I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported this video! It's exciting and humbling to see how much traction it has gotten. Consider sticking around for future essays (and more) -- they're coming!
You deserve it, there was serious thought behind your statements and the vocabulary used to portray you thoughts. It’s refreshing to see rather then the usually thoughtless Drabble that has become so common on the platform

I’ve been playing RuneScape since 2003. I play almost daily, and you would with playing the game for nearly 22 years, I know a lot about it, but not everything. I just spent an hour watching a video telling me about the game I’ve been playing for nearly my whole life, and enjoyed every second of it. You did a fantastic job with this video. Incredibly well put together. I’m glad you’re apart of the community
Going off of the 29:00 minute mark, it's something I really appreciate of runescape is that, unlike most other games - not just MMOs but games in general, I can put it down and come back years later and remember *exactly* what I need to do. The simplicity on the surface makes the game a lot like riding a bike. It feels like a project I can lovely chip away at over the course of time. Which works really well for my brand of adhd, where I burn out easily but also often come back to the same thing.
this is why i always felt (and still feel) nostalgic about this game, even though i never played it when i was young. i used to watch my best friend play it, and when i wanted to give it a crack 10 years later it sparked a childish yet amusing joy out of both of us, as the very things he did back then was what i was doing now. time passed, we grew up, but what we did back then came alive again, and those children came back with it too.
This is one of the best Runescape retrospectives that I have ever seen. Great job on the video. I've been playing this game fairly consistently since 2001 and I still have so many things to do on both my RS3 and OSRS account even though they are both maxed. It really does have something special about it that no other mmo can manage to capture. GW2 was probably the closest for me, but no other MMO has the hold on me that Runescape does.
Great video, very envious of people that have a way with words like yourself. As the other dude said, keep this high quality content up and its only a matter of time until you get big. Looking forward to your next video :)
I really appreciate the kinds words. Thank you for sticking around. The writing process of these video essays is definitely my favorite part, so I'm glad you enjoyed what I've written!
13:48 huge OSRS fan here, I’ve been playing basically since they rebooted in 2013. I think the art and old school nature are simultaneously beloved and taken for granted by the community. There’s uproar whenever new areas/NPCs/gear are created that don’t “feel oldschool”, but we as a player base often don’t realize how good we’ve got it. Our dev team is incredibly receptive to feedback, and the art is often a sticking point for the community, but the devs have gotten into a good state where they car flex their creative chops while still keeping the oldschool feel. I’m only this far into the video but just wanted to say I’ve loved the style so far, it’s basically the love letter I would want to write to this game, which is incredibly cool because you’ve only played it for a relatively short amount of time. Love the video, hope it blows up for ya ❤
First of all, thanks a ton for the support, it means the world to me. Second, I agree with you. I think it's strange how OSRS simultaneously has the most recognizable and arguably unique artstyle of any MMO, while still not being recognized for that.
I’m absolutely overwhelmed by how incredible this video is. Like so many others in the comments, I completely agree that you deserve so much more recognition on this platform. It’s truly heartwarming to see someone articulate so beautifully why Old School RuneScape is such a special game. For so many of us who’ve been playing since childhood, this video captures the magic and nostalgia in a way that’s hard to put into words. I’ve always struggled to explain to others why I’m so passionate about this game, but your video feels like it speaks directly to the hearts of OSRS enthusiasts everywhere. It’s a gem of a contribution to this community, and I can’t thank you enough for sharing it. Keep up the amazing work!
This was awesome and I could relate to a lot of your experiences as a relatively new OSRS player. I just subbed and I'm gonna check out your other vids. Keep it up!
Extremely well done! As someone who has played Runescape back in 2007 and still logs on from time to time it's always special to see new people still finding this game and seeing it's true value! it's crazy to me how different osrs is from other games. we are so lucky
Audibly chuckled out loud when you relayed the story of your GIM mate asking how to unlock more bag space. Inventory management is one of the many little “mini games” RuneScape asks you to solve over and over again (learning the language of the world).
Asking your players to consider the little things like this, rather than expediting every single process is what makes the game so memorable -- You wake up thinking about it because it asks you to think about it.
@@TheoryWiseOS one thing I would’ve added is the fact that inventory expansion does exist, but via certain items that hold other others. Rune Pouch, Bolt Pouch, Log Basket, Coal Bag, and many many more exist.

Didn't know what to expect from this video since I've been playing on and off since OSRS release (and earlier) but this helped me to realize I wasn't the only one seeing these qualities in the game. The editing is on point, narration as well and you nailed every single subject - welcome to the OSRS addicted club and I hope you keep having fun for years to come!
This was one of the most well written scripts I've seen in a UA-cam video. Comprehensive, entertaining, beautiful. I knew every single song and bit of lore and quest description you expertly wove but instead of getting bored with what I already knew, I became lost in your wonder and analysis of the depth I'd forgotten in my own personal hell of a no XP waste mentality. Thank you for reminding me why I've kept leaving and coming back to this game since 4th grade.
you have earned my trust through your deep understanding in runescape, while acknowledging you have only scratched the surface. subbed, and i hope to see more great works in the future. thank you.
Genuinely what a fantastic breakdown on the game. Your prose throughout made the video super enjoyable to listen to, and you raised a lot of good points to think about. Your point of integration/meshing of content throughout the game (along with, as you mention, many impactful rewards from many diverse activities) made me understand why I don’t like most other MMOs. Nothing hooked me the way OSRS has and nothing has since, and I think those two reasons you discuss are the biggest tipping point. Also appreciated how multiple times in the video there were big points I was hoping you’d discuss that got mentioned right after! RuneScape is a rhythm game at its core and that’s the beauty of its combat system, PvP, and some skilling as well. Subscribed and belled. I’d love to see more OSRS content in the future!
A lot more to come! Right now i'm releasing some casual Leagues playthroughs inbetween my next video essay, which will be discussing Leagues and limited time game modes within MMOs.

I've honestly never seen someone so deserving of more subs. Quality vs count you should be passing 100k already. That aside, the single best encapsulation of osrs I've ever had the pleasure of watching. Fantastic script. Subbed, I hope you document more of your journey into Gilenor. Well done mate.
Wow.. wow.. WOW! Amazing content! I am lost for words.. from the production and text to the sounds and depth, it is a piece of ART! Sometimes we Og runescape players tend to forget how awesome the game is as we take it for granted. Thanks for the reminder! Can’t wait to login
The way you crafted that story was marvelous! I've been playing runescape for the better part of 20 or so years now (with some long gaps here and there) and there were a number of feelings that your words helped me to remember. Subscribed!
this video was incredibly impressive in how you articulate your thoughts and love for the game and brought to light so many things i've never considered. Really enjoyable video man!
I can't stick with other MMOs because old content just gets cycled out and forgotten, I love that decades old content is still being completed, especially with end game players sometimes roping in new players for things like tanking KBD for them, giving them the drops since they're just chasing the pet or a combat achievement.
A beautiful explanation. I started playing again 1 year ago on oct 2023 after leaving the game at the turn of evolution of combat. Inthralled by the new quests, areas and skilling activities, i have loved every minute of it. I was able to bring some friends along on the journey, some who never played as a kid. I was such a pleasure seeing them fall in love with this world and all it offers. It was a video explaining the intricacies of the interconnectiveness off all the skills, quests, monsters and NPC's much like this one. I hope that this inspires others to start on this journey of one of the greatest games ever made. The stories that are within the game are truly remarkable.
I don’t usually comment on videos, but this is truly wonderful to watch. I have played RuneScape for 20 years and I’m always so happy to see someone pick the game up and find the ineffable happiness I do in it. Usually ineffable, but you put so much in to words that I never could. Thank you.
Wow, came to hear a unique perspective on OSRS compared to other MMOs. Turned out to be the best essay about OSRS I've heard. Glad you are a part of the community ❤️
Hey just want to thank you for this video. Ive been trying to explain to my gamer buddys on why ive been playing osrs nonstop for the past year. I made my osrs account last October as i played runescape as much as much as my parents would let me before they would eventually kick me off the family computer because i was on it for a "few hours" now i have the problem of jagex kicking me off because im on it for 6 lol (im in the 30s now). Ive put a lot of time into my osrs account over this past year and now im finally experiencing late game content and man does it look like im going to be putting a lot more time into it.... anyways this video nails osrs on the head and just wanted to show my apprecation. Well done!
spot on and really well analyzed - hope that your channel continues to grow - you explained this better than 90% of osrs content creators could and have only been playing the game for a year
Idk how but you managed to put in words the magic of runescape. The vocabulary and planning put into this high quality video is more than some people put into college papers. well done!
all i can say is wow. you couldn’t have explained it any better. you took the exact thoughts out of thousands of players and flawlessly interpreted into one 50 minute video. well done and well said 👏
this video made me cry at the end thats how good it was this was a perfect video the only thing i would add is talking about how even food has complexity with double and triple eating and how sara brews save tics
I have to comment again, THIS VIDEO IS AMAZING! How are you making me so emotional? I actually have tears in my eyes ... This game means so much to me, thank you for sharing your experience as a new player. And sharing your unique perspective. The fact that there are actual new players discovering and/or re-discovering osrs, warms me to my bones.
OSRS' "horizontal progression" as you called it, and the way account upgrades come in the form of quality of life as much as combat power, is one of my favorite things about the game and not a part I've seen talked about super often. Fantastic video, I can't wait to check out the rest!
a fan of language i see. i appreciate your very deliberate word choices and structuring. good vid too (osrs wasnt a passion project by devs, it was an overwhelming request from players). well edited and paced video. audio mixing is good too and thats rare these days :D nice one dude
Thank you! I'm glad you appreciate my script, I put a lot of effort into it. I'm still learning how to mix my audio, so I'm glad my efforts weren't to waste since I was pulling my hair out in Premier to try and sounds decent. When it comes to my use of "passion project," I more so am referring to the developers tasked to work on it who pushed to add new, innovative content to help grow the game, because without them, it would've kept stagnating as we saw in early 2014 with the player numbers dipping below 20,000 concurrent. But I agree! OSRS was born from demand of players unhappy with the state of Runescape as it were.
Great video, and I appreciate the emphasis on what I feel is OSRS's greatest asset: you can leave it at any time and come back at any time, and everything you did back then is still relevant and useful to you, and you can pick up right where you left off, with no need to skip anything released since and no pressure to get to the newest content. It is a game that truly allows you to go at your own pace, which can't be said of any of its competitors. If you ask any longtime World of Warcraft player what their least favorite thing about the game is, or why they quit, they will invariably answer "I didn't like my progress being reset every six months." OSRS never resets your progress. And I understand why WoW does it - the entire game runs on FOMO. If you don't do the new content now, when it's relevant, you may never get to do it as it was intended, you may only ever get to do it years later when it has been powercrept to the point that it is hardly content at all and the only reason to do it is to add to your ever-growing list of cosmetic overrides, and is otherwise a complete waste of time. I wish we had more games like OSRS. But we do have OSRS at least, and I am very glad for that.
So glad you mentioned inventory management. It really is low key one of the best parts of OSRS almost that no-one talks about. It's like old CRPGs. And there too you find constant upgrades throughout the game that save inventory slots, clicks etc. Barbarian skills save the need for tools and tool management, rune pouch allows you to carry all your teleports in one slot, upgrading your house lets you put more teleports there, including stuff like jewelry teleports so a rune pouch or tele to house tab is immediately a "teleport anywhere", void can make switches easier etc. etc.
As someone that's near the end of their OSRS journey I appreciate how this captures the essence of Runescape I've always been trying to tell people about.
"At the end of their osrs journey " 🤔HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE??? I've left and returned on and off since 2004 and am determined to stick at it...yet still not ready for bossing, no max capes, no raids done yet , why I'm still grinding away at this unholy thief of time idk someone save me please 😫
@@kateoc8 Stop playing like a dopamine fein then you fooking freak. Play it like you would any normal hobby or video game. A good rule of thumb for RS is 30 minutes to 1 hour a night , and two or three longer sessions a week. There’s no rush. This is over a 23 year old game, it’s not going anywhere, bud…..
The way you described your ideas and concepts of what defines good art was beautiful. The value in good art stems from the artistic heartbeat that let us experience our emotions. Even if the emotions we exeprience through some games are negative, we value it. That's part of what gives the experience depth. Great video. It explains much of what is so special about a games like OSRS and From Softwares games. I hope you get more views, well deserved!
Incredibly pleased to hear you enjoyed this video. More to come, both scripted and unscripted -- I'll likely be doing a Leagues V playthrough (guideless) followed by further analysis on limited time game modes and more!
Your part about the visuals in the DT2 is so accurate. Lasar Undercity is my favorite area in the game because it's the Runescape art style being realized to its potential
"Citizens of the world" is so accurate for MMO design. Way too many MMOs now have simply elected to bypass the in-game journey through spending to advance yourself, or alternatively just decided to trivialize their game for the sake of accessibility to less-skilled or less-committed players. In the case of the former, it's simply greed-driven, but the latter fundamentally misunderstands what MMOs are about. The fun of them is knowing for much of your journey that there are better players doing more difficult things than you, and aspiring to one day do those things yourself. Blizzard would see those aspiration and spit on them, nerf whatever it is you can't currently do, then question why you're uninterested in spamming Delves or Mythic +.
I do tend to agree with what you're saying, I further broke down MMOs and their purpose in my "All Good MMOs are Old" video, would love to hear your thoughts on that if you get around to watching it.
Having started playing runescape nearly 20 years ago this was a really interesting watch to see how a relatively new player perceives the game. I'm glad someone else sees the rhythm game aspect in it. Honestly a great video, the outro clips just had me smiling the whole time, account changing drops are a sight to behold.
Awesome video, watched the entire thing. I've been playing a long time now and you captured the essence of osrs in this vid nicely. Thank you for doing this
This video will blow up now, it's being recommended next to big rs UA-camrs for me now It's such a good video, it explains perfectly why we love this game.
The soundtrack alone just brings me back to when I was 12 grinding varrock guards for some unknown reason. God honestly so good, ive started and stopped runescape so often but I think its one of those games that I will always have a couple month phase of every year or 2.
Absolute S-Tier essay on one of the greatest MMO's ever made! (OSRS is my first wife as my girlfriend always tells me) Thank you for such a beautiful, eloquent dissection on what makes this game like no other. This an homage we, the community, are so grateful for. Easy 100K subs soon, brother
This videos is phenominal! A video that puts in words what we all have felt when logging in for the first time and are probably still feeling while playing today - we just sometimes forget. You have a special talent with words, keep it up! PS: Best video I have ever seen describing OSRS (will use this to explain to non osrs players from now on).
Really appreciated your video - I have tried OSRS and RS3 off and on for a few years. There was always something there that interested me but failed to hold me. I saw what wonderful potential these games have and why they are so important to the genre. Over the last few weeks, I have been playing a lot of Andrew Gower's Brighter Shores. For some unknown reason, this has gripped me. I'm excited to see where the game goes. Great video, keep up the good work!

Damn only a matter of time before you blow up with quality videos like this. Just need an Asmongold algorithm bump and you will be at 10k subs in no time brother!
Thanks so much for the support! Stick around for more to come.
I was gonna say lol
Maybe @J1mmy should do another reaction vid on this one
@@Wosser1sProductions I wouldn't mind! haha
@@TheoryWiseOSseems like it did hit the algorithm, it was such a well made video! All of your videos are really well done and high quality
I LOVE when somebody can eloquently explain my own thoughts and feelings better than I can.
Thank you for this.
That was my goal! Thank you for your support
Your words mean the world, glad to hear you enjoyed my video!
Wow.. wow.. WOW! Amazing content! I am lost for words.. from the production and text to the sounds and depth, it is a piece of ART! Sometimes we Og runescape players tend to forget how awesome the game is as we take it for granted. Thanks for the reminder! Can’t wait to login
So happy you enjoyed it!
The way you crafted that story was marvelous! I've been playing runescape for the better part of 20 or so years now (with some long gaps here and there) and there were a number of feelings that your words helped me to remember. Subscribed!
Glad you enjoyed it so much!
Incredibly well thought-out script that voices the visceral feelings of a lifelong runescape player's experience. Well done!
Happy to hear you enjoyed it so much!
this video was incredibly impressive in how you articulate your thoughts and love for the game and brought to light so many things i've never considered.
Thank you.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it so much.
Wow, came to hear a unique perspective on OSRS compared to other MMOs. Turned out to be the best essay about OSRS I've heard. Glad you are a part of the community ❤️
Thanks so much!
Well done!
Glad you enjoyed!!!
Captivating essay. I thought this would be a second monitor video but I just sat back and enjoyed every minute. Thank you!
Thanks!
Amazing video, legit surprised you don't have more subscribers with that level of quality but I'm sure it'll come in time.
I really appreciate the sentiment and thank you for your support!
spot on and really well analyzed - hope that your channel continues to grow - you explained this better than 90% of osrs content creators could and have only been playing the game for a year
I'm so happy you enjoyed!
beautifully written!
Thank you!
oh hi drew
Idk how but you managed to put in words the magic of runescape. The vocabulary and planning put into this high quality video is more than some people put into college papers. well done!
Thank you for the support!
actually such a good video bro. Welcome to runescape. I've been here 20 years. Subbed
actually such a good comment bro! Thanks for your support, I'm excited to have you onboard this content creation journey :)
all i can say is wow. you couldn’t have explained it any better. you took the exact thoughts out of thousands of players and flawlessly interpreted into one 50 minute video. well done and well said 👏
how do you not have 100k subscribers yet? This video is amazing!
Your support is one step closer to reaching that!
Phenomenally put together video! You summarized the beauty of Runescape perfectly! Just another reminder of why I love this game so damn much!
this video made me cry at the end thats how good it was this was a perfect video the only thing i would add is talking about how even food has complexity with double and triple eating and how sara brews save tics
I'm glad that my writing resonated with you! And don't worry, I plan to do an entire separate video on OSRS combat!
How did i miss this gem for 8 days, ur so articulate. Well made video. ❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much for your support, glad you enjoyed!
This video is so well made! Kudos and good luck on your future gielinor adventures!
Thanks for your support!
Quality video, really didnt feel like a 55 minute video, was great
Thank you so much! I'm excited to hear you enjoyed it, and I hope you stick around for more down the line.
Thank you so much for this video, great work! I also love your way with words
Appreciate your support!
Glad to hear it!
"At the end of their osrs journey "
🤔HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE???
I've left and returned on and off since 2004 and am determined to stick at it...yet still not ready for bossing, no max capes, no raids done yet , why I'm still grinding away at this unholy thief of time idk someone save me please 😫
@@kateoc8 sounds like you need to go to nightmarezone get high combat stats join a solid clan and just jump into some bossing!
@@kateoc8you never quit runescape, you just go afk
Crazy quality in the video! Loved the points you brought up. Could relate so easily. Thanks dude! 🙏
I'm glad that part resonated with you! Thank you for your support.
Quality content, this.
Beening playing since 2003, and you've nailed just about everything I love about this game.
Thankyou algorithm for blessing me with this channel! Just got you a sub ❤
Thank you for your support. I hope you enjoy my future content.
Huge gz on drops shown in the last part of the video, these are some great items.
Great video, enjoyed it a lot!
Such a masterclass on storytelling and content creation. Thank you.
Bravo! and Welcome Brother!
Thanks!
Such a amazing video! great job! Welcome to OSRS, you have made some incredible progress it seems
Glad you enjoyed it!
only 60 subs... cant wait for the blow up. such quality of video
With your support, I have seen my sub count grow, thank you!
Awesome video, watched the entire thing.
I've been playing a long time now and you captured the essence of osrs in this vid nicely.
Thank you for doing this
Such a well constructed video. Keep them coming ❤
Thank you! Will do!
This video will blow up now, it's being recommended next to big rs UA-camrs for me now
It's such a good video, it explains perfectly why we love this game.
Really happy to hear you enjoyed it! Thank you!
Amazingly well written essay, loved the video and your passion behind it, keep it coming bro
Thank you so much!
bro pulled up with a thesaurus
Insanely high quality video on a game I can never get away from. Great stuff man!
Great video man
So happy to hear you enjoyed it!
Such a good explanation, thank you for shining a light on this beloved game, been playing since 05.
Thank you for watching!
I've played WoW, BDO, FF14, ESO, PoE, and none of these games even come close to OSRS. It is unironically the best mmo ever created.
The soundtrack alone just brings me back to when I was 12 grinding varrock guards for some unknown reason. God honestly so good, ive started and stopped runescape so often but I think its one of those games that I will always have a couple month phase of every year or 2.
No my friend, you are spending over a year addicted to OSRS
"never quit, only long breaks"
I don't doubt it!
I thought I quit once… then I logged in after a year and completed about 40 quests and got my quest cape 😂😂
Absolutely beautiful video of my favorite MMORPG! I hope this video gets a lot of traction!
put the thesaurus away dude.
I really enjoyed this video! Very well made, it was a joy to listen to/watch.
Thank you so much!
Calling it now, OSRS will be the number 1 MMO within 2 years
Amazing video, glad you liked your stay in OSRS :)
Absolute S-Tier essay on one of the greatest MMO's ever made! (OSRS is my first wife as my girlfriend always tells me)
Thank you for such a beautiful, eloquent dissection on what makes this game like no other. This an homage we, the community, are so grateful for.
Easy 100K subs soon, brother
Thank you so much on your support! Glad you enjoyed it, and I appreciate you spreading the word of my work :)
This videos is phenominal! A video that puts in words what we all have felt when logging in for the first time and are probably still feeling while playing today - we just sometimes forget.
You have a special talent with words, keep it up!
PS: Best video I have ever seen describing OSRS (will use this to explain to non osrs players from now on).
great video my bro
Thanks so much!
