Awesome tutorial man, thank you! I've been wanting to get into resin projects for a couple years but could never find anything small enough that I was comfortable with. Until now! Lol I'll give these a shot
This is an awesome starter project! I don't know if it's possible, but it would be helpful to give alternative tool advice on some of these items, since not everyone has the amazing tool arsenal that you have! I don't have a planer, but maybe something else could be used instead?
Great project. There are some excellent tips in the video. I'm currently working on a small table from a thick piece of 13x22x3.5" reclaimed cedar. I am going to put in a river channel with tinted epoxy. I have a few Kutzall shaping dishes like you, but I was thinking I would use a straight router bit with my compact plunge router to carve out the river channel. This way I could control the depth at precisely 1/8", so one pour would fill it (saving precious epoxy for more projects). I could work on the edges of the river with a flap disc or a dremel to make it look more natural/organic at the river's edge, before pouring.
Those are great...now I have ideas to make some of my own. I use General finish and get streaks...and after watching you I figured out I'm putting it on too thick.
Nice job Brandon and thanks for the straight-ahead DIY. I really want to get into epoxy projects and this is a great video to get me started. Keep up the great work!
Very impressive, well done. I am guessing that by using the polyurethane/oil finish, you can wipe of any spills off coffee, drinks etc.as opposed to say a danish oil/wax finish.
Nicely done, I am new to the woodwork and marketing things trying to get my stuff out there, loved the tips you gave in this video and these are great coasters!
Awesome project. Like many others I’m just getting started. Which Kutzall wheel would you recommend for this project - medium or coarse? Also I do not have a planer. Would a belt sander do the job? Is the goal just to even out the “humps”? ThNk you.
@@WalkersWoodworks , I made one it's on pine and our for drying. Unfortunately I don't have a planer so thinking of going with a flap sander. 😊Thank you so much for your guidance .
Would you mind to elaborate on the epoxy router flattening and chipout problem? I am only getting started but I do plan to flatten my pieces with a router I just ordered because a planer is definitely out of my price range atm.
@@WalkersWoodworks Heck, for something that small, you can get a nice flat surface ready for finish sanding with a careful epoxy pour and 60 grit sandpaper on a palm sander. The planer is nice, but absolutely not essential.
This is awesome. Thanks for the video. I am thinking of doing this with some walnut. It will be my first epoxy pour. Do i need to pour a layer of clear first in the groove and let it dry before doing the colored epoxy?
I want to put a center vein of a darker green epoxy in the center of a wooden cross. Total amount will be minimal. Can you advise what type of epoxy and pigment would work best for this? Area will be one half inch wide by three sixteenths deep,. Overall vein length of twenty four inches. Thanks
@@WalkersWoodworks Good to know! I use packaging tape every now and then, but my next project is a river epoxy desk and I was looking at something to do for the smaller pieces of scrap wood. This is perfect, thanks!
For the price it's not bad. I've since moved to Mirka Sanders and they are a whole other beast. So smooth and dust collection is insane. But they are also alot more money. I used the Bosch for quite awhile and it did good for me. Left less swirl marks than others but still some.

I like the way you make coasters better than any other Iv'e seen. Them are very nice.
Thanks so much!
These are sick! Happy to know resin is cool going through the planer - gotta try that next time!
Thank you! Ya for sure. Definitely cuts down on the time lol.
I really love the sanding-resin-without-facemask part. That is hardcore living on the edge!
Thanks for the video Brandon. I recently received a epoxy kit as a birthday present and I have found your tutorial very useful. 👍👍
I know this is an older video, but it is so informative. I appreciate you sharing with us. -Blessings
Glad you liked it!
Great video. Thanks for sharing!
These look amazing! Thank-you for showing us how the magic happens.
Thanks for watching!
Very Good !!! I will try this!!
Thanks for the video, double sided tape works well to hold down your wood pieces for sanding.
That's a good idea!

8:18 gave me a great idea for making a river mitered box. Thst looks like a miter box ready for glue up
Awesome! Good luck on it!

Thanks!!
Looks awesome!
Thanks so much!
What do you apply to the bottom of them so they don't slide around? Anything you recommend???
Can't say I've had that problem. 🤷♂️ but maybe an adhesive rubber pad.
These are great. How feasible do you think this is without a planer?
Anything is doable with some time and sanding lol.

You could probably just use a belt sander or something of the sort.
@@WalkersWoodworks I hadn't thought of that. Thanks! I look forward to watching all your other videos!! :)
What kind of wood did you use? The color is very beautiful
It's alder. Thank you!

Hi there great job what thickness wood do you use for the coaster
I used 4/4 wood. So it was basically 13/16"
Those are great...now I have ideas to make some of my own. I use General finish and get streaks...and after watching you I figured out I'm putting it on too thick.
+StArFuRyZz I've done the same thing! Thin coats is key. Sanding between coats.
Why do you sand down after carving your groove? Doesn't the epoxy cover those marks up? TY
Ya it does. I thought it would be more visible lol.
@@WalkersWoodworks Thank you. I'm new to all this, just starting out and learning.

Do you have to use oil and eurathane clear or can you use water based?
Nice job. Thanks for making the video

Would you mind to elaborate on the epoxy router flattening and chipout problem? I am only getting started but I do plan to flatten my pieces with a router I just ordered because a planer is definitely out of my price range atm.
Just get a good flattening bit, take very light passes and turn the speed on the bit down. Most bits have recommended speeds.
@@WalkersWoodworks thanks for the reply, I´ll keep that in mind
Well done.
Thank you!
Thanks for the Video
Nice project brother!! New sub here! Well explained, voice over and editing is on point👍

Hi, can you please tell me what bit this is? Thank you in advance.
What do you mean what bit?
Beautiful! What angle grinder do you use? I don't see a link.
I use the Dewalt now.
Hi, What’s the grinder wheel?
Thanks for sharing Brandon!
Thanks Oscar! I am going to try to do more videos.
Love them!
Thank you!!
Love this video and would like to see more
Thank you! I have more videos on my channel if you're interested.
Question for you. I don't have access l to a planer. Do you think I can pull it off with a 6"x9" sheet sander, if it's clamped down property?
All I can say is try it lol.

Nah just put the colored in.
These coasters turned out great and you’ve come a long way in the past 3 years. Have you tried to sell these on Etsy?
Thanks! I thought about it but I'm just so busy with other stuff I haven't done it yet lol.
What kind of wood are you using and what kind of grinder blade is that?
It's alder. There are links to the tools in the description.

The kind I have linked in the description will work great.
What did you use on the edge of the wood to stop the epoxy from flowing onto the table? Painters Tape/Frog Tape?
Yep! You can use either one. Or even packaging tape.

$75 a set

Damn fine work mate. Well done.

I’m curious too what you charge.
Is the sealer you put on them heat resistant or are these meant for cold drinks?
+heady70 I would say best for cold drinks but I have out coffee on them with no problems.
Can you use a blow torch on all resin types. ?
+Alex Young as far as I know, yes.
yes
Awesome work and vid man, subbed!

Hi Brandon, could you tell me how you like that Bosch sander. Lowe's has it on sale and I'm thinking of getting one. Thank you.

@@WalkersWoodworks Thank you for responding.
Good stuff boss!
+Jonathan Olson thank you!!
Really nice job and a great video. Any issues with the epoxy bleeding into the border?
Not with alder for some reason but more porous woods I would seal with clear epoxy first or penetrating epoxy
Great job on these. How long did you wait to plane? Just 24 hours until dry? Or did you wait for a full cure? Just poured mine today.
With the epoxy I used it was well cured in 24 hours.
How long of a drying/curing time did you wait before cutting on the saw?
I usually wait 24 hours.
Thanks
really nice . thanks for the share
+floyd Millar thanks for watching!!
How long did you wait for epoxy to dry before you cut them apart?
I always try to wait 24 hours
What grit/model Kutzall dish did you use? Looks like the "Extreme" coarse.
Yes that's the one. But I usually use the medium one now.
@@WalkersWoodworks Thanks!
I’m going to have to give these a try! Do you have a go-to thickness for coasters?
It's personal preference really. But I usually do 5/8-3/4"
Walkers Woodworks sounds good, thanks for the reply!
For sure! Thank you for watching!
So you do the second pour after 30 minutes?
I usually wait until it's still a little tacky but not gooey. If that makes sense lol.
Subbed! Great videos on your channel. Keep up the good work.
+Ryan Hendricks thank you! Much appreciated!
very good
Thank you!
I may have missed you saying it, but, what was the type of epoxy you used? Thanks
Ryan Niemer I use MAS FLAG Epoxy
How much dou sell them for?
