i feel speeding is not the main issue here, getting distracted and taking your eyes off the road are. cars can still roll when driving at 60 km/h in an 80 km/h zone if you take your eyes off and lose control of the car.
@@ansell1335 because the ad doesn't align with the message its trying to achieve. If distractions while driving will cause you to drive off the road is the message it might make more sense. Everything was fine until he took his concentration off the road which is actually the leading cause in accidents. But its hard to justify that 5km/h over is "dangerous" so we will incorporate it in an ad and send the car off the road.
That's a very simplistic view to justify your own speeding. Collisions are almost always a combination of factors, but the most common factor across them all is speed. If speed wasn't a factor the odds of distraction causing such an incident are much lower, though absolutely still possible. Every factor needs controlling, but speed is the most common factor (no one is suggesting the most common sole cause) and one of the easiest to control.
@@pual160 Driving off the road as this driver did at either 80 or 85 will essentially have the same result. Clearly the major factor involved in this crash was not speed, but distraction. So showing him doing 85 to make the ad about speeding is non-sensical. Also consider that the speed limit applies in stormy weather at night just as it does on a sunny day. If 80 is an acceptable speed in wet weather at night then 85 is more than OK in the daytime. What is or isn't an appropriate speed for a portion of road isn't determined by a magical number. It's a combination of weather, road surface, hazards, traffic, physical properties of the vehicle (weight, level of grip from tyres, etc.) and more. Where a car is safe doing a certain speed a truck may not. If you are doing 80 in an 80 zone when the flow of traffic is doing 60, that's dangerous. Conversely doing 60 in an 80 zone when the flow of traffic is doing 80 is dangerous.
God, I had remembered seeing this PSA 2 years ago when I was 14. it traumatized me, hearing the children crying and blood trickling down from the drivers head, and the car rolling over. I live in Victoria, and this PSA is scary as it is true.
This ad totally misses the point. He was doing roughly 5 km/h over the speed limit could have safely been 90. He crashed because he swerved aggressively and lost control. His speed had nothing to do with it!
You’re not only more likely to make such a mistake at higher speeds, you’re also more likely to overcorrect it, more likely to crash as a result, and more likely to die in the end.
@ElmoLahti very true but it's quite a bad ad tbh, my most memorable road safety ads are ones that make you think and tell yourself you won't be that person, this ad clearly just made people make excuses and say "that wasn't the reason for them crashing" and didn't actually make them think about it.
He KILLED his wife and son. Traumatized his daughter for life who will blame him for the accident when she grows older. "My mum and brother are dead because of you! Idiot!!" His in laws will blame him. He may be even criminally charged for Vehicular Manslaughter. There is no escaping the consequences.
Given the BF Falcon spedo is out by about 5% an indicated 85k/h means about 81k/h in reality. So yes he lost control and crashed because he was doing 81k/h in a 80 zone mind you in perfect dry and sunny conditions where both grip and visibility are at their highest. So if this is a true reflection then in poor conditions such as wet cold roads in dark this would of happened at 60, 50k/h or even less in an 80 zone. At first I thought this was just another piece of promotional propaganda that's being pushed, pressed and peddled to the public but then I remembered how trustworthy the Victorian government are and that the only conclusion must be that they are trying to warn us that Ford Falcons are bad, really really bad and unsafe and you shouldn't trust you and your family's life in one.
TAC, you should have shown him slow down when he was distracted, which is what most drivers do. Speed wasn’t the issue here, as driving in that over corrective fashion will cause an out of control slide and/or roll at any speed fast enough to lose traction. Honestly, having been a rural commercial driver for 16 years, I can tell you EVERY learner driver should have to spend time in the cabin of a commercial vehicle, or some other professional driving field, so they learn how to deal with the most common accident initiators like this. For those who have never had this happen, if your wheels hit the gravel, don’t yank the wheel back the other way, ease your foot off the accelerator, gently turn the wheel to run parallel to the road, and as your speed decreases, turn slightly towards the sealed area to get back on the road. Brakes, sudden turns, taking the foot off the accelerator suddenly, will all make this scary but relatively harmless mistake into a near death experience.
