- Registering its first burial in 1867, Anaheim Cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in Southern California still in operation. Come walk with me and meet some of the pioneers who built the city that would become known the world over as the home of Disneyland.
This Chanel is easily one of my favorites on UA-cam. Factual information, great story telling and a calm soothing voice!
I can't thank you enough for your very kind words! I'm very glad to have you here. All the best to you... :)
Agreed!!!
Great exploration. I could listen to your soothing voice all day
I do this regularly- when he comes out with a new one, I'm going to make a cake and invite my family over.
Thanks Matt, happy Friday!!!
Thanks for posting this video. I live in Anaheim and did not know we had a cemetary i appreciate your respectful tone towards the cemetary and its residents.
Thank you Brenda. Finding Anaheim Cemetery was like fate, it's a special place, one that I often visit.
Iam from the UK it struck me how well kept this cemetery is we have a grave in our town that is the grave of luitenant Arthur brown who crashed his Thunderbolt saving our town and it occupants he was American god bless him we look after his resting place
Hi, Norma, thank you so much for sharing your story. And thank you to all the people of your town who care for Lt. Brown's resting place.
Grave Explorations we even have a road named after him we are very proud of this brave young man
I was just reading about Lt. Brown and was especially touched by how wonderfully your community has honored his memory. It must've been a great comfort to his family to know that he is in such a beautiful, and loving place as your town.
Grave Explorations his family come over every so many years it was so very sad the area were his plane went down was quick sand so the plane is still in the quick sand as it could not be retrieved
It's a dream of mine to one day take Grave Explorations to the UK. If it should ever happen, I would love to go to your town and document this very touching story. Thank you again for sharing it. I wish you and yours all the best.
Thank you so much for sharing your historic informative video. I feel from the poorest to the richest were buried in a Christian like a manner. Such a peaceful cemetery.
You're very welcome, thank you for commenting.
Its very sad on how so many of these graves have been forgotten.
Thank you for taking the time to comment on my video. And when I visit these old graves I often wonder how long it's been since a family member or someone who knew the person was there.
you bring something special not only to these long lost people/hero's but to us who would of never known the beautiful back ground stories to some of the history of our beautiful Country. Oh how so many people have forgotten the back bone to who we are...you make us remember.!!! Just adore your channel and wish you could be brighter then youtube... Thank you for your time and commitment !!
Excellent historical narrative, very professional - thanks so much for the work very interesting to watch.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to leave such a nice comment :)
When I watch these videos I feel better knowing Im not the only one who enjoys and respects cemeteries.
You do an amazing job of weaving history and the deceased in the graves they occupy. I just started watching your videos. The narration show so much respect for the dead.
Thank you for your very kind words and for taking the time watch my videos. I've always felt there's a lot more to cemeteries than ghost stories.
I really enjoy your videos. Gad I'm not the only one that likes cemeteries!
Thank you for watching.... and I used to think I was the only one who liked them too.
I think that we really like the trove of information from these cemeteries that is so very interesting than just the cemeteries! Awesome research!!
7:43 you sure got that right. My friend died in her sleep and was buried here in 2011. She was only 44 and from one of the original German families.
The old cemeteries remind me of European cemeteries.
You're right, I think there was something of the European style in older cemeteries. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I had no idea the cemetery was even there!
I’ve eaten at The Original Pancake house on Lincoln Ave for decades only to find out here that the original entrance was on the opposite side of the street before it was relocated to Sycamore on the north side.
Seeing the War graves makes me wish I could afford to go to where my Uncle Sapper (Canadian Engineer) Robert Charles Dionne is buried in the Netherlands, specifically Bergen Op Zoom Canadian War Cemetery. I have my grandfather Raymond William Dionne who served Canada not once but TWICE and my uncles Raymond James and Ronald Norris Dionne buried here in Canada where I can go visit but uncle Robert Charles--he's out of my reach except on Google Earth but I can't find his grave using that.
I did a search of your uncle on the Find A Grave website: www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=dionne&GSiman=1&GScid=2159082&GRid=12724208&
I didn't even know that site existed, very useful so I just did a search for my Oma on there, she passed away in 2012
Wooow i live in bergen op zoom!!! If i can help let me know!!!
I have visited the Cemetery, I hope LVM can help you find your uncle x
Graves of little babies always upset me, maybe it's because my mom lost her first born son at 7 days old from intestinal strangulation then lost her second born son at age 7 when he drowned. I hope they're both Resting In Peace with my dad.
My deepest condolences to your and your family. And yes, the graves of the very young are always the saddest of all.
Nice video! I had to walk pass this cemetery everyday to get to school, so peaceful
In Germany if you are buried in a paupers grave you do not get a headstone. It is like you do not exist. My mother knows where her boyfriend is buried because she asked but they are not really allowed to tell you.
please do a video on Wilmington, CA cemetary, est 1857.
Two possibly three generations after we die and we are all forgot about, life is funny like that.
So beautifully done. Thankyou.
Thank you for your very kind words. :)
We all eventually fade away to forgotten corners of pasture, to sleep the great sleep.
Thank you for sharing these stories. Thank you for reading the names out loud so the heavens and the earth will remember them.
I love watching your videos as many others, your narration & historical informations are awesome, as someone here said you weave the stories of these buried in cemeteries into your video bringing history alive but sometimes it almost make feels as if we know them in history & in life. Your respect not only for the dead but for the history of the past is truly wonderful! You have a special gift Matt I hope you never stop your videos there are so many of us & more coming who love your videos. Looking forward to many more!😎❤️🙏
Thank you. More stories are on the way, stay tuned :)
Wow. I walk by there all the time!! I never knew !
yes I live very very close to the cemetery
I used to live a block away....I liked this cemetery
It last a long history in the city... a very special place. Thank you for commenting :)
Beautiful Video 👍🌹🙏
Seeing I'm a newbie and catching up on your past videos this was awesome, love the back stories takes alot of time researching the names on the headstones. I do genealogy not just for myself but other people as well, love the hunt (I'm basically nosey anyway 😀) and just charge them for postage.
So thanks for all you do for a very interesting and informative regarding the Cemeteries.
Thank you for watching and commenting. It's great that you help others connect with their heritage, keep up the great work. All the best! :)
I live in front of that cemetery
A lot of that surrounding property where you live used to belong to a farmer and Civil War veteran named Erwin Barr (I hope I have the name right). He also donated the plots where William Crandall and the other are buried.
Very well done. So very interesting.
Thank you very much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! :)
i love yr videos i have always been very interested on cementaries thank u
Thank you for your very nice words, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. All the best to you! :)
IN CARROLLTON ,MO IS A CEMETERY WITH PIONEERS THAT STARTED THAT COUNTY ...NAMED CARY CEMETERY..I WISH I COULD GO CLEAN IT UP AND FIX THE HEAD STONES. REALLY FINE FOLKS THERE MEN SERVED THEIR COUNTRY LOVED THE LORD..THEY WERE MOMS' FOLKS GO TO 1790S'.
I finally visited yesterday while we waited for our table at Original Pancake House nearby. I wish the old entrance were still there as it’s directly across the street. Now you have to walk all the away around to the Sycamore entrance.
Lincoln Ave used to be called Center Street. When Anaheim was founded, it was bounded by North, South, East, and West Streets with Central (now Lincoln) bisecting it. The cemetery was outside the city as it lies east of East street.
I LOVE HISTORY I REMEMBER AMERICA BEFORE 1960S' ..STORES WERE CLOSED ON SUNDAYS ...LADIES ALWAYS WENT OUT IN DRESSES,HATS,GLOVES, AMERICA HAD IMMIGRANTS VTHAT CAME TO MAKE IT A BETTER PLACE..BUT I LOVE THESE STORIES OF PIONEERS.
I love these videos! Can I suggest you do one on Fairhaven and Santa Ana cemetery next? Or the Yorba Cemetery?
Jack Skinner died the day my mother was born.
With every ending comes a new beginning. Thank you for watching and commenting :)
Another great video from you. Well done!
awesome interesting videos!!!
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
The beautiful black and white stills used in this video are striking. That is intuitive editing at its best
Love your videos, but do wish you would show the tombstones a bit longer so they could be read.
Thank you for watching, I will try to hold those shots a bit longer in the future. :)
I think if you ever get the chance to come over to the uk, and research the place Norma talks of you would fill one video!
We have a number of similar places scattered all over the uk, and a number are close to the air bases occupied by US servicemen during the last war. Cambridge American cemetery is one place you may be interested in. You can "Google" it to see what I mean,
Best wishes Helen in Norfolk Uk.
Thank you for commenting! I would LOVE to see the UK, it's on my bucket list. Cambridge American Cemetery looks amazing, such a beautiful resting place.
Helen Cheadle Does anyone know where actor Sir Christopher Lee is buried?
Your music selection is apt.
"....When all we seek we leave at home..." What did we leave at home? Our youth. Another excellent video. Thanks.
Don't know why, but suddenly the "Grave Explorations" emblem is in the middle of the vids.
Am outstanding wordsmith.....a truly wonderful gift you give to the departed!!!
The piano needs tuning.

I've got to tell you that your work is better than a lot of professional documentaries!!! You do such a wonderful job of researching and your narration is nothing short of impressive. I'm totally hooked!
Thank you once again! I've got more content in the works right now and it should be uploaded soon.

thaddeus mcgrath Thank you for your kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. :)
Well done.
the title fits the video perfectly.
This is one of the very few videos that had a title before I started editing... :)
Excellent
I wonder if you've ever seen the small Brand Family Cemetery, in the foothills of Glendale. There's a remarkable pyramid there. I saw it as a young man when I lived nearby many years ago. Something about it has stayed with me ever since.
Thank you for commenting! I know what you mean about a place staying with you... it's happened to me more than once. I was looking up the Brand Family Cemetery; what a fascinating place with great stories surrounding it.
Given the subject matter of your channel, Colma must be calling your name.
Talk about a city of the dead! Yes, most definitely, I'm thinking late summer or fall. However, I think I would need about a month to cover it. Fortunately, I have family in the Bay Area.
You have your work cut out for you. I'll be watching. I live in the southern US now, and the cemeteries here are amazing. The history is everywhere.
Long before I started filming my cemetery visits I had the opportunity to explore a few in PA and NY. I would LOVE to get back East and the South at some point. The problem is I wouldn't know where to start. In a couple weeks I will be in the Midwest filming in several locations. If all goes well it should be a biggie. Stay tuned....
love your reviews
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
The Civil War wasn't about ending slavery, it was about states' rights. if keeping slavery would have won the war, Lincoln would have supported it. It wasn't a moral issue to him either way.
