    I fell in love with Yamaha after seeing the MT-09 when it first came out. Did a test ride with an MT-10 in 2018 and never looked back. All of the MTs are amazing. Kudos to Yamaha, I hope they keep their dark side alive as long as possible.

    Finally 09 can be ridden more like a sports bike in corners and not super moto style. Loving the dropped front end and cornering now. Didn't want to go 09 mainly because it never gave that sport feeling in corners. This one changes it, as it seems. Will test it first chance.

      @@veljkovic92 Honestly I expected (and my local dealer friend) that Yamaha brings new MT(gen4) at least later 2025. Then it happened 2024.
      I was happy with 701SM with all the racing preps. But I bought 23 MT09sp a couple weeks ago, because it’s the last model year. Depending on personal taste, it’s one of a kind, unique in good / bad ways, like hypermotard. 23 Mt09sp’s handling is agile but not sharp due to its unique geometry, (890R has the BEST handling in this class) but it also provides kind of funky feeling when I cruise fast.
      I testdrove new MT09, and yes it fixed & improved key components. Very solid naked bike, but also more competitions.

    Great review Chris as always. If ten years is making you feel old then for me looking back at my Australian Superbike racing years, when the road bike I had was the first Fireblade then I’m all of a sudden feeling each heeled broken bone from the thousands of laps I did around my home track being Phillip Island. Coincidentally, when typing this it’s Sunday, race two for round one of the Supersports and WSB at PI. Should be an interesting day as the sky is blue, track looks amazing, and not a drop off rain on the radar for over 800 kilometres.

  • @GazBromley
    @GazBromley 9 місяців тому +2

    I have an MT-10 and it's nuts. Probably to fast for the road, but i love it. 100cc less to me with the 09 is still gonna be quick as hell. I have a 98 Kawasaki ZX-9R and that's pretty rapid for its age, same displacement...do we need litre bikes...no, of course not, but they're so bloody cool and that's what draws people to motorcycles. I like the fact that bikes like the 09 are great all rounders, and they sell in spades for that reason. I think Yamaha could have the next great all rounder here, and it looks better than its predecessor. Also, Chris, can you teach me to wheelie like you? lol.

      @@Snotroggel453 I can understand your point and agree to a point. Just hope those KTM days are now behind us. If reliability wasn’t a potential issue then the question still stands. Remember, the history of the MT-09 isn’t flash, being a previous owner of the first and second generation I can say they were rubbish when it came to handling, regardless what was done to the suspension. I even had my race mechanic swap out the suspension a know brand and it helped, just not by much.

  • @jun701
    @jun701 9 місяців тому +3

    I just bought the 2023 Mt09sp due to the fact that the new mt09 24 “fixed” some issues. 😂
    - Geometry
    New-gen raised the bar by 3 cm, so now Mt09 is no longer semi-supermoto handling but solid naked. Lowering the fork a bit/brake upgrade is a common upgrade(?) for Gen3 Mt09. Personally, I highly praise the brake upgrade. Stylema seems overkill (I rather keep an existing caliper but choose Brembo RCS racing ver if I had a choice.)
    Anyway, the new Mt09 is a very good choice as a naked bike. But inevitably, this upgrade kills very unique character of the previous Mt09. It’s a weird situation - personally, I have very mixed feelings about this rational decision of Yamaha.
    For me, if I want a naked bike, I’d rather go for
    1) Ducati SF V2 or Monster SP
    2) KTM Duke 890r

    • @Tenktory

      I have similar doubts. Few mounts ago I spent one day visiting few dealerships and MT09 was by far the best fit for me. Much better than Tuono, Street and Z. And a bit better than 890. The only drawback was it looks.
      Now they fixed visual aspect but changed what I enjoyed, so completely different riding position. I know that pegs can be adjusted. This is good thing. Yamaha mentioned that handlebar's position can also be changed. I keep my fingers crossed that it can be put more or less where it was on the previous gen.
      Right now I'm waiting for the information from the local dealer that they have new MT in their showroom so I can compare it to the previous gen. If riding position will be to similar to ST I will consider buying last year model😢

      XSR900 is such a beautiful bike! Did you get it in the blue or black color? I know the display might be "outdated" compared to the new one in the MT09, but I don't mind the small(er) screen. It shows you every info you need; I even think that the bigger screen on the MT09 looks like you put an iPad on top of your bike.
      So all in all you definitely made the right decision, I'm also planning on picking up a 22' or 23' XSR900 this summer :)

    I just wish they made these with a half fairing like the old FZ1s, FZ8s and FZ6s. I prefer having a windscreen.

    The only issue with this bike is the short revs. It feels like it can rev a few more thousand. I find myself hitting the limiter way to fast lol. Finally getting used to it.

    Everyone has Dutch plates and you are nowhere near DutchLand.
    Then I realized that the EU HQ for Yamaha is in DutchLand.

    Yamaha would have it 10/10.... if they would have given it a 4.5gal (17L) tank finally, after all these model refreshes. Now with cruise control, it could tour no problem. Would be nice to have that extra 3 liters of flexibility. The weight penalty would be a mere 4.8 lb weight.

    I like the Improvements but still would prefer an MT-09 Tracer with out Electronic shocks. You probably could unplug the rear ABS in a few seconds. In other words not the MT-09 Tracer GT which I think is the only Tracer model available in the USA

    What I don't get, is that all these bikes the PR rides on, are registered as MT 09 SP's, even though they should be the 'normal' ones according to the color scheme. Is Yamaha playing a trick by giving the press the better version disguised as normal mt 09s?
