    I watched this video twice for two reasons. Sarah is great. And this is the best explanation of this concept I've come across (and supportive!). I'm in the struggle currently.

    Thank you sooo much!! This video is amazing! I've been struggling for a while with my throat as I've been signing mostly with constriction. Now that I start to practice retraction already my throat feels the difference! I cant thank you enough!

    What is so great about your teaching is you explain it short but clear then exercise then how to apply it to the song, just perfect. Most other just talk and talk, especially the older guys. Thanks.

    I didn't get it at all :-) Im always surprised how easy it seems for most people. So many lessons which people help and I keep on straining and tightening in the throat...

      It probably starts lower in your body. Scan your abs; are the tense? If so, then so are your tongue root and the muscles around your larynx. Aim for a sense of elasticity or stretch in your core, rather than a sense of tightness or control.

    Thank you so much Sarah! I’ve been working my way through your videos and they’ve been such incredible gifts to me. 💕It’s frustrating to me, because you’re the first teacher I’m hearing these techniques from. 😫

    I have this problem and I think this is a really interesting lesson, I don't fully understand how it works, it's sort of like magic but I think it's more of a mental thing for me it's a great thing to visualize. Thanks for a great video :) x

    widen E-W yes but not too deep in the throught and not with the vocal cords. That provocates bad tension

    I just discovered your videos (I was looking for videos about twang) and... that's really GREAT!
    I just have a question for you: Retraction and "open throat" concepts are they the same? It seems to be identical.
    Thank you!

    falsetto and retraction are they feel same. I mean I have constriction problem is falsetto slides are more helpful.

    • @SarahBrickel
      @SarahBrickel  7 років тому

      I know what you mean. Yes they both have that open feeling in the throat and falsetto needs that retraction. :-)

    Does it ache your throat when your first doing it or am I doing it wrong?

    • @SarahBrickel
      @SarahBrickel  8 місяців тому

      Hi, where does it ache and on which one the constriction or the retraction?

  • @emmalangmaid7838
    @emmalangmaid7838 3 роки тому

    Hi Sarah! I have a huge problem with this, and I'm trying to retract and just feel nothing, can you describe the feeling/where it is in more detail?

    • @SarahBrickel
      @SarahBrickel  3 роки тому

      It's more of a muscular feeling in the neck. The feeling when you start to yawn. Try flaring your nostrils as well. It just gives a bit more of an open feeling. It depend how retracted you are in your natural set up as to how big a change you may hear or feel I think too.

    .
    am i doing it right?

  • @mariabrown334
    @mariabrown334 6 років тому

    I Just can't tell the difference when I do it. It seems to me I am opening my mouth way to wide with no difference. Are Breathing through your diaphragm?

  • @mikehopkins4040
    @mikehopkins4040 3 роки тому

    You didnt say anything
    about the false vocal
    cords they cause retraction as well.A good way to find retraction is to bear down as if your on the
    toilet sounds daft but you get retraction.

    • @SarahBrickel
      @SarahBrickel  3 роки тому

      Do you mean constriction. Bearing down will definitely help you feel constriction 👍
