My little home ⚘smells like a yummy meditation spa when you come in. Candles bring ambiance, peace and soothing capabilities to your senses💕love your videos dear
I've just got some cheap supermarket candles and a Christmas present candle. I'm more for using nebulizing diffusers, but am giving candles a go and always had problems with tunnelling. I've seen videos where they recommend heating in an oven, but this looks a much safer option.
FYI from a candle maker: If you as the consumer have to do the aluminum foil method on the candle then the company is at fault. The wick size is not big enough to melt the entire diameter. You will have to continue to do it as you burn the candle down and that is not pretty/aesthetic at all. If you're paying for "luxury" it needs to be "luxury" quality ❤
I'm not into the candle scene like some of you here but I think I can assume we're all here for a similar reason. So I wanted to let you know that Yankee makes this lil metal decorative lid thing that you put on the top of your candle after you lite it an so long as you keep it on the there your candle will never tunnel. It basically does the same thing as the foil trick in the video but I guess it looks pretty an keeps it from ever starting
I stopped going to yankee candle because their quality has gone down. Also you shouldn’t need that accessory for your candle to burn evenly. Kringle candles have 2 wicks for that same reason that the wax for the size of the candle should have 2 wicks not one. Also Kringle candle was the original owners of yankee before they sold it to whoever owns it now. I Can tell you the quality and care of packaging is amazing. Try Kringle and you’ll never need to use that accessory and the aromas they offer is amazing!
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve burned candles since I was old enough to buy them and didn’t know about half of the details you address here! I’m a fan!
Great video. I followed everything in this (but with a different candle, probably not on par with this channel) and despite following all these tips, the tunneling is happening on the first burn. It has broken all the rules. It arrived today, and 3 hours into the first burn the puddle was nowhere near the edge. Almost five hours in (and the max burn recommended was four hours) and there is a clear tunnel wall. It’s a 3.5 inch diameter candle and five hours in, the surface is still not liquid. No dark soot and no mushrooming, but I don’t know whether to let it burn until the surface finally melts, or snuff it and get foil tomorrow to fix the tunneling. For reference, it’s a Sweet Water Decor Salt & Sea candle. I bought an Apotheke candle as well, but it has not arrived yet and I wanted to try this stuff you speak about. Thanks again.
Subscribed! Thank you so much. I learned a lot. Just got my first Diptyque candles (34 and Beries) and wanted to know how to care for them. Appreciate your content!
I have that exact candle in the background and I screwed it up one night because I was falling asleep and was paranoid about leaving it now. Gonna try the fix for the tunneling!
Somewhere I saw that candle wicks should be trimmed but no explanation was provided. Came to UA-cam and saw this video. Now I must watch more of your videos. Great content and very informative.
I knew some of these but not all. I just treated myself to the complete Cire Trudon Christmas collection and the l’eteignoir dipper this year so your video has hit my recommendations at the perfect time. Thanks.
OMG luv, you have me on their website now & I'm soo tempted to get them all as well! Right now they have the winter charms & Gabriel is sold out in all sizes but the smallest already, was that in the Christmas collection you got last year? How was it? Seems popular!
Thank you for such an informative video. I have been burning high-end candles for many years and fortunately very few of them have tunnelled. However, your tip regarding the aluminium is just amazing - never knew that and will certainly put into practice should it happen again. Would be interested to know what you do with all your empty vessels. I put mine into storage 🤣
WOW! Thank you so much, this vid is great and your tips are very helpfull. I'm just starting with candles, I always prefered essential oils, but now since I'm hooked I wanted to reserch the topic and your vids are the best I found. I love your voice :)
While it might not be glamorous, a little press 'n seal wrap over the top of a candle is the best way to help keep a candle's fragrance from off-gassing during storage. That is, if the candle doesn't come with a lid. I cut a square just big enough to seal the top and put them back in the box, as the box alone doesn't really provide much of a seal.
I've been burning candles for about a week, and DEFINIITELY adhere to setting a timer every time, right from the beginning. I DO extend the time if I see that the wax hasn't melted all the way to the edge in the timeframe of "1 hour per inch of diameter". I have a few that didn't cooperate and need to use the aluminum foil trick. I'm also considering a lamp-style warmer to handle this.
This is a cool channel and a very well niche that's needed!!! God ordained idea.! I may never buy a candle again after this and I love candles Lol. I had no idea of the"process" of candle lighting and burning. It's too much work after a long tired day of work.
Great video! As a new novice, this help explain why I have had issues in the past. I especially like the foil trick to help correct burn tunneling. I just tried this trick today and worked like a charm! Thank you!
Thank U so much I love a good sent candle, but Hate the soot it leaves on my walls N celling. What about putting the lid back on the jar to put out the flames.?
Thank you for the great info! Can I use the foil method for a tall , 4” candle that has the uneven burned edge…trying to lean in? It was in a tall hurricane candleholder..but did get a draft so now I’m not using it & would love to again. Thank you for any help.
I have a terrible time with my candles creating black soot on everything in my house. It doesn’t wash off some things and I’ve done everything I’m told to avoid it. I’m at my wits end! I’m going to sell all my candles and do wax burners instead.
hi! just bougth my first voluspa baltic amber candle....and im watching all your excellent guide...and thanks for that, I have a question, when should I cut the wick after the first use? should I wait until the wax is solid again to cut it after the first use? thanks you! you ar awsome!
Hey there! Thank you so much! Voluspa is a fantastic brand with the use of coconut wax! With wicks, you may need to trim it before the first use as it may be a little long fresh out the box. You definitely want to wait until the wax is solid again to prevent part of the wick falling into the melted wax. It’s a pain fishing it out lol. The method I use is trimming before every burn of it’s needed. And you can most certainly use scissors! I’ve even seen people use nail clippers lol.
I've just recently turned to getting a couple of candles trying to alleviate the stress. Thank you for your tips!!! Oh and what are your thoughs on wax melts?
Thank you very much for watching!!☺️. I personally love wax melts. I don’t use them as often as candles but are very nice if you want a flameless option. And they sometimes have stronger fragrance throw depending on the fragrance concentration. Trapp has some really nice options for wax melts.
Just FYI, candle memory only applies to soy wax candles. If you have a coconut soy or coconut apricot blend, it will be fine to turn off before getting a full melt pool.
hi! do bbw candles lose their scent if we leave the lid off for the whole day? not burning it though, just to let the room filled with the scent. i am so curious
@@DetailedDream thank you, I'm using a lot of fragrances but new to scented candles. I have a question, I bought a Black Tobacco canlde with sealed wooden lid (12 Oz), and that's a limited edition line and they make high quality candle, so if I wanna buy a few more for back up before they sold out, can I store those back up candles for a long long time if store them the right way? I know that I can ask them directly at the store, but I wanna know your opinion too
@@DetailedDream or I just have 2 months for the first burnt from the time I bought it? Because I wanna buy about 3 more so if I think I store the right way, I expect them about 4-5 months, not lose their scent after 2 months
@Hiếu Béo Yes with a sealed lid you can definitely store them. If the candle brand uses a plant based wax, you will want to burn the candle between 12 to 18 months before the fragrance/essential oil begins to fade. of course keeping them out of direct sunlight.
Thank you this was very helpful. I’ve just recently purchased some large 3 wick candles from Nest and a Diptyque candle and I was concerned with keeping them clean during the life of the candles especially since I’ll be rotating burning them and at different times. I’m very fragrance sensitive and I find that I can’t burn them for too long without aggravating my allergies do you have any candles you can recommend? I love candles and I’m looking for some that will give me the least allergic reaction.
So every new candles need to be light during that 2 months time ? After that first burn in the 2 months time, can we preserve the scent or we still need to burn the candle in the next 2 months to preserve the scent ? In conclusion, by burning the candle we can preserve the scent of that candle ?
Hey there! Loved this video, really insightful for someone just getting into candles. Quick question: I have bought a few candles that are also decoration for the apartment I wanna move into. I am still living with my parents and don't really have room to use them at the moment, so I wanna store them for a few months. As of now, I have put them in their original packaging and put those into a larger cardboard box. Is there anything else I can do to make sure they keep their fragrance as much as possible?
Thank you so much! As far as storing candles, they are perfectly fine inside of the box. As long as they are out of direct sunlight or humidity, they should be fine until you're ready to use them. Candles tend to follow the same principals as parfums. The only thing is taking the wax into consideration.
I have a 5 wick candle on the way from Diptyque! How long should I let it burn for the initial burn? I know you said the minimum is 4 hours for a 3 wick candle, but what about a 5 wick? Is it about 6 hours? Thank you!
I bought a candle that did not come with a jar so I had to buy a glass jar that is much wider than the diameter of candle and is starting to tunnel as i am burning it. Would your technique still work for my situation?
Does this wick trimmer you recommend have a sharp edge to cut? I recently purchased a wick trimmer on ebay and it is so dull that I have to almost saw at the wick. Aren't they supposed to be sharp or am I doing something wrong? BTW Love the video. Very informative.
this is a great video, i’m so glad i found it and i’ve learned so much - everything thing was amazing i just really cringed at the random movie clips put in, i'm not trying to be a hater i'm just not a fan of that style of editing 😶
Yes. keeping the lid on will help with the longevity of the candle fragrance and if it doesn't come with a lid I would just keep it in the packaging :)
? Just cut the top off the wick while its on fire so it can keep going but tbh iv also never had any issues with soot even after 6+ hours on even just a little 3.4 oz. But you know should still watch it and trim it when appropiate which after 6 hours is usally when im done using it anyway. Also getting a wick dipper is kind of rediclus just get a stick or knife or somthing but hey if your into it im not stoppin ya, just get a good fancy one if your gonna ya know. And like im pretty much breaking all the rules here but theres no reason not to just burn to the bottom if you want to like i could see a 3 wick getting too hot and poentially cuasing damage but never had issues with single wicks and even then you probably already have a dish or somthing for the candle to sit on so it doesn't cause heat damage to the furniture

Not the best because of the smoke. Buy a candle dipper or use a flathead screwdriver to help dip the wick into the wax to kill the flame.

What if the candle we just bought burns for 4 hours and still doesn’t melt across the surface all the way? I trimmed the wick beforehand too :/
RIP to all the candles I burned too long or blew out too early
Should we replace the lid on candles after extinguishing? I usually toss the lid but perhaps it helps save the fragrance?
Yes. keeping the lid on will help with the longevity of the candle fragrance and if it doesn't come with a lid I would just keep it in the packaging :)
