I remember having (might still have it) a Dorothy doll when I was little. I looked it up and it’s a Barbie brand.
The only thing different about mine was that she had a button on her back where when you pressed it she would say character quotes and these lights in her feet would light up to light up her shoes.

I got that one too when I was little! That was the earlier Dorothy doll than this one. She came out in 2000.

In the oz spinoff series I'm working on I plan on including the good Wich of the North

In the book Dorothy’s dress is described as faded from many washings

You are absolutely correct! While I would love a Barbie line based off of the books, I doubt the choice of fabric with this Dorothy doll was a reference to Baum's original text.

Thank for this. I got enthused and bid on the 1995 Dorothy barbie yesterday, didn't win in the last 5 mins unfortunately, but that's ok. I'll scoop one up at some point. Want to get the 1995 for the box and dress, and buy a 2006 doll for the face sculpt which looks more like Judy Garland. ; )
Was talking to you earlier, (here), and I did buy the porcelain wicked witch, and am thoroughly enthralled with her. Bought a $70. display case to put her in so there's ample room for her cape and hat. She is now a centerpiece of my doll collection. : )

That's too bad you got outbid! The Hollywood Legends outfit is the best. I completely understand why you'd want it over the other ones. It's strange Mattel hasn't been able to capture Judy's likeness on Barbie, since the Timeless Treasures Dorothy looks so much like Judy.
Congrats on getting the Timeless Treasures Wicked Witch! She's one of the best Wicked Witch dolls out there if you want one that captures Margaret Hamilton's likeness. Watch out for direct sunlight though. Her black dye used for her outfit will fade, and it could potentially fade strangely. I've seen ones that have an almost burgundy look to them from being bleached by the sun.

Around this time, Mattel did a line of Disney Princess dolls that had pearlescent skin. I wonder if Dorothy's shiny dress is related to that decision somehow?

Maybe? What's so weird is how the other dolls in this line don't use the same fabric as Dorothy's dress.

I believe that since the dolls are collector editions that is the reason that Dorothy’s arms do not bend. As with typical collector Barbie’s those without sleeves don’t get bendable arms as you would see the joint. However dolls with sleeves tend to get the bendable arms as you cannot see the joints. The later editions of the dolls tend to be the same as well with the witches bendable arms and Dorothy’s locked in place. They look good as a collectors piece like this but it does get to get annoying especially for stop motion films. That’s what I use her for for my videos and that seems to be the only set back on her.

Well that makes sense! I wouldn't have thought esthetics is what the designers were after, but then again, I'm not a big Barbie collector. I really like dolls that have articulation, but I understand that's not to everyone's taste.

@@LAQuadling I understand that, they are diffidently better when they have more articulation
