In this video I show you how to find NOAA Weather and Emergency Frequencies, how to add those NOAA channels/frequencies into your UV-5R, and save them, and how to scan through them - all with no cable/no computer needed - right from the keypad. The NOAA frequencies and channels are not just for the weather! The federal and local government also use these emergency channels after major SHTF events such as hurricanes, tornadoes and even earthquakes. In a major SHFT event, the NOAA emergency channels can be essential.

Us fat guys always get screwed.... Need a 5XL. Actually went to order it. Guess I need to put the cheesesteak down............................😂😂
"Just ask any HAM radio operator" 🤣🤣🤣
The GOD of all radios, the Baofeng UV-5r
well kinda, they have a baby (bf888) and a big brother (AR152) love then all
Am I the only guy repeatedly pausing his videos rolling frame by frame to catch the messages like a pre teen boy trying to catch a nip slip? I don't even have a radio and I can't stop watching his videos!
No, had to pause it repeatedly .... Still don't get it. I 'think' he is hitting the Menu button to delete a channel but not certain ...
Ordered and received the KG-935G. Awesome battery, build, and display. Going to order the Wouxun 2 & 440 ham verson of the radio. Thanks for keeping us up to date on the good stuff.
Good timing of this one. All the SHTF channels, preppers, etc have been off the hook recently
Thanks for the inspiration for this! I always wanted a scanner to keep in my vehicle, but didn't want to leave an expensive radio in the truck. Setting up the UV-5R as a scanner was just what I needed!
Calm in your entry, collected in your delivery, concise in your information. I need a NotA patch for my rig!
Got my UV5R programed up and works great...with the larger battery it runs on scan for 3 full 24/7 days/night...all while on scan with all the freqs running.. I made a set up that will plug in to my Walker head set...I can sit in silence while hearing nature around me "and" listen to "ALL" the bands. Unlocked, you cannot beat it ...rock on
Very timely video. I just received my Uv-5R yesterday and wanted to start setting channels for scanning. Thank you. Always great videos. -Your biggest fan.
Not only am I Randy’s favorite viewer, but he said I was a cool-kid too, no matter what that metal marine said about me in another video comment section. Thanks Randy!
I just got this radio a few days ago. Your videos are very helpful and entertaining. These videos have inspired me to get my Amrteur radio liscence reactivated.
Thank you! Very clear explanation. No boredom seizures. Nice job.
Thanks so much for your videos. They’re super informative and definitely not boring. I have a playlist of several of your videos that I will binge as I learn to use my UV-5R.
Your teaching skills and presentation skills are top notch.
I don’t know why… I dig this guy and his info. Very informative and different from all the other BS on UA-cam.
I might get a promotion at my job just from learning from all your UA-cam videos. Thank you very much!!
Once again you have come to the rescue of this old Jarhead . I have several channels that I have programmed into my radios for LISTENING only/ and information gathering [one can never have enough local information when the crud hits the fan]
Randy really explains the programming very well. Baofang should hire YOU my favorite Reviewer, to write there manuals!
I've seen his videos under many baofengs on Amazon lol
Thank You for the simple things that need to be shown to us simple minded new users!
Thanks Randy. I just loaded two NOAA channels on my two radios. Got my Ham and GMSR last month. Now working on how to use them.
Day 1 - (yes I am that new)
Today I learned how to save frequencies.
And that VFO stands for......Something.
Your videos are helpfull to me. Thank you for the time you put into them.
Just received my Baofeng UV-5R a few days ago. Been watching your videos and have learned a lot. I guess since I have a newer version the radio allowed me to delete channel 0 and 127 so when I scan I only show the few I have ;programmed. Thanks for you videos.
"I'm a cool kid" - thank you, Randy, for the explanation of this stuff! Love your channel! Best to you!
What Thomas said. 👍
I have just subscribed to your channel after looking for NOAA info from UA-cam. I caught the comment about the FCC/NOAA information...I paused the video to read the small print. I think you and I will be friends!
Thanks for posting videos like this. Small learning sessions.
"I'm a cool kid"
I really appreciate your helpful videos and lovely humor. thank you very much.
I am a cool guy and I found your channel, and videos very helpful to help operate my Boof-Wang radios. Thank you for all of them. Have a great day!
Great video! Very useful and I like the way you explained it, was able to follow along easily.
Hi love ur channel I come from Scotland I use baofeng for first time. Thank you for ur help
I've grown to love that Tacticool larger battery. The radio seems to fit my large paws better, and even if I'm using the remote mic, it won't flatten the battery over 8hrs. Maybe my imagination, but the clarity of tx/rx seems better.
Sir, Thank you for your time, your videos, and most importantly your sense of humor. In your video which I so much enjoyed, you could not change the channel on the 0 and 127. Since I just got my radio and learning to use it, I thought I would try it. Yes, I was able to change the 0 to the NOAH Channel and the 127 to the 2nd NOAH channel... Just to let you know, it is possible to change them, however, you have to input a new channel in one of the slots for it to work.
Great videos and great content... Keep it up.
Because I wondered myself for a while what it stood for, I dug a little and found this. VFO = Variable Frequency Operation mode (Frequency Mode) and MR = Memory mode (Channel Mode). However, who cares lol...
Hey, Randy, great tutorial, thanks for your time.
Sep 2021: ok I'm sold - got the cheapest model yesterday. Thanks for all the good info.
BTW, best video on this. Simple, straighforward, easy to follow and entertaining.
A variable frequency oscillator (VFO) in electronics is an oscillator whose frequency can be tuned (i.e., varied) over some range. It is a necessary component in any tunable radio transmitter or receiver that works by the superheterodyne principle, and controls the frequency to which the apparatus is tuned.
so like 97.7 or 97.8 FM?
nerd
Dude… your awesome. Subscribed. Wish I knew someone like you to learn from!!!
I'm a cool kid. I love your stoic presentation. Hilarious and informative. Never change.
Gosh, I got to the point (after only knowing about this channel since a week or so) that I click like even before a single word has been said... sad...HAM... 🙂 Awesome content! Keep up the good work!
Thank you for all of your videos! I am new to the game and you are extremely helpful.
One question, in channel mode can you save a channel in the lower B spot? I apologize for my ignorance!
Thanks for the info. You should do something like this for the KG-1000G. I can figure out how to save new channels or scan frequencies.
VFO Stands for Variable Freque...er...nevermind, I read your shirt.
Thanks for another quality video and stuff.
HAHAHA I’m a cool kid! With ADD & OCD & a HAM Radio license. YOU 👈 are my favorite UA-cam personality.
I just bought a UV-5R and luckily got one of those "good" ones.
I’m a cool kid. And thank you for teaching me how to program my Baofeng. 🙏🏻
thanks so much for your videos this helped me so much!
Super helpful, thanks! Going to be camping in 162.450 next week :)
Evening, NotaRubicon...
Since I'm old now, and no longer follow directions very well, I'm hoping that once I can figure out how to program my new-still-in-the-box-on-my-dining-room-table UV5R - gen3 with the CHIRT software, these NOAA channels will be included? Sure hope so, anyway.
Yeah, I went ahead and purchased a pair of these keen little transceivers along with the upgraded Nagoya antennas, the larger 3800 milliamp batteries, and the necessary to transfer data cable.
It's exciting stuff, and this tutorial being the exception...I've so far enjoyed your channel very much.
Thank you, and take care...
Appreciate the tips and humor!
I love how you don't waste our time. 😁
Some how I deleted channel 0 idk. But I'm watching your vids to get more info just purchased 2 for home use.love your videos brother. Awesome channel ans subscribed. Thanks
@NotaRubicon Productions, *You are the most informative "Ham-Guy" (smart-a$$) on youtube! 🤣
On a personal note... After watching your preferred local repeater frequencies, your Jeep video @ Cougar Buttes in Lucerne Valley, and now your local NOAA stations, I suspect we could be neighbors or at least from the same area? Very cool 😎 ~Roy~ "Critter Ranch", Apple Valley (Highlands), CA.
Another great and very valuable video. Thanks for sharing. Btw: I like your sick sense of humor and your attitude. Hilarious!
I just receive my beautifull UV5R im very excited :)
Great stuff!
Thanks for the video, sir!
Damn it Randy..... They made that harder than it should be..... But it worked Thanks again...
Thanks . . . for . . . teaching . . . us . . . beginners . . . how . . . to . . . program . . . the . . . Emergency . . . Weather . . . Information . . . frequencies . . . as . . . channels . . . !
As a reformed Sad Ham, I appreciate your reviews. Although I am somewhat frightened by your intro music. 🙂
I just stumbled across your channel last night and never laughed so hard. It was everything, funny, informative and really well done. I know a couple of hamsters and they said the same thing, "you can't use that radio without a license", yea right! Anyway, I know this has to be the dumbest question but, How can I change the Start up message when turning on the Baofeng UV-5R+PLUS? Any help would be greatly appreciated and I can't wait to start checking out the other videos you have to offer. Keep up the good work and thanks. It is the Best radio ever made in the world!
Look at his “all menu options explained” video. It’s in there.
I like your videos very informative 😊
Thank you!
Not boring at all!!! Most ham radio shows will put ya slap to sleep 💤
I'm a cool kid when I watch your videos! And don't worry about the trolls, being a sarcastic pr**k is a gift. lol..
BTW, the VFO button is an acronym for variable frequency oscillator > self explanatory.
Boafeng is life.
Excellent. Thank you very much.
Have you ever played with the TYT TH-UV88? At $35 I think it's in the running for "dollar for dollar" prize, but what's very nice is that it's the same radio as the Radioddity GM-30 GMRS radio. If you buy them both for about $75 total you get two radios, two batteries (one of which can be charged with USB-C), and a desktop charger that charges both. One battery needs a tiny mod to work in the other radio, but all in all a nice combo.
I'm a cool kid! Thank you for your content and information!
In the baofeng software for the radio you can lock out any channels you don't want to scan.
Love your shirt, I need one.
I like my Baofeng BF-F8HP. It may not be a Kenwood but it does what I want it to do .
If anything would...Ken Wood!
Greatly appreciated 🙏
I love ur freedom mats !
Thanks you non-boring keypad punching guy! You taught me a lot.
45 seconds in and already bringing it to the sad hams
I love my UV-5R, I bought it as a replacement for my Yaesu VX-5R, and to be honest it's adequate for my purposes. I haven't looked back to getting a new battery for the Yaesu even though it has better frequency coverage (153KHz to 1GHz, no gaps, thanks to some awesome mods) and a better (non-stock) antenna.
I swear to G-d almighty this is my favorite youtube channel. I'm a cool kid. You should be making real TV shows (hell, maybe you do, living in LA)
We had a TV show on Amazon Prime - you can watch it on UA-cam now - Its a little different from the videos I do now.. You can watch an episode here: ua-cam.com/video/qcGiKEhfFMI/v-deo.html
Also tried my hand at a $0 budget documentary: ua-cam.com/video/b3AIYWROQkE/v-deo.html
Thanks for the Excellent Video... This has been one WILD YEAR FOR TORNADOES 🙃 living in the country at the lake IS A COOL KID THING... Retired so doing something New, HAM RADIO
Great video.. I had a question maybe you already have a video. Instead of your scan channels like you show can you have it scan on both so for example if I have 2 boafangs 1 is my base and 1 is my mobile. On the base can I have it scan on both A & B so say for example the A scans all FRS channels Frequencies and B scans all GMR channels Frequencies so you have a all FRS/GMR scanner then I could use my mobile or my main PTT uv-5r as a you know mobile where I can put on that 1 A FRS and B GMR slot for the on the go listen or chat and say if my gf/wife was at home she could hear my chat or even PTT back no matter what channel I was on because the fact I would have all FRS/GMR in my base home walkie... thanks
Excellent, thank you.
Dr Strangelove is my all time favorite movie.
Thanks for the help, we must be close-same channels
Thanks!
Thank YOU!
I learned a lot from this video, but the main thing I took away was that I need that battery pack. Also that VFO stands for...something.
great video, thanks!
VFO - Very Fine Operator, a ham term used to encourage hams that they are using their radios properly. They need this encouragement or they may become sad.
Need a review of the BF-H7 would be awesome
thanks for the info.
great stuff.
Randy can you make a short video like this explaining how to listen to Sky warn channels and get them programed in a UV5r. I dont understand setting up the tones and the offsets. also when your in Memory mode and you set offsets and tones do they stay specific to each channel or do you have to set them each time you want to listen? thanks! Appreciate you!
Thank You Randy, Love your informative and entertaining videos. Signed notasadham
VFO mode stands for SUMTHIN' like Variable Frequency Oscillator
I'm a cool kid , all the best from Ireland
Thanks man❤
Got them for 15$ each - absolutely insane value.
In CHIRP you can program it to skip channels in the scan mode.
I love the shirt
