Our pet roadrunners

- Every afternoon for the past couple years we hand feed roadrunners that come up on our deck to visit. This time, the adult male brought his lunch with him, but still wanted to garnish it with some raw hamburger. The other bird is the son who was born a few months ago and quickly caught on that free handouts were available from the humans on the deck.

My stress level dropped 3 points watching this
Those birds sre highly perceptive. U must be good people. They are like raven and crows . Once they know they can trust you . They will be friendly for life.
best thing about them is you're guaranteed not to have any snakes nearby
A roadrunner that normally walks around our yard and sometimes goes into the garage, showed up with a broken leg. She (I think) hopped up on one leg looking for help.
I fed her about a hundred water beetles (sprinkler box)
We got mealworms and more water beetles.
Her leg is improving.
No wildlife rescue would help so we're doing the best we can.
The male broke his leg. We fed him all the raw hamburger he could eat when he would show up. We observed the female would bring him food also. The leg did heal Thank God. I cried when we saw him. It has a distinct knot where the bread was located. Easy to identify him now.
God bless you for helping him/ her
@@rblauson Happy to report the roadrunner's leg healed. She does have a slight limp but is still running around the desert! A happy ending!

Hey Chris that’s awesome !
I’m really happy you guys are obviously looking out for these really cool and really bizarre incredible animals !
Good on you guys
🥴🥺
I wouldn't be surprised if there were a flattened coyote near by. Ha ha!
I love the tail feathers wagging😂❤.
In native culture my grandmother always told me that it was lucky to see a roadrunner. Well done.
Yes! I was told that and also read that. They are such beautiful creatures.
WOW!!!! Thank you for sharing!!
Those Roadrunners are going to turn into Roadwalkers.
Such a beatiful bird. Meep meep ..
The pair are beautiful. The male is a chatter box.
What a beautiful moment, the roadrunners do look like cute velociraptors!
yea they're somewhat similar, they're both small, both live in deserts, and they both ran around the same speed, and their feathers were probably similarly colored
Love Road Runners.
Awesome, they seriously remind me of velociraptors.
No surprise. Both Dinosauria. Velociraptors might even have been secondarily flightless birds!
Yes, an 'ancient' quality I've only seen in Pileated woodpeckers otherwise. Awesome to have these incredible birds as guests.
I have been saying that for years. I live in Scottsdale and I see them all the time. They move so much like the movie Velociraptors and they are not all cute and cuddly as this father and son. I've seen them hunt and kill all kinds of prey and believe me, Roadrunners are extremely violent killing machines. Lizards large and small, snakes both poison and not. Once they have their prey, they proceed to violently beat it on the ground until is dead. They like other birds the best though. Roadrunners are my favorite ground bird by far. So it's funny that I too have been calling them little velociraptors or years.
Evolution is a cruel bitch. At one point you're a tiny voracious reptile and then you're a little bird that becomes a popular looneytoons character...
I'm cool with foot-high v-raptors. No bigger tho...
I was driving back to Phoenix to return my rental car last week and I saw a roadrunner pop up from behind some large boulders. I was so excited to see one as I had never seen one before, so much so that I yelled out, "roadrunner!!!!" in my empty car. 😂
LOL They are soo beautiful
Your car was not empty. You were in it.
@@itsme-rt7nz I bet you're fun at parties.
@@itsme-rt7nz Also, your username is missing an apostrophe.
@@dustintravis8791 So sorry that I offended you Dustin. I didn't mean to criticize. I meant my comment playfully. I should have added a winky emoji at the end. 😉 I will be more careful about how I say stuff in the future.
If I had Roadrunners around my home I would put a pan of water out for them daily. They are great snake killers including Rattlesnakes ! Awesome video !
They actually get their water from the protein sources they consume. Not a bad idea.
Thank you for sharing this wonderment.
I think he likes the ladies voice
Oh! Just got to 1:47 in the video. You captured courting behavior! The male will bring food as an offering to the female. His tail was going back and forth as well as up and down. Mating dance. You interrupted his show. ha! The female had dropped her head and opened her beak. I think she was going to accept the food he brought her.
I'm sure he tried again later. They're very persistent. I've been watching them in the field across from my RV at sunset. Really interesting birds.
You are correct. He's a lover LOL
one of these things hang out in my back yard here in texas, it likes to catch grasshoppers, but i like having it around to scare away timber rattlers and copperheads
They also eat them...
He wants some dipping sauce lol.
LOL So true
They love you.
Opportunitist!!! With a little trust Lol
aww he even wags his tail
ROAD RUNNER IS REAL! Thank you for this lovely video. I thought Road Runner was only a cartoon character.
Wow!
Amazing!
❤❤❤
ミッミッちゃんのエサやりか。
ミッミッちゃんかわいいですね。
I think they must like listening to people talk to them. The bird sure did like showing off his bug
LOL. It's part of his mating ritual for the companion. He will feed it to her after copulation.
As an AZ native, I approve of this video.
Wow. No words to explain it.
BEAUTIFUL.
Thanks a lot 😊

Greetings from North Texas.
They're basically beaked velociraptors.
I have noticed that crows respond when you talk to them - neighbors probably think I’m a crazy old guy LOL. But these birds are responding just like crows do. Cool.
One old crow to another I guess.
Omnivores! Beautiful facial colors!
One of the most New Mexican things I have seen in a good minute.
seriously, or a Southern Utah thing
This is awesome
Such a special moment and they really liked it when you were talking to them.
What a good dinosaur, such a good little dinosaur!
That roadrunner came by just to show off the hawk moth he caught. 😂
beautiful little dinosaurs
Thank you
Teeny tiny dinosaurs!
You are very lucky ! Those beautiful and enigmatic birds trust on you.
SUPER cute! meepmeep :)
We live in New Mexico and have a couple roadrunners that regularly visit for a treat. They actually make different sounds. If one of the birds sees me in the back yard, he will come running and make a meep meep sound with each step like he's saying "hello". They also make clicking sounds and will let out a puff of air at times. Before we lost our dog one roadrunner would wait for her to come out, let the dog chase him and fly up onto the shed roof and make clicking sounds like "ha ha you lose again"! One winter one roosted overnight in a rolled up awning every night and be gone at daybreak. When I'd let the dog out after dark I'd tell her to be quiet and let Rodney sleep. She never disturbed him. Come spring I expected to have a mess to clean but there wasn't a dropping on the awning, and I never found any poop on the cement. They are great neighbors.
What a wonderful comment. Thanks for sharing!
Born/raised in Yerington Nevada. Wait till the scorpions train you! Wake up, shake out boots. State flower? Sagebrush.
Just have a black light on when you go to the bathroom and you can spot them .....lol
We had roadrunners and armadillos in our yard in Texas.
Wow, they are really pretty birds up close. I like the stripe by their eyes. Their mannerisms make them fun to watch too. I like when they were bowing to each other and how they twiddle their tails. I had no idea that they actually kill rattlesnakes too, very brave and fast. Great video, that would be fun having them around.
Thank you. They are neat birds.
I love roadrunners! I've seen them here in California since I was a kid and I get the same pleasure watching them all these years later as I did the first time.
Beautiful creatures. Love their individual personalities. lol
After living in southern California for forty years, only seen one once or twice.
@@norwegianblue2017I've seen up to six at once around the base of the hills behind Palomar College.
Very cool 😎 thanks
Glad you enjoyed them
" *MEEP MEEP* "
thought those things where only in cartoons ..really good to see them in real life .thank you terrific
Magical.
I haven’t seen a single road runner here in North Texas!😤. The last time I had a sighting was when I lived in NM. Quails and road runners are everywhere there. Never thought I’d say that I miss them.
We have them in Granbury
When I moved to Albq some 20+ years ago, there were lots of quail in my neighborhood. But now the quail are gone. Don't know, but maybe the coyotes got them. Still lots of roadrunners around though. They're in my yard every day.
Las Cruces , N.M. I've lived here since 1955.
You are fortunate to have such visitors. A most handsome bird species, and unique. The ones i saw downrange whilst working at KAFB took small, short duration flights interspersed with running. Very cool to watch.
Thank you. They are soo beautiful!!!
Ok... that's crazy for one. Two... its pretty freaking awesome. They obviously feel safe there. My advice... dont try and take it much further. Hand feeding them... amazing but I would limit it. Just having them that close, not sure many people can say the same.
Love these birds. I remember feeding them orange slices in Anza Borrego.
Gorgeous birds. ❤
I enjoyed that thanks....upstate NY ( mountains and farms not people/subways) love the outdoors and we have all kinds of animals in the wild,it was great to see your runners on your deck ! Thanks again.
nice video, looks like Santa Fe, NM...thank you for uploading, beautiful creatures
Thank you. Rio Rancho

What beautiful state is this? I love the desert! Beautiful roadrunner!🌟♥️🌟
New Mexico
A state of mind :)
@@ThePrairieChronicles Estimation of location please. Thank you
@@Special-Delivery57 New Mexico is a beautiful place. I consider it a state of mind as well as a U.S. state.
All the south-west is a beautiful place. 😍
@@ThePrairieChronicles It’s the main location I’ve decided to move to next. Thank you
Absolutely amazing
So awesome!
Welfare birds.
Just kidding.
I love these guys. I'm in Arizona, and believe they should be our state bird. No diss to the cactus wren - also very
cool - but still.
That is so awesome! I've been watching a pair in my yard. I have figured out where their nest might be. I just love them! It seems to me the male is pretty hen picked. They are so much fun to watch! I read somewhere that they mate for life, I so hope that is true. And I so badly want to see a baby one. Thanks for sharing your video, I enjoyed it so much
So cool! We have a resident runner too, but he stays pretty incognito in the brush most of the time. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing!
This is incredible. We just built our first house and have two roadrunners outside. I would just lose my mind if they would eat out of my hands! How cool!
Pet Velociraptor :P
That was great, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed them.
Wow that is amazing, my wife and i love road runners so much, coolest birds ever

Hello, it is really interesting and beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you
@@angelahulslander3235 🙏🌹
That is very cool!! Thanks for posting.
Thanks for a view of the roadrunners. We have similar birds that share our neighborhood. We call them magpies. They are just as beautiful. There is a pair nesting in a spruce tree next door. If I start feeding them, I might end up with a huge flock in no time at all. Cheers.
This is so cool! I'm jealous.
That's awesome.
Sooo cool! 😁🐦👍
That's friggin cool! I live in SoCal in an area where there are Roadrunners, cool looking birds for sure!
I know i proly shouldn't but i really want one, they are such a cool looking bird
All I could think about are these words but are they really words. MEEP!!! MEEP!!! When I see a roadrunner.
Meep meep that real
They are indeed the living velociraptor 😁
Roadrunners are pretty darn cool, I don't know about the sound effects lmao
Nice birds, I want a pet like this too!
So very cool
It s very cute this beep beep.
CUTE
Do you guys think these amazing birds could survive in Australia or Africa
To be honest, I don't know. Possibly Australia. Not so sure about Africa.
@Angela Hulslander
Well, in Australia, roadrunners could feast on small mammals, lizards, and insects, and it has a similar climate and habitat to the deserts of America
In Africa, there are open grasslands and hot deserts, although roadrunners would have to keep an eye out for the native predators such as lions and hyenas, and they would have to be careful about native African herbivores such as elephants or buffaloes
IN CONCLUSION = Roadrunners could learn to adapt to the continent of Africa and probably thrive in Australia
I hand feed my squirrels I Camille them and they come running to me love nature.
A living dinosaur. Good post thanks.
Nice video, I’ve never seen one so close and “live” with the head stripes…thanks☺️
Thanks for watching!
