Case 300 skidder

My case 300 skid king pulling 3 maples out. The engine is a 3-53 Detroit Diesel, I just had completely rebuilt. They are 2 stroke diesels so that is why they sound different than what most diesels sound. More videos on the way.

Are they a pretty decent machine? I am trying to figure out if I want to put money into fixing it up good or maybe buying something else.

Yep, I never saw one before I found this one. It seems most parts are available for the skidder and all engine parts since it is a 3-53.

endlessmountainwoodworks I’ve heard that parts availability is a bitch for the Case skid Kings (both the early Beloit models like that one and the later models.) You’re right about Detroit parts for sure

Well that's sort of true, parts from Case are non existent, same for my 450 Case dozer. However with a bit of searching you can find parts that fit. Right now I am having trouble with the steering. It is an intermittent problem, sometimes the steering gets jerky and then outright wont steer. I am going to pull apart and clean the orbital motor and flow control valve, hopefully that fixes it.

I thought that engine sounded familiar, I had a 32 ft fishing boat with that engine in the eighties.

Should cover up those batteries a stick in the tire chain could perce them cause a fire or explosion

I am not sure how big of an issue that is with only the top exposed but thanks for letting me know.
