    i feel speeding is not the main issue here, getting distracted and taking your eyes off the road are. cars can still roll when driving at 60 km/h in an 80 km/h zone if you take your eyes off and lose control of the car.

    • @ansell1335

      Then don't speed and keep your eyes on the road, why criticize a safe driving ad?

    • @Eddierayy0
      @Eddierayy0 3 роки тому +33

      @@ansell1335 because the ad doesn't align with the message its trying to achieve. If distractions while driving will cause you to drive off the road is the message it might make more sense. Everything was fine until he took his concentration off the road which is actually the leading cause in accidents. But its hard to justify that 5km/h over is "dangerous" so we will incorporate it in an ad and send the car off the road.

    • @pual160
      @pual160 2 роки тому +8

      That's a very simplistic view to justify your own speeding. Collisions are almost always a combination of factors, but the most common factor across them all is speed. If speed wasn't a factor the odds of distraction causing such an incident are much lower, though absolutely still possible. Every factor needs controlling, but speed is the most common factor (no one is suggesting the most common sole cause) and one of the easiest to control.

    • @matthewnorman9803
      @matthewnorman9803 Рік тому +1

      The sign said 80 not 60

    • @carnivorebear6582
      @carnivorebear6582 Рік тому +9

      @@pual160 Driving off the road as this driver did at either 80 or 85 will essentially have the same result. Clearly the major factor involved in this crash was not speed, but distraction. So showing him doing 85 to make the ad about speeding is non-sensical.
      Also consider that the speed limit applies in stormy weather at night just as it does on a sunny day. If 80 is an acceptable speed in wet weather at night then 85 is more than OK in the daytime. What is or isn't an appropriate speed for a portion of road isn't determined by a magical number. It's a combination of weather, road surface, hazards, traffic, physical properties of the vehicle (weight, level of grip from tyres, etc.) and more. Where a car is safe doing a certain speed a truck may not. If you are doing 80 in an 80 zone when the flow of traffic is doing 60, that's dangerous. Conversely doing 60 in an 80 zone when the flow of traffic is doing 80 is dangerous.

    Given the BF Falcon spedo is out by about 5% an indicated 85k/h means about 81k/h in reality. So yes he lost control and crashed because he was doing 81k/h in a 80 zone mind you in perfect dry and sunny conditions where both grip and visibility are at their highest. So if this is a true reflection then in poor conditions such as wet cold roads in dark this would of happened at 60, 50k/h or even less in an 80 zone.
    At first I thought this was just another piece of promotional propaganda that's being pushed, pressed and peddled to the public but then I remembered how trustworthy the Victorian government are and that the only conclusion must be that they are trying to warn us that Ford Falcons are bad, really really bad and unsafe and you shouldn't trust you and your family's life in one.

    TAC, you should have shown him slow down when he was distracted, which is what most drivers do. Speed wasn’t the issue here, as driving in that over corrective fashion will cause an out of control slide and/or roll at any speed fast enough to lose traction. Honestly, having been a rural commercial driver for 16 years, I can tell you EVERY learner driver should have to spend time in the cabin of a commercial vehicle, or some other professional driving field, so they learn how to deal with the most common accident initiators like this. For those who have never had this happen, if your wheels hit the gravel, don’t yank the wheel back the other way, ease your foot off the accelerator, gently turn the wheel to run parallel to the road, and as your speed decreases, turn slightly towards the sealed area to get back on the road. Brakes, sudden turns, taking the foot off the accelerator suddenly, will all make this scary but relatively harmless mistake into a near death experience.

    This ad is great, but the message is really stupid.
    Firstly, if a cop pulls and fines you for 5km/h over, he’s an arsehole who’s trying to meet his quota and really it should be illegal to do that.
    Second, most speedometers are between 3-5km/h out, so when you’re going “65” you’re actually doing about 60, maybe a touch more.
    Finally, you’re not going to roll your car because you’re going 5km/h over, you’re definitely going to roll your car if you’re an idiot and not looking at the road. Which is what this ad should have been about.
    I wish the resources of the TAC and other motoring bodies (that all usually do fantastic work) weren’t so heavily focused on preventing these minor crimes that are actually impossible for police to enforce, and instead focused on improving the skills of everyday drivers.
    Driving in Australia is a minefield of treachery. People darting in and out of lanes, people driving at 20 under the limit, cyclists riding 3 abreast, people becoming impatient and cutting oncoming traffic off... and that was just today. We need to be hammering in the basic skills of driving rather than focusing on this nitpicking, revenue raising shit that does nothing but line the pockets of the govt.

    I dont agree with excessive speed and dangerous driving but, I'm afraid This is one of the most pointless and frankly stupid PSA's Ive seen....sure.... everything explodes the moment you exceed the posted speed limit in Australia
    Australia needs to turn the focus away from such a heavy focus on overly managing the speedometer whilst driving caused by draconian speed laws and limits

    Literally the dumbest road safety ad I’ve seen.
    Pathetic trying to frame going 10km/h over the limit as the cause of this accident when it was clearly inattention/distraction.
    Unfortunately because policing mobile phone use/inattention/fatigue/drug and alcohol incapacitation is too hard and too expensive then go for the low hanging fruit trying to blame catastrophic accidents like the one portrayed as being caused by speed.

    This ad is bizarre. His speedo shows he is doing 85kmh which is probably about right on for 80kmh in an old Falcon or any modern car. The issue here is that he looks over at his wife's phone and proceeds to run off the road. Do these ads even have any effect on people any more especially when as annoying as this ad.

    My Australian Child goes for her probationary licence today and I do not think she should be driving home . I want her home alive.
    I was not free to teach her.
    The chief commissioner of the Victorian Police Force Shane Patton is at work getting Wealth for toil and superannuation whilst I am stuck on Centerlink payments that do not pay superannuation. I do not want to be on Centerlink payments I want my Wealth for toil but my tax dollars pay the CHEIF COMMISIONER how do I enrol to vote without Dishonoring the work of my Australian teachers between 1987-2000 with respect to Advance Australia Fair.
    That is oppressed in Australia.
    I am free to breath the air.
    I am not free to have a say unless I dishonur HRH Queen Elizabeth ii signature on the charter of the Commonwealth of 2013.
    It is Advance Australia Fair but as long as the chief commissioner is getting paid he does not care about Australian children's SAFTEY on the road. I wrote you a email I come to see you twice. Then 100 more emails.
    Just a collective disappointment 08/03/2023.

      tf does being on Centrelink payments have to do with road safety?
      Also, weird to be using the American spelled “center” for Centrelink, ya know?

    Thanks for setting off my PTSD with an unskippable advert with this restitched to jump cut over and over to the roll-over accident. Get your point across but try and think of trauma survivors before blatantly triggering them.
