- Artist: The National
Single: Exile Vilify (From Portal 2)
Year: 2011
Lyrics:
Exile. It takes your mind... Again.
Exile. It takes your mind... Again.
You got sucker's luck...
Have you given up?
Does it feel like a trial?
Does it trouble your mind the way you trouble mine?
Exile. It takes your mind... Again.
Exile. It takes your mind... Again.
Oh, you meant so much...
Have you given up?
Does it feel like a trial?
Does it trouble your mind the way you trouble mine?
Does it feel like a trial?
Now, you're thinking too fast, you're like marbles on glass.
Vilify. Don't even try.
Vilify. Don't even try.
You got sucker's luck...
Have you given up?
Does it feel like a trial?
Does it trouble your mind the way you trouble mine?
Does it feel like a trial?
Did you fall for the same empty answers again?
Vilify. Don't even try.
Vilify. Don't even try.
Vilify. Don't even try.
Vilify. Don't even try.
Vilify.

I've been listening to the low quality version all this time. Didn't even notice there was a second voice.
I don't hear a second voice.
its the most noticeable at "does it feel like a trial, does it trouble your mind like you trouble mine?" the second voice is deeper in tone so its very easy to miss. I haven't ever heard it while listening to this song until TGH pointed it out.
@@whatsfordinner62 Ha! I didn't even notice the deeper male voice. I was talking about the female voice that starts when it switches to Vilify around 2:15. There are are actually two harmonizing voices! A masculine one for the Exile portion of the song, and a feminine one for the Vilify portion. A whole separate layer of depth that you can't appreciate at a lower audio quality.
Amazing... New to me too. Sounds like Sharon Van Etten after 2:15
My favorite piano piece since 2012
There doesn't seem to exist a high quality version of this coverart, this is just 600x600 I had to upscale it, that's why it looks "not great".
as there isn't a comment here about this, I just want to say that not only is Portal and Portal 2 fantastic, but the video series that brought me here "Once Upon A Time in 2Fort", is also a touching story, of which wrapped up I believe about a year ago now.
It's stuff like this that makes me glad that I exist in the first place, that I wasn't stillborn. Life has it's ups and downs, and you've got to take the downs, no matter how low they go, in order to truly feel and appreciate the ups, and the heights that they can bring. Sometimes you'll want to give up, and that's okay; Nobody is, has ever been, or can ever be perfect, and sometimes you need to take a step backwards in order to truly see where you need to go or what you need to do.
I'm not sure what else I want to say and I tend to ramble in my thoughts. I feel like I need to say something more, but I suppose I'll just leave it at this. If anyone takes the time to read this, just know that the world acknowledges your existence, just as it does with everyone else. Have a wonderful day (or night, it's currently 6AM as I'm typing this so I probably need to head to bed lol)
thanks for uploading high quality
Were making it out of apeture with this one
Hopefully Doug and Chell made it out of Aperture alive as it's not definite whether the wheat field Chell steps out into is real or just another test chamber in Aperture
Really glad to see someone is still interested in this song as so many years, like myself
This is one of the saddest closing songs ive ever heard. Halo 2 was an amazing game.
You mean Diablo 2
@@ADHDamiaen Nah bruh, Doom 2
Ya mean Half Life 2?
@@millennialchicken nah dude HALO 2, this was played at the end some dude showed me it. That game went hard as hell
You mean Portal 2? Also it's not a closing song. It was on a radio..

Does anyone think that vilify sounded a lot like Parrot Island?
What's Parrot Island?
