Thanks for editing and sharing...there is a lot of time ok this vid...there were no fish but whe you catch something you can share it...and it will be awsome!!!
Love the dogs reaction! Mine is scared of drones.lol cool video. Might try this next time I go fishing. Love the under water footage too. Definetly saw a fish chasing at 4:18
You got the right idea regarding the drone to take out bait. Do this instead. Put on a shark rig with a piece of cut bait and leave it out there. The problem with the current arrangement (among other things) is not knowing the species you are targeting, where in the water column your rig is and what bait will attract the species your targeting.
+Leonard Parker Yes! A shark rig is definitely on the list of things to try with this set up. I have seen videos of people catching big sharks off North Carolina using a kite to pull the bait out far enough. I wonder what I could catch off the Jersey shore. I was basically testing the arrangement in this video. I thought I could also target species like blackfish from the beach and use a multiple baited hook setup - almost like a mini longline. Thanks for the input Leonard Parker
I agree Leonard. Alot less energy and time than kayaking out baits. Not sure if the drone could carry larger cut baits and the weight needed to keep it out there. In Texas I paddle out baits, but use a brick on a lighter line tied directly to the hook. Heavy enough to keep large baits out there, breakaway line 20# or less to break away when something big grabs it. This idea interests me though.
+Survivor Diet you will have a weight issue with the shark rig. fortunately sharks come in relatively close chasing bait fish. when you drop a lot of line out. the line bow from the current becomes very strong. the the bait an lead added weight. something to think about.
Well, definitely if you try this great method in the Red Sear (Hurghada, etc) you will catch a lot of great fish! Especially if you go in a boat and go near the reefs where you can get giant GT and Tuna
mine touched the water one day thought i lost it but it returned home each time you fly it out there your heart is pounding "AM I GOING TO LOSE IT THIS TIME"
+YouOriginal I lost my Phantom 2 after it took a nose dive into the water. Fortunately I retrieved it and I was able to cash in on the insurance plan and then purchase the Phantom 3 - with minimal $ loss. But yes, every time I fly over the water I hold my breath. And I take extra care to make sure my firmware is updated and the home point is locked in.
+David Wood I got mine through Square Trade on Amazon. Instead of ordering from Amazon however, I called ST directly to set it up because I wanted to make sure to add "accidental damage protection" for the drone. The policy cost was about $120 for 3 years. Well worth it for such an item.
I hope you continue with this idea and really develop it into something big! The main issue I have with surfcasting is getting the lure/bait out far enough. I switched to kayak fishing but that can be a big hassle. Idk how much a mackeral weighs, but I'm sure a lot of drones could bring that out there.
I realize I am very late to this particular party, but I wanted to comment because this is the first drone video I have watched where someone used a trolling umbrella rig with the drone. I was just thinking about doing that today when I go back down to the Outer Banks in March. I just got my drone in November and used it once but now have added an electric reel to it and will cast about 700 yards out. I am going to try the umbrella rig, and rig with multiple soft lures and a rig with shrimp and sand fleas and see what I get on what. Hopefully something :) Will also try to catch some live bait up near the shore and use that from the drone.
brilliant thinking, the catch cam is a very nice touch. it would be nice to see what all you could catch with casts like that with good bait and proper rigging, the reel in is pretty cool since soo much line is out.
Nice! Where can I find details of this setup? What is the line length from the Phantom to where you connect it to the main line? and what is the releasable connector you are using?
What is your release mechanism? I tape a 6-8 inch piece of straightened out coat hanger to the landing strut on my P3A and bend a slight upward tilt in it. I thread the eye of the swivel at the line/leader junction over it and slide the swivel back to the strut. When I reach the spot I want to drop it, a hard stop and inertia swings the leader/bait/weight forward and off. Good video and good fishing to you.
+MrRaynemaker I think I may have seen your release mech while browsing - or someone using something similar. I think mine is much easier and more functional. I dangle a rope down about 20 ft from the drone with a downrigger release clip at the bottom. I clip in the fishing line and in order to release, all I have to do is lock up the bail on the reel and fly the drone away. The tension pops the release clip. The benefit to this method is that I can fly my drone out in any direction tilting and spinning (and filming) and it doesn't release the line until I lock up the tension. Make sense>? It's also very handy to hover the drone 20 ft in the air and simple clip in my fishing line at any point and fly it out. You can see this at some points in the video as it returns to home - the clip and rope come down from above before the drone. Good luck.
Survivor Diet I'll be casting out of crystal beach down in galveston texas. Any tips before I set out for my maiden voyage? I have the exact set up you do. I'm thinking if winds are more than 7mph I'm staying grounded
Set the rod in a rod holder and then go down wind and set up the Drone. The biggest caution is to not get the fishing line anywhere near the propellers. Good luck.
There is a very cheap drone on the market to get 300/400 to take the fishing line and return? The only end of the camera is to see and throw the plummet, can you advise me? Thanks a lot Eduardo
Fantastic demonstration, I have a drone, but honestly I can't fly with fishing line and a bait attached to it above the sea, any mistake I might lose the drone. What type of a reel and fishing line that you are using? Many thanks again for the informative tutorial, and thumb up.

They cost about $1000. You don't fly them in the wind. However, when it is windy it's amazing how well they handle it and how the computer compensates in all direction. In heavy wind the video can still be rock steady.

how do I set up everything to my drone and it not fall in ( I have a 450$ drone)
my drone is about $1000. i hear the Phantom 4 is even better now. cheaper drones may not be able to carry the weight as well.
Did you ever find out how much weight your Drone can carry?
How much weight can a drone lift? Can you carry out a nice size chunk of fish instead of the lures?
yes you could. It will lift about 10 oz without too much trouble
I'm planning on night shark fishing sometime this spring/summer with a big chunk of bluefish for bait.
I would like to see the video on that and see how it handles the weight.
