  • If anyone is interested all the lumber I cut is for sale.
I found this log at the edge of the creek after the ice broke up recently. I have seen part of it sticking out since the big flood in 2011 and it looked old then. The ice uncovered it enough that I could pull it out. I believe that it is a cherry and has some amazing grain patterns.

It'd be a lot of fun being in a forested area and having a little sawmill to play with, high quality blades, properly adjusted blade guides and clean wood is the only way to go, just a tiny bit of damage on either kerf and it's all over... I'm sure you know that by now...

Thanks, this will probably be the most interesting log for a while but I will be sure to film any nice logs or logs with interesting grain.

If your blade guide is adjustable, move it closer to the log. Helps the blade cut straight.

Thanks for watching, depending on how the lumber dries from that log I may look for more creek logs to cut in the future.

Appears that your blade is definitely not wanting to cut straight. is the whole cutting head square with the track? Appears that the blade tension is a bit loose, but that is hard to say from this camera shot. As others have mentioned, don't back up while cutting if possible. Every time you finished a cut, the blade would drop considerably. You need to tune that saw and track. But sure is fun to see what's inside isn't it?

If the log is as old and dense as it appears, the demand for the lumber is very high.

That log looked like it was hard. I've had or been around sawmiills my whole life. But we had most was Frick Mills. Do you use or sale your lumber. Keep up good work.

I am not sure what will be made with them, it depends if they dry good or split all up. I will put it on the channel when they are ready.

endlessmountainwoodworks they recomend to seal the ends up as soon as u get or cut a log. and i had cut some white oak that i did not seal and each end has a 6 inch crack running up the board. i get the paint from hardware store where they messed up on the color. u can usually get it for $2 a gallon. it makes a huge difference on the boards checking

@@williambrainard4530 I dont normally have any issues with that if the log is good. Some logs crack before they get on the log truck but most dont and dry just fine. I have found if I put stickers right up to the ends of the boards they wont crack when drying. The large mills do it that way it seems to work for them.

Never back up with your blade running like that in the middle of a cut

  • @healthy2202

Ididn't hear how long? I knew the blade was bending to much to back it up. the wood looked like a solid slab of marble.

Nice log, I'm just not a fan of those harbor freight mills

    • @endlessmountainwoodworks4278

If I could go back and choose a different mill I probably would, not necessarily because of the features for that dollar amount but because mills in that price range cant cut a very wide log. I would like to be able to cut 30 inch slabs. I have overall been happy with it but I think the woodlands mill is pretty much the same price and I think it can cut a little longer lumber without adding track.

@@swampyankeeoutdoors5706 I believe the max width is around 20" isn't it? I know the largest log I milled was 25-26" and I had to square it before I could start slabbing.

22 I the biggest I've done on mine which is about max for the one I have and dont need to do anything wider than 15 usually, but I also only paid $1700 shipped and they threw in 10 blades a cant hook and extended warranty for free

    • @swampyankeeoutdoors5706
      @swampyankeeoutdoors5706 5 років тому

But I did do a 25" after being squared, anything bigger I'd need the next sized up mill , but that was almost another $1000 lol
