You need the subframe brace, because if you upgrade the rear swaybar diameter without one, the thicker swaybar will tear the frame. Thats why everyone uses them.
Thank you for pointing it out! It was bothering me. Like many other mods too often you'll see them used for form rather than function which makes me cringe a bit ngl
@@Mr-Yan. solid suspension is also required need bolf suspension and frame strong enough to hold the sway bar non r civic chassi is too weak for sway bars
What would be the max diameter for a rear sway bar without adding the brace? I’m thinking about adding the 13mm bar, which as far as I know, is the smallest on the EG’s
That brace without a swaybar would work the same as a tie bar, its going to tie those 2 points together and stiffen the subframe, also giving you the option to run a large swaybar without ruining your subframe
Once you brace all the goodies it makes the slow car alot of fun on the highway....at least here on the US. You can take the ramps and curved bridges at 90 and the car won't miss a beat. If you were in a rear wheel car you may wipe out. It's not about making sense with civics.. it's about fun👍..
People forget that aluminum ‘work hardens’ over time, causing the metal to become more brittle, best to have the steel bracket in there, the aluminum will always have to be thicker than the steel to match its strength, so why complicate things?
If they're not using the brace for a sway bar then it serves as a tie bar. Other than that a lot of owners just put it on as a dress up piece. Pretty and cute.
so funny thing civic have subframe on the rear its just welded to the chasiss not bolted like in most cars its one piece that u can remove spot welds and install new subframe except honda is not producing any more of these but you can find them in catalogs or in collision repair workshop manual also this brace have a very important purpose and even more than one it works like strut brace but for LCA mounts not alowing subframe to flex under load its not important for subframe to be braced for front back flexing because trailing arms are mounted pretty good the most load it gets is from toe angle trying to push and pull left right so brace is literally for that flexing its same as with f1 cars control arms these are very thin and dont look strong but its because these dont have any force applied to them trying to breake them in half but only push pull action also u can install swaybar to it
Yes I am well aware of the sway bar mounting ability I have fitted dozens of them, they don’t do anything if you don’t have a sway bar attached to them
@@TURBOTRISTO they do rear LCA mounting is getting loaded from sides because of toe angle and sliping load when taking a corner bolting a brace means mounts dont flex towards and Apart od eachother
Subframe without the rear arb is pointless, I agree. However the short throw shifter is a worthwhile mod to me at least but it really depends what you are going to do with it. Driving around sometimes I hate how wobbly and rubber like my shifter feels coupled with the large throw it feels like I am driving a van. Future mod is a short shifter just because I want crisper and notchier shifting, but a good idea is to change the bushings as well. If I grab my stock shifter lower, where the metal rod is the shifts are so mint and notchy, it almost feels like a bolt action rifle and that's what I would like to achieve with a short throw shifter. Either new rubber or poly bushings to get rid of that slop in the shifter as much as you can. Short throw shifter with old worn down bushings is just asking for money shifts.
@@TURBOTRISTO Yes, that shifter is a bit of a niche thing. If you are daily driving and want notchy, fast shifts, couple it with new bushings and go for it. But if u plan on slamming the gears like you stole the damn thing you are asking for money shifts at one point.
I can't see that subframe brace doing anything noticeable however a short shifter is on my list of mods for the sss. One of the few things I like about the 86 is the stock shifter feel. To my ears that new muffler made a slightly nicer tone.
If they weren't doing lower control arms nor a sway bar yea basically a waste of money on the rear brace lbs no shifter bushing upgrades thats a waste as well exhaust served no purpose also just wasted money all around
@@TURBOTRISTO hopefully they still have the car and are enjoying the little things that you've done and hopefully they've added real upgrades at this point lol

Kevin Back I agree!!!!! But 99.9% of Honda boiz don’t have a rear sway bar

You can tear it out with the standard em1/ek4 swaybar 🥲

Exactly but without a sway bar it strengthens a part of the car that doesn’t need strengthening
@@TURBOTRISTO Oh 100%. Still works like a tie bar by connecting those 2 points together, plus having a nice brace/control arms looks great hahah
@@TURBOTRISTO sorry pal but if it didn't do anything Honda wouldn't of put tie bar there on the integra type r
The brace stops the rear subframe from being damaged when you run a big sway bar.
the rear of my EG was ruined this way.

@@rhlastnae5236 hahah I mean 99.9 % of civic owners fit the brace and no sway bar haha
The rear brace helps. There are videos showing proof. Less body roll........
impossible it doesnt connect the rear wheels at all, its only possible with a sway bar
@TURBOTRISTO I makes the frame of the car stronger and flex less..........
And a short throw shifter is for less travel distance of the shifter equalling faster shifting.
yes very aware, this one is junk and feels like crap, with out any gear box mods its just destroying synchros

I can understand why people might think that bar helps but it's not really attached to anything, does look cool though
Claire Willamson it sure does
no they aren't worth it unless you have the full exhaust a good clutch and a rear sway bar
Agree bro
Short shifter feels great!. Would recommend it.

also this brace have a very important purpose and even more than one
it works like strut brace but for LCA mounts not alowing subframe to flex under load
its not important for subframe to be braced for front back flexing because trailing arms are mounted pretty good
the most load it gets is from toe angle trying to push and pull left right so brace is literally for that flexing
its same as with f1 cars control arms these are very thin and dont look strong but its because these dont have any force applied to them trying to breake them in half but only push pull action
