Hi Marie. To neatly finish off silicone take an old credit card and cut one end of it so that the corners become square instead of the usual rounded. Then snip a tiny corner off at 45°. Then when you’ve laid your silicone in the corner run this around and it will leave a nice 45° fillet all the way round wherever you’ve put the silicone and scrape off nice and cleanly all the excess. You can even cut different sized corners off to give different sized fillets.
a resin swirl tip from a surfboard builder: First create separate cups with the colors you want. Mix the epoxy, hardener, and pigment. Once you have a cup for each color, pour them both into a third cup and LIGHTLY, barely stir. Often times that third cup has clear epoxy in it, creating a swirl of clear and both colors. Then pour and watch the magic happen!
Ohhhhh my these are awesome!! I can’t wait to try these out when we move in and settle in, I can’t make anything at the moment due to no space or no room.... Once again thanks for sharing‼️💪🏻🙌🏻👌🏻
Hi, I very much enjoy your upbeat videos and creative ideas. I borrowed two of your ideas last Christmas and have come back this year for more. Happy holidays and a very Mery Christmas.
Interesting - just realised that I have some epoxy past its use-by date (structural) so I could experiment ... Thanks for another great video and inspiration ; your kitchen looks great by the way !
@@DIYMontreal I like the "Van Gogh" blanks as well. Coasters can be given all year around so maybe you'll find time one day to make a video in which you show us the perfect swirl.
Great video and neat project. I haven’t tried large amounts of epoxy for anything yet, just filling small holes or tears in wood. But the colors are great and your hex cutting jig looks quite useful.
Thank you so much for good content always. I have a question whenever I see people making coasters or dining tables with Epoxy mix. What about heat resistance is epoxy holds against hot beverages or dish of joy food? Please let me know. Thanks.

Hello my friend, Epoxy hexagonal cup made of wood is a great idea. I watched it curiously. You did good. Congratulations. Thank you for sharing.
You use a molded piece 4" by 18"; what is the dimension of your final coaster. What is the measurement you use for the jig setup to cut the coasters? I just made your adjustable jig! Kudos.
springbreak regrets 🤣👏🏻 Dirty dog Gold digger 🤣👏🏻👌🏻 Idk who came up with those names or why but boy o'boy, I'm sure glad they did. I'm definitely going to buy these just because of that. Best names ever!! And they do go with their respective colors 😐. Loved this project
really cool. just an idea, your "mistake" with the all epoxy coaster i think would have looked super cool with blue and green pigments and maybe a splash of yellow?silver/ may have looked like starry night
Nice Marie I haven't yet been able to work with epoxy yet maybe in my furture.I just got into bowl turning would like to do some epoxy work in bowl making hmmmm. But great job on your coasters they would be a nice Christmas gift.Is epoxy hard on your planer knives or touter bits? Your biggest fan :-)
That's a great question and my answer is.... I don't know. Like you, I would imagine it's hard one the knives, but I didn't notice any added resistance when cutting on the table saw or the planer, so maybe not. I wonder if it makes a difference that I planed and cut them after only 2 days of drying vs. say 7 days when the epoxy would be fully cured and harder.
I've never used other brands so it's hard to compare, but the fact alone that you don't need to use a blow torch or heat gun to pop the air bubbles after you pour (they clear up by themselves) is enough to make me want to use it. And it's made locally in Quebec, Canada!
i figure you could save that last short coaster by cutting it and adding epoxy then cleaning it up again, good accent for the last one. gold leaf, red, anything really haha no wood goes to waste these days
Yeah I guess I could have figured out a way to make a 4th one. For the blue ones I just made another small mold to make a single coasters and that worked out well.
I always enjoy a women's touch to a wood working project.
The set of coasters that is all epoxy still has an awesome design
I really love the ones with the blue epoxy. Don't beat yourself up with the all-epoxy coasters. I think those look great too.
Thanks! At least I learned from the experience. Will try not to swirl too early next time.
the walnut and white epoxy looks nice
Thanks, one of my favourites too.
Those all look great! I really dig the hexagon jig
Thanks! I need to come up with more cool builds to put this jig to use!
Those all epoxy coasters are on point!
Thanks!
Thank you so much for sharing your skills. I am new to woodworking and your videos are so clear and interesting. Keep going! Loving learning!
Wonderful job on the machine; the concept of making a set of coasters
from wood epoxy combination is appreciated; Thank you for the video.
Thank you!
I plan on going coaster crazy this winter and that sled would come in handy. Thanks for the great video.
Awesome, have fun!

Gotta build that hexagon jig - very nice! Alcohol is also a fast way to raise the grain before a final super-fine sanding.
Thanks! Never realized how much I would love this jig. Need to find more uses for it 😉
Great work. Epoxy turned out classy and not overdone!
Awesome thanks!
They look great! I like the white and walnut the best.
Thanks Bruce!

Very nice

I actually liked your epoxy-only ones :)

Wonderful video! I love your jig to make the coasters!! I'm learning working with epoxy, but i's kinda difficult!
Thanks! From my first experience, I see that epoxy takes practice! But as we know practice makes perfect :-)
I actually like the full epoxy ones. Maybe I’m weird ha
Excellent tutorial. Did you just apply one coat of Osmo? Did you sand after applying Osmo? Thanks!

Hello. First thing came to my mind, how is the saw blade responding to cutting epoxy.
Should I use cheep blade for cutting epoxy?
Cheers.
I can't say I saw any difference on the blade vs cutting wood.
@@DIYMontreal Perfect. Thank you very much.
you could make someone a cool business card holder out of that scrap coaster
Marie, did you keep the cast for the coasters are are they more of a one time use ?
What is the denatured alcohol for?
Random, but did you happen to do the cabinets for your kitchen (you mention a kitchen renovation). if so, could you do a video on that?

Hi, it looks very good, but I worry about it might break between the wood and resin part. Does anyone has a real longterm experience using these?
So far so good. The resin makes an incredibly strong bond.

How big is a coaster?
Did you cut the epoxy with the SawStop in bypass?
No, I cut in regular mode as I usually do. The thought never even crossed my mind, actually. Epoxy is like plastic so not likely to be conductive.
