@@cupcakeispie I didn't hear it was extended but rather not as "somber" in the unreleased test build, supposedly featured in the unfound alternate ending
Finding this song hit me hard. I'd been up for 36 hours, and had to stay up another 4 before sleeping so a friend recommended Portal so I didn't accidentally sleep. This was during my lowest year where I was extremely mentally unwell, had stopped taking my medication and hadn't shared with anyone how bad it was getting. This is all to say I was extremely raw coming across this song. I remember completely stopping to listen to it, and just silently crying. I don't think I'll ever resonate with a piece of music as much as I did in that moment. Anyway, just a special memory I have.
Radio version just sounds better, the poor audio quality makes it sound more somber, the boom of the piano pounds your heart and makes it ache. This version will always be better no matter what.
*If you close your eyes while listening to this, you will see a rusty metal room has cans, toaster computers, other garbages, paintings on walls, and a radio. You came here with the knowledge of getting out the test chamber. You hear a passionate music between loud machine noises...*
The deeper you look into the HL/Portal universe, the more lovecraftian and hopeless it looks. Chell wins only to be dragged back in. Every attempt to stop the Black Mesa incident was all for not, as Nihilanth had ripped a gap that let the combine into Earth.

I wonder why GLaDOS (who surely must control all the transmissions in the facility) chose to play this for Chell? Even before Wheatley, was the part of her that is Caroline trying to reach out?
If you try to desern what GLaDOS has and hasn't got controll over you run into massive plotholes. Most of them because of Portal 2 doing som retconing. Anyway for most of Portal 2 it seems like GLaDOS only controlls the self-building testing chambers and whatever functions stop the facility from exploding. The signal could be comming from anywhere else. As for how much controll Caroline would have had it is Probably extremly minor. It isn't a Caroline-machine with a built in testing addiction, it was more likely first ment to run the place, with the hope being that Cave could uppload himself to oversee it. After his death Caroline was upploaded against her will, whitch apparently might have stuck in the machine making it murderous. (We know she likes revange) Then cores where added to controll her behavior but instead (atleast this is how I headcannon it) just drowned out Caroline preventing her from calming down.
I find it really somber to think about a potentially abandoned radio station, broadcasting to the remnants of humanity. Seeing as Portal takes place in the same world as Half-Life, I can't help but think about the few families or groups of people, trying to get by in a broken world tormented and ravaged by the Combine. It's very grim. But a yet somehow a faint glimmer of hope remains. Hope for things to get better even if it seems completely impossible.
I'm a bit late on this, but it's located at Test Chamber 03 in Chapter 2, The Cold Boot. Test Chamber 3 is a room with a raised platform that rises out of the ground when you enter. Follow the right wall and you should see a gap. Head down that gap and turn left, the radio is there.
@@UnstoppablePhoenix To add to this: It's the same chamber you can see in the loading screen when you load the game from a save file where you were in Chapter 2.
