I wonder if lighter would cause a crash or let me escape disaster...I like stable and steady on the highway. Like you're piggy backing on this transformer. I have to try it in person to see how I feel. I might like it in person. I hate handle bar mirrors so I don't ride nakeds.
I just bought my 24 MT09 last Friday and I LOVE it so far so torquey and feels SO LIGHT on the road, absolutely in love with it so far, almost 100 miles on it so far but a total blast of a bike.
@@contacthigh8571 I got the gray and cyan, was my favorite and knew it wouldn’t last if I passed on it. No discounts for price but brand new so can’t expect much.
It's a really nice bike, got mine about 2 weeks ago, can't wait to do the first oil change this weekend and use the whole rev range. It rides great, CP3 engine is a beast, you get used to new turn signals very quick, the bike is so easy to ride, goes into corners effortlesly, my only gripe with it are the brakes, you have a nice brembo radial master, big rotors but it lacks steel braided lines in my opinion which ruins the feel, I'm used to touchy brakes that do not require much force but on this one it feels spongy and i need to grab a handful of brakes to really get it to slow down, so this will probably be my first mod for this bike plus an exhaust 😃
Chase in my hometown 🤙 This is the second Moto press launch in Santa Cruz this month. We have the best mountain roads just about anywhere but it’s getting too crowded lately. They used to be empty but weekends are packed now.
I also noticed the power difference in 2nd. I was merging on the interstate, and when I quick shifted into 3rd it just took off like a rocket with the same throttle input. So far I love my 24 MT09 it is by far the most powerful and fun bike I have ever owned. My other bike is a 2022 Honda Shadow Phntom, and I used to own this bike's predecessor a 2012 FZ8.
OC: Model 4 = Dream bike!! Absolutely getting one ... I want the SP version though. My only visual complaint is the massive black border around the TFT. I'd prefer more visible screen less border.
It actually has to be like that, because that bike has nothing around the screen and it is just out there. The black part is a kind of heatsink that keeps the electronics from overheating
OC-I am absolutely loving the upcoming '24 MT-09 SP. That bike has it all, my only gripe is the polished levers and swingarm. That stuff needs to be black, but this is the perfect bike for this guy. Awesome that you got the invite for such an awesome bike. Yamaha absolutely nailed the headlight, BTW. The Master of Darkness has delivered.
@@tubejorrit Agreed. Don't know why Yamaha doesn't believe in maxing braking power...but at least it gives the purchaser an opportunity to customize this bike with some colored braded lines.
I'm pretty sure all of this refinement they're doing is to make the R9 worthy being the flagship R series bike. (Cuz R1 is going away and this will be next in line to take the throne.)
@arniedvorak1605 Have a look at the XSR 900GP a retro looking design sportsbike with modern technology using the CP3 platform i don't think it's coming to the US.
My modified (weight down to 181,5 kgs wet, power up - no factory restrictions) 2020 SP allows me to do most mountain passes in 4th and 5th gear. Only for very tight hairpins the 2nd gear comes in as a "back-up"... Eventually, the gen4 SP to replace my current mountain pass rocket ship - aiming at 187 kgs wet and 120+ whp 😎✌🏁
i have this bike. The blinker is very easy to get used to, and in fact, I like it better than the standard blinkers. I prefer the seating position of the old MT 09, but the new one is still quite comfortable, comfortable enough to ride all day on it (I'm 6'4"). The blinkers that turn off automatically doesn't work flawless, but tbh I don't really care about that all too much.
Hello I'm from Brazil. I have an MT-09 model 20/21 here in Brazil, which would be the 2018 model for you. I hope this one comes to our country, looking forward to exchanging it for this current one, it looks really beautiful.
Can't wait for mine to arrive in June, awesome video as always. Questions: How risky is it to unintentionally lift it? This would be my second bike, an upgrade from a 400. How's the mpg? Is the display clearly visible in every situation? I'm getting an aftermarket Akrapovic on it, will the amplifiers work? Do you think they'll be too loud?
It has lift control, so you can adjust how much it will let the front tire lift or float. If you're worried about it you can just turn it up all the way. Listed MPG is 48. An exhaust shouldn't really change what the amplifiers sound like since those are before the air goes into the engine.
picking mine up tomorrow, can't wait! I think I'm gonna wanna put somelower handlebars on it though, hopefully the clearance fits. I had a Honda 919 with custom clubman style handlebars that I loved the riding position on.
Thanks for your great and honest review chase. I know I asked you to do a first ride review and I greatly appreciate it. Your review is honestly the review I respect the most. I have watched every single possible video on this bike and love the response people are giving. Waiting for mine to arrive here in houston. I CANNOT WAIT to get my hands on mine and look so forward to being an MT-09 FATHER. I already have her name in my head. She will be crowned as 'Lady Cyan'. Thanks Chase look forward to more of your videos. Ride safe brother!🤗🏍
Absolutely agree! It is the BEST LOOKING MT-09. I am new to riding and the MT collection of bikes. But starting last summer I went into a deep dive on these bikes. I am a huge fan of vehicular design on both cars and bikes. I think the 1st gen and its more normal headlight to look quite nice and there are great aftermarket lights to make it look more modern. I didn't like when they started going for the 'eyes' effect on the 2nd gen. The 3rd gen felt like a very cool attempt, but the Transformer Cyclops look was 'like it sometimes, really don't other times' and the fact the headlight was three inches too high was a big problem. Plus that the lights of the front didn't flow well into the tank and the air vents. But this gen? WOW. I instantly liked it. Going with a more Iron Man helmet with the DRLs subtle eyes, and the lines flow right into the tank and even manage to go all the way to the rear seat. This is the best MT09 design. I love it.
Intersting, the 2nd gen for me is the only good looking one ahah. The first gen is boring. The 3rd gen is as ugly as it can be, although in person they are not disgustingly ugly, just ugly.. :) And this latest one is an obvious attempt to fix the 3rd gen which was widely disliked. Excelent engine, what a fun bike to ride regardless of its looks.
That place they stopped for photos in the woods is where I would turn around to go back up the hill to Castle Rock on Hwy 9!! I have a photo with my 20 MT09SP there on my phone. It joins up with 236 at the stop and is a wild tight road. But fire damage put the road out of commission, dont know if they opened up yet.
That's my bike. Love the new position, love the look. Took a day to adjust to the new blinker but I love it!! I don't fumble the blinker anymore!! Just wish the SP was out but I'll upgrade the suspension later.
IM SOOO JELLY!! I moved from Sunnyvale CA to TN in 21. I miss HWY 9 through the redwoods and the twisties are the best!! Hwy 1 is a blast too. I would go from Saratoga hwy 9 to 236 & 35. My 20 MT09SP was a ripper. had to sell as it wouldnt fit in the PODs. Look up Castle Rock State Park CA on google maps and zoom out, that was my playground.
I am completely in love with the new look this would be a much welcome addition to the stable. The exhaust is horrendous but many options are available
So I test rode an mt09 sp, for reference I just got my license last week and the only bike I've been on is my 16 ninja 650 besides the mt07 I test rode before the mt09, I feel like you're never gonna use the power the mt09 has on the street. I couldn't get out of 1/4 throttle in 3rd gear on my test ride. Super fun bike, super stiff compared to the mt07, and the way the power comes on is...interesting. Pulling you along is definitely the correct way to describe it. Also the sp I rode had a normal turn signal switch
Imagine if the MT07 got a nice update like this! I'm in the market now and the MT09 is just out of my price range and I'm between the MT07 and Trident 660. If the MT07 had an update like this it'd be no question. OC
I was in this exact predicament last week actually. Local triumph dealer let me ride the 660 as a test ride, it was OK. My biggest gripes were the shifter and brake pedals feel tiny for me and hard to find if wearing boots, and notably the bike feels absolutely tiny to ride. I have a honda grom for BS'ing around town, and it just felt like a faster grom to ride if youre anything 6' and over. Had a friend take some pics of me and definitely looked dumb on the bike. Few days later, another dealer locally was having yamaha demo day so i got to ride the MT07, MT09, and the XSR900. MT07 was fun to ride but i actually fell in love with the XSR900 and bought it on the spot. Such a refined bike compared to the other options i mentioned, and worth every penny going above my price range. If MT09/XSR900 is out of price range, i would suggest saving up the extra $2000 as a personal recommendation over buying the trident / MT07 unless youre looking for something super specific
See if you can find a 2021-2023 MT09, they have quite a significantly lower MSRP (similar to a new MT07). The new 2024 just has some electronic goodies, different styling, and a more aggressive seating position. I personally prefer the looks of the 2021-2023 model, but its all personal opinion.
Got the SP MY24. The bike itself is absolutely brilliant but the headlight is a narrow beam and high beam is just a spot light. Not too good for night time running. The navigation forced to go throug Garmin is pretty bad. Can't even plan a trip on the Garmin app unles you're connected to the bike. Other than that... pretty happy with the purchase.
Which mic do you use and where is it in the helmet, you almost have no wind in the mic thats awsome. When i Ride with bad weather is not very nice, i use the road smatlavplus
The superb SP all day... Will be replacing my super quick (modified) 2020 SP, looking forward to all the optimization projects coming to transform it again into a force on the serious mountain passes.
It’s an amazing bike - agree with you on your 2nd gear comment though: it lacks a bit of punch / seems too close to 1st gear. 3rd gear and up has some beautiful pull that are a blast to go through
I have a 2021 Yamaha MT-07 and it suits 100% all my needs because it's basically just a nice afternoon/weekend toy. I absolutely love the new 2024 MT09 looks and I honestly want to upgrade, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. Dealer priced my mt07 at $6,339 and want an extra 5k difference to bring home a new mt09. What do yall think? (yes, I have the cash)
Considering upgrading from MT-07 with up only quickshifter to MT-09. The MT-09 bulbous engine effect on foot placement was one turnoff on last generation. Other than that it seems amazing. I guess my question is: Is this latest generation MT-09 worth upgrading to? Will that big price bump equal to more riding enjoyment?
OC definitely Gen 4. Gen 4 should have been Gen 3 in my personal opinion, I also love that Yamaha is FINALLY! stepping in the right direction in terms of fitting Brembo Stylema Calipers on their premium model bikes, can't wait till the SP model becomes available to the Public, also curious to see IF Yamaha will update the MT-10 for 2025, if they will end up having to redesign the bike from the ground up since they announced the discontinuation for R1's or make that specific Engine EURO5+ compliant since it's essentially the same engine just de-tuned for more REASONABLE Street Use
Man, welcome to my neck of the woods. I've road 9 to 236 more times than I can count. We have great bay area backroads. Also, nice semi review. I can tell you cut this video from different parts of the route.
I don''t know.. one light or two lights, pick a style. Three headlights look funny. I actually liked my '22 SP, I thought the profile looked like a leaping jaguar (especially in black). However, I would be all over the Gen 4 updates. I've had a Gen 2 in black, the '22 SP. Might have to go back for a Gen 4. Currently on a Husqvarna Norden 901, which I love by the way!
OC Thanks for a very informative video. I'm currently in the market for a new bike and being older, I wasn't sure if I wanted another super sport bike. I have been considering the MT 09 and was going to pull the trigger on a new 23 model SP bike until I watched your vlog. Thanks for helping me make up my mind. BTW I subbed!! Looking forward to your next video.
Looks great.. i wonder how it is for a tall rider compared to the competition.. im 196cm riding triumph sprint 1050.. it is great, but too heavy and lack of parts, so im looking for a change
Right now I believe insta360 is the only brand that lets you do that natively. So you will have to go with their products otherwise yea youll have to record audio separate and just sync in post
@baileybrewer1172 I don't think it's as good a deal as what they get in the states or Europe. But here in the Philippines, luxury import items ate tax very hight
I own a 890R. It's the best bike I've ever ridden, and I've ridden MT09's as well. The 890R has the combination of being super lightweight, very precise handling and the most torque in it's class, as well as top of the line brakes. If you can get it that much cheaper than the rest, it's a no brainer. The reliability is indeed a bit worrying, but I feel it's a bit of a gamble: most likely you'll be fine, but you can have bad luck and have a bike with issues. With these Yamaha's you can be certain that you're fine.
Dude looks like you got pulled over at the De Anza University on Stevens Creek. I lived right around there in Sunnyvale. My youngest went there 2 yrs ago. Good Uni. Follow Stevens creek to resivor and then to Hwy 9. The best dam road in NorCal
May be now you have to rev the engine up for power because the new engine is tuned for a sports bike ? They use this engine in the new XSR 900 GP. I think R9 announcement should be coming soon.
I’m on the fence between this and the triumph 765 res… what do u think.. I’m trying to get a Yamaha dealer to let me test drive it but proving harder than I thought
It seems Yamaha has improved on the MT09 every year except for the looks of the front end. Just get rid of that projector head light and stick a nice LED head light with a modern edgy cafe faring on it.
The S1000R (single r) is the naked bike. (Although to the second comment, I feel much more comfortable on race models, even on commutes and long rides. ) For the much lower price, including maintenance, and a still amazing bike I'd go for the mt-09, but I've also ridden the s1000 several times and it's also really nice. It's like the difference between a 600 (with a stronger low end and midrange) and a 1000.
I own a 2021 MT-09 and have few questions the 2024. I have question about mode & control knobs vs the old scroll wheel & clicker so what they changed to make it better? The ride mode in older model you needed to stop to change ride modes so on 2024 can you change on the fly? The naming of the ride modes like sport, street, etc is like the old 1, 2, 3 & 4 in older 2021 model but the 2024 has 2 custom ride modes. How’s the gas mileage on the 2024 vs older 2021-2023? Better? Worse?
OC: Haven't rode the new MT09 or MT09 SP yet but if it doesn't have that damn scroll wheel then the 4th Gen is my favourite. I absolutely hated that thing. Seriously left me scratching my head thinking Why did they continue with it when no doubt it got negative feedback from riders.
I had a 2016 FZ09 it was cool had it for about 6 years. It had no electronics just riding modes. It was a supermoto on steroids. Fun cheap bike, hated the suspension
OC baby! Without riding any of them, the 2024 is definitely my favorite MT-09 so far based on looks. They killed it with the styling this time around.
I just got one. They are so easy to ride and feel much lighter than they weigh on paper. Very confidence inspiring. Turn signals I actually prefer to the regular style once you get used to it!
I wonder if lighter would cause a crash or let me escape disaster...I like stable and steady on the highway. I think the mt09 is quicker because they have lower moment of inertia wheels from a special process. i'm not sure how i feel about the transformer head. at first i liked it alot better than the last insect head, but now it seems a bit werid. they make you look like a litle kid with his transformer. Like you're piggy backing on this transformer. I have to try it in person to see how I feel. I might like it in person. I hate handle bar mirrors so I don't ride nakeds.

OC: I like the current model the most because it gives me hope that these updates will make their way to the next iteration of the MT-10.
They went from Cupertino CA Stevens Creek Blvd to hwy 85 to Saratoga CA to Hwy 9 to Hwy 1 to Santa Cruz
Picked up a Team Blue from Mountain Motorsports Roswell on Saturday 5/4. It is better than everyone told me it was.
How's the blue look? That's all I can find near me
@@BrandoMotoBlue looks beautiful. I picked mine last Friday.
Man, welcome to my neck of the woods. I've road 9 to 236 more times than I can count. We have great bay area backroads. Also, nice semi review. I can tell you cut this video from different parts of the route.
I love highway 9. Too bad that there was a car up front at redwood gulch till 35.
DUDE THATS MY ROAD!! LOVE IT MISS IT. Maybe I will buy the MT09 and get to the Dragon.
I want the r9 if that’s ever comes out. If not I’ll be just as happy with this. I love the new looks.
Are you getting a 23? I don’t know whether to buy a discounted 23 sp or go 24
Why can't they get the headlights right on the MT series?
For you personally which would you prefer the gen3 or gen4?
Yo Chase!! you came to Bay Area?? I live here!! Just realized that you were riding in Cupertino!!! Coffee and ride??
Looks great.. i wonder how it is for a tall rider compared to the competition.. im 196cm riding triumph sprint 1050.. it is great, but too heavy and lack of parts, so im looking for a change
I ordered that machine 2 weeks ago, should be delivered this month and now I want it even more... 😩
I do prefer last year’s wheels with that bit of orange but that’s a real easy fix
Might be a silly question, but how does one link coms audio to their camera/recorded audio
You probably have to record them separately and add them together in post
Right now I believe insta360 is the only brand that lets you do that natively. So you will have to go with their products otherwise yea youll have to record audio separate and just sync in post
@chaseontwowheels How is the MT09 vs the SP versions from previous MTs? I had 20 MT09SP is the suspension and brakes really worth the upgrade to SP?
Ktm duke 890r, street triple rs 2024 or mt09sp.
The Philippines has an amazing promo on the 890r at 9300 bucks. The others are about 5k more.
That’s quite a deal. Is there a reason why? I’ve heard horror stories about KTM’s
@@baileybrewer1172 I think they are just cleaning out the old stock to make way for the incoming 990 duke.
@@jorreeeGood advice 💯👍
Yamaha for reliability, KTM fun factor, but might have issues.
Currently own a beautiful 2019 R6 and I’m looking to get one of these. Just worried I might miss the top end rush
From an aesthetic perspective I prefer the 2nd gen, but from a refinement perspective my favourite is the 3rd gen.
Goddamn beautiful, CP3 was the super engine
Dude looks like you got pulled over at the De Anza University on Stevens Creek. I lived right around there in Sunnyvale. My youngest went there 2 yrs ago. Good Uni. Follow Stevens creek to resivor and then to Hwy 9. The best dam road in NorCal
1500 miles in im loving mine
OC..that backwoods ride look asf!
So, they essentially brought back the FZ8 with this new MT09.
4th model hands down. MT09 SP or bust as well. But the real question is this or the Street Triple 765 RS?
May be now you have to rev the engine up for power because the new engine is tuned for a sports bike ? They use this engine in the new XSR 900 GP. I think R9 announcement should be coming soon.
OC; this versus a street triple?
How would you compare the Mt 09 quick shifter and transmission vs the triumph street triple 765 rs? I’m curious
I bought a black 24 as my first bike and I will have my license next month
I’m on the fence between this and the triumph 765 res… what do u think.. I’m trying to get a Yamaha dealer to let me test drive it but proving harder than I thought
RS... Thats the one i went for :) faster, better looking and felt better for me all around. Getting mine in 3 weeks
Trying to hate this version but couldn't, much better than previous one
Have they sorted the fuel gauge nonsense out. From full tank to half then 3 blocks on previous gen.
Is it Thursday yet
the low-end not being there is the emissions tuning
Hoping my SP is arriving soon in Australia. Saw one vid of one in Thailand. Anyone getting news of SP delivery dates?
Man this makes me feel like I was ripped off getting my 2022 GSXS750, I think I know what the next bike is gonna be.
OC: I don’t have a fav mt09 cause I’ve never ridden one. So far my fav naked bike is the new Katana. Sad it got so little attention.
Im looking at a 2024 MT-09 this weekend. Looking at cfmoto 800nk also
dream bike currently own a MT07
How those turnsignals are always ON ? I can’t figure it out. Not flashing but always on in your video. How to set up that ?
Looks like a heck of a good time! 🤘🏾
That route you took was part of my daily commute once upon a time. Love those roads.
It seems Yamaha has improved on the MT09 every year except for the looks of the front end. Just get rid of that projector head light and stick a nice LED head light with a modern edgy cafe faring on it.
Who’s gonna tell him that it does have a LED headlight and that the projector is just a housing type?
@@Telesk1er I already know that. The projector type sucks.
Could you try a first ride of the new 23/24 harley davidson fat boy please
Chase Which do you prefer, 2023 bmw s1000r or 2024 mt09? Which one would you choose to own And why. Best Regards.
Sports bike are not great for daily drive.
Mt09 great position and its light to drive and relaxing.
The S1000R (single r) is the naked bike. (Although to the second comment, I feel much more comfortable on race models, even on commutes and long rides. )
For the much lower price, including maintenance, and a still amazing bike I'd go for the mt-09, but I've also ridden the s1000 several times and it's also really nice.
Better? Worse?
The mt09 sp I demo'd had a scroll wheel on the right handlebar. As for everything else, I was too worried about making sure I didn't loop it to look 😭
I wonder if 2nd gear is electronically limited in torque. I'm currently torn, get a cheap new 2024 MT09, or spend the big bucks and get a ZH2 🤔
New mt09
OC: Haven't rode the new MT09 or MT09 SP yet but if it doesn't have that damn scroll wheel then the 4th Gen is my favourite. I absolutely hated that thing. Seriously left me scratching my head thinking Why did they continue with it when no doubt it got negative feedback from riders.
Lots of buyers have been complaining about 2nd gear not having adequate power on their Gen4s. They're really pissed off about it.
Its not exclusively a Gen 4 thing. Gen 3 is the same. Either tune it, or live with it. Never bothered me to much tbh
@@jamiepoole5193 probably a us restriction (like bmw on the s1k) because my euro gen 3 pull hard as f* in every gear
Looks like a good upgrade from my Fz6 😄
All the best from Philippines but currently in Oregon
I can't wait for SE bcuz that keyless
I had a 2016 FZ09 it was cool had it for about 6 years. It had no electronics just riding modes. It was a supermoto on steroids. Fun cheap bike, hated the suspension
What cameras are you using other than the 360 cam?
This bike is immense
