I really like the updates. Much better value than the pervious gen which is saying a lot. Considering the MT09s have been the bench mark of best bang for your bucks.

The pegs appeared to be unusually high for a naked bike and your legs consequently looked to be quite bent so it came as no surprise to hear that your knees were aching.
@Englishbikerdan I did wouldn't say ultimate comfort though but if I wanted that sort of foot position I'd of bought a supersport and I can move my rearsets up a notch anyway if I want
That front light shroud does nothing for me and I prefer my 3rd Gen rounder and minimalistic bodywork to the more angular shapes. Radiator shroud is an improvement though. Looks aside the improvements are nice strengthening an already brilliant bike.

Awesome bike but it's frustrating that Yamaha continues to put sub-par braking systems on their machines. I mean this bike has enough power to get you into trouble and then they don't give you the brakes to be confident that you can stop. Even my CB650R has twin 310mm discs and Nissin 4 piston radial mount callipers. It's one of the few things about that bike that make me think "Nah I'll pass". Sure I could save and get the SP but I think it's a bit expensive and overkill for my skill level.

I seriously doubt that simply switching to stylema calipers will give the desired effect. The wooden feel is mainly caused by the over intrusive ABS. Apart from the stock pads being a bit tame there’s not really anything wrong with the hardware.
@@MachoMadness69420 I don't know bro, I have never even ridden an MT09 but I do know that just about every single review that I watch of the MT09 mentions the wooden brakes that are underpowered for a bike with so much thrust. With good power comes the need for great brakes. Underpowered brakes are a recipe for disaster. If they just made the discs 310mm then that alone would make a good difference. I'm not sure what comes with the Stylemas on the SP but hopefully it won't just be the callipers but also steel braided hoses and Stylema master cylinder.
The map bit of the dash does look quite small. Why wouldn’t you want the biggest screen possible? It’s not just about eyesight, it’s what detail a quick glance gives you as you switch from looking at the road - a bigger map display in the dash would make it easier all round. I suspect that Yamaha, like all bike manufacturers, has budgeted this bike down to the penny, and if they could fit a bigger dash and stay on budget, and thought most buyers would want one, they would have fitted it.
@@MH-xd2nd True. Im now used to the 6.5” TFT screen on my S1000RR and it is so much better than those tiny things the cheaper bikes have. Mt base MT-09 is a penny pincher bike.
It's a little more over the front, but not terrible for average journeys of a couple of hours. I finished the day with a bit of a sore bum, but nothing horrific.
Had the MT07 & MT09 and the brakes on both were pretty bad. I've noticed the brake fluid was quite dark after only a few months, so I've changed it and pads, and it was a noticeable improvement. Other than that, the MT09 was an excellent bike and I am sure I'll have another one again.
Guess it is just to good I guess. It did nothing for me and I should have changed rubbers since the from factory felt pure asphalt. Not that the Avons on my Triumph would do better but then again, it isn’t an adv. Maybe I’m a Tenere kinda guy for the longer trips?
And… I haven’t tried the GT+ yet. Might be a different beast? The instrument cluster seems Much better than that of the GT. don’t now if the glaring has gone but just might.
Looks good Dan. Quite like the sat nav in the dash for free, looks good. I recently did a triumph survey and that was asked actually so must be on their radar too. It's Obviously closer to the R than the RS but looks like a really good alternative. Be interested to see your comparisons between them once you've had the chance to compare. I'm really happy with my 765RS esp now it's been tuned. I reckon the MT09 SP should be that bit better again than the standard MT09. Did you get the drone shots yourself or were they done as part of the launch? Cracking vid as always.
Thanks mate, yeah definitely closer to the R and the SP will be the RS competitor. I feel they are a bit different, essentially for me the MT is more raw while the Street Trip is more sedate and refined. Depends on what flavour you prefer really! Drone shots all done by ANT Productions.

The new front wheel-oriented seating position combined with some brilliant S23 rubber (my next ones after 8 sets of S22’s) make it fun in the twisties 😃🔥💯🏁
as a taller rider (5'9'') im worried this bike will look small, and i prefer more hors powers, such as 150hp+ ideally 200hp but don’t like the mt10 design...
@@Englishbikerdan Nice. Must have been the one I rode. Had the same issue with Street Triples. Had a 675 that was silky smooth and then a 765 that I sold because my hands went numb despite throttle body synch, re-torquing all the mounting bolts and handlebar mounts, added weight, etc.
How does this compare to your Tracer in terms of ride feel, wind, comfort and anything else you can think of? Stuck between this, the Tracer and the XSR for my next bike! Tracer tempted me for comfy pillion commuting (small city, very low distance and speed), and longer fun rides, but I'm not sure if It's better than the MT for what I need (no rides longer than a day yet)

Hey Dan, you're probably a good person to ask, since you've owned/ridden both. I'm debating between a 2021-2022 Tracer 9 GT, or a new MT-09. The MT-09 is lighter and probably funner, but the Tracer is better for longer rides. Do you think the Tracer gives up a lot vs. the MT-09 in terms of playfulness and fun?
The STR would be the fairer comparison, until the SP comes out anyway. STR feels more locked in, has a better braking feel too and has a lovely engine. BUT, the MT09 has that hooligan factor that's missing from the Triumph. Not everyone wants that, so it's nice to have a choice. And I love the STR.

The quick shifter has been updated so you can down shift while accelerating and up shift while decelerating... both of which are completely unnecessary... nobody wants a higher gear while on the brakes.

The problem is that I couldn't stamp on the brakes, but they seemed okay. Certainly better than my gen 3 Tracer 9.

On the tank on those vents is Yamaha sound of the engine comes through when in high revs so the cp3 engine is in your face ❤❤

New MT09 is a more focused riding position and less comfortable over a long distance. XSR900 is more upright.

It's exactly as you'd imagine. Tracer is less agile but more comfortable. Depends what is important to you I guess.

Yeah Tracer definitely does lose some of that, but the trade off is it's better at distance.
Wonder how hard it would be to strap a xsr headlight as a replacement. Mounted on the exact same forks.

Apparently the rear suspension travel is shorter on this chassis. How does that affect handling and comfort?
I didn't notice any issues.
I don't trust a Triumph, KTM, or Ducati to keep working after the warranty. Yamaha wins by default.
All bikes can have issues though. Case in point, my 2016 MT07 failed spectacularly a week after the warranty ran out. Two new sensors were required.
