I like to think Louie's 2017 fall from grace was ironically one of the best things that could have happened to him as a person. He can 100% be himself now, even more so then he was back in the day, he doesn't have to hide probably his biggest unfortunate secret about himself anymore. Also, it's brought his comedy back down to Earth. The 1964 LBJ/Barry Goldwater election is worth learning about too. It was really the first time that "Democrat" and "Republican" were aligned so exactly with "liberal" and "conservative" philosophies the way they are now. Republicans like Eisenhower and even Nixon bought into the essential New Deal vision of government as providing for people's welfare in a more comprehensive way. Barry Goldwater was the first Republican with a more Libertarian philosophy of government as an oppressor that should be reduced in size to best protect people's freedoms. Meanwhile Johnson was the last Democrat to really add robust public programs to the social safety net, including Medicare and Medicaid. LBJ was also the first Democrat to consciously brand the Democratic party as a friend to black Americans. Literally every federal civil rights bill of the 20th century was passed with Lyndon Johnson as either Senate Majority Leader, President of the Senate, or President of the United States. This combined his legitimate empathy with cold pragmatism: he knew ending segregation was the right thing to do morally, and he knew it would win Democrats the black vote. Meanwhile, while Goldwater himself was no racist or segregationist, his libertarian philosophy was against the federal government having the right to impose its rules on the southern states. This opening led to a mass exodus of former Southern Democrats to the Republican Party. At the time, Goldwater was considered a total failure, because LBJ whipped him in a historic landslide in 1964. But the coalition he created, of "get the government out of my private enterprise" Republicans and "get the government out of my traditional culture" Republicans, is the same one that first Reagan and then Trump would use to become president in later eras.

I went to the comments hoping someone had called this out. That’s kind of a big mistake for Louis to make. McGovern did run in 68 but didn’t get nommed. He would probably have fared better than Humphrey if he had been nommed. Fear and Loathing 72 is such a great document.
Was searching comments to find somewhere to put this and this looks like the most appropriate palce to put another asterisk. At 34:36, (ua-cam.com/video/SbqvFf7qJeM/v-deo.htmlsi=lwnvhLxSYEjcByPS&t=2076) Louie confuses Jerry Rubin with Tom Hayden, whom were both "Yippies" and both of these men who spoke in Chicago protesting the Vietnam War, amongst other issues, were accused of crossing state lines to incite riots, conspiracy and became defendants in the infamous "Chicago 7" trial which accused Jerry Rubin and Tom Hayden as well as Abbie Hoffman, whom Louie mentioned when confusing Jerry Rubin and Tom Hayden (who was actually to Jane Fonda). Rubin became a wealthy capitalist and Hayden became a California legislator.
Im just going back and watching these again because it's so good. Nothing better than listening to people who love history talking about the people and what happened and why. And to top it off its Louie CK doing it.
I love this series. Love how it’s posted so “unprofessionally” that it’s effectively anti-algorithm. So much so that it’s actually difficult to find the next part in the succession. Such a great guy, just minus abusive power dynamics and sexual assault 🤷🏼♀️
@@jennmullins1063What you say is true. But, unusually for such stories, it seems that he wanted the girls to act like domnatrices and degrade him. As opposed to using his position to degrade women in order to feel powerful, which is the standard narrative.
His case appears to be the first case of a masochist abusing someone BECAUSE they wouldn't adopt the position of power.
Still abusive, absolutely, but in a way more pathetic than malicious
@@jennmullins1063Who did he assault?
This has been by far my favorite history based podcast I have ever heard. I listened from part 1 and when I finished the last episode I restarted the whole thing over. Bravo gentlemen
This is straight up the best podcasting of all time the world needs more louie
Louis story about his Nixon dream is one of the funniest things I've ever heard
Thanks for doing these with Louie! It's been a hilarious little series and you can tell he genuinely likes Shane.
I don't even think Louis is the kind of guy to respect podcasts as a format so I guess they're good.
I think it's cause Shane isn't a yes man. Mutual respect bros
Literally just finished part 2, BLESS THE DAWG IN CHIEF
Edit: the dawg in chief blessed us with another after this
Yea I just finished the Pt. 2 as well, glad this dropped today!
Same boat, on a rainy day at work landscaping. The dawgs have blessed me. Praise allah
This is just too entertaining to skip. I'm very grateful we have these guys to share silly yet true stories about history. Thank you Shane and Louis!
I'm not American and I don't care about their History,
but I could listen to Louis for hours and never get tired, whatever the conversation is about.
There is something about that Nixon dream that makes so much sense when I think of the brilliant ball of complexity that Louis is.
Shane tricked me into finally jumping on the patron for this episode lol these pods with Louis have been awesome.
i have a feeling LouisCK just paid cash to keep it off the patreon as he was against it at the end of #2... fax!!!
It’s so worth it man , best value for the money on Patreon !
@@Okillydokilly69
Especially if you're a grandfathered in $1 dirtbag 🙏☝️👑💪😎
I stopped my cumtown patreon to jump on the mssp paytch. Well worth it. War mode is sick too
@@ImJuice225 Good call. Cumtown stopped being great when Nick stopped giving a shit.
Also Adam is insufferable.
This is so fuckin great. Louis is so passionate and knowledgeable, you can tell her really cares about this topic.
These videos are unreasonably entertaining
I put these episodes on all the time for background noise. I really wish more history podcasts were like this and not overproduced yapping from a bunch of NY communists
These hour long sessions of Shane and Louis breaking down nearly all of American History is THE most fantastic thing my head could never imagine happening. Such a hell of a refreshing and brilliant project.
I could listen to Lou talk about literally anything for hours🔥🖤🔥 So much more than a comedian.
no. definitely just a comedian
Louis CK and Shane Gillis on a Podcast together bring that magic back that Opie and Anthony had in the 2000's! You guys MUST work together regularly the Lord demands it!
I don't even know how many times I have listened to this special. History trivia by two of my favorite comedians. It can't get any better.
This was both fascinating and touching. I just wanted to give Louie a hug at the end of it
Shamed him outta the Patreon. Blessed for a third time.
The fact that i am seeing a part four on the next up play list just made me lol so hard.
This series has been my favorite podcast series. Reminds me of the O and A days when louis would come on and drop knowledge
That Bobby Kennedy speech was in Indianapolis. Near Herron neighborhood on the near northeast side of town. Beautiful speech, god bless the Irish.
Louie must've been the best history teacher in a past life 😂
The 1964 LBJ/Barry Goldwater election is worth learning about too.
The democratic party has helped African Americans so much 🙄
This has made me realize how much I've missed Louie these past few years.
Check out his website where you can watch his last few specials. So funny
when Shane brought back when they asked sirhan sirhan he replied "IDK the kitchen door was open, i didn't even know that guy" 😂😂 i realized i didn't have a comic mind damn that was quick🤣
If Louie ever performs in your area and you attend, please purchase and wear a Nixon shirt to his set!!!!
5:09 made me LOL for real!
- Do you wanna put it back in?
- No, you go ahead and eat it.
this whole thing caught me off guard . didnt expect either of these dudes to know half this much about USA history
Hubert Humphrey was the nominee for the Democrats in 68 McGovern was the nominee in 72
Everyone should read fear and loathing on the campaign trail 72, Greatest book on American politics ever written
At 34:36,
(ua-cam.com/video/SbqvFf7qJeM/v-deo.htmlsi=lwnvhLxSYEjcByPS&t=2076)
Louie confuses Jerry Rubin with Tom Hayden, whom were both "Yippies" and both of these men who spoke in Chicago protesting the Vietnam War, amongst other issues, were accused of crossing state lines to incite riots, conspiracy and became defendants in the infamous "Chicago 7" trial which accused Jerry Rubin and Tom Hayden as well as Abbie Hoffman, whom Louie mentioned when confusing Jerry Rubin and Tom Hayden (who was actually to Jane Fonda).
Rubin became a wealthy capitalist and Hayden became a California legislator.
Literally the greatest podcast series right now. More Louie please. More more more more more.
Im just going back and watching these again because it's so good. Nothing better than listening to people who love history talking about the people and what happened and why. And to top it off its Louie CK doing it.
Louis a certified supa gremlin for this
Making these free and public was such a smart move. New listener here.
5:50 Holy fuck that Di Paolo joke fucking killed me
I love this series. Love how it’s posted so “unprofessionally” that it’s effectively anti-algorithm. So much so that it’s actually difficult to find the next part in the succession.
No BS “like and subscribe”. Love the casual tone. Love how they start talking and then decide together to make their conversation about presidents a series. Great work! Not sure if any of this was intentional, except your decision to leave this on UA-cam in its current state must have been intentional, so thank you!
I would not have paid for this, but I will listen to your ads.
🙌🏼 Praise the Lord! Louis won the argument! 🙌🏼
I still can't believe there's a whole other part. We're living in the guided age, gentlemen.
Guided by Voices
36:12 FIRED ME UP TOO.. Best part of the this series so far.
The dog was falling in love with the third guy.
That Louis story about his dream he had, where he met Nixon. I teared up when he did telling the story. So pure. It is an old man speaking, but its a child's dream.
No question, you're both great stand-up comedians, but this - surprisingly great. Thanks for posting part 3.
#Louie 🐐
I'm not surprised motherfuckers (Nate Diaz voice)
And part 4
@@father3dollarbill mind blown, listening to it now
That part about MLK got me so fired up , also re listened to “Why the moon?” And by god what a speech
Imagine being Bobby Kennedy (who although was a huge civil rights activist) having to get up and give that speech after MLK was assassinated to a crowd of black people.. Would’ve been a great President
52:49 This could be the greatest dream ever had by a person. What a guy, lol.
I literally cried laughing at work when he did the Nixon voice going “Louis!”
Shane's Guard Dog vibing with Louis' Guard Dog was a wholesome moment
This series is some of the most entertaining podcasting I’ve ever heard. Listened to all 4 straight through.
Dropping a surprise pod with the Mexican Dawg Father himself on Cinco de Mayo🇲🇽 …. Hail Paimon, we are not worthy of this blessing!!!!
The best things in life are the things you would never ask for, these podcasts are that.
That monkey brain joke made me giggle in the weirdest way while I'm in the waiting room.
Ask for Dilaudid. you’re welcome
We hope your bi-weekly rectal exam went well!
my all-time GOAT comedian in Louis C.K. with my favorite up-and-coming comedian in Shane Gillis. Dream come true.
Thank you Louie, you're the best!
Good Christ. This whole series is amazing. It's dominating my life.
It's my b'day and I'm sick to the core. Haven't done shit nor haven't gotten out of bed due to fever but boy, it makes me happy you guys have uploaded these amazing episodes. Thank you.

Thank you for this, boys. I’m absolutely loving these. And thank you, Louie, for telling Shane to put this on UA-cam. More like Shame Gillis. Pfffttt.
I love YT. Stopped this, listened to Jackie & LBJ, then returned for the rest of the show.
We don’t always remember that everyone was a baby at one time. So, when Louis was describing his dream I pictured an adult Louis C.K. running into Nixons arms.
I’ve listened to the podcast episodes twice and now I’m watching it because he’s just that great to me.
I could give a FUCK about the US presidents 😂 but I have watched the first one 3 times, the second twice and now the third one. Moral of the story. Louis CK fans will listen to him talk about anything 👌 great job dudes don’t let him escape
Same here bro. I always got tha dawgs on repeat but I especially enjoyed these with Louis CK.

That's crazy. No matter how good any show is, I need a couple uears to replay a pod.
