Well, the real power of this is when we start getting 360 movies to watch, not just flat movies. I shoot 360 video in 5.7K now (and watch it on my Go), and am anxious to see how it looks on the Quest 2 (on order). I've also got my eyes on an 8K 360 camera. I'll be chatting with Santa about that.
Good selection, I've tried most of them but I think by far the best virtual environments are the ones on Virtual Desktop, the "home theatre" one in particular. Quite like the fancy downtown apartment one too. Can't watch movies at home any other way now.
Watching movies on Quest 1 was a very good experience, spent many hours in BigScreen VR. Quest 2 obviously bring higher fidelity optics so its better, but by no means is Quest 1 unenjoyable, especially when sat down relaxing. I agree amazon prime video in VR is actually very good. Skybox is the best for local video files on your network. There is also UA-cam which is excellent too. Have to use my Quest 2 money to help my elderly mom this month, but I'll save up enough for my birthday in 2 months time to join you folks in the VR fun.
One thing about skybox that the developers think is a feature but bugs the hell out of me is, the viewers are not aiming at the center of the screen, it always feels like the screen is not aligned to you. So if feels like you're sitting in the first row of the cinema.
Go was close to being good enough in terms of screen quality but the screen door would pull me out sometimes, you felt it just needed a few more lines of horizontal resolution. So I'm confident that quest 2 will be the end of any immersion breaking screen door effect in films. I imagine it will appear to be be no more than a subtle texture on the screen.
SkyBox is my go to movie app. I can easily watch movies that are stored in my network computer. Watching movies in SkyBox in Quest 1 is already pretty good. Can't wait to see the difference in Quest 2. Thanks for the video.
@@GSG-io8zp Search on google for "sexlikereal" to see what it is about and than later you can access it directly from an Oculus Quest 2 app called DeoVR which you download from the Quest Store and type in the URL address within the app's internal browser at the top. It is a paid service but totally worth it. It has tousends of videos from over 100 studios plus you can even buy individual clips if you don't want to make a subscription. An account is necessary to do that. In the app you get a few free super short samples before asking you to subscribe. Here is their youtube channel. You can watch some safe clips using the UA-camVR app from the Quest Store. Watch some of them on your PC first to be able to find them easily in your account history because the browsing and searching in the UA-camVR app isn't very ideal. ua-cam.com/channels/QlQAyXBisHYq926vxF2RtQ.html Other then that you can download VR videos from the popular free XXX sites but you will need to upload them to your Quest internal storage and watch them with a VR videoplayer app because you can't play them directly from the Oculus Quest 2 browser because the free sites don't have WebXR plug-in so to run them directly in VR. The quality is lower also.
it will be so amazing when i can buy this headset because i love watching movies and i love going to the cinemas with friends but because of corona and low money i can't afford to go and watch new movies all the time but it will/would be so amazing to get me and my best friend on vr meet up in a virtual cinema and watch a horror movie together and look and talk to each other just like in the real place. i really hope its as amazing as it sounds
Not owning a vr set (yet😉) I have a question which may sound silly for those who already have one: what’s it like watching 3D movies like i.e. Avatar in vr? Do you see it as 3D? When I watched Avatar at thee cinema I needed to wear special glasses to have a 3d experience...
I just got my quest 2 and although its very impressive when watching a well lit vibrant scene, the lack of shadows on the new display makes any dark scenes look absolutely terrible and it also completely destroys the saturation in the image too. It looks like you're watching a movie in a room thats filled with smoke.
Yep. I returned mine and kept my Quest 1. Unfortunately it seems all major headsets are switching to those shitty cheap LCD screens so...I hope Samsung will figure out a way to make cheaper RGB OLEDs because once you go OLED you definitely don't want to go back.
@@Requiemes Its the same playing games with dark scenes, It's literally like a grey haze over everything and the colours are desaturated or atleast it creates the illusion that the colours are desaturated. Such a shame because the quality would be perfect if you could just increase the shadows.
The first person to talk about media on The Quest 2, thank you. I was so surprised by how much I watched movies on my Quest and can't wait to get back to it on the quest 2! Skybox is mind blowing
Great video! I'm just wondering what the differences will be between watching movies on my 1080p monitor vs watching them on the oculus quest 2? Which is better?
I think if you get the movie screen close enough so that it fills most of your vision it should look close to 2K/1080p. However the big benefit over your monitor is that it's 3D so you can watch 3D movies. And they'll be close to full resolution 3D since the Oculus Quest 2's resolution is 1832x1920 PER EYE!
THAT IS SO COOL Bruh thats so cool not gonna lie Imagine them adding hand tracking in half life alyx if they will ever add it to The oculus store. You’re the best i just want to pre order it to play saints and sinners i cant wait.
3D movies take a bit of work to convert from Blu-ray for the headset, but look amazing. No crosstalk and the image is very clear. Quest 2 is a great 3D cinema experience. I tried this on PSVR, but the screen door effect and drift ruined the experience. No issues like that on Quest 2.
Not really because of you need a facebook account and I don't want a facebook account also that you need a visa card to buy games and you need to buy accessories for comfort
@@_strive I'm loving it! The Quest 2 is the best VR headset I've owned since owning the former Oculus Q1 and Go. It's higher resolution (with almost no screen door effect) and fast cpu makes watching 3D movies a pure delight! I was initially worried about the audio as a lot of people were saying it's the same tinny sound as on the Q1 - but I have to disagree! The audio on the Q2 is definitely improved over the Q1, I would say it's on a par with the Go in my opinion. Even though I bought it primarily for watching 3D movies it's fantastic for gaming too! And the best thing is... using it without worrying about cables!
ive not tried laying down, sitting down works fine, but if you lay down, you will be horizontal, and it may confuse things, even oif you hold home button to reset the position, your own equilibrium in your head won't like it, but ive not tried it yet! btw Elvis had a tv in his cieling.
One solution when making these screen quality comparison videos is, lowering the resolution on the older device. Works every time, just don't tell your audience. :)
Don’t forget UA-cam VR which has movies to rent. It’s not a cinema experience, but still well done. Amazon Prime VR is my go to right now to enjoy a movie. Big screen is really cool, but has a very limited movie selection. Looking forward to watching on the Q2!
Cast your mac...yeah that would be a nice thing to add...l wish they could come up with a way for two people to share a headset lol...vr is amazing but its very isolating ..sad days ahead if it gets so advanced people prefer vr over real life....oculus 2 is a decent low price tho...
Actually, if you freeze the video and compare if using at least 1080p res there is a huge difference in detail. That means an even bigger difference when actually viewing through the Q2.
It's a flawed video though. The title implies its a proper review of the OQ2 video playing capabilities. Instead its a fairly simplistic lowdown on how OQ2 > OQ1 for video, this kind of makes me think duuuuh really? What I wanna know is: 1) Does it do 10 bit video? 2) Does it do HDR? 3) At what point does a video res increase become invisible due to OQ2's display limitations? These are all salient questions for reviewing video playback purposes. Its pointless to say that video is better for OQ2 > OQ1 when this is well outlined in the OQ2 feature set already - I want to know how it compares to watching on a big TV, a projector, a cinema etc etc.
I really like Bigscreen, but I rarely sit for an entire movie. Virtual Desktop is a great option for watching movies in VR. I'm going to stick with my original Quest until its absolutely necessary to upgrade or another manufacturer comes out with something better.
It's looks great to watch movies on especially with the elite strap! Edit: No i do not have the headset what I meant was that it seemed great with the elite strap as everyone says the original strap isn't great. Sorry for the inconvenience XD.
Honestly think if you get a battery pack and there's a bunch of people who have a quest they can all participate and maybe like a virtual concert or something

Watch some of them on your PC first to be able to find them easily in your account history because the browsing and searching in the UA-camVR app isn't very ideal. ua-cam.com/channels/QlQAyXBisHYq926vxF2RtQ.html
Other then that you can download VR videos from the popular free XXX sites but you will need to upload them to your Quest internal storage and watch them with a VR videoplayer app because you can't play them directly from the Oculus Quest 2 browser because the free sites don't have WebXR plug-in so to run them directly in VR. The quality is lower also.
So so excited for BigScreen on the new Quest 2!!! Great video. Thanks!!
It's funny to think that, in actuality , The "big screen" is actually a few inches height and width lol.
size is relative
@@alanssnack1192 size doesn’t exist
@@TommyTom21 this is getting really deep and philosophical... and I love it
it will be so amazing when i can buy this headset because i love watching movies and i love going to the cinemas with friends but because of corona and low money i can't afford to go and watch new movies all the time but it will/would be so amazing to get me and my best friend on vr meet up in a virtual cinema and watch a horror movie together and look and talk to each other just like in the real place. i really hope its as amazing as it sounds
I have an oculus Go and watching movies on this device is a nightmare.
Will there be a virtual disney+ ?
Not owning a vr set (yet😉) I have a question which may sound silly for those who already have one: what’s it like watching 3D movies like i.e. Avatar in vr? Do you see it as 3D? When I watched Avatar at thee cinema I needed to wear special glasses to have a 3d experience...
Bigscreen is fudging amazing!
Been using it for years on my HTC Vive.
I once fell asleep during a Star Wars marathon. Lol. Good times.
Omg, i can’t wait to watch movies in the bed really late at night and have my own little theater!
Yeah I've been doing that with my PSVR for a few years so I've bought so many 3-D Blu-rays it's great
Yes ! I just got an Oculus Quest 2 . This is DEF the future for media viewing in general
THAT IS SO COOL
Bruh thats so cool not gonna lie
Imagine them adding hand tracking in half life alyx if they will ever add it to
The oculus store. You’re the best i just want to pre order it to play saints and sinners i cant wait.
Epic
Hopefully it happens
I’m hoping mods come in clutch or something similar. I’d much rather use SideQuest and SteamVR rather than buying things through Oculus
Yeah you’re right
3D movies take a bit of work to convert from Blu-ray for the headset, but look amazing. No crosstalk and the image is very clear. Quest 2 is a great 3D cinema experience. I tried this on PSVR, but the screen door effect and drift ruined the experience. No issues like that on Quest 2.
Oculus quest 2 will be the headset to rule them all
It is alresdy... and we dont even have it yet 😂
Yea
I wish
It totally would be
Had it not been for the FB requirement
Not really because of you need a facebook account and I don't want a facebook account also that you need a visa card to buy games and you need to buy accessories for comfort
@@emanuelzavala9541 but the specs are better than most and the price... oh the price...
thanks for this video because it answered a question I needed an answer for :)
Great video!! I absolutely love big screen on the quest 1 so I can’t wait to see the difference on the quest 2!!
Where i find this app ? please tell me
Really thinking about buying a Quest 2 for extra workout and watching TV shows and movies.
smart would be good for that.
VR is the "Killer Tech" for 3D Movies! ;0)
Can you watch from blue ray 3D on quest 2?
Apple VR needs to get here ASAP. Rumors are saying it’s hard to tell the difference from reality. 🤯
I want mine to come in right now
Same! I can hardly wait!!!
@@goodnightkiwi how you liking your vr so far?
@@goodnightkiwi wow what a nice review. Thanks a lot I’m just so excited cause mine is coming in tmrw.
@@_strive i'm sure you'll love it! 👍
Thanks! For perspective, the digital screens at movie theaters are not OLED either, so no true blacks there either.
When I Get Mine I Will Lay Down And Watch Movies😂
ive not tried laying down, sitting down works fine, but if you lay down, you will be horizontal, and it may confuse things, even oif you hold home button to reset the position, your own equilibrium in your head won't like it, but ive not tried it yet! btw Elvis had a tv in his cieling.
What a time to be alive. The Quest 2 combined with the elite strap and a slick and decent power bank should be a beast
Me waiting for him to become the official home of everything quest
Exactly the video I was looking for!
Hey man would you recommend it as a solid upgrade to the q1? I’m buying one literally just to watch movies..
You should play games vr gaming is not a gimmick
Bigscreen is AMAZING! I love watching movies with strangers and casually throwing popcorn or tomatoes at people and pissing them off lol
I wonder how VR movies are while high
Oh god... 😂
I'm so excited, my Quest 2 comes in tomorrow.
How you liking your vr so far? Mine comes in tmrw
@@_strive I love it!
This is great! Can I cast my Mac yet? 😫
Cast your mac...yeah that would be a nice thing to add...l wish they could come up with a way for two people to share a headset lol...vr is amazing but its very isolating ..sad days ahead if it gets so advanced people prefer vr over real life....oculus 2 is a decent low price tho...
I have Harold and Kumar 3d Christmas ready to go :)
I have watched the whole video but my most important question is: does the Netflix app on Quest 2 support at least a FHD stream?
No: (
Actually, if you freeze the video and compare if using at least 1080p res there is a huge difference in detail. That means an even bigger difference when actually viewing through the Q2.
You actually made me purchase the Quest 2! Great video dude :D I will subscribe
It's a flawed video though.
The title implies its a proper review of the OQ2 video playing capabilities.
Instead its a fairly simplistic lowdown on how OQ2 > OQ1 for video, this kind of makes me think duuuuh really?
What I wanna know is:
1) Does it do 10 bit video?
2) Does it do HDR?
3) At what point does a video res increase become invisible due to OQ2's display limitations?
These are all salient questions for reviewing video playback purposes.
Its pointless to say that video is better for OQ2 > OQ1 when this is well outlined in the OQ2 feature set already - I want to know how it compares to watching on a big TV, a projector, a cinema etc etc.
It will also naturally look clearer due to it being an LCD screen (although you lose the OLED screen’s perfrect black levels)
is that the only disadvantage with OLEDs?
As far as i know, yes, but it might be more regarding the production and stuff idk
Can you confirm that waching quest 1 is like 720p and quest 2 is like 1080p. The feel throught The lenses i mean.
2k from what i hear so between 1080 and 4k
More like q1 480p q2 720p
quest 2 looks terrible so i can assume the quest one looks even worse
Its mind blowing to watch 3D movies using oculus 2, almost better than the actual 3d glasses lol, thanks to Bigscreen!
I really like Bigscreen, but I rarely sit for an entire movie. Virtual Desktop is a great option for watching movies in VR.
I'm going to stick with my original Quest until its absolutely necessary to upgrade or another manufacturer comes out with something better.
Thank you.Great brackground.Waiting for my Quest 2.
Just got a job. Waiting for my quest 2 😃
hey! i cant wait to get my occulus quest 2! i already pre ordered the day it came out.

Same only one week!
Same for me too. In 2 more days tomorrow!
@@rjthewerew0lf rip. Not coming till Friday for prob everyone. Don’t get ur hopes up if it doesn’t come tmr 😭

DO YOU HEAR ME OCULUS
Am I the only one wishing you could keep watching while in pass through mode? Like can I do the dishes while watching? 🤣
If you watch one of the Oculus TV apps with the pass through home theme selected you can actually do this
kiwisoup what?! I will try!
It's looks great to watch movies on especially with the elite strap!
Edit: No i do not have the headset what I meant was that it seemed great with the elite strap as everyone says the original strap isn't great. Sorry for the inconvenience XD.
Curious how the elite strap helps. Is it just more comfortable for movie watching or is there something else you’re referring to?
I think the original strap may be better for movies
You're talking like you have a Quest 2 lmao
@@Zosh_ Maybe he does
@@OleSMM it's not even out yet
Honestly think if you get a battery pack and there's a bunch of people who have a quest they can all participate and maybe like a virtual concert or something

Same, it’s taking forever 😭
Oof mine doesnt arrive till 27th, that's what the expected delivery date is maybe the actual delivery date will be before....or after. Hopefully not after.
