- Living in the dessert is not easy, by 11 am temperatures are already a scorching 40 degrees celsius and by that time, most prey are hiding from the sun. Can this roadrunner find something to eat before it's too late?

Seven Worlds One Planet (2019)
Millions of years ago incredible forces ripped apart the Earth's crust creating seven extraordinary continents. One Planet: Seven Worlds, presented by Sir David Attenborough, will reveal how each distinct continent has shaped the unique animal life found there.
Welcome to BBC EARTH! The world is an amazing place full of stories, beauty and natural wonder. Here you'll find 50 years worth of entertaining and thought-provoking natural history content. Dramatic, rare, and exclusive, nature doesn't get more exciting than this.
This is a commercial page from BBC Studios. Service information and feedback: bbcworldwide.com/vod-feedback-... - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
Props to BBC for not only having the greatest narrator but apparently also the most talented nature filmmakers. The quality is unbelievable.
I live in southern Arizona, and film wildlife as a hobby. Doing it at this level requires talent for sure, but also lots of time and money. This is a team effort, and the BBC nature doc team is likely the best in the world . . . and then there's David Attenborough!
Amen and Amen. 👏
I happen to like sir attenborough's style. He is iconic.
@@maureensurdez7841 A national treasure for sure. Likely loved nearly as much as QEII.
They are the pinnacle of doc makers !
Video: Shows a road runner hunting
My brain: meep meep
I can't tell you how disappointed I was as a kid when I found out roadrunners weren't blue, 6 feet tall, or fast enough to lift up the pavement when they ran.
... and they didn't really use ACME anvils. :(
I was looking for the dark brown coyotes but never saw any. Toasty grey is as close as they got.
Also, I didn't see the cartoon Roadrunner ever actually use an anvil. Only Wile. E
@@michaelb.42112 to be fair, many people outside Southwestern region of United states even thinking if roadrunner is just fictional cartoon species (yes even this including folk from United States) , thanks for Looney Tunes depiction
It's understandable to feel disappointed when childhood fantasies don't match up with reality. However, the real-life roadrunner may not be as exaggerated as its cartoon counterpart, but it still possesses impressive speed and agility. The beauty of nature lies in its ability to surprise and captivate us in unexpected ways.
Why are you frustrated by that? they can carry many different things
Roadrunners are your friend if like me, you live in the Sonoran desert. They hunt and eat rattlesnakes and wood scorpions. They patrol side and front yards in many portions of the plentiful HOAs near
Phoenix.
They're a shy bird that needs to be admired from a distance.
also prey on rodents and lizards
Meep meep! 😋😋😋
((anvil noise))
UTSA!
One time, as a spoof, they should film the photographers getting these fantastic shots. David can narrate that too. They deserve recognition for the hard work they do.
The conclusion of most Attenborough documentaries are a short section that explains some of the videography process.
The Roadrunner is such an amazing animal it's a true force of nature.
It's a beautiful creature, but watching this as a lizard owner, I'm afraid I was rooting for its' prey most of the time lol
so cool there's still little dinosaurs roaming around
Yeah. That's more or less exactly what they must've looked like. At least the bipedal predatory ones. It's amazing to see it like that.
I grew up in Texas and roadrunners were a fairly common sight but always a treat to watch. They can fly but strongly prefer to run, and they are good at it. Birds are, as he said, descendants of dinosaurs, but certain species make it easy to imagine those dinosaurian ancestors moving about their living world before the end-Cretaceous extinction. Cassowaries, with their size and killing claws, and roadrunners, with their effortless running pace, alert search for prey, graceful leaps, and that long, balancing tail.
Birds are not descended from dinosaurs. They are present day dinosaurs.
@@Caracajouwrong, birds are not sauropods
@@isupportthecurrentthing5225 not all dinosaurs are sauropods
Correct, birds are theropods@@isupportthecurrentthing5225
And Hoatzins are almost a picture perfect copy of the microraptor.
Hard to imagine learning about nature without David’s iconic voice
I agree, I just hope people respect his legacy and don't use some dystopian AI voiceover to attempt to replicate him. 😩
Oh wow that 4 minutes and 20 seconds breezed by so fast. I was so entertained by the legend David Attenborough. I need at least an hour segment of this.
The Roadrunner is a fascinating bird known for its incredible speed and agility. Watching it race against time is truly mesmerizing, and it serves as a reminder of the beauty and grace of the natural world.
A reminder of Allah's power and the beauty of His creatures{On the earth are signs for those of assured FaithAs also in your own selves: Will ye not then see}《51:20,21》
Roadrunner is the State bird of New Mexico and I have one that lives in the neighborhood he comes around the backyard 😁 his so cool 😎
Not only in deserts. Texas hill country, around DFW. We used to see them all the time.
Yep...not confined to deserts, but they favor arid landscapes. They are in Central California...the Greater Roadrunner anyway.,
That's legit a velociraptor xD
In a park across the river from Ozark Arkansas I watched a mother teaching her two young to hunt. She took one while the other stayed with dad in taller grass, watching. Mom caught a grasshopper and crushed it enough to make it easy to catch but still moving. Then they switched over to the other baby and repeat. Never witness anything like that.
I live in SE Oklahoma, not the Desert, and we have Roadrunners. Love them :)
There Roadrunners In Oklahoma
Poetic narration, talented film producers 👌 top notch production and thank you BBC
RoadRunners are mesmerizinglly spectacular Birds !!!
Hope one day BBC Will make a full series or special about them !!
They’re my favs when I lived in AZ. Always a treat to see them running around the yard. Would’ve liked to spot a burrowing owl in the wild too.
Absolutely!
@@masterimbecile Must be an awesome sight to spot on location !!!
@@pedrord19 they are super cute! Their running reminds me of the velociraptors in Jurassic Park. They’re most striking when they fly though; haven’t seen that in the wild yet.
They are admirable because only the toughest animals can survive in the desert. Is a very hostile and contentious environment.
Just hearing Sir David's voice calms me, and then I get to see gorgeous photography and learn something. Meep Meep...
this bird has the exact same attitude of the cartoon roadrunner, pretty cool.
That rabbit is having none of the roadrunner's shit.
I think it was a hare and not a rabbit.
That's a hare not a rabbit
Anybody notice how David Attenborough, the music and the environment make this seem like a game of hide and seek or a road trip when it’s actually a evolved velociraptor fighting for survival?
Well a Roadrunners a carnivore. I did not know that. You learn something new everyday
Most birds are. Omnivores, actually. My parakeets ate bacon....
Imagine if Sir David Attenborough narrated the Looney Tunes Roadrunner cartoons. 😁❤️
If Sir David been the voice of "Wile E. Coyote: Super Genius", Bugs Bunny would have figured the coyote really was too smart for him and surrendered.
(Wile. E crashes to the ground from several feet and crawls out of the crater)
"Incredibly, the coyote has survived, but is now completely exhausted."
(Wile. E crawls over to a glass of water and pulls it, not remembering it's an explosive trap he set earlier UNTIL he sets it off)
"He realises his error too late."
(BANG!!)
@@JohnDrummondPhoto You're mixing your characters up.
@@v-town1980 no, I'm not. Wile E. did two "Super Genius" cartoons vs Bugs Bunny. In fact those are the ones in which he both speaks and presents Bugs a business card with his name. Look them up on UA-cam. All the cartoons with the Roadrunner, he's just a generic mute coyote with a Latin name like Ravenus Famishus or something.
I live in Tucson Arizona I see them all the time
Yes Arizona is peak roadrunner real estate 👌
I've seen my fair share of Roadrunners here in Southern Texas. It's not a common site as they're so fast and hard to spot but always a privilege watching these beautiful birds run and forage for their food. 😊
I always enjoyed your commentaries, and this video is a perfect example of your greatness.
Thanks for the video. I sometimes watch emu videos. They are funny birds, and are like giant roadrunners.
The horny toad digging itself into the sand was adorable.
We'd see roadrunners all the time when I was growing up in Southeast Colorado and we always loved it. Such funky little birds haha.
Beep Beep!!
I love this bird!
This documentary has something of a funny short movie because of the scenes of the roadrunner trying to get his food, the key is the music used. Thanks for making funny to learn about other animals of this amazing Planet
It's great to see documentaries that can educate and entertain at the same time. The clever use of music and humor in showcasing the roadrunner's pursuit of food in this documentary is a testament to the power of storytelling in making learning fun and enjoyable.
@@3winanimal I agree
Not just the deserts, they're moving out and around. There are roadrunners in Kansas now.
Meep meep!
They don’t just live in deserts, they live in forests too.
1:38 haha that shot looks familiar. The legacy of Mononykus lives on these beautiful and interesting birds.
thats a LIVING DINOSAUR
One thing that is in correct about this, is that the roadrunner is found in the north central Texas plains as well. My grandmother lived just south of the D/FW area, and there were both roadrunners and horned toads all over the place, and no desert, so that part is not correct.
Mbeep mbeep!!!!🐦🐦 ahhhhhh man I'm old 😒😏
J’ai reconnu Bip Bip 🤣🤣🤣
Où est coyote !!!?
I saw a couple of Greater Roadrunners a decade or so ago in the Panoche Valley (San Benito County?) in California.
Amazing video thank for sharing 😊
Beautiful desert with the roadrunner enjoying his meals.
1:17 You okay there, beardie?
Horned Lizards and Ants are mutually linked, as ants are their favorite prey.
Long live David!
Mad birdy
Interesting that the beginning shows Monument Valley in the far NE corner of Arizona, but the shots of roadrunner hunting are definitely southern Arizona and looks to me like the area between Phoenix and Tucson. Totally different landscapes! Here in Phoenix the urban roadrunners have a feast of bugs to eat and love to chase the locusts around parking lots.
Yes, great point about the locations.
a wonderful vid, narrated by a wonderful voice. i do really enjoy these bits. thank you bbc.
Roadrunners also live in the far western portions of Louisiana, some slight areas of southern Oklahoma..
and even the SW tip(s)/corners of Arkansas.
Love the voice of the narrator
This film is sensational!
Thank you BBC Earth for this amazing and entertaining video.
Beautiful video. Thank you.
Animals are so fascinating
Amazing footage and information 👍
I would like to see a full documentary about the roadrunner 🐾

Roadrunner just passed Bugs
That's a pretty good, but I'm pretty sure bugs is a cottontail, not a jackrabbit

Even a shoehorn?
Marvelous narrative by Sir David Attenborough pairing a dedicated director & crew!
yes they are beautiful kind of rare animals i just awe everytime i see one
He said, "The gilla monster is too big", but that's 100% incorrect. It just didn't have the energy for the fight, because Roadrunners that size routinely take down western rattlesnakes 5× the size of that gilla! There are plenty of videos on here to prove it.
Awesome~👍
Thank you for sharing this video~🤗
Thanks team for sharing us amazing vedios. Love it. ☺👍
Awesome
he really do be running doe
First roadrunner i ever saw was at a gas station in Arizona (where else?). It was eating bugs off number plates of the cars that had come in to get gas. I could barely believe my eyes!
I grew up in the southwest US so I'm very familiar with them and I have to say.. for living in the desert where almost nothing lives, bros are CONSTANTLY eating something lol 😅 they remind me of me lol 😂
Amazing 👍
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Thats a majestic bird (meep meep) but that hare is all ears !
I love how peaceful the desert seems. I know it’s blazing hot and it will kill me and all.. but I love the idea of just laying down in the sand amongst all those cacti and bushes.
You would NOT want to lay down in the desert, trust me 😅 I grew up in the southwest US and I think the desert is beautiful. It may seem peaceful but actually.. it is a very hostile environment, especially at night.. all the creepy crawlies come out. The ground is full of holes and rocks that live centipedes, scorpions, tarantulas, wasps, ants, snakes.. yeah you don't want to lay down in the desert 😅
@@chrisofstars Soooooooooo true!
safeysmith6720 Yeah? Wait until a scorpion or centipede crawls up your leg.😮
@@chrisofstars 😭😭😭 Thankfully you replied to set me straight! Much appreciated! Now I know.
They are small and brown but they actually do make meep meep😂😂
It’s insane to me how they’re up close with those animals and they not run off lol. The best animal videographers out there.
It’s CGI
@@zakrios7389 Proof?
@@tawnikitari they use robots and cameras hidden inside remote controlled birds or animals. They made an entire special about those disguised animal-like cameras
@@Summitic Roadrunners aren't very afraid of people. I visited a California State Park. It had a paved parking lot. I got out of the car and a roadrunner walked up to me, as if begging for food. I offered it 3 items, but it rejected them all. Then simply walked away.
@@rridderbusch518 congratulations, you met a gentleman roadrunner 😂🤣😅 next time invite the poor roadrunner for a drink 🍸 and a chat 😂😂
This isn’t only found in the deserts of North America we have road runners in East Texas and we are far from desert land with all the tall pine trees , oak trees etc and green grass we have no way we are considered a desert
Mini velociraptor
It's beautiful 💞
The beauty of nature I like the video
Дякую. 💖✌️💖
Фантастична казкова краса.
Вперше дізналась про такого птаха.
Funny animal, and good music
Very good photography ❤
These look like the perfect birds to set up traps straight out of Acme for.
Their eyes look so cool. Also interesting that they have zygodactyl feet similar to a parrot or a woodpecker.
Excellent to the power infinity
"Meep Meep!"
real life roadrunner: hoo hoo
the roadrunner we know: meep meep
I'm diggin dat slap-a-da-bassline score under this footage!
Always enjoying BBC videos, I wish someday i will be able to do this kind of videos.
That's some cool gimbal work by the videographer. He must be a pretty good road runner himself to run alongside the bird like that.
P.S. - is anyone else thinking of Bugs Bunny and the Roadrunner? Only Wile E. Coyote was missing.
Sehr schön 😎
What a dramatic show - to eat or not to eat!
