I do this All the time AND sit next to my friend in the states while I'm in Switzerland. So we can watch movies together while living thousands of miles away. It's Magic
What equipment do you use along with your Quest?
VR is amazing
I've used this a few times. It really makes you feel like your in a theater! I love it.
Omg wow
Hey Lauren yep that's exactly what I'm getting this for - my Q2 arrives on the 5th. My bestie now lives halfway across the USA from me and she's going to get one too so we can be 'together' again. CAN'T WAIT to sit in the theater with her and watch movies
This video needed to happen badly. This is my favorite way to show people how VR can be useful other than gaming.
I was super disappointed after trying to watch movies on quest 2. Playing online games? It's all about screaming 12 year olds and roblox gang.
This was enough for me, I sell the device on eBay.
@@MyPhuckDub Why disappointed, what went wrong?
@@nicosoftnt it's not enjoyable, I would rather watch movies on my flat screen.
Can you use the quest to play cod on huge screen etc ?
@@BarryFromEastenders Well since you would be diminishing your field of view to include the "theater" experience (The room, the seats, the fake popcorn etc) wouldn't that be a less immersive experience? Why would you want to simulate a cinema and make the field of view smaller? If you want it so badly it can be done, however I don't think someone made an application like that yet.
I bought a quest 2 two weeks ago. and i streamed from my pc two Star War movies from my Disney+ channel on my PC using Firefox. I Feaked out. I was in a cinema watching a movie in a big screen with an astounding resolution...i was'nt in a simple room. It felt as i was in a thue cinema and the image quality was astounding.
really? I have Disney + and haven't tried it. Does it give any sound or screening problem while playing shows on Disney+?
I hope so much that streaming services pick up 3D content (again) (Netflix had support for a while when 3D TVs were a novelty, but shut it down after low adoption)
now that VR is on the rise that would get such a huge and growing market
paying for one or two movies in bigscreen from time to time is fine, but over time that could add up and streaming service type of deal would be much appreciated - by me at least and I think I speak here for many others as well
I’ve started collecting and archiving 3D BluRays for Oculus Quest use. I just need to find a good way to stream them since the files are just so big.
@@SummerSkyGal Me too! I bought a Samsung 3D tv in 2013 which was incredible. It works like a charm to this day, but I llent it to a friend since I needed something larger after all this time. We still have a 3D projector in our living room, though, which is awesome for watching Dune or something. 3D Blu-rays are also pretty cheap in my experience. Way cheaper than 4K. It's just a bit sad they don't include a 2D disc anymore most of the time. 3D never got old for me.
Have you had any issues with 3D content? The OU vids I've tried look sort of backward like the background comes to the front ahead of items in the foreground. SBS 3D videos seems to work better,
@@jeffreywilliamson4863 That means the right and left are swapped.
You used to have 3D books that had the same problem. If you looked cross eyed it would look inverted.
I got big screen after seeing your video bout a year ago. It's my go-to. Thanks for the great content
Thanks for this! Netflix etc need to get their VR act together. I think companies are jaded from the 2018 hype peak. Quest totally needs a Twitch app also.
Twitch works well on browser no complaints
Side quest Twitch APK
It will be awesome if they'll ad some sort of supporting apps overlaying, bc if you stream playing from headset, not from pc, you can't really have access to chat while playing
meanwhile I actually prefer watching 3D movies on my Q2 over watching the same movie in 2D on my 4K TV
even though the resolution is worse, the 3D effect is so good that the experience as a whole is way more immersive and can only get better in future headsets with even higher resolution
Gives you the sensation of watching a large screen.
@@quidnunc01 I agree so much on every point you brought up
@@angryox3102 exactly! and the 3D pulls you into the movie even more
But the resolution isnt even worse. Quest 2 is almost 4k.
@@lukalabudovic5385 the display itself yes, but the perceived resolution is a whole different story because:
1) you see only half of the pixels per eye
2) the image of a movie would be way too big to watch if it took up your entire FOV of around 90 degrees
the rule of thumb for the best viewing experience of a movie is that it should take up around 45 degrees of your horizontal FOV (if you went bigger you would have to move your head too much to see everything)
so if you do all the calculations you end up with about 916x515 pixels for a 16x9 aspect ratio image for a comfortable 45 degrees viewing angle
I just now realized as well that with the current resolution we can only watch movies in a quality that is something in between the usual 480p and 720p resolutions
but in defence of the Q2 it somehow still feels more impressive than that - like rather something between 720p and 1080p, leaning more towards 1080p
Excellent BMFVR. I utilize Bigscreen quite often. I do plug it in because it helps with stability with huge file sizes and the bandwidth required to play them, a 4K movie for example or a full Remux of a 1080p requires some horsepower that Airlink just can't seem to handle easily yet (I think it's limited to 100Mbps?) but more importantly I use it in remote desktop so the sound plays through my surround sound system in the office 😁 3D ? Forget aboot it, absolutely crazy nice. I've stuck with 3D Plasma/Projector as an avid watcher and this version of 3D is just crazy great. Thanks for sharing.
i pretty much watch everything other than shows in Big Screen now thanks to this channel
I just bought 2 of these rigs for my husband and I to play golf together. It's getting too cold to play outside (Canada) and I wanted something fun to do inside. We also watch tons of movies. Can't wait to try the cinema feature out as a group!!! New subbie.
Love the explanation. Thank you for the trip ❤
Was very nice for an on-board app. Thanks for the suggestion.
I'm still using my Google Gear headset by Oculus.. Just for the theater experience and I love it. The up side to that old original tech is I can put an sd card in my phone and have tons of full length feature films without killing my phone memory.. Down side,,, One theater choice. I'm leaning heavily towards getting the quest 2, primarily for theater.... This video has really pushed me towards taking the leap.. Watching a movie on the big screen in bed is really relaxing...
There is also the Remote Desktop, if you do not like to load files to your Quest2. I use VLC to play movies and adjust colors, as I think the color of screen is too much on the red side.
Thanks. This video may already be obsolete but I just had no idea where to start. ❤
I can finally replicate the imax experience at my home.
The last thing I want to do is create an avatar and be around people when i watch a movie in my q2.
Thos was such an awesome, to the point and entertaining video! Thanks!!!
One of my favorite apps.
I checked out Bigscreen the other night for the first time and checked out 3D trailer room. There was some kid in their making ghost sounds and I immediately got out. Haha.
Thank you. It's useful
Thank you for the video I’m a big fan of Bigscreen
Sweet thanks for this!
Awesome video! Thanks!
Looks cool to me. Thanks.
You skipped over Remote Desktop and Plex setup. Kinda important for streaming movies.
Excellent content and easy to follow, I've shared this with Friends.
Quick question, how / where do you get your movies from so there in the cinema aspect ratio?
interesting thanks mate
Thanks a lot for this recommendation I just recently got my quest 2
While I do like Bigscreen for what it is, I have one major complaint which actually sounds like it might have been fixed in an update that you mentioned. The issue I have is while setting up a room and inviting someone to come watch, our movies are not synced. My mom and I have tried to watch movies in bigscreen at least 3 times since we have had our Quest 2's and every time I set up the room and when she gets in I will start playing the movie but only mine starts. Even if both of our headsets start playing at the same time we eventually get a 3-5 second if not more of a gap between what we are seeing.
It is because you are the ones streaming. The data from the PC will go to your headset because you own the room, and from your headset, you will broadcast now the data to all other people to see. That's why you see the movie first before others even you both lives in the same house or same network.
I love the Netflix VR
Nice information Brother 👍🏻
I LOVE BIGSCREEN!!! Such a fun app
Love that this is free and I dont have to spend money on virtual desktop. I remember during dk1/dk2 days the only way to watch movies was via virtual desktop
I am so blown away by this! I have the Quest 3 and it's an incredible experience! I am seriously thinking of getting another unit like the quest 2 for my Wife or my Father to use and enjoy this together! ✌🏻😊
help me really really a lot !!
If it can incorporate Apple Spatial Audio for headsets for movies with Dolby Atmos going, it will take it to the next level.
So cool!
Skybox is AMAZING and the absolute best.
I can finally watch UP with my friends! 🥺🙂
Great movie!
Only reason I wouldn’t do it is no surround sound. Besides for that I love the experience.
i need a VR asap this is amazing
Bigscreen is AMAZING
Bigscreen still not supported in some EU countries...
You have good taste. Samurai Jack was my first watch in VR
The prime app is petty good, though I have had the occasional problem of if it crashing if I leave during a video. It is a bit slow too. Don't think it has been optimized for q2
Still love skybox and use it daily but I'm waiting for the IMAX screen update.
sflix had every movie thx so much
I love big screen
I find watching Disney+ on the browser set to fullscreen looks amzing! No 3D, but very cinema like experience.
I was going to mention this too. Disney+ even has a party watch option
Thanks for the tip 😀
Do you use the default browser?
@@Carnivore.A.J , yep! You should know if you've set up a pin for your account, the browser doesn't recognize it for some unknown reason.
I always use this app.
this is so cool
Kodi and bigscreen for PC work great
I wish I could somehow connect to a DVD player, I have so many home movies I burned from VHS to DDVD that would be awesome to see in VR, I still watch them all the time. If there were a way to do that, like use my Series X to watch disk based movies I'd buy one.
Thanks for this very interesting video. I would like to ask you if exclusively for this type of use (watching full movies from Netflix, Prime video, or videos from UA-cam) could the improved features of the Oculus Quest 3 or Pro give appreciable better results? Or what if for these types of files, the technical specifications of the Oculus Quest 2 are already perfect and even better ones would be irrelevant?
Thank you. Cordial greetings.
Davide.
Hi Thank for sharing......Question....I have a 65ich TV Sony Brava...since Sept 22......Need to know
1-...if my TV is ready for a VR
2-...and wich VR is the Best for Cinema Movie
Awesome content.
My group of friends use VRchat to watch movies. Here's a room that works with quest and the picture looks great.
Bigscreen is unavailable for renting movies and stuff in my country but I watch netflix on it sometimes for the streaming experience
Been using this for a while it’s amazing
This looks awesome. I really wish a system was capable.of doing what ready player one we did 😪
The is very cool!! Its really good to see other VR options other than first person violence. Is this still a good time to buy a Quest 2 or does Meta have another headset coming out this year?
New headset will be announced but you can expect that it is in a different price class. Might want to wait a couple of days.
I went into Big Screen for the first time 2 days ago and I have to say that there were people in there that were rude and kept talking during the movie. I learned that I would have to just invite my friends! Other than that, it’s great! Great video! I actually learned something! Thanks!
You can mute others. You can even go as far as to block/ignore them completely.
I mute others as I’m not a talker anyways
What's the point of a public watch along if you're all quiet? Just watch the movie normally if you want that.
@@cookieface80 what’s the point of watching a movie if all you’re gonna do is chat? Go to vr chat if you want that.
@@cookieface80 it wasn’t that they were just talking, they were talking so loud that I couldn’t hear the movie. I didn’t know about muting. People don’t usually talk at a movie theater.
I absolutely love the app and it has UA-cam but I have an account which has all my movies can I bought so many couple friends can watch movies that I have I love it because not only watch the movie but also talk and hang out big screen is definitely worth it if you want to watch movies with your friends in VR
Watched Dune like this!
Love Bigscreen, yet... I really do want to lay on my back and see it how I would like (even turning over on my side). There is one 'scene' in the bedroom, but it's not centered. Otherwise... ya... enjoying Bigscreen! I like the South Balcony. Yet, I switch around to various theatres depending on them movies or mood. Thanks for the vids... helps a lot for relative noobs. Hope all is well!
Will we ever get Hulu, Crunchyroll, or Disney+, or HBO Max as VR app options?
Bigscreen Beta seems to be limited to 5mbps which makes 1080p films look terrible while streaming to my friends. I'm on a 700+mbps connections. Have you found a way around the 5mbps cap? Alternatively, is there a way I can share a film with someone who is on my home wifi network with their own oq2 while sharing the same theater? Thanks!
Great video.
I wonder why the screens are so small...
Awesome
Doesn't low resolution of these oculus devices creste issue? I got oculus go few years back to watch 3d movies and so poor was the quality of image, i returnef it back.
Netflix should have a vr app like a virtual cinema where they can stream and watch together with other people who is also subscribed to netflix.
Dude this is just the best creation ever. Imagine just sitting in your garage smoking up a blunt and putting this on chillin watching a movie WHILE HIGH IN VR! Like this makes me want to bust my ass at work fr
How do you set up the media streaming service, man? Don't stop the video there.
Is there a way I can still use my home surround sound audio system while watching movies if the screen in VR is placed in the correct orientation with the audio system?
Is it possible to watch 2d shows in a foe 3d like you used to be able to do on 3d tvs? If so how do you go about it?
Watching uncompressed 3D movies in VR is the ultimate experience!!! I love it 🥰
I can guarantee your not watching raw uncompressed 3d video. The machine to play such a video would have to be a beast and your storage would have to be of a ridiculous size for one video.
@@tony2707 I rip the 3D disk using MakeMKV and stream it directly in bigscreen without any further compression. Looks awesome!
@@volt8ge thats not only not uncompressed but thats compressed twice
@@tony2707 I understand your meaning… once for the disk and second for the mkv. However, there is a way to play it on the headset without a third compression which is most commonly done (mp4). Where artifacts are clearly visible. Without this third compression, artifacts are not visible at all. It’s very clear and looks very sharp for 1080p.
@@volt8ge That sounds pretty cool! What do you use for streaming it?
I have 200 inch screen projector and wonder if vr screen bigger?
Cool
I have a little question I can't find an answer to online even after some lengthy searching: Can you see a difference between a Full-SBS and a Half-SBS video ?
Amazon prime video, if you can get past having to refresh it every time you load a movie is incredible with hi res movies.
What if I don't want to see any theater or room at all? Is there any Oculus player with just 100% screen for full immersion?
Guys, maybe someone knows, which is the best video resolution for perfect movie watching at Quest 2? Some or my movies show pixels. So I wonder in which resolution should I download movies, 1080, 4K, 1400? Thanks
Throwing the tomato at the screen was hilarious 😂
May I stream my pc and watch with my friends at the same virtual room?
Best ever
love your video, BUT i had a big problem i downloaded some tv show and movies, upload to my quest 2 and when i was in the plane, no one had sound, i wished to know, about what codecs this app supports, so in my case all the video file with ac3 dolby was not compatible, any list of the codecs that this app suport?, thanks.
Hi there, is this available for Mac computers, or the psvr2? thanks.
Will the psvr2 have anything like this?
Hi . I do like the movie theatre that Prime uses . I installed Vudu , but when I tried to watch a movie that I owned , it did not play it in a movie theatre look . How do I get that look using the Vudu app ? Also , how do I get the background black looking rather than that grayish black ? I don’t want to have to use my PC to bring movies into the Bigscreen app . I was very disappointed because the Vudu app did not put me in a virtual movie theatre like the Prime app did . Thanks
Love to see a live 3d sporting event.
I am still learning about this. Want to revamp my setup and have movie nights and have the hot dogs, pop corn, drinks and candy while watching new movies with friend and family that live else ware in the country.
what i do find strange is that when i want to stream my desktop the max mbps drops to 5 while normal it is 100mbps, so sharing a movie with friends is not doable with 5mbps. we have 270mbps up with fiber optics and we cant even use it for bigscreen.
I used to like samsung labs on the gear vr so i could use kodi and other movie apps
hope someday, this coud be a way to keep in touch with your family from far away.. as if they're standing next you and that you can see them in a hologram in front of you. and that you can see people in your gallery seeing them in hologram or in 3D form
When will we begin to see live VR concert or sporting events offered?
hi any chance you can do an update on bigscreen since recent update its been bad they have blocked full screen to watch youtube and cant watch netflix through pc anymore im sure theres more apps ect that dont work
@bmfvr: I hope you will do this again with Quest 3 headset comparing Quest 2. Your review will be my deciding factor to go with it. I like to know about SDE, Clarity, Color Reproduction, & Sound via Plex streaming, local file & Netflix/UA-cam app.
I was going to buy the Optimus but The HTC Vive costs $100 more but its really worth it as it has much better visuals where ray tracing in your videocard really comes alive. Fantastk video
In the big screen app is there a way to watch it while I’m in a recliner and not sitting straight up
