimpse into humanity
Incredible series, and Louis was right at the end - as someone who leans conservative the reason I love Shane is because he makes jokes about us from a place of love rather than with the usual vitriol and hate

Just blew through the whole series! Would be great to hear you guys doing a series on things like the lineage of British Royalty, Roman Emperors, African Rulers, hell even the books of the Bible. Learnin and laughin is the best combo!
I wish Louis brought up the time he was on the O&A show and Donald Rumsfeld was the guest. He asked Rumsfeld if he was a lizard person. I think you can still find it on UA-cam.
The whole time, he's trying to get Rumsfeld to just give him a straight answer. I could be wrong, but I don't believe he does. The joke of course was that someone in government can't answer even the most ridiculously simple question directly.
@@paulfroelich1024 lmao yeah you're right, it was a phoner interview from Rumsfeld but he kept asking like 'but Mr Rumsfeld, yes or no, are you a lizard person?' for a solid 10 minutes. Today has been the best podcast day for me in a long time. These history casts, Shane on Stuff Island, and Big Jay on Steveos cast? Blessed be the dawgs
This is the first podcast miniseries I’ve watched that I immediately wanted to rewatch. Insane amount of facts dropped by two comedy greats, and in such an entertaining way too
Wow. I binge watched this entire series. The last 15 minutes or so was extremely inspiring and makes me feel optimistic that people in this country can move past the terrible cycle we have been in. This whole series was hilarious, entertaining, informative and inspiring.
Part of what makes this so great is that its so refreshing to hear two people who are on seemingly different sides of the aisle have an interesting, respectful and funny conversation
In the future when people think of legendary history making podcasts from the past this will be one of them. I’ve watched and listened to a lot of podcasts but this one was special.
@@curtisboyce3849 yeah that's why no UA-camrs have patreons. Or put any of their content behind subscription services like curiosity and the like. After finishing part 4 I’ve been dragging the red dot from start to finish while watching the colors change to the setting sun. It’s quite cool! Thanks Louie!
This is the best podcast series i've heard in a long time. Louie's presidential knowledge is boundless. Also I'm impressed by Shane's breadth of knowledge in early American history. It's great to hear Louie's perspective of the more contemporary presidents that he has lived through with his funny anecdotes. His dream about Nixon killed me, suprised he never turned that into a bit! Gold!
These have been the most interesting thought provoking casts that we've seen in years and years. Louis CK is an American treasure and we're blessed to have him as one of the great story tellers of our generation. Can only hope we see/ hear more from him soon
1:42:35 I love that Louis understands the nuance of Johnny Cash songs that has been lost to time. Country songs get made fun of for their simple lyrics, but songs like those are deeply emotional. The break in Johnny’s voice in the original recording when he hits that line “well if they freed me from this prison, if that railroad train was mine, I bet I’d move it on a little further down the line” sends chills down my spine. The power and pain in his voice showed the deep empathy he had for those Folsom inmates.
I just couldn’t be happier for Shane to get to be sitting with his idol, and I’m simultaneously thrilled for Louis to be getting to know Shane and to be becoming friends with him. The god himself and MSSP coming together like this, it just blows my mind. Louis really needs a podcast, god would I love that. You see that he’s obviously built for it and I feel like we’re missing out every minute that he doesn’t have one.
This is without a doubt one of my favorite podcast series ever. I had no idea Louie was so well versed in American History. I would listen to more of these for sure.
Louie's off-hand recollection of events is unbelievable! I saw him way back in 2008 at the Berkeley Center in Boston where HBO taped his "Chewed Up" special. I was in tears, third row center and Louie looked at me with pure joy when he saw my tears 😭
This series is the most entertaining bit of podcast media I’ve ever encountered. A genuine fly on the wall experience watching two amazing comedians talk about something that clearly interests/matters to them. Shane definitely the more history oriented, fun anecdotal things about American history, while Louie is almost stream of consciousness talking about the People who have affected it. He comes off as having a political view based on how he talks about certain presidents but looking at what he’s saying through the lens of a man fascinated about the nuance and complexity of someones personality and experiences, you can see Louie’s devotion to trying to give the human experience a definition. The way he talks about these larger than life figures in a way that they are people and not political figures is incredibly interesting. Other comments have and will ascribe a political agenda, or some sort of sinister motive to his praise of certain presidents. But I see the deep personal insight of someone who is close to the raw concept of humanity and couldn’t give less of a shit about what the presidents did politically. Louie, and Shane to an extent, aren’t making any statements in this but purely enjoying a discussion of fascinating people. One of the greatest comedians of all time, and one who will definitely earn that as well, making wildly entertaining stuff.
Stumbled on this saga while looking for a 2 minute clip of Louis talking to Gillis about SNL, and it’s legitimately one of the greatest 6 hours of podcasting I’ve ever seen in my life. Louis and Shane, please keep making podcasts together. It’s legitimate gold.
I'm center left - but I have to say, Louis CK's insight about progressives at 1:43:47 is one of the most striking and thoughtful analyses I've heard - and I have a degree in political science.
Caught this on the back end of an amazing shrooms trip last week and I zoned in. Watched the whole series in awe. Now it has put me to sleep the last 5 nights.

when louie talked about shanes standup at the end, my god shane has made it and i hope louies words make him sleep tight at night. most people would kill to have louie compliment them like that, especially about the craft of comedy. love you shane your the next louie!
"You and me are probably disagreeing about everything but i cant get your sound anywhere else" gave me goosebumse for shane. Such an awesome compliment!
Naw. He's the first Shane.
That was a fucking stamp
It’s funny because Louis is such an influence on Shane’s comedy that he’s basically complementing himself lol
Shane is a comic genius and most of it is his body language and nuance tbh
Louie PLEASE start your own podcast or at least be a guest more frequently on other podcasts! Your way of describing anything is so stimulating and funny. It's the relief we all need
it would probably be great but honestly he doesn't need that shit
He jacks off on his guests
@@Derek_Keenan ❤❤❤
He doesn’t wanna be stimulating mfker
@@Derek_KeenanEven though he's a big lib, I'd listen to a US political history podcast by Louie. US politics is FULL of wild and compelling stories
I was just d*cking around and stumbled into part one, and here I am three parts later bummed it's over.
Please do more like this!
This was epically entertaining. Should be titled Nerds and Cowboys. I laughed, I learned, I'm loaded and I lost my virginity. Keep em coming
@Barry McCockiner No, I'm gay
@@MurphmanCometh lll
We're all gay.
Such wise words at the end. "He ain't that bad and I'm not that great." If everyone was as humbled as that the world would be a better place
100%
Hundred percent….that’s what makes some people interesting more interesting than others
That office and view is peak early 19th century vibes. I love the look of the place.
Louie is so smart. He really sees the big picture so clearly
Honestly man, get some beers, light a fire, turn this podcast on and have the best evening you'll ever have on your own.
Thank you men
I watched all four parts of this podcast in one day.
I imagine both of em must've nerded out for a while since they worked together for a couple of years.
Also great to see two "canceled" comedians talking about subjects unrelated to culture/Twitter BS. I've been so burned out on comedians/podcasts for that reason but seeing the GOATs branching out gives me hope
How validating for Shane to hear that one of the best comedians of all time tell you why you are great. He’s right, the SNL firing was a blessing!!
Just binged these in order and I am honestly blown away. Have Louie on again please.
Best one-week run for entertainment in quite a while
Listening to louis is so soothing honestly. Puts life into perspective.
I agree. when his cancellation happened I did the deep dive and my sister was like...he's just a comedian....and I told her....him being funny was just a perk...this bead on life is second to none in my book.
This four part series may be the best fucking podcast episodes created since The Ricky Gervais Show. Good shit, Shane. Much respect and thank you.
Not enough people talk about how incredible the Ricky Gervais Show was and also the XFM show they did before the podcast

1:03:51 Louis’s passionate take on not taking yourself seriously was deep as hell.
Except that he aimed it at Trump, who was literally roasted on comedy central.
@@imperius88sure but he totally changed as a person. This is not a Biden verse Trump thing but, we should be able to admit that both of them are cognitively challenged. Trump has totally changed who he is as a person to point where somewhat advanced dementia is the most likely cause
"he aint that bad and I aint that great" -- one of the most profound breakdowns I've ever heard, Amen
Louis isnt just a comic, he’s a brilliant thinker who happens to be a genius comedic mind.
louie* but yes you're absolutely correct buddy
@@nightboiii his name is literally spelled Louis
Yeah. He's really thoughtful and insightful for sure. When he describes how the idiots on American Idol don't get the essence of Bridge and Folsom prison, I was like loving it

His politics are pretty basic. Not much brilliance.
These president episodes are 5 months old and I keep coming back lol, too much info to unpack in just one viewing
Its still just as good ;)
Amazing… when he mentions Shane’s dad.
Louis telling Patrice where that word came from is one of best bits ever. That entire conversation was great
it's was a feeling.
Damn lads, this was downright inspiring at times. One of the best series of podcasts I've ever heard. I've been feeling super down about the political hellhole we've been living in, but just hearing Louis speak about this stuff with such passion is actually infectious.
His bit about needing to be "hard-ass" to be a good parent got to me. God bless you Louie, Shane, Matt, Gard-dawg and all the dawgs for putting this together. How can I be a pessimist when I have the best girl in the world to raise?
I love that Louis CK is able to admit when he is wrong about someone. Humility is a powerful piece of humanity.
And never mix rum with Twitter.
Shane hasn’t got there yet.
Like a father and a son he never had- wonderful to see them both talking about something they clearly love so much and having fun.
It's amazing.
More than one!
The whole time, he's trying to get Rumsfeld to just give him a straight answer. I could be wrong, but I don't believe he does. The joke of course was that someone in government can't answer even the most ridiculously simple question directly.
All time legendary bit
@@paulfroelich1024 lmao yeah you're right, it was a phoner interview from Rumsfeld but he kept asking like 'but Mr Rumsfeld, yes or no, are you a lizard person?' for a solid 10 minutes. Letting Donald just drone on and meander around the question, then capped it with another 10 after he hung-up on how fucking mental that just was. Solid clip
This 4 part series is very possibly my favorite podcast series I’ve ever listened to. Amazing stuff
Today has been the best podcast day for me in a long time. These history casts, Shane on Stuff Island, and Big Jay on Steveos cast? Blessed be the dawgs

I watched all 4 parts, and I’ve hung onto Every word of Louie. This is epic, thank you for this!
This is the first podcast miniseries I’ve watched that I immediately wanted to rewatch. Insane amount of facts dropped by two comedy greats, and in such an entertaining way too

Watching it get dark outside as the pod progresses made it feel like I was hanging in the room with them lol

no he isn't
Well his best encounter with a president was a dream.

Gold!
The Bush-John Hinkley JR skit is one of the funniest things I've ever seen
Man I just finished part three truly a blessed day
These have been the most interesting thought provoking casts that we've seen in years and years.
Like a really good book, I don't want it to end. I'm savoring this last one, listening in the background and rewinding, often, to watch certain bits.
Louis would be a great tour guide. If he takes his kids to museums, I bet they have a blast.
"you think if I kill Hinckley it will help me?"
Hilarious honesty from Louis
I loved this 4 parter. Shane and louis should start a podcast called THE OUTCASTS. Since they both have went through shit. Love ya guys! Great podcast
I see how louie used to make a new special every year. Dude can talk this long and be good at it. What a skill.
I’d love to see more of these history podcasts. Shane and CK know more about history than 95% of the people in the US.
That's not saying much. Ask people how money is created, bet you don't even know.
I could listen to this every single day. We need this as a continuing series more than anything ever.
I watched all 4 of these and they were beyond amazing, I hope you see this Shane. Thank You!

Absolutely brilliant, I gotta request part 5. Please.
the ending was so good. the perfect capstone to this 4 part series. Louis is the goat and I'm happy for Matt and Shane for getting this far
I'm center left - but I have to say, Louis CK's insight about progressives at 1:43:47 is one of the most striking and thoughtful analyses I've heard - and I have a degree in political science.
Louis CK is like a blend of my 3 favorite college professors (political science/ finance degrees)
Caught this on the back end of an amazing shrooms trip last week and I zoned in. Watched the whole series in awe. Now it has put me to sleep the last 5 nights.
