I think the important takeaway from your Fatalis victory is this: you came from a pretty strong dislike of Monster Hunter, to becoming a fan, to getting quite good at the game. Fatalis didn't represent your final wall - it represented your total growth, and getting to the point where what was once an insurmountable obstacle became a testament to your own skill. Fatalis wasn't easier for you because it's an easy fight, it was easier because you're just that good at Monster Hunter now. Congratulations.

I know, you probably meant something like "siege weapons" but still that switch axe didn't make itself ;p. I kinda like artillery in that fight... but more for the narrative that this castle was heavily armed for defense and still lost to this dragon before and now you're back to settle the score.

You could argue that using weapons provided against fatalis still has a very huge you vs nature especially considering the lore that those weapons are left behind from a civilization that was defeated by fatalis so using those weapons provides you with a sense that you now are able to defeat something with the weapons that the past people weren't able to. Besides a hunter would use any tool available to him to beat the monsters.

personally I think Fatalis is the best fight in iceborne there is so much to learn about him there are so many cool openings that don't look like opening so the fight goes from being terrifying to exhilerating as you realise that you can now handle the god among monsters with ease. also if you don't wanna get one shot breaking the horns is a necessity as it decreases the damage of his fire attacks.
Also I would just like to say that I love how much your opinion of monster hunter has turned around, from not wanting to buy rise, to reluctantly giving it another shot, to then fall in love with it and now be genuinely excited about starting a new adventure in a different monster hunter game. It has been awesome to watch you grow through all of this.

ZSD can kill you fast and requires alot of knowledge of every single monster. LS is 10x easier then switch axe in every aspect.
It´s actually way more impressive that he played the least defensive weapon in the game.

    • @rustygear447
      @rustygear447 2 роки тому +8

@@Spinexus LS does take some skills to master. I think it's about the same as Swaxe. The hardest part about LS vs Fatty is timing and aiming the helm break. You have to a lot of experience to do it safely and hit weak spots. however, when you master it, it's super safe and do a lot more dmg than it should.
You don't need to master Swaxe to fight Fatty. that's the annoying part. just Temporal or Rocksteady and ZSD his head lol. it's so boring.

I actually like having the field artillery. It helps entertain my thoughts on how humans would hunt large animals or dinosaurs. Have you tried the arena quests in the hub? Maybe when you visit the game again you can play the gladiatorial-like challenges in the arena. I think there is a pretty fun one in there where you go hunt an Anjanath and one other monster, I think (I can't remember which one), out in the field with nothing but your pre-set gear and... your knowledge of survival.

Recommendations for future goals for Iceborne:
    - Beat every single player monster solo but with a different weapon.
    - Beat Fatalis solo without ZSD cheese.
    - Beat Safi solo (tedious, requires a long stream)
    - Cut every severable tail.
    - Get all Guiding Lands levels to 7 at least once.
    - Endemic life hunting. (Ever hunted for shiny Pokemon? Feels like that)

  • @josephhussain7238
    @josephhussain7238 2 роки тому +3

There's *always* more to learn! HBG was my second to last mastered weapon (or at least as close as can be), but put an emphasis on timing my dodges beyond any other weapon in the entire arsenal!
Greatsword was heavy in really learning where the monster was going to be, what it was doing, and so on so that you didn't waste 5 seconds hitting a powerful attack on a terrible hitzone. Bow and DB force you to know when you need to pull back a little, or play defensively without giving up their speed advantages or doing damage quickly.
Hammer probably taught me positioning the most out of any weapon, simply because 99% of monsters take the most damage in the head with blunt weapons. Insect Glaive kept me on my toes when it came to keeping track of my buffs without losing focus on the fight, or losing out on damage because I focused on the situation too often.
Lance and Gunlance ironically taught me a lot about evasion, as well as how guarding works in general, while managing stamina and for both actions since you're not as focused on *avoiding* attacks like other weapons, but taking them head on with a dodge or block.
Charge Blade was all about knowing when to stop being greedy, or when you should take your shot, because you would lose out on your bonuses due to time or simply missing, and losing out on damage all the time. Switch Axe's frame heavy moves really forced you to know when you should move to a new position, sheathe, or attack.
Longsword taught me to be aggressive and really understand the "dance" that every monster has. SNS made me realize that you have items at your hands, and you should definitely take care to use any and all of them to your and your team's advantage.
Hunting Horn forced me to learn a monster's tells and so on without wasting time simply running around or taking hits, while managing timed buffs in my head at the same time. Light Bowgun really drilled into my head item management, as well as how to truly take advantage of all the ways the game allows you to develop your bowgun or different types of ammo.
There's so much to learn, and I still have ways to go despite having played through MH3U, 4U, GU, and World solo. I haven't even come close to mastering the Hunting Horn or Light Bowgun yet, but have already brought them up to an efficient level of play while learning more tactics for other weapons along the way!

the way i look at fatalis is unlike other monster, like you said, you vs the nature, fatalis stood above all of that and so much mystery surrounding it. we don't know where it from, why is it destroying the shcrade castle, long time ago, or why is it even exist in the first place. so using the "tools" like cannon ballista etc, for me, is a metaphor for man vs nature itself. man made weapon vs the unknown, all powerful, black dragon. and it's kinda poetic in some way or another. especially those last minute if you use the dragonator and the "proof of a hero" plays. such a throw back.

    Things to take note of:
    - Fatalis is supposedly before AT Velhana
    - Fatalis may not have felt like an mhw final fight because it was added as a change of plans I think. (Someone made a image of Fatalis with updated texture which made fans want Fatalis in mhw ib.) And I think capcom decided to make - Fatalis instead of their original plans
    - You can mount Fatalis if you use glider mantle or ig
The furious rajang quest (mew are number one!) Has a reward of 210,000 zenni. It's the best grind quest for money and decos.

I should point out two things. First you CAN mount Fatalis, it is a high threshold to get said mount but you can do it and like Shara and Alatreon it can shake you off very easily. To increase your chances use decorations that increase your airborne attack power and a charm to make it easier to mount. Another thing is that your fighting in a castle right so of course theres gonna be cannons and ballista. Throughout the whole game apart from a few exceptions you have been going out to the wilds of nature to hunt monsters so yes no cannons etc but this time your fighting a monster in the ruins of a castle not in the wilds so it makes total sense and it is explained as to why

Think of those siege weapons as pieces of history; basically Fatalis and the Schrade are things of past and your reminiscing it, except you give Schrade a chance to fight back to its captor.
And about AT Velk and Fatalis, you improve alot to the point that you are more prepared hunting Fatalis than when you're hunting AT Velk. In my case, I hunt Fatalis the first time and it was the hardest fight I had, making me prepared to AT Velk, which is piece of cake in comparison. Ngl, I still find Fatalis harder outside of cheese tactics.
    And congratulations hunter!

  • @hiimshana
    @hiimshana 2 роки тому

I personally think that Fatalis is made this way on purpose: it has to be the hardest fight of the game, and to achieve this it has to be less “clicky” than the others monsters.
Fatalis is not a monster, is The Black Dragon that made hunters forge that terminology, it is something that trascends nature, therefore it is not like the other monsters: you are completely right, there isn’t a moment in that fight at which everything clicks, and imo that’s amazing.
Because Fatalis doesn’t have to click, it has to be fearsome and menacing for the whole 30 minutes.
Anyway big GGs for defeating it (especially so fast!) and it’s good to see that you literally went “from zero to hero”, not knowing anything about the game and getting to actually enjoy it and have genuine fun.
It’s been a pleasure to follow you along this journey, and best of luck for what comes next!

Congrats, Jay. You did well, but you know that cause you're looking for more. Just a tip from a grizzled old hunter with a bad knee..(they ALWAYS have a bad knee it seems), think about the skills a little bit and dive into them. The old school games have negative skills that hurt you if they activate. You have to either pick a different piece or gem in that skill to lower it and deactivate it. It's a bit different from what you're used to. Skills are not just picking and choosing what you want, but more bartering. It's a bit of a different mindset and takes a bit getting used to, but it makes you really learn the armor game.

As a primarily solo player, I feel like the Fatalis fight is best in multiplayer, even if your companions make you lose more than 90% of the time. There is just something special about fighting him with a group of people and seeing everyone rushing around together for some reason.
Also, congrats on taking him down solo so quickly. It took me over 50 attempts to get him with the Charge Blade, mostly because I main Savage Axe and hate using SAED, so I constantly ran out of time due to not doing enough head damage. I ended up having to run Fortify and purposely carting twice immediately at the beginning of the fight to be able to take him down.

I personally really like the siege weapons in monster hunter, but that may partly be because I started with 4u, which very early on presents the weapons as tools used against the biggest threats, throwing everything and the kitchen sink at them. I like how fights like fatalis and allmother use siege weapons at certain points but otherwise do still have the feel of the dance of “you do something I do something” idk I just love the massive set piece moments like this. But I do agree that I dislike how one shotty it can be, it feels too brutal and not like it lets you learn because you just get “wtf happened??”

I like how he thinks he truly knows his weapon in and out :P its kinda funny that he has come so far, and beaten every monster on his own, which is a triumph on its own, very much so, and yet he has still missed many features and niche's of his weapon that if he learned them, he would decimate the end game.
He would be like water, flowing with frictionless perfection :D incoming sensei mode! since youve beaten the content.
Things to get used to doing/not doing with Swax:
Triggering the Zero Sum explosion 1-2 ticks early before the final explosion for MUCH faster recovery, allowing you to continue combos and be right next to a monster, at the cost of 70 damage and not spending 5 seconds being blown back to the ground where you can get killed? yes please.
Doing a light attack or transform attack after a double chop of sword mode to chain into another double chop, instead of doing a double chop then side hopping to continue combo.
Properly learning the importance of how transforming from Sword to Axe mid-combo passively replenishes your sword gauge.
Transforming during a roll gives you CRAZY distance, keeps up sword gauge more efficiently, and does good damage if you hit the chop, so Roll > Transform > Transform, if you master this technique then youll zip around monsters.
If you ever walk around slowly with sword mode active, then 99% of the time youve left yourself open, just roll into axe mode, which is much faster, then roll>transform into sword when you engage a monster again.
Using Power Prolonger and learning the true difference between Power/Element/Exhaust Phial Swax, and where its more beneficial to use pure axe or pure sword playstyles, FYI Fatalis Swax is the god of pure physical Axe mode, you said you loved using axe mode, well there is the best option in the game for it, hands down, and the Kjarr Ice and Kjarr Fire Swax's are the best elemental options, hands down, those 3 weapons are the holy trinity of Swax.
Axe mode = High Physical values and small elemental/status values, Sword Mode Elemental Phial = CATASTROPHICALLY HIGH elemental values and low physical values, unless you use Raw Phial, never do high elemental with raw phial, and vice versa.

my fav youtube series has come to an end. think alot of what you got from at velk is that at velk was meant to be played with fatty gear, and doing it earlier brought your skill ceiling up more than the game intended for the average, if dedicated, player. glad you got that super full experience from at velk tho : ) looking forward to the future content, tho sad to see this series end!

So both Alatreon and AT Velkhana were your great teachers here, as they were for many, many people, including myself. I couldn't really claim I understood MHW until I fought and defeated Alatreon solo (after 700+ hours). Your SWX flow that you learned to adapt fighting AT Velkhana was actually beautiful to watch, worthy of a veteran player.
So you can think of Fatalis as a sort of 'final exam'. It doesn't really ask anything new of you, all it asks is that you apply well what you already learned in your previous hunts. Suggest go back and fight it with different kinds of restrictions and builds with a goal of reducing kill time. Thats really all thats left after such a hunt.
    I personally restrict :
    - crafting on the fly, so I only have whatever potions I have on me.
    - Mantles are only allowed one use per fight
    - sub 10 minutes for most fights except ones with phases and special mechanics.

I like having at least the Dragonator. Ever since Ceadeus, I feel like it needs to be there just as a symbol. It's such an iconic tool and it triggers the best track. Just... maybe not as casually as it's in World or Rise, where it was in an arena always. Leave it to the super exclusive boss maps, like Fatalis or (my favorite huge Elder Dragon) Gogmazios. As for the other weaponry? I personally barely use them (except to cheese Zorah for the 1000th time because I can't get its gem) but they kinda give these big boss monsters an extra feel to it imo. You know, like "this is too much for even us hunters". It props them up.
Anyway, congratulations. Loved the journals. I can't wait to see where you'll go next. My money is on MH4U tbh.

This was an awesome journey to watch. Truly, this journey was an entertaining, packed with emotion, and a great insight into a newcomer’s experience. I think it will be awesome to watch you play some of old gen as well, especially Generations Ultimate, as that has exponentially more content than Worldborne, but that’s up to you. Congratulations, Hunter!

One reason on why the Iceborne Fatalis fight is how it is I think is because they wanted the fight to feel close to how it was way back, which is why there's not much for the "dance" but you still have to be a bit more strict with your own movement and flow, you have to be in complete sync with Fatalis to get a better flow through the fight.
Also, for anyone wondering what comes next after finishing MH, fashion is the end game, just like with many games similar to MH. And with that, it means a ton of Guiding Lands farmingXD

Awesome job following through with the pledge! I always look forward to these journals.
I honestly feel the same way about Fatalis, the hunt doesn’t feel as meaningful to me to have all the equipment to fight fatalis with, compared to the one-on-one rush of Alatreon or arch tempered velkhana. The fight was very cinematic but not as much of the dance that you talk about. The fatalis fight honestly felt a little more artificial to me compared to Alatreon

Actually when you play enough games, you will know that Proof of a Hero is when most carts happen. Like you may have this nice team of randos you do well, and suddenly Proof of a Hero start playing and boom! Triple cart!
For me personally, proof of a hero is anxiety generator.

Jay… you do realize that Fatalis IS NATURE…right???
He is the embodiment of nature’s hatred for humanity, and he’s the apex of all apexes.
The fight is meant to symbolize all of humanity (commission, your hunter, Siege equipment), versus everything nature can throw at you (Fatalis).

I do have to say that it's a bit disappointing that you did go with the ZSD cheese strategy on Fatalis, that's a big part of why his fight was way less satisfying. A win is still a win though

Proof of a hero is the reason why we have to use the dragonator. That's the trigger
Also what I like about the weaponry is that it's what the people of schrade let behind, kind of their own resentment towards fatty
