Thank God!! I'm so "happy" to see and hear that the horrendous vibration sound that my rg556 makes, is not due to a faulty device (0:41). Being used to the quality and smooth vibrations that the rg505 made, I was almost going to send it back back for a refund. Thank you so much for this video! The fact that only you and a Spanish lad have flagged this, is beyond my comprehension. Cheers!
@oOTheMastaOo240 my guess is that the design they chose was to move away from a separate grip concept. They also always launched their grips with the device which hasn't happened with the 5

My son is only 3 so he gets the RG nano lol! Your son is very lucky to get an RG556! Just got my email that retroid 5 is shipping. These videos have me super stoked to get it. 🤙🏽
I adore my 556. It is a nearly perfectly comfortable device. More comfortable than a switch, a steam deck…. It’s just lovely. It’s got loads of issues and power wise and stick wise the retroid devices from the 4 up are obviously better, but the 556 is a lovely device and involves much less hassle to get started with in my opinion
Great video comparison man, I’m still using the 556 for media use and PS2 gaming at 1x res until I get my hands on a RP5. Absolutely love the 556 just wish Anbernic didn’t just leave the stick issue for us to fix ourselves. That’s why I’m leaning towards Retroid now rather than Anbernic as a company. Love both their devices, going to miss the 556 grips.
The thing is if you like the RG556 I don't see why you should upgrade to the RP5. Sure you're getting more performance but you will miss those grips alot.
You don't hold the rp5 like this. You hold it like the vita, psp etc. That means it rests on the beginning of your index and middle fingers and not in the middle of your palm. The ergonomic bumps makes it far more comfortable with this grip.
Got my rp4 recently, im so in love with it. It feels great every time I pick it up. I can't stand grips that are smaller than an Xbox controller so the flat design works for me
#nonameavailable7858 RP4 Pro is way more powerful than Anbernic RG556. RP4 Pro has Dimensity 1100 which can play PS2 GameCube, Wii, DreamCast, Saturn, N64, all at full speed. And above 2X resolution at 3x even 4x resolution. And it can play Switch games and Wii U with ease. Anbernic RG556 has Unisoc T820 which is on par with RP4 base Dimensity 900 power wise in terms of hardware. And can play 80% of PS2 and GameCube at 1x but not 2x some PS2 games needs to be underclocked and tweaks to rune fine as for Wii Anbernic RG556 performance is subpar. And I doubt it can run Switch games and Wii U. For me I'd choose RP4 Pro!
I got an RG556 on sale from tik tok for $100 and just didn't get on with it so sold it on on ebay. Like you say the plastic feels cheap and it was just too big, given the size I thought I would be better off carrying around my steam deck. After all the ebay costs just broke even on it. My RP5 is currently on its way to me.
I actually sold my RG556 to help pay for the RP5😅 not looking back Edit: For the ergonomics, I put some "griptape" for stuff like a pc mouse on the back bumps and its a game changer!

Great video! I like that Retroid added some ergonomic touches this time around but I wish they leaned into it more. I love the overall screen size and weight, but since they have the Mini now I wish they had abandoned the "pocketability" of the 5 and just made it more comfortable. It's still much more comfortable than something like the Switch or even the Switch Lite, though. Either way, very happy with mine. Great screen, build quality, and performance.
I'm leaning in the other direction. I thought the other day... If only they had made it without bumps at the back and sold a separate grip as before ☺️
So happy you made this. All valid points. I just got the rg556 during Black Friday for $160. $230 for a device (RP5) that I'll mainly use to play GC and PS2 is too rich for my blood.
Got mine today. Glad the buttons are not as loud as I thought. Maybe even a little bit more silent than retroid flip. I wish they had bigger backplate though, my fingers are having a bad time after 30 mins of minecraft
Putting the stick on the bottom on the RP5 was a mistake given the power of the device. They should have put the stick on the top and maybe have a software based "cardinal snapping" functionality that you could toggle (similar to hair trigger function on some analog triggers) for retro gaming with the stick.
The thing is that I've already had comments from dpad centric gamers who love it. And the other thing I never though of is that the ergonomics are actually ideal for dpad centric gaming.

Yes. Maybe you just did something wrong with that initial setup. 3DS has always been fairly decent for me on the 556 and Cube. But Switch is a hit and miss affair, and like you said: lightweight titles are fine.
I bought RP4P during the Black Friday sell. I think for $150 it's a great choice even compared to $220 RP5. My primary stat I was looking for was portability.

I would actually love to do that. Especially all the talk of Switch 2 I think there will be a renewed interest in it. Although I doubt I will get to it this year. So maybe in the new year. I'm also keen on the mods you can get now for the switch lite
Adin, I feel like you need some sort of outro for your videos. Maybe your intro song again or something, I dont know. It feels weird when it just cuts out at the end. Just a suggestion! Love your content!

I will probably cancel my RP5 order because Retroid's logistics are pretty poor.... and I have no patience to wait form a month until my console is ready to ship. An Odin2 mini or RG556 seems like a better option

I OWN one of these and it charges and stays charged bettter with a OLD usb charger like sub 2volts
Hey Adin, I know we are all a bit unhappy with Nintendo as a company recently, but the Switch is awesome, and I know it's not a retro handheld but would you ever do a "Nintendo Switch in 2024" review video?
I would actually love to do that. Especially all the talk of Switch 2 I think there will be a renewed interest in it. Although I doubt I will get to it this year. So maybe in the new year. I'm also keen on the mods you can get now for the switch lite
The Breakcore Handheld
Adin, I feel like you need some sort of outro for your videos. Maybe your intro song again or something, I dont know. It feels weird when it just cuts out at the end. Just a suggestion! Love your content!
First the comparison between the RP4P and the ARG556 and now this.
Someone called Adin should start looking into becoming a very specific Anbernic spokesperson.
The RG556 Ambassador.
19:52 Oh. Looks like I was wrong.
Haha.
So I have a question where can you get legit Nintendo switch rooms at whenever I post on Reddit they delete my post and say not allowed to make a post about current GEN ROMs but everywhere I’ve looked to find switch rooms there either got malware or viruses on them so I don’t want to buy a Nintendo switch to dump the games that defeats the purpose. I’m just looking for a place that you can legitimately gets ROMs that will actually work better for viruses and malware. Does anybody know of anywhere or am I screwed not gonna be able to get any cause I keep seeing people on his videos playing switch games obviously how are they getting the roms and where at?
They are using games they bought and backed up with a hacked switch
@ Is anybody else having trouble with the dolphin emulator down loading gecko codes every time I try to download the cheat codes on it says failed to download failed to connect to server and nobody seems to be of help on the dolphin website or Reddit I don’t know how to get this thing to work as anybody else experiencing this with a dolphin emulator any solutions
What rooms are you talking about? And why do you want roms that work better for viruses and malware? 🤔
I will probably cancel my RP5 order because Retroid's logistics are pretty poor.... and I have no patience to wait form a month until my console is ready to ship.
An Odin2 mini or RG556 seems like a better option
It's not so much that their logistics are poor but just the way pre-orders go. And if you aren't keen on waiting, the Odin 2 mini is a great alternative?
I got my RP5 a few days ago (preordered it back on September 10th) and it was worth the wait. Upgraded from an RG353P and all I can say is the Retroid is utterly brilliant.
@@adinwalls I guess Im a bit disappointed that my RP5 is not going to arrive before christmas but a few more days waiting hasn't killed anyone... well except if you are waiting for a transplant but that is not the case
Team RG556 😀
I have always made the best choice in life
Retroid for me
RP5 was expensive in my country 300 to 400 dollar compare to 556 200 dollar price
Wow
I wanted to get the 556 a while back, but then I decided against it, and was happy with my Powkiddy X55 and Linux, and it was good that I didn't because after 7 years of waiting I finally got my Nintendo Switch 2 weeks ago, the Nintendo Switch Lite Hyrule Edition more importantly...🎮👍♥️
Lol I thought you said you got a Switch 2 and I was like, wait did I miss a news cycle! Haha. Cool I'm glad you got that lovely device.
@adinwalls lol, I wish I got a Switch 2, but I think about a year to early for that...🤣. Anyway, I seriously love your content, and so cool having a famous South African Retro Gaming Handheld UA-camr out there. 😁👍🎮♥️
Uh, oh!
Chewie?
You really should'nt be teething on plastics at your age, sonny!
😅
Why would you choose that thing over the rp5😂you have to be powdering your nose to much😂
Lol
I’m a Joystick Bottom team.
I prefer to think of myself as a D-Pad on top kind of Guy.
I play for both teams...
@ Yeah exactly! I mean, it just makes sense using the joystick at the bottom , is not nearly as uncomfortable as using the D-pad in the bottom.
I'm joystick top team. Bottom team is if you wanna play nes - snes.
Top team is for ps1+
