Your kids are precious! How fortunate they are to have a dermatologist mom who can guide them to healthy skin choices throughout their entire childhood so they can make good choices as adults. Thanks for sharing affordable sunscreen choices.
I am really confused about the implication of chemical sunscreens being spread over a large surface area being a bad thing? Do you have studies that support your choice?
A small amount gets absorbed but it's negligible and there's no research suggesting that does any harm. She's mostly being extremely conservative and fear mongering.
If you're not aware already (I wasn't until recently), many "all-mineral" sunscreens contain butyloctyl salicylate, which functions similarly to octisalate, but is unregulated. This includes the coppertone baby, eucerin, sun bum, and cerave sunscreens shown in this video. LabMuffin's video called "How 'mineral' sunscreens are dodging laws" is a great overview of the issue. I personally have no issue with chemical filters, but if you're going out of your way to avoid chemical sunscreens, know that many mineral ones are using an unregulated ingredient that essentially functions like octisalate.
I became aware recently too, I reacted to 2 different "mineral" sunscreens recently and when i looked into the ingredients i realised they both contained butyloctyl salicylate as an inactive ingredient (and this wasn't even on the box or tube as only "active" ingredients are required to be declared). So frustrating because I know I can't tolerate octylsalicilate.
Do you have any info about salicylate allergy. Many claim to have an allergy to anything with salicylates in skin care ingredients. That includes Ingredients you have mentioned, plus many others. Do you think the claims have any merit? I am not sure what to believe. Thanks
@@Lilah1754I don't have a salicylate intolerance and I'm not too familiar with it, but in general you can become allergic to almost anything. So it doesn't seem too far fetched. I just find it unscrupulous that companies selling "mineral-only" sunscreens would use something unregulated that's essentially a chemical filter. Especially those that are marketing their product as "safer," when it's arguably less safe to use something unregulated than to use the ones that are approved and regulated/limited.
I'm looking for a sunscreen to apply for myself & my makeup clients that doesn't contain Zinc Oxide & Titanium Dioxide, because as I understand, those ingredients cause a "flashback/ white" effect when photos are taken with a flash. This is not ideal when photos are taken of your wedding day & your face looks like a ghost in the photos, due to the flashback the sunscreen's ingredients is causing. LOVE your videos!! They are so helpful & has taught me so much😍
Love the information. I took a picture of the products mentioned so when I'm out and about I will have the best list! Enjoy your spring break. Your kids are so cute!
I would like to see a try on! How it feels /looks on the skin matters. My kids hate certain textures, if it's sticky, ect. Physical sunscreens often look terrible when you put them on so I'm curious 😊
Just LOVE THE VIDEO!! Your kids are amazing ❤ thank you for sharing!! I really appreciate the help to let us know the best options we have to protect our skin!!
❤🎉omg your kids and you are the cutest 😊daughter is a natural in the spotlight lol …. Great vid and tips thx so much . I love keeping it simple with all my products too !! I like badger Spf and Aussie gold tinted Spf for face everyday .
Hi I want to thank you for this video because I'm always keeping an eye out for good sunscreens. I wanted to share that vanicream has a zinc oxide sunscreen that is free of fragrances and additives and is labeled for sensitive skin.
Dear Doctor Marine,Your kids are So So Adorable 🥰 ❤, I have missed listening to your episode because I was enjoying your kids.😃Blessings to everyone.🙏💐❤️Thank you so much for bringing your family too.❤
Your kids are awesome!! I was hoping to see what you liked and didn't like about some of the sunscreens that you picked up!! I need one for face that doesn't pill or sting my eyes. :(
I know that might be your personal preference and that's ok. I just would love some clarification of why not to use chemical sunscreen for the body. I personally prefer them since they feel and look better, especially for people with darker skin tones 🤷🏻♀️
Consumer Reports states that most of the mineral sunscreens they tested didn’t provide as much protection as chemical ones. How would you respond to this? I like the idea of mineral for several reasons but none of the reasons beats getting adequate protection.
I used your advice for adapalene treatment to solve my saddle sore issues. There's a whole cottage industry of chamois creams for cycling - can you help debunk any of these anti-chafing, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal claims? Also confirm use of retinols/products on the "bikini" line
Hello! I love your videos! Sorry if I've missed it, but do you have any videos specific to preventing or treating jowls? That always seems to be the one thing no one speaks about. Maybe because it can't be prevented?
I have severe contact dermatitis to formaldehyde and adjacent ingredients, like propylene glycol (which is just in everything). sunscreen is the hardest product for me to find formaldehyde free so I have to take what I can get. I just ordered some from paula's choice for my face, but finding a good product for the body is hard, and when I do find one it's usually chemical or comes in a tiny bottle.
This is just her personal individual choice for mineral sunscreens. There are no research that say we can't use chemical sunscreens for the whole body. I find this video very misleading, esp coming from a dermatologist. Many dermatologists out there recommend chemical sunscreens. I personally hate mineral sunscreens, cannot stand its whitecast, thick and dry texture. For kids, they don't care about those, but for adults, it's a no no....
I agree, her picking up a chemical sunscreen and saying “immediately no” but didn’t explain why really rubbed me the wrong way. I can respect the choice not to use them but as a Derm you shouldn’t be shaming them either.
Your children are ADORABLE 😍
Still a big fan , watching all her videos, honest, kind, and straight to the point . I appreciate her 🙏👍

@@ice_9er Thanks for reply. 👍
You make a very valid point,I wonder 🤔 why that ingredient was not regulated as a chemical active, maybe so they can just list it just as a solvent.
Adorable family & have fun! Thanks for the great information! 🥰

My biggest challenge is reaching my own back. I use coconut oil to get mineral sunscreen off by body.
Such a huge variety of products in the US
Your kiddos are so cute!!
Do you have a recommendation for face sunscreen for someone who has eczema and acne?
“We are not going to buy toys” my exact lines when I go to store with my kids. 😂😂😂😂
The cutest kids! You mentioned in a video to use a mild exfoliating wash. Most contain salicylic acid, which I am allergic to. What do you suggest?
