    You’ve truly hit the ball out of the park with this series - excellent and very clear!
    I highly recommend setting a destination whenever on a long trip, and then watching the original percentage of battery projected over your travel. If it doesn’t change or increases, you’re good, but if it starts decreasing, you’ll need to reduce your speed.
    I’ve had several occasions where everything was going fine but then encountered strong headwinds (30-50mph) that required reducing speed by 10-15mph, and even then barely made it.

    This was super helpful! I have to say, of all the Tesla UA-camrs, I look forward to your videos the most. Maybe it’s because you’re a meteorologist and therefore grounded in facts and hard data. Maybe it’s also because you’re a TV weatherman and used to connecting directly with your audience. Or maybe it’s just because your impetus for buying a Tesla was the same as mine: it’s cool, yeah, but also a smart decision in the long run. Thanks, Mike.

    This is definitely the best explanation that I’ve seen about the Energy app on UA-cam hands down. However, what is confusing to most is the use of “power” vs “energy”. In the consumption tab, the graph actually shows the amount of power (Wh) and the Trip tab shows energy (kWh). A good way to think of it is Power is “effort” is required per unit of time (energy per unit of time) vs Energy which is total work done (the amount of kWh). Probably still confusing, which is commonly why “energy” and “power” are accepted to be used interchangeably. Love your channel, keep up the great work!

    • @tommckinney1489
      @tommckinney1489 3 роки тому

      That is confusing. 1000 wH = 1 kWh. So wH and kWh are the same measure, but differ by a factor of 1000. A watt is a unit of power and a watt-hour is a unit of energy. energyeducation.ca/encyclopedia/Energy_vs_power

    We have had our Y almost 5 weeks. During that time I got 95% of this figured out. If the use and understand the trip graph there should not be any range anxiety. These tools are brilliant and should be used and understood by all tesla drivers. Yesterday we made a 50 mile trip just to try a supercharger. It was a level 3. This experience was easier than pumping gas!! Open you charge port, hop out, put the plug in, get back in the car, tapped end charging. Hop out and disconnect charger. Get back in and drive away. Yes, that easy!!! The charging screen shows all pertinent data. Maybe another video??

    TL/DR: use the Trip tab graph w/ navigation to show Actual vs Projected charge at destination... both very accurate reflecting conditions & driving behavior. (This is one of the most under-appreciated features.)
    Energy tab is fun but bit useless, except the "Average" line/number on right which is closer to actual remaining miles. (Agreed the battery display should have option to show this not just EPA-rated miles!)
    Compare the actual/average curves if different than the projected/"EPA" lines, to see if you are using more or less energy than expected or rated.
    Well explained! Thanks!

    Wow, I learned a lot ! Now I need to practice using it before forgetting the training. Although a great video, one thing was missing. Mike should have warned everyone not to get distracted by this complex graph and data points. To examine it for more than a quick glance while driving requires pulling off the road and stopping vehicle. Be safe.
