I thought that such people would be attacked and denounced by everyone around them, yet you know my mother she let it be and forgave me “Nothing can be done for now, rest and regain store up your strength slowly and steadily” Is what she told me. To forgive what should normally never be forgiven, to acknowledge and permit that weakness of others and be there for them at the same time, I felt that saves people it emancipates them. I felt like packing these thoughts and feelings into my work” --- I figure that this is the reason why Mushoku Tensei revolves so much around family and growth. I figure that this is why it has so much passion, heart, and emotion. I figure that through this insight in his own life, he was able to let the story write itself.
I think that quote from his interview really says a lot about what he is trying to get across in Mushoku Tensei. In essence MT ended up conveying the same emotional journey he himself went on. Beautiful analysis. The core theme of Mushoku Tensei is probably "People Change", two simple words, that is incredibly hard to execute. To have people change, they need to be deeply flawed in the first place, guaranteed to offend many people, who hate to be reminded of human flaws. To make that change natural, the story needs to be massively long. Short stories only ever get those "That event changed me forever" moments, elegant but unrealistic, rather than the slow accumulation of little realizations which is what drives change in reality. To make the changes meaningful and deep, the writer needs to be very talented, else we get teenage melodrama. Its incredible to see this work adapted, I fell into love on the very first episode, and when I thought I couldn't possibly be more hyped, my expectations just keep getting beaten every few episodes. I've just started the Light Novel, and I'd say I can already see the added depth there will be throughout, really excited about it. And that's a fair point, but either way I'd say it showcases brilliant writting. Wether he was capable of detailed planing that flows this naturally, or natural growth that avoided losing track of its direction, I'd be in awe of both.
Great video, man. Like most people, I thought Mushoku Tensei was going to be a trash anime, but the more the story went on, the more I fell in love with the show. The world, the characters, and the world building all felt beautiful and natural at the same time. It may be considered trash by some, but to me, Mushoku Tensei is one of the best anime of all time.
I'm reading through the light novels at the moment, and can't wait to see what's coming next, MT is just one of those stories that grows on you the more you see of it.
Zennith best mom, for now. also, cool stuff about her backstory that might show up later but i doubt it; After escaping her noble family Zennith fell for Paul, and since he wasn't a gud cristian boy (aka, millis follower) she was trying to get him to setle down one way or another, she eventually asked Gisu to learn how to cook, then she won Paul by the stomach and intentionally got pregnant cuz she knew Paul would settle down for it. Ater the 2 core members leaving the party fell appart, that's why the horni elf and the dwarf hate paul. That's why Gisu refused to teach Eris how to cook. That's also why only she was so mad at him for "cheating", since poligamy is the default for both Paul, Lilia, and everyone around, she was basically enforcing her relligion on them. She even points out herself how that was hypocrite since she was the one who abandoned Millis's costumes to follow Paul.
It's this kind of detail and added context that makes me excited to finally be going into the novels. That right there just makes everyone involved much more compelling, because the story isn't trying to portray just one side, but giving us reasons to understand everyone involved.
When this was first announced to be an anime I never heard of it before but after thoroughly enjoying up to episode 8 of part 2 I decided to start the LN's and man I wasn't expected this serious to become my favorite anime/LN series of all time [easily competing with my other favourites being HxH and the monogatari series]. Turning point 4 honestly took a 9.5/10 story and made it a 10/10 and the content of volume 15 is absolutely peak fiction. I've decided against reading the web novel since I'm not a fan of the translation [and since it skips some elements] but currently up to volume 18 and waiting for 19 and 20 to get released and it's such an incredible series and I can't wait for volume 15 to be animated although that will most likely be a season 3. The first 24 episodes and heck even the first part of the upcoming season 2 are thoroughly "prologues" for the actual content of the series and I think people are going to be pleasantly surprised when season 3 finally begins in earnest.
Yes, it's quickly become one of my all time favorites as well, I am not yet fully caught up with the LN, but I am slowly adding it to my collection. Its probably my favorite series to make videos on because of just how much there is to every single detail, every single chapter or episode.
Wow, this is a really, really good review of the series. As a fan of the series for about 5 to 6 years now since the early days of its WN to rifujin finnaly deciding he will write the LN, I've been captivated by this series due to not only building up the world slowly but making sure that every sort of information will be given clearly and can be comprehended easily by the readers, and as you've mentioned the aspect of characters changing in this story is moreso a small scale battle within themselves rather than a conflict being set up that needs to be cleared and when it's cleared the reward will be for a more grandiose effect, the fact that MT has characters that are flawed as hell but are still humans is what makes the payoff of their development feel really, really good to the viewers, greatest example at the moment would be Paul and rudeus, even tho we can say both are scum, both are still humans that can change. The fact that rudy even recognizes his mistakes and is making a move to change it is already a big step for him, since in the past he knew he needed to change but his body wouldn't keep up with his idea. That's why for me I don't see why people really hates on rudeus so much and even being treated as a pedo, even tho they didn't even put into consideration the fact that he's not a full grown adult, yes he is indeed an adult physically but his mental capacity is that of 13 to 14 years old at most since he stopped going to school at the start of his middle school, right after he was reincarnated he couldn't know whether his actions were right or wrong morally speaking, but the fact that after he does something wrong and takes a move to change it right away is what really makes me love him. Also Zenith best girl.
Thank you. I'm only now delving into the LN, but I'm sure it will make me even more of a fan of his work. All these details we see in their character writing are likely only to be expanded upon more in the LN. His inner conflict, his relationships with those around him and so on. While Rudeus does display off putting behaviour sometimes, what has endeared me to his character has always been the self reflection. No one hates Rudeus for what he does than himself, more often than not MT portrays him trying to better himself, over and over again. I think in a lot of ways, being able to forgive a lot of what characters do in Mushoku is a study on empathy. Everyone gets their side shown, and its up to us to try and understand how they came to act that way. I've just been made aware of how Paul and Zenith got together, and it made paul so much more compelling. That kind of thing shows how much care is put into every small detail. And yes, she is haha
@@Ayvhel Oh I'm certain you're gonna love it, especially since you're gonna be able to go deeper into some stuff like for example on what the anime has given right now, how laplace was sealed(or at the very least a single part of it), the superds history, who is kishirika kishirisu, who was the dude that stared drwob and scared a dragon and side stories that was not covered by the anime but shows the POV of other future important characters during the fittoa mana incident. Oh also I will I form you that the story of MT itself isn't finished yet, only the story of rudeus has concluded, rifujin is not writing the continuation of the story of the six sided world yet because, they're still working on finishing MT LN which is like 2 to 3 volumes away from finishing, and they're also working on ORC HERO which is another work by them and they're gonna finish it to both the WN and LN of it before continuing on writing the sequel.
Didn't see your reply before but, now that I've read up to the end of the anime in the LN, I can definitely tell you I love it all. And I'm kind of sad some of the good stuff in it wasn't adapted. Even though it's mostly small scenes, I still think they add so much. Would you say Orc hero is worth checking out as well? Either way, I'm really glad I've started on the Light Novel, even started collecting it as well. Can't wait to see what's to come.
@@Ayvhel hmmm..... BTW its not orc hero, its orc eroica I dont know why my keyboard auto corrected it to that. I guess it's worth but it's not as good as MT yet, and I doubt it will since it seems its more of an expirimental work that makes him practice/prepare for the contents of the sequel of MT.

Not really think that this is a gradener type of storry since only the best of that type make it to the end while most write themself into a dead end that reqire drastic steps to put it back on track if it hapens at all. Take Re Zero for Example, By the end of arc 3 Rem overshadowed every other female character to the point that she needed to be taken off stage for a looooooooong time to give other characters a chance to get enogh spotlight. to gis credit its author had the skill to pull that off most simply end in the webnovel stage when they realize there is no easy way to pull it off belivable. An oposite example is Acendence of a bookworm were the author map out major plotpoint in advance and build characters to further that plot between every given major turning point. By Knowing the exact end of the storry and knowing how the chracter is suposed to be at the given milestones its much easyer to limit runaway pasion for a certain plotpoint or character that either unbalace or overshadow.
I mean fair point, however both ways I'd say this would be as impressive. If he managed to plan it out to detail, and make it flow that naturally, that takes great skill. And if he managed to let it grow as he wrote, and was skilled enough to understand what to avoid, that is just as impressive to me. Although just as Martin said, I'd say all stories end up a blend of both. The thing about Re:Zero is that I think each arc by itself was definitely planned out in advance, but sometimes on the transition between arcs, there does seem to be some cleanup work to make it flow better. Of course there is a lot of asuming here, as none of us were there to watch either of them write. Overall those are fair points to make, thank you for the comment!

and I believe this story leans more in the architect than the gardener.
My thoughts exactly, I understand it can be hard to get into at first, but it's such a ride.
finished the WN and I just love how the theme of growth and family is weaved out so well
I'm reading through the light novels at the moment, and can't wait to see what's coming next, MT is just one of those stories that grows on you the more you see of it.
Zennith best mom, for now.
also, cool stuff about her backstory that might show up later but i doubt it;
After escaping her noble family Zennith fell for Paul, and since he wasn't a gud cristian boy (aka, millis follower) she was trying to get him to setle down one way or another, she eventually asked Gisu to learn how to cook, then she won Paul by the stomach and intentionally got pregnant cuz she knew Paul would settle down for it.
Eh. By the looks of it, I'd say this will appear in the anime, eventually
@@noambracha2495 maye? I think that even if it does, it will probably be "brushed off" like how Lilia's was...
@@slippy47 Got it, got it. For now I'll stick to Mushoku Light Novel then, and as soon as I'm done with it and a few more things line up I'll think about it
Yeah you can feel the world spinning and Rudy giving his best to adapt to it. All of us people who passed the "selection" period of the first episodes can enjoy this master piece.
And yeah Zenith is best girl (mom), but to me is Eris no doubts of it
I think it's exactly the fact that the world "fights back" and forces him to adapt that makes it all work.
New Mushoku videos are always welcome :D
Btw Zenith best girl.
A true man of culture!
I haven't watched the anime so, no idea... But I will say I am actually here for your analysis of stories. Your interpretations of author intent and story purposes always get me thinking and inspire me to continue working on my own personal project of 13 years... one day it will be done but I have seasons of productive story writing and not. Thanks for being a great analyst and critical thinker.
Thank you, its always great to hear feedback from you guys, I'll keep striving to do this to the most of my abilities. And good luck with your project! Keep working on it, don't get discouraged, you keep pushing and I'm sure you'll pull through!
What great video, I really wish more people would see this is a character study with a flawed MC and not just brand it with the P word and miss a wonderful story.
Yep, I agree completely, yet the same people don't talk about other massively flawed characters like that. Never one heard that death note is "genocidal-bait"
Zenith best girl? Sure but roxy is best goddess.
Anyway, your scripts are actually god-tier, man. You deserve much more views.
I can't argue with the truth. And thank you, the support means a lot!
8:50 and is the creepy face that rudy got stuck with from his mom... He will never lose it...
He does resemble Zenith a lot, but with his fathers eye color.
@@Ayvhel I am talking about that grin. It will be referenced a lot, well mainly in the light novel, on how creepy it is.
@@lordjaraxxus5418 I've seen it referenced a bit early on, I think it was on the Lilia chapter, but I'm still mid-way through the first novel.
I have a love hate relationship with videos like this. Fantastic analysis, I honestly almost teared up and I got chills from it...
That said, I can't go back to watching my shitty crap isekai right after this because I feel insulted by what little depth they have in comparison lol
Thank you! And my bad for that lol, I guess you'll be stuck chasing peak fiction now.
Very nice video man, I enjoyed watching it and listening what you have to say. Your analysis is spot on. Mushoku Tensei is life.
Thank you! This is my favorite video I've done yet, so I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
A really beautiful video explaining mushoku tensei really nailed it.
Thank you! I'm just trying to get better at it one video at a time.

Are you gonna read the novel after the anime? If so, are you gonna make a video about it?
Ngl, I really like your video. Anyway, Zenith best girl
I just started reading, and since I'm noticing there is a bit more depth, and with how much I'm enjoying the series, I know I want to get back to it sometime soon. And thank you!
I'm down for Zenith! She's so cute in the anime (I guess the LN, too), but Eris has my heart.
Eris is a good pick, but I gotta stay on team Zenith all the way.
Iru shout out 😱😱
Yeah, had to shout out the GOAT
Zeni..... Noooo Roxy! Actually Eris is slowly becoming my favorite, she's changed soo much, I love seeing her happy/excited and she's soooo BADASS.

I'm beginning to realize Zenith is actually the best girl. Also Aisha best bro-con Imouto!
Zenith is best girl
really she is after that milis chapter
Well... Everyone has bad moments... Can't really argue tho, pretty fucked up.
Eris is best girl...so far...judging only by anime content (so Season 1).
She got the most development...starting from episode 5 till the end of episode 23.
She has, and as a novel reader I can tell you it doesn't end here. Overall, her development is a great embodiment of change in this series.
i think you are the only person other than me that thinks that zenith is best girl!!
i always loved that story and to this day it still blows my mind that its a prelude to the actual "main" even of that world!!
Well you have good taste 😂
I'm loving it every step of the way, can't wait for what's to come.

Why settle for three? haha
You've seen the real best girl already. You just don't know it yet.
I'm curious now 👀
Eris best girl. Idk how you could see a girl with such a strong fiery zeal and passion for adventure, for growth, for wonder, for being unashamedly herself and her own unique person, and even for being an equal and loving partner, and not want that.
I hear you, but... Zenith literally means "the highest point", or in other words, the "peak". So how could she not be?
@@Ayvhel Are you advocating for the mommy gf route? Is this really the route you wanna go down?
Zenith is best girl, that said the anime and manga have both cut out all the chapters from her POV that go more in depth fleshing out her character and her relationship with her family before she met Paul so you might wanna check out the novels to better understand her.
Yeah, thanks. I've started on the LN recently, and as always there is a lot cut out when adapting to anime, even though I still think it works well enough as is.
@@Ayvhel yes and no, most of the time the things cut aren't a big deal but abridging things like ruijerd's past was a bad move, both novel version and the manga made that part especially chilling but watching the anime it didn't hit as hard...
On that I'll have to agree, but I also think its hard to adapt that kind of scene into anime, as the image we create in our mind can be hard to match.
@@Ayvhel the manga did it well enough tbh and it did show the imagery, I just hope we eventually get an ova about ruijerd's past cause they did him dirty cutting out what he went through and why it is so important for him to protect children after what he unknowingly did to his own family......
@@Drakno2 True, its one of the most important moments that define his character, so it should have been treated with the importance it deserves.

Zenith is good. But Roxy and Silphy will stay young for looooooooong!
Wait... But Zenith is younger than Roxy 🤔
@@Ayvhel Well, Roxy was in her 30's when she met Rudy. Even if she's younger, than not much, maybe a few years. And Migurds not show signs of age before 150, so she'll keep her looks, and cuteness.
And Sylphie is a half elf. Age slow, stay young for a few hundred years.
Zenith only top tier for a human.
