I have a cattleya that’s 25 years old. It currently has three blooms on it. It suffered some trauma during a storm when it was really bushy so I did lose some of the growth but the plant has survived beautifully. Before the storm it had 13 blooms on it.
This so interesting!! I like the idea of cutting the rhizome but leaving it in the pot! I might try!
Loved this video! Going to try it soon.
Quick clarification question… when you cut the rhizome of a Cattleya, but leave it potted… will the eyes on both pseudobulbs on either side of the cut wake up? So you’d have the division with the oldest growths now with a new ‘branch’, and the newest division would have its regular direction of growth, AND a new one?
So far, it appears that all my cattleya start developing the new eye somewhat shortly after the most recent bloom ends. Is that what you mean by predicting when the next eye is going to develop so that the new growths you create are happening close together?
Danny, what do you think about liquid seaweed? It seems to be a major nutrient in the hobby lately...
I think she had an old video about it years back
Hi, well seaweed has been around for many years actually, I guess the 'fashion' comes and goes depending on who makes what content 🤭 in my experience they don't do much ua-cam.com/video/958_x1jc9zE/v-deo.htmlsi=tBCgsyzg_gWVY1KK and I feel like the placebo is strong with this one, so I don't feel compelled to waste my money on them, I am happy with the results as they are :) I'm sure others will disagree
Can I separate an old dendrobium with spent canes the same way? I'm gonna try...
Can you please add timestamps? Thanks so much for your helpful tips and content!
I have so many cattleyas that just aren’t thriving
Hey Dani, after how many years can you consider yourself not a beginner anymore but an intermediate grower. And what about whatever is above intermediate grower. For reference I have been growing orchids (and watching your videos) for about a year now! Love your vids!!
Hi, it has nothing to do with years, just with availability to learn and experience. Only you know what level you are :)
I have been trying to grow orchids for the past decade, however, I was making a career by killing them. That was until I started watching your videos. Now I can consider myself an intermediate grower. Thanks Danny!!
I have had an orchid or many since before I got married in 1986. I consider myself a novice grower because I spent so much of that time with only a phal or two.
Great video. Thank you very much. I did create some Brassavola “specimen” by dividing them and repotting the divisions together but I didn’t really know what I was doing. Now, I know😍
Pls explain fertilizer..
Here you go :) ua-cam.com/video/3wVKQ6C3CUM/v-deo.htmlsi=rmvpYSDO1cI5fT1J
Thanks 🙏
