When viewing the party you can hover over the one you want to control: On PC: The default key is R. On controller: It's Y or Triangle You should hear an audio cue and a flag signaling that the character has been selected. To switch the default character you want to use to fight: On PC: You select the character with Space then hover over the character on the far left slot (Usually Velvet) and hit Enter to switch their places. On controller: Use Down on the D-Pad to select the character then hover over the character on the far left slot (Usually Velvet) and press A or X to switch their places. The first one explained is the character you want to see outside of fights. While the latter is the character you want to default to when a fight starts. However, all this is for Tales of Berseria. In other Tales of games, you may need an item or have progressed far enough into the story to choose what character you want to control (ex. Tales of Vesperia where you can choose the character you want to use in a fight but can't choose a character outside of battle). Also, you need to have at least 2 characters in the party. If you have multiple controllers you can have other people controlling characters in battle. Ex. Player 1 controls Velvet while Player 2 controls Rokurou. Hopefully, this answers your question.
Eleanor is just a compilation of why you need a Paladin in a party of chaotic neutral characters
Exactly.
Honestly, as much as I love her a chaotic neutral only party is much more appealing, the chaos is very much homely
