I saved some money on my laptop by going with a used one on Amazon. Right around 300USD for a Ryzen 5 5500u. Shipped with 8GB RAm and a 256GB NVMe, but those are upgradeable it's now at 32gb RAM and 1TB nvme, pretty nice for what's really a secondary system and honestly overkill for its primary use case, which is homework on the rare occasions I'm not home. But the price was right, at the time it was about 200 off the price of a new one of this model.
I'd suggest Amazon Warehouse if possible, that's Amazon themselves so you get some protections in case it ends up DOA or in unusable condition short of being completely dead.
Im not going to lie I have a strong inclination that the random Ryzen is one of them "embedded APU SOC" mostly used for commercial equipment. Minus the GPIO.
those gateway "laptops" was actually named as "netbooks" back then. Almost like the first versions of Chromebooks. Don't bash those gateways that hard. Thats why no sane person would buy a cheap or off-brand computer for any reason simply because its a waste. With off-brand computers you are highly possible to get scammed. As for cheap laptops, they tend to be very low quality to the point where they can break from a sneeze. Also cheap laptops are very slow and annoying as hell. In summary just save your money until you can get a brand (legit) laptop for 1000-2000$ so you don't have to deal with any BS. This is regardless of whether you are a gamer or just an old granny.

i think you've missed the point of these laptops. they are travel/disposable devices. on overseas trips over the years I've bought many of them just to get the job done then give them away to my pre-teen family or even friends. you dont need much processing power for word processing and conference calls. i rather enter a foreign country and lose a $200 laptop than my main device. I prefer connecting those devices to unknown networks knowing the data there is temp

Man I didn’t know Gateway was still making computers. Brings me back to the days of being at circuit city and seeing the likes of compaq and Acer computers on display.
They aren't. Their just a brand being passed around, like a cheap hooker.
I had to do sound engineering for my marching band on a gateway laptop the glare was horrendous and the cow wasn't it lmao
The way the iGPUs work with the memory is using about 2GB of memory, I have an APU in my system and when I was using the integrated video, it did take the 2GB, but now that I have a video card, there is no decreased memory.
So glad I watched this exposé and had the sense to not buy anything this small or unknown again. Kudos!
04:10 is comedy gold
wait, what would happen if you bought all the "we give you $30 gift card" laptops and then sent them back for free? do that 15 times and you can buy a free laptop then 😆
The gateway laptop, appears to have had a Wal-mart VizPick Label on it, Likely a Reseller that got them on clearance for cheap cheap
5:11
Can we have a $30 gift card to give you? Wtf are you saying Austin? Good lord…
i thought gateway went out of business over 20 years ago "Defunct October 2007; 16 years ago
Fate Acquired by Acer Inc.; brand revived in 2020"
I would look in the bios and see if some of the cores are disabled for some reason.
the warranty void sticker at 14:25 is *completely decoration (in the united states at least)* because of some ruling quite some time ago
I hate that I recognized a vizpick label on the gateway laptop
I Love Austin Evans Videos 💙
We the people want you to show us a GOOD cheep laptop pc.Please! 😢
$299.99- please.
Gateway is a name brand and was one of the largest pc manufacture in the 90's i wouldnt call them a name brand
the one with the intel sticker on amd laptop, had me LAUGHING!
Austin and Friends, your channel is one of the best for the variety of the content.
I'd suggest Amazon Warehouse if possible, that's Amazon themselves so you get some protections in case it ends up DOA or in unusable condition short of being completely dead.
you know it might be preconfigured in msconfig to limit the max cpu cores
Im not going to lie I have a strong inclination that the random Ryzen is one of them "embedded APU SOC" mostly used for commercial equipment. Minus the GPIO.
ok "tylko jedno w głowie mam ***** 5g" Gold XD
Great review😁
those gateway "laptops" was actually named as "netbooks" back then. Almost like the first versions of Chromebooks. Don't bash those gateways that hard. I bet if u put them for a long term use, the gateway can survive far longer that the others. My old gateway survived 5 yrs and 3 continental flights.
5:06 THE MONSTERS INC EMPLOYEE IS SO ACCURATE
My wife just passed by and said “is that Logic” when she saw Austin. I just need someone else to know about this
Thats why no sane person would buy a cheap or off-brand computer for any reason simply because its a waste.
17:51 *sad cow noises
Bring back sea shanty2
Friend of mine many years ago bought basically a Chinese android laptop, note I didn’t say Chromebook… was a very odd thing esp in where they cut corners
i think you've missed the point of these laptops. they are travel/disposable devices. on overseas trips over the years I've bought many of them just to get the job done then give them away to my pre-teen family or even friends. you dont need much processing power for word processing and conference calls. i rather enter a foreign country and lose a $200 laptop than my main device. I prefer connecting those devices to unknown networks knowing the data there is temp
The fact that the second laptop had a whats app or whatever QR code for the "lifetime warranty" is pretty shady.
Next you should make a video about the mini PC's!
Spelling errors on the package are always a good sign.😂
The saddest part of this video to me is that these can run Windows 11, but a Ryzen 1800x can't 🤣
Thanks Microsoft. Meanwhile playing almost every game in Windows 10 my CPU doesn't go over 20% usage with Discord and UA-cam usually across 3 monitors 🤣🤣🤣🤣
You know it takes 5 minutes or less to bypass the Windows 11 requirements and upgrade? You're not actually limited to Windows 10.
It's because of those TPM 2.0 support requirement, which are not making much sense unless you're using advanced biometrics and/or disk encryption
classic microsoft
@@lbsiukSure, but should not have to work around arbitrary limitations right.
windows 11 is just windows 10 with a new taskbare more ads and bloatware and rounded edges when apps are not fullscreen so it doesn't really matter
I have one of those Gateway convertibles, it's not great performance wise but if you are just using it to stream or watch youtube videos it's a great machine. Plus the battery lasts forever from my experience. It's better for travelling than my Lenovo.
to hear a song about cocaine in my mothertounge, in one of your videos - priceless
11:33
“Oh no! No! No!” 🤣
First ever laptop my parents bought me was a Gateway and I loved it
7:40 even the editor knew💀
the cow theme is a gateway thing
