Roadrunners at my door, mating dance with lizard..

A mating pair of roadrunners at my sliders. The male is eating dried meal worms from Kaytee and the female has caught a side-blotched lizard that she wants to initiate a mating dance with. The male has a mal-formed left foot, with three toes forward and one toe back. I've known this pair since Winter 2011.

I've witnessed this ritual three times in the oil fields of Taft, Ca. Twice, the female would take the lizard after the deed was done...but once, the female grabbed the lizard before the male even mounted her. I recognized the look on his face, as this has happened to me once, except it was steak and lobster she got away with.

Male has lizard. It’s courtship feeding. He’s taking her out to dinner. So to speak.
