Your videos are absolutely amazing, Victoria! I'm very happy to have found them. I've noticed that I sing with a tight throat. Putting my fingers on the side of my throat has been an eye-opener and works every time ;). I will just have to practise so I won't need those fingers there all the time. Being able to sing for longer periods of time without throat tension has been a blessing and makes singing so much more fun. I can't thank you enough!
You can do it! It just takes awareness and proper practice. I look forward to hearing about your progress. Thank you for posting!
@@Victoria-Victorious Hi Victoria! I thought I'd follow up on my progress. I've noticed my throat isn't as tight anymore as before. I've been using the exercises from your 'open up the vowel' video and that has helped a lot! I don't have to hold my finger around my throat anymore to open it up. However, I'm currently struggling with sustaining higher notes for a long time, like in the song Falling by Harry styles, the line after the second chorus that ends on a G#3. Is there any video you have made you recommend watching to train my voice to sustain those higher notes?
Great to hear! As far as tensing up on the high notes, well, I cannot tell without seeing and hearing you. It could be anything from pushing up too much vocal weight (watch my videos on mixed voice), jaw tension, tongue tension, locking the breath, not enough support or all of the above! You could start with my video, Stop Straining on High Notes! 6 STEPS Right Here! ua-cam.com/video/vLukxe-dsKg/v-deo.html. That might help clarify some things!
Totally agree! What an awesome, life-changing tip!
I find sometimes I cough when I sing. Like my throat is catching.
when she said 41 years of studying voice my jaw DROPPED she doesn’t look a day over 30
You are funny but in a really nice way.
Thank you!! 😃 I like to make technique fun!
I agree. You are very engaging and authentic!
I laughed out loud at the mouthing part..😂😂😂..

I had no idea how uncomfortable singing was for me until I started watching your videos and realised, oh, if I don't squeeze everything, singing is actually easy and comfortable!
I'm an "only sing in the shower" person and novice to singing. Recently. I decided to work towards making my shower-singing sound decent ish. These exercises are awesome, helping me improve quickly. Thanks for sharing.
My high falsetto suddenly appeared right now because of this advise. Thank you!
I have a singing competition tomorrow and I searched this up because some days my throat is really tensed and others it isn’t and I don’t know how to control that and when it’s relaxed I’m hitting those notes really well. I just took this advice and immediately found myself able to sing at my best UNDER MY OWN control. Thank you so much
Whenever I start to sing or practice i feels tight around my throat quickly. It's really hard for me to relax my throat when I sing even though im singing notes that are comfortable. I'm literally watching you videos for like half an hour in a row now and you really are a great teacher. I hope I'll manage to sing strain freebone day haha.
First of all, it is GOOD that you notice this tension. That is the start! I would practice non-singing exercises like the spoken sirens in an easy part of your voice. Also humming. Do the exercises with the 3 fingers as I show in the video.
@@Victoria-Victorious awesome thank u!
Same problem here
@@xUnimportantx3 any update?
I have been a squeezer most of my singing life LOL! And it’s sometimes hard to unlearn but not impossible! My poor folds & muscles took a beating for years!
I love the humming but only recently learned there’s a difference between humming nasally or even just closed as opposed to on a “mmmmm” but with space in the back of the teeth. Victoria uses the “taller” visualization and I instantly yawn! That’s a good thing!
How I do it is almost like “ohhllmm” but no “oh”, just “mmmm”. Feels much more open (taller) especially in the back. My lips buzz. Supported core breathing is super important too.
It’s working wonders for me and the great thing is teachers like Victoria (and my personal/class teachers) give different methods to give us students the choice to see what works best. Keep at it! 👏🏻😃
When I'm sad i need your types of people who can make me laugh at 1 second btw i love to do YOUR exercises It's really helpful
Awww, thank you so much! Posts like yours make ME happy!
@@Victoria-Victorious most welcome😇
Your sense of humor is brilliant, your funny, to the point and a vocal wizard. The energy is on point 🪄 🙂
Thank you! I'm so happy to read this! 😊
Very interesting that the same technique applies in ballet! When jumping think down! It makes for lighter elevation. If you think “up” when you jump, the upper body strains. It’s so similar!!
Best advice. My throat hurts after a few songs. I will do these exercises often. I always sing with too much force.
Thank you for posting. Make sure to see my playlist on Throat Tension. If you need to work on your mixed voice so that you don't push, I have a playlist on that too,
you're the best! i'm so glad i came across your channel :D

The best❤!
Thank you so much! Thinking of studying jazz voice at university and I'm feeling much more confident after learning from your videos.
Thank you teacher
Omg your chorus anectode is exactly the situation Im in right now. Im 20 and just got accepted into a professional chorus. My father was a singer and hyper critical of anyones singing but his. I always wanted to sing but he made me so anxious about it which I think is a huge reason why my throat is so thight when I try. I will definitly be following your advice ❤
I thank God for finding your videos
Woah........I'm so happy having your vedios thanks a lot .I wish to meet you someday
You are awesome!
You are the best !
My Goodness!!! You are absolutely amazing ma'am. You teach it so easily. I absolutely love how funny you are too. You are a total package ma
Amazing!
oooh victoria love you love you love you
You’re amazing Victoria, glad I stumbled onto your channel. So much wisdom and the gift of communicating it. I started having problems singing, even though I’ve had proper training and the things I’ve been taught align with what you communicate.
I play guitar and sing for a living and sometimes I go through phases where I don’t realize I’m screwing up my vocal technique because I’m having to focus on the physical and mental challenges of doing two things at once. Sometimes the guitar parts are complicated In juxtaposition to the vocals, so keeping mindful about everything is a challenge. But luckily your voice is in my head now steadily coaching while play each tune, and it is helping immensely. 🙏
tip #2 is fantastic! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! It works every time!
I've watched many of your videos and I realize I do everything "too" much . Moderation is good.
You have also demonstrated every mistake I ever made and its fix.
Thank you
Thank you so much for all your valuable help, we really appreciate it 🌟💯🌞🤍
I absolutely love your videos. You remind me so much of my Nana who was a music teacher and also my piano teacher. Thank you for all the useful exercises and your uplifting energy!
How many are like me, I like even before I watch the video. Victoria never disappoints!
This video just literally changed my life. Honestly all of them. You are the best for teaching this. As someone who’s never gone to school for it and just recently started vocal lessons locally and been also watching your videos… it’s crazy to see how much has changed in my singing in such little time after knowing what should be happening with my body. 🤯 Thank you 🫶
This is real gooooooood! Thanks. I am now a fan!
Great!! I have a lot of other videos that can help you!
You remind me of my mom, the way you talk 🥰
Haha you’re stories are great! I love your energy and your videos are so helpful. Thank you!
Glad you like them!
thank you so much for your exercises! i've noticed my throat gets all tight wen singing, and these helped extremely! :)
You are AWESOME!!! Love your videos!!!
Thank you so much!!
Thank you so much. I have no words to describe how relieved I feel after trying all the exercises you mentioned in this video, especially after fingers on neck trick. Turns out, i have been experiencing all the things everything mentioned except for narrow tongue. Also the vocal decompression was phenomenal.
Thanks from Brussels, Belgium! You're both fun and interesting to watch! Very useful tips!
Glad you like them! Come back soon!
I love your videos. I sing in a choir and I have been using your videos to help develop my voice and give me confidence. I used to suffer with a tight voice because I would tense up. These exercises help me to relax my throat. Thank you very much.
Thank you! This helped me. You’re an amazing teacher.
Thank you for your wonderful comment! I’m so glad this helped!
Thank you so much! I go through all of the issues that you mentioned, when I am talking! I sound terrible!
I am applying all of these exercises to help relax and open up my speaking voice. Thank you so much. I can already tell a difference

Yes, just like me sometimes i felt so tighten in my neck while im singing mam. So here iam watching you and wanted to learn thru your teaching. You are amazing mam. Thank you ver much
This was such beneficial information. I'm just quitting smoking and gaining my voice back from my childhood of singing. This is really restoring my confidence in rebuilding my voice. Thank you so much Victoria!
Thank you so much!💖
You are so welcome!
deserves a pike and subscribe, thank you so much 😊
Can you do a video about what vocal damage might sound like, recovering from vocal damage and how to avoid doing it again?
I've been searching a lot of UA-cam vocal teachers and yours are my favorite 🥰 you really helped me thank you
You are very welcome! Thank you for your post!
I am so grateful for you imparting so much knowledge in such a beautiful way with humor, imagery, clarity, and encouragement.
You are so welcome. Thank you for your lovely post!
Okay this makes so much sense. I've been so tight after daily practice and not understanding why. I have tmj so my jaw always has tension it in and I tilt. Thank you for making me aware of this!
You got me on this one Victoria Victorius. I've been watching your "VIDEOS" all week (loving them) and practicing my youtube karaoke songs for a fun night tomorrow. My voice sounds a bit smoother as I go higher in pitch, but my throat or vocal chords feel strained or sore now even though the sound doesn't. I'm thinking the Squeeze?!
i tried the three fingers on the neck to help open up the throat,, and the sound that came out didn't even sound like me anymore, it was such a cool experience honestly. thank you for all the tips they work magic!
I am a 13 -14 year old boy and I kind of have a high voice and I am trying to use it .The first video you made really helped me , for example when you said not suck up to much air .😊
Sometimes even though I get the tips I still find myself struggling a little bit.especially when I am always feeling tension in my throat 😢
More people should know about you Victoria! Such a great teacher 🎵 ❤️✨
Thank you so much! Please feel free to share my videos with your singer friends! 😊
🤣🤣🤣 your so funny yet very informative thank you 😊
Dios mio gracias , Dios me la vendiga Victoria
These videos actually explain it in a way I understand. I have a hard time belting because of tension so this was nice!
Thank you. I have a playlist on the tight throat. I also have a video on belting. Make sure that you have good support when you belt. I have a playlist on breathing and support too.
You have a beautiful sound in the lower register Victoria!
Thank you!
Thank you
you are brilliant victoria, thank you so much, your straight forward information, no fluff and extra confusing stuff, this instantly helped me and ive only watched two videos. thank you !
ps your personality is so funny too haha
Thank you for your sweet post. Welcome to my channel!
I just had an aha! This is amazing. I watched your mouth formation and think I finally figured something out that I have been trying to understand for years!
Glad it was helpful! I have videos on the Mouth Shape for Singing!
Such a pleasant and pretty gal 🥰
I always thought my voice was just horrible and that I could never sing. A year ago however I started singing to myself everywhere (with a veery tense voice). I was having fun and I realized I wanted to sing more and more as time went on. One day one of my friends told me "I don't think your voice is bad y'know" and that's when I realized I could improve a lot with enough practice. I found your youtube channel and wathcing your videos, I now realize that all of these enemies of the singer are with me to a great extent and if I manage to destroy them I can be a great (or at least good enough) singer. Thank you for the amazing content!
I do have a question though, does me being a teenager of age 17 have anything to do with this sort of, gnarly tone to my voice?
I’m starting to get really serious about music in the hopes of having a music career. I love music and singing so much but I always have a tight throat when I sing. Thank you for helping out with this video!! You’re so funny and I love you!!
what kind of genres are you going to do? i'd support you!
Omg hi!!! I'm so sorry I don't know how I missed your comment! In terms of having a music career though I was thinking about mixing a lot of different genres like r&b, soul, possibly some pop or rock!!! Tysm for already being supportive, you're so sweet! Are you a singer/artist too?@@acrux739
I see you every day Victoria
Oh, that is so nice! Thank you!

@@Victoria-Victorious Wow! Gracias a Tí & U the best Ever trust me! 💛🤗😊🙏🎵🎶🎼🎹🥁🎸🎤🎧🎉🎊
this is such great and helpful information i have to take it in chunks and work on each of the habits because the result of my previous years of singing for pleasure with no techincal information i very much experienced all of the suffering from strain and knew i wasn't doing something right!
I really appreciate your efforts here so I wanted you to know i make sure to play all of the ads all the way through instead of skipping, liked, subscribed and comment.. i hope that benefits you in exchange for sharing all of your knowledge with us!
I sing a lot of regina spektor (listen to her if you haven't shes AMAZING) but her range is so fun and beautiful
Thank you so much! That is very sweet of you. I'm happy that my videos can help you!
Hi Victoria, Thanks for your great advice. I've been singing over 40 yrs. Never warmed up until about 3 years ago. Well, of course, I'm paying the price now. I stopped singing for the past 2 years but I want to get back into it professionally and have been working on my voice. The doctors advised that I go to a voice teacher and and speech therapist. I've been to a speech therapist and I do vocal exercises like yours. She encouraged me to work with a straw and work with a vocal coach...) My main problem is that I need to clear my throat often (while I sing) Sometimes I have to cough. I crack too. (I have been diagnosed by specialists and I've been told that I have "habit" cough and my vocal cords don't close completely at one end. I believe it may be a type of vocal cord paralysis although the doc did not use that word) I think I've improved a little but of course, this is a big issue when I sing "live". Can you advice me? I have searched your UA-cams and haven't found anything like this exactly. But I'd love to get your professional advice. Or, is it too late for me?? Thank you!!
I just love your pistol teaching method!!! 😝😜👍🥰
Dear Victoria,
I came across your website by luck and started watching your videos. You are amazing and I love your sense of humor! I’m never bored. I’ve probably been singing professionally as long as you, but went towards opera. You videos have helped me with a few perks that have come in with my singing that I hadn’t thought about. Thank you so much!
Hi, Margaret! I know you! We met many years ago but I’m sure you don’t remember me. I was a regular in Marcie Stapp’s weekly group! Great to bump into you here!
@@Victoria-Victorious Wow! Small world! So happy to meet up with you again! You are amazing!
I play a Japanese bamboo flute (the shakuhachi). I used these techniques because I'm tensing my throat while playing my flute. I get throat sounds, and my teacher can tell it's affecting my tone. I sang octave slides enough to hear and feel the difference between when I was tensing and not tensing. Then I tried to mimic the feeling of not tensing when playing my flute. I alternated between singing slides and playing octave jumps on my flute. Sing, play, sing, play. This made a huge difference in my tone, I had no throat sounds, and now I think I can actually tell when I'm tensing. Thank you so much! Before your video, I was struggling with not being able to achieve the body awareness to not tense while playing. Now I think playing without tensing is achievable if I continue to retrain myself with your exercises.
You are amasing, i love you miss Victoria,i can sing now..❤
Awww, your post makes me so happy!
Thank you so much
You're most welcome!
I was hurting myself before with poor advice in other videos. Thank you
I’m glad that I can help you!
