While Traveler's ability to tell the real Albedo and Susbedo apart seems to be emphasized in this event, it is worth noting that when Traveler and Paimon first met Susbedo outside of the cavern, there was no indication of Traveler feeling anything off about Susbedo. In fact, as players, we probably felt suspicious due to Susbedo's attitude, but Traveler showed no suspicion at all. That one moment stands out a lot and I feel like it could mean that Traveler isn't as good as telling Albedo and Susbedo apart as we think.

Nice point. It was just the noob whooperflower who the traveller was able to detect easily. And as I remember, traveller was just uneasy because he might felt a monster nearby making his move, as an adventurer's instincts.

That is true but also the traveler did not question Albedos authenticity at that point and probably did not pay too much attention. They started to get confused when they met him again on Dragonspine and Albedo did not seem to be upset. Another take is that the traveler did not speak to Susbedo in the first scene and also were not that close to him.
then again after the whopper flower incident he already can tell now the difference between the susbedo and the whopperbedo maybe hes just relaxed back then but now that they know theyre dealing with an imposter he can focus on whats real and whats fake.
I think at that point, traveler didn't realize the thief was susbedo which is why he was able to escape so easily. He just probably thought he was looking for a monster or a treasure hoarder or something..
You know, everyone seems to brush off the fact that the Festering Desire Sword (which is basically just a small chunk of Durin forged into a sword) has the ability to take AND GIVE life energy freely, to the point where it actually can revive the dead and even evolve them in some way.
I also think that the Albedo we met and offered us "festering desire" is not the same "main" Albedo in this story (during which we get a new sword perfect for Albedo...).

I noticed and I thought the quest didn't finish yet and was waiting for another part. I even wrote to the support about it, not that they answered. I was really furious when I realized that the quest isn't gonna continue and they wrote "to be continued" there just because and there wasn't even any way of telling how many parts there will be :/

With the Albedo event concluded, I believe that the continuation for this will be on Albedo's story quest part 2. If Joserf is still on the Dragonspine settlement after the event is over, this will all the more convince me that Albedo's story quest part 2 will continue the Susbedo story.
Hope this is true.. it's not fair that only zhingli that have 2nd story quest.

Well, this is the part two of his story quest. The 1.2 event was the first and, when this event will end, it will become the second story quest of albedo. So, we are waiting for a third part

@@SA-ii1bj Um, the fact that Zhongli has a story 2 opens the possibility that other characters might have a story 2. With how this event ended and Albedo's story quest ended, I do expect that his story 2 will come one day. When? I don't know. It might be after a few months. It might be after a year or so. I'm just gonna wait for it so I can finally sleep in peace (figuratively).
The conversation with Albedo at the end about the sunsettias was actually kind of sweet. It was a really nice bit of character development for him and I'm very fond the of the dynamic he has with the Traveler and the Mondstadt cast. Even though him joking (or warning) about his mark threw me off at first, I am firmly in the camp of there's no way emo 'humans throw out worthless rocks' susbedo would have the emotional intelligence to have a conversation about why Paimon was so invested in the sunsettias that was simultaneously an analogy about himself.
I like the theory that says that Albedo and Susbedo have reconciled and switch places as they please. Albedo shows empathy for the Susbedo saying he would do the same thing if he was the failed subject instead of Susbedo. Albedo is the Gardner who will grow many more Altbedos starting with Susbedo.

We’ve seen traveler purify dvalins tears as well as being able to use the festering desire without being corrupted and I feel like this ties into why traveler can tell the different albedos apart. Not because albedo is innately more human than his clones but rather he is physically different. Because traveler can both purify dvalins tears and wield the festering desire along with fact both of them relate to dragons, which we’ve seems have strange properties relating to life, I feel like this is because all life has some kind of energy or force to it, and traveler is more sensitive to this force than others, allowing the traveler to be able to sense albedos life force to differ him from his clones that may have a different amount or unpure amount of life force/energy in them. Which might also explain why he could purify dvalins tears as he might have the power to control or redirect this force. It also makes sense that traveler is more sensitive to this life energy than anyone else because they are most likely gods that have the power to control these things.

I had ending Albedo = SusAlbedo
BUT NOT that he replaced him, rather that after Albedo felt guilt at killing Whopperbedo, he went and did the smackdown with SusAlbedo but de-escalated and talked it out, offering to share his identity with his brother until he learned about humanity and built his own. (weird I know but so is Albedo)
One thing Albedo hypothesized is that the removal of SusAlbedos scar is subconscious.
I posit that the ending Albedo was SusAlbedo, who was there with Albedos blessing to practice some interaction, and accidentally let his scar slip away until it was noticed.
Oh and Joels dad = Joels dad, it just did not intersect or time with the Albedo story to be related at all.

This was what I guessed too, with the addition that Susbedo intentionally told the Traveller that he knows that the Traveller knows so they're all on the same page.

I agree with the "albedo erased mark on neck to check whether traveller would realise smt off or not" bcs albedo does have a playful side. Golden arpilego and his voice lines hint at it- plus klee would call him "weird grown up no.2" if he didn't lol
The ending is definitely Susbedo. Let me convince you! ~
Albedo says we can go down to be with Eula and Amber because he's got some experimenting to do up in his lab. So we go to Mondstadt and for some reason... Albedo.. is there? Even though he just told us he had work to do in the mountains. He had just wondered aloud about how arrogant it is to create, now the albedo in front of us is implying that he's perfectly ok with gardening/creating life. I think this is a big distinction because their personalities are very different. Susbedo sees himself as a creator. He is! He's bitter that he was the discarded one. If a gardener discarded him, then he'll become his own gardener! Possibly, Susbedo's drive to create was also the reason he was discarded. This conversation also implies that Susbedo was listening in on Albedo's conversation with us up in the mountain, that he's watching and listening which is creepy and it even alarms the traveler when he brings up gardening.
Another distinction is how inviting he is for the traveler and Paimon to stay on the mountain, to plant their roots there literally and metaphorically when the real Albedo was always careful to not impose. Several times in this event and in the past, Albedo pays us the respect of asking if we're available to help or saying things like "I'm sure you have other things to be doing." Albedo warns us about how dangerous the mountain is but Susbedo has us visualizing a long-term plan to stay there. Susbedo has no problem creating more life with Durin's corruption; trees, fruit, and possibly corrupting Paimon and the Traveler.
Albedo told us that his mark was from his master and how important flaws are to life. I think SusBedo in Mondstadt took off his star to signal to the traveler *only* that he was Susbedo. He put the star back on to keep appearances but (importantly!) has no trouble taking away this flawed mark. I think Susbedo wanted to have the last word with us. Talking to us and seeing if he can really deceive us or at least if we are willing to listen to him.
Just because he's not Albedo doesn't mean that he's not as intelligent. It just means he has a different perspective on life and creation.
The conversations between the real albedo up in the mountain and the Susbedo down in Mondstadt were for us to see their stark differences in philosophies and attitudes.
I never said he wasn't intelligent, I said there were things he didn't understand. I think you make a good case, but I'll stick with my resolution that Susbedo, for now, has been neutralized.
@Alice Walls This! I totally agree -- there was a noticeable change of viewpoint and demeanor between the Albedo of the lab versus the "Albedo" in the final scene. The latter "Albedo" seemed much more "pushy" or insistive than the real one would be, almost as if trying to lure Traveler to the very same place the real Albedo warned about. There definitely was something off about the latter "Albedo."
Furthermore, I find it hard to believe that the real Albedo would be able to hide/show his birthmark at will -- especially since it was not something he created, but Rhinedottir did. On the other hand, I can imagine Susbedo being able to manipulate it, since for him, it was never there to begin with, and so adding/removing a mockup wouldn't be an issue. Heck, Susbedo even morphed his own face into that of the real Albedo, so modifying features like birthmarks would not be something lying outside the scope of his abilities.
I guess we'll have to find out the real answer to this cliffhanger the next time an Albedo event/story quest rolls around :D

You know what? I agree with your theory. Even if Albedo IS a smug person, why would he go all his way to erase his own mark? And Albedo the First DID have a mark, he just chose to erase it. But why would Albedo prank traveller just like that? It sounds low-key sus, and if you ask me, that doesn't sound like what Albedo would do at all. I thought Albedo the First wouldn't have a mark, but he chose to erase it because he felt that was a mark of imperfection.
And that part about how he wanted traveller and Paimon on the mountain sounds low-key sus too. Perhaps Susbedo knows something, but we don't know, because right before that, Albedo could have killed susbedo and decided to prank us... We need a second part to this story but Hoyo ain't giving us crumbs 😭

Tbh, i think the 1.2 event was thr real Albedo talking to us, at least at this scene.
Well, consider that Albedo only felt comfy to tell traveler about his origins due the incidents that happened during this 2.3 event quest. I dont think he would tell us his true story if those incidents didnt happen.
So back in the 1.2 event, Albedo was already aware of his other brothers and what they could do to replace the original Albedo. So he just told us that something can happen in the future with either original albedo or susbedos. But he certainly wasnt sure if Traveler could sense the impostors, which why he didnt go further.
Besides those new things we discovered about Albedo's story, theres stilll a LOT of mistery behind his back.

daaaamn, the connection of paimons fruit problem and albedo's story went totaly above my head... the gardener being able to tell the rose's apart and albedo becomeing the gardener at the end (for paimons sunsettias) .... What I found sus was the Joel situation, sus Albedo was bringing him to a cliff, Joel‘s father was saved by Pallad near a cliff, did I read it wrong or is it just me that Sus Albedo was bringing Joel to his father… well I can‘t really remember now as I tried speed reading/skipping Pallads dialogue. Must be my imagination.

The turnaround Albedo shows between his last conversation on Dragonspine and when you meet him in Mondstadt is strange. On Dragonspine, he's rather negative about the whole gardener metaphor, but he's super positive about it in Mondstadt. Either something changed his perspective on it or he himself changed. I agree that events won't suddenly have lasting consequences, so both are the real Albedo, so we have to know why his opinion changed.
Early on, we heard about Susbedo taking Joel somewhere. That's really weird and suggests to me that Susbedo found Joserf (or Joserf's body). Albedo's line of being content when one's pockets are filled I see as clearly being about Joserf and his familial connections, indicating that something strange happened there. Joserf is either Susbedo in some form (the foxes could maybe be explained by the Traveler mentioning them first in the conversation) or that Joserf was artificially revived/remade by Albedo (if remade, the memories could come from the original and, in this scenario, dead Joserf). His negativity about the gardener story on Dragonspine was because he's nervous about the consequences of bringing back/creating a human like this and, seeing that it all worked out, has a more positive perspective at the end of it all.
Just want to say I agree with you to some extent.
And also I did find it weird that Susbedo/WhooperBedo was going to take him somewhere

I will say, there’s no better feeling than watching the cut scenes right before Whopperbedo attacks everyone and noticing the lack of the neck-star on his character model. It’s like solving a mystery novel before the detective tells everyone the answer, but this time the entire mystery consists of solving a spot-the-difference puzzle
I just wonder how the real Albedo would even physically be able to make his scar disappear. I do believe the real one still exists but I’m skeptical on if it was actually him at the end. I guess I do have trust issues now. Thanks Mihoyo! Lol
Since he's skilled at painting, he could possibly make an oil paint that's his exact skin tone and paint over the mark

i mean he is an alchemist, i feel like i remember characters saying that he’s dangerous because of his abilities. it’s probably no trouble at all to remove and replace a simple scar from his body, especially since he isn’t fully human.
i’m 90% sure that that was the real albedo. he’s a scientist and he was already experimenting with traveler, and this prank was really a test in disguise. Had it been fakebedo, traveler would have noticed the change in his personality/aura or whatever. i don’t think fakebedo would have been able to replicate albedo’s personality perfectly that quickly to fool traveler. and even if he had been able to, it would make no sense for fakebedo to reveal himself to traveler as what would appear to be a ‘gotcha’ thing since his goal is to fit in. it wouldnt even tie into his malicious nature, it would only be self-sabotage. unless mihoyo decides to do something really weird and out of place, i think it’s safe to say that that was our albedo :)

If the fake Albedo is smart enough to make the fell whopper flower then I dont think they would make the mistake of forgetting to have the star on their neck when the Traveler is around.
So yeah that's definitely the real Albedo at the end. He did live with someone who woke up one day and decided to yeet hilichurls at Celestia, so some of that mischief might have rubbed off on him 🤣

What if there gonna be a story where someone/something want to track the real albedo and kill him, but the susbadeo save the real albedo by disguising as the real one(as he is).
While the susbadeo is dying they kill the enemy and susbadeo start to talk to us( travel and albedo) and thank us for everything we done to him.
I think that would be a very good way of killing a character and gonna make a very impactful moment in the game.
If SusBedo has been present in Dragonspine all this time I wonder how it would feel playing through the furst Dragonspine quest in 1.2 knowing that such an interesting life force us lurking under the surface 👀

What if Albedo is actually the "failed" Primordial Human Project and Susbedo is Rhinedottir's succesful product. However, some time later Susbedo has to be discarded for unknown reason. So, she had to use the previous model, Albedo, to continue her project. But after giving Albedo "life", she might have grown to be fond of a normal human life, so she granted such freedom to Albedo, abandoning her goal of what happened during the Cataclysm (or at least, she didn't want Albedo to carry the burdens of Khaenriah). That's why Albedo has no memories about the event of Cataclysm, not because he didn't know, but was made to not know about it.
However, Susbedo still has the memories & mission to be accomplished. So when he learnt about his other existence (Albedo), he questioned himself; "What did Rhinedottir really want 500 years ago? Is it her goal of Cataclysm, or her wish for a happy life".
This "Primordial Human Project" might be somehow related to the creation of Scaramouche and the secrets hidden within the secrets of Raiden Shogun's true goal.
I still have so many questions after paying close attention so dragonspine is hot bed of weird things can happen
I think the revealation that Joel's father survived is a way to show Bennett that his bad luck can turn into good luck (aka a happy conclusions from all bennett's misfortunes in the event). I do agree Joel's father not remembering anything til Jeol called him dad is not really sus, he did suffer head trauma.
The Albedo in Mondstadt though, I'm still 50/50 about him being real Albedo....

There isn't anything sus about second albedo. He never actually hurts anyone, like it's all a test. I think they're probably both more similar than different. My theory is that albedo one and two will share the one life in secret so they can accomplish more together.
In that final scene, where Joel's dad returns, I actually thought the reckless palad could be susbedo. That could just be because he is pretty suss all on his own though 🤣
Albedo acting more expressive and pranking us is in the end is just him refining his emotions like his second ascension voice line
See my thoughts was it wasn't subject two altering his own memories or acting so he can be Joel's dad, it was *Albedo* alerted his memories as an alternate to killing him. Which has it's own moral questions and I feel horrible for the mom! But yeah.
But I am very confident that was Albedo at the end who was testing Traveller.
Something that's been on my mind a while post event and grabbing Albedo for myself is his voice line about Sucrose. Albedo reveals his age to be probably like 400-ish years old (give or take a few decades), and in that voice line with Sucrose, he say's she's about the same age as him. So what I mean to say is, 'is Sucrose also a couple of centuries old??' Miko's got the same ears and she's like 500 so I guess it's not unthinkable, but it does make me wonder.
that is a mistranslation, in the original hes talking that they are both colleges, in the same field and work place. This happen alot in the translation because they take liberties to adapt it to something the NA user would feel more fitting, also, translator lack a whole deal of insight of a character backstory when doing them, so translators take some freedom and change it according to what they believe is more fitting for the language, rather than the original nuance behing it.
I believe that albedo is a celestial like traveler. If you look at travelers character you can see their “vision” is a star shape, And the star on albedos neck is the exact shape not to mention paimon is most likely a celestial as well. And she has a star hair clip.
Finally someone that came to the same conclusions as me!
Also for that cave, it wouldn't be the first time we go into a crack in a mountain and end up in a domain or a f-king massive space with it's own sky, (I'm talking Childe story quest, Toy Factory)
I'm leaning towards Joserf getting affected by Durin's blood. If he was fatally wounded no way he could have survived that long. Also, if we take the imposter option, it would mean that somehow Susbedo was already operating a year ago to get an idea how Joserf looks like. Unless of course, Joel gave him an accurate picture.
Anyway, thanks for the golden archipelago clip, it wiped my suspicions of the real Albedo. This means that the Real Albedo does breakout out of character from time to time and display his playfullness ^^
This is a pretty solid take! It’s fairly similar to another person’s take that I found on Reddit except they believed that susbedo was the one we met at the end of the quest, so now with both of these arguments, I don’t really know what to believe T-T they’re both so convincing.

This is a great explanation of what might've happened during this event. I also think that this is like a gateway to a much bigger events/revelations maybe involving Rhinedottir. Mihoyo is finally going over their ingame textbooks and starting to introduce them to the story. However, I hope the lore actually broadens more when we all get to see Enkanomiya. And Mihoyo, PLEASE, give us some few crumbs about the god of time in Mondstadt since we went back home there. Lol.

Before finishing the video, I want to believe that the real Albedo, and the second one(Alfredo), came to an understanding that alfredo can live his life as Joel's father. That way he can get to experience the joy of being loved and albedo gets to keep his brother alive.
That, and I believe the one we met back in mondstadt is alfredo, cuz we know him to be able to alter his appearance. Plus, when albedo was talking, he did not like the idea of being called creator (Gardener). But the one in mondstadt said he wouldn't mind being a Gardener (Creator).

I just think it makes so much sense if Joel's dad is susbedo, timing or not. It neatly fits the garden analogy in the last conversation. Susbedo didn't need to be albedo, it just yearned for the Human connections. If it wasn't dealt with it would always come after not just albedo, but the traveler and anyone else who could tell them apart. Albedo needed a permanent solution but he also pitied susbedo. They used alchemy to reshape susbedo and take Joel's dad's identity.
I actually think that there is a possibility that this event will turn into the albedo story quest part two. Since after the 1.2 event, for all the new players, the got the 1.2 event, but edited so that they get no sword and fight no boss
If Joserf is the true Joserf, then why did the story highlight that it was Benny's luck brought Joserf to Joel? Would it therefore not imply that on some level this family reunion was actually misfortune? I agree that it's not actually that implausible that Joserf might have survived - but the entire framing does imply that this is a bittersweet situation, giving Joel's father back, but he might have been changed by Durin's influence or not be wholly himself (Whopperbedo or Susbedo?).
Of course, it can be argued that Benny's just ran out of bad luck that day. But Benny's "good" days are just days where nothing terrible happens and he can just exist without going through a compilation of "Top 10 Worst Things That Could Have Happened Today". Therefore for Benny to suddenly allow such incredible lucky thing to happen... is imo setup by the narrative as almost impossible.
There was an ongoing sub-plot of characters emphasizing that certain types of miracles can only come from extreme misfortune. I think it's this.

My take on this was simple- since it's an *event* quest, it should *always* go back to the status quo. I think it's fairly logical that it should for future new players and/ players who didn't participate in the event (given it's not permanent). And the only difference is, of course, for those who *did* participate in the event, they'll have the extra knowledge based on whatever lore or details the event quest has. And I think it's this very reason that this quest was locked behind an event instead of permanent.
Take, for example, unreconciled stars. It did not give us permanent changes. The constellation that fell was an NPC, so no changes to the playable characters that we know of personality-wise or their status whether dead or alive, nationality or identity. But it *did* give us extra knowledge that might tell us Teyvat's world structure. Or Golden Archipelago. They all went back to Mondstadt in the end, and the island simply became a good vacation/memory. Labyrinth Warrior quest. Sure, it placed Xinyan and Childe in Inazuma but that was temporary. Xinyan is going back to Liyue after, and Childe is a Harbinger so it's no surprise whether he's in Liyue, Inazuma or called back to Snezhnaya.
So, with that idea in mind, it's safe to say that the Albedo we have now (ie after the quest) is *still* the original Albedo. But Joserf- he's an entirely new issue altogether, given the status quo (ie before this event) was that Joel is *still* waiting for his father and is still *presumed* missing. Pallad *did* find him in a den of monsters, so if anything, I still find him sus. And the only sus one for me. Unless someone does Joel's quest after the event and kindly share info of new dialogue lines, I'll be keeping an eye on that "Joserf." lmao
[Edit] lol I commented first before watching the whole thing. Yeah, it's kinda the same as what was said in the end, except that I still find Joserf sus given this reasoning.
There is a little hole in the wall of the hole, similar to those of hidden cave dungeons you'll come across in story quests like the ruin guard factory in Childe's story quest, so...

Thank you for coherently putting the evidence out. I am still not convinced about everything being Ok after the event but I am leaning into that explanation.
Just to add a bit of information about Joel's father fate, I remember that after completing the world quest 'Lost in the snow', where we learn about what happened to him, you can actually go to the end of the cavern where he took a 'leap of faith'. It is a cliff at the side of Dragonspine.
If you jump from the cliff and go to the bottom (imitating what Joel's father may have done) , you will actually find some bags covered in snow, and a copy of 'the Boar princess'. This is the book that he read to Joel and was mentioned during the quest.
Of course, we didnt find anybody near these remains. That happened when 1.2 came.
After seeing that I was almost convinced that he was dead. The fall was quite high and he was out of supplies. But maybe, by checking the location around where 'the boar princess' is found, we could get another clue.

When the event ended, for a brief moment I was suspicious, but then that feel almost immediately went away when we realized he was most likely just pulling a prank on us. I literally yelled “you jerk” at that moment, but he’s still such a lovable guy that I didn’t hold a grudge against him.

I always thought that Albedo's constellation looked oddly like a lizard fetus or even a human one at that, that was inside what seemed a flask. Now it makes more sense.

3:06 this might be the entrance to an underground domain like what we got when doing We Will be Reunited or the game exaggerating the size of a space. But domain sounds more interesting to me so that's my headcanon.
The reason I think Joserf is at least a copy of the original Joserf is because of the heavy emphasis on creation, and Albedo/Susbedo talking about sunsettias and how you shouldn't really be attached to a specific one because you can have many. It would tie into Susbedo trying to get Joel to at least see the body or clone of his father.
Omg, your brain is so big and sexy. It's fascinating to hear your theories, it gave a lot of insight on the event and even added my overall satisfaction of it. The story was already great, but the prospect that it may only be the start excites me, and I didn't think about it that way before. Makes me happy that Mihoyo can still write great stories, no matter the fiasco that Inazuma was. 2 years later i happened to watch a gameplay of someone of this event and even tho i did it myself at that time and i remained 99% certain of the same conclusion as you i still think it's funny how i only now realised the fact that hoyo just took the "don't judge the book by it's cover" to another level with this event. I'm sure most of us had our hunches trough the event (i mean, ofc, if we cared about it) about the fact that something was off but what actually blurred the train of thought was, in the essence, just the mark on the neck, once the mark disappears, our troubles appear, which it's just funny cuz we start paying more attention to that more than anything and stop using the same thought process as previously. You can really say that we get lead astray by the "cover" here
