I absolutelly agree with a statement that your typical flower shop mini-phals can in time become the stars of your collection .. I got mine in a train station on my way home from a different city, it has been in a 4 cm diametr pot, 3 sorry ass tiny leaves and 4 blooms .. the shop lady locked it in a paper cone (outside temperature has been around zero C) and wished me "good luck with that one" .. at home I made some changes according to what I learned form Dani here and .. fast forward 3 years that same tiny orchid now has leaves 4 times its original size, but is currently sporting 9 beautifull blooms (which she had for a month now) and 8 more buds preparing to burst at the end of two flower spikes .. my friends are shocked when they see her transformation :D
I too love my supermarket phals! (The flower departments in supermarkets around me are incredible.) The unnamed mini phals are always there for me. Another favorite is my Roy Tokunaga variety of dendrobium (Roy Tokunaga "spots" x Little Atro "super spots"). It's been lush and blooming for months, vigorous and quirky and unique, with these blooms that look like a flock of tiny hovering birds.
Some of my favs that you inspired me to pick up from the old balcony days: Bulb Elizabeth Anne Buckleberry, Psychopsis Papilio and the Paph Schilleriana. My collection has grown since then, but these three will always be special to me.❤ Love from Canada.
Bratonia Kauai’s Choice ‘Tropical Fragrance' smells like pineapple then as you get closer more like mango. It is a very fast and easy grower, often two bloomings in a year. I had to divide it into 2 plants a year after I got it, and now two years later will have to do it again to each of those! Plus it is a "spider" and so it also freaks out visitors who know nothing about orchids!
Regarding fragrant orchids smelling like food, I would mention the miniature Cymbidium Eastern Bunny "Tsiku no Hikari" (edit: probably "Tsuki no Hikari", 月の光, believing Google Translate) which smells like freshly cut salami, a lot of freshly cut salami 😄
I want a Schilleriana so bad but all the ones that I see online for sale are pink and not that soft lavender purple that you have, which is the version I fell in love with. The purple-y version is on my dream wishlist for sure
I love the message behind this video! : ] I have a lot of "mini" phals that I got as under the table grocery store clearance plants. For many of them I ended up nursing them back to health from the brink of death. They were pretty simple when I got them but now they are not so "mini" anymore lol and they give me huge clouds of flowers every year. I couldn't agree more about your "wild card" orchid : ] all it takes is a little TLC and time
I think the last one you showed the Mini Phal Is the one I just got online They just called it a Miniature Phal but it looks just like the one you just showed last I'm learning all these. I'm a newly widow and can't gardening anymore and I need things to care for So I've decided to get Orchids and be serious about learning and growing them Got my feed me food and I'm ready to go with one Orchid that is several years old and my new Mini thanks Dani for your help.. Late to reply, but Hausermann (located in northern IL) has them. You'd have to mail order, but if you're looking on Etsy, you seem OK with that. I got mine there; haven't had it long, but overall seems like a very robust healthy plant.
I was really looking forward to the coconut fragrance when I got mine 3 years ago but it smells like old butter (apparently this happens). On the other hand, I purchased a schilleriana hybrid last year (phal. Diffusion) that smells like mandarin peel, has exquisite bright pink flowers and bluish leaves with dark green dots.
I also love the Frances Fox and waited about 3 years to get. Flowered this year for the first time 🤩🤩 I think like you, I will always have it even if it's a little big for my space.
Thank you for the info, I noticed that I might have the second one already🥳 I always assumed it was an unknown hybrid. The otherday I got phalaenopsis sweet memory and I'm so happy (defineli didn't drive 2,5h for it😅) Now waiting to see either Love potion or Autumn wind somewhere ❤
Omg 😱 🤩 your schilleriana looks incredible love that color is kind of lilac right? ❤ I recently bought a baby Schilleriana a baby Sanderiana and a Rothschildania I am exited to see then grow and thrive like that one 🥰 I love phals
Thank you, Dani, for pointing out that most times the Wow! Comes from caring for the needs of the plants. I really appreciate that. I have bought my first mini-phal. She has three blooms and one is almost spent. Her leaves are quite Matt. She was in a 2 inch (5cm) sphagnum moss plug. She may turn out to be a forced standard sized phal! That will be ok.
Schilleriana. Mine is tiny but has 2 flowers… I have 2 more also in spike. The Silver leaf Schilleriana I have doesn’t seem to grow that much and has no spike. I’ve had them for 3 years bought as young plants. This is their first bloom cycle for me. So chaffed🎉
I grew up with a suntan lotion that had a strong tropical "coconut" scent. That is what I am always reminded of when I smell a Maxillariella Tenuifolia. One of my favorite classic orchids. 🌺

Hi Danny! Can you make a video about cattleyas ,the sequential bloomers ,please? I would like to buy some, not waiting an entire year for a bloom. Thank you very much!
i had that big bundle on my mango tree back 32 yrs ago .someone stole the whole orchids about 10 pieces in my clamp on my wedding day so so sad for my mother😢😢😢
Hello. I’m from Europe, Malta actually, so we’re cut off from the mainland. But do you know from where I can buy orchids online in Europe? Thanks for the great videos you do. I’ve bern having great success with my orchids since I’ve been following you the past 4 years or so. ❤

Hey Danni, how do you get your max to make so many flowers? Mine has one right now and there aren't any more on the way. I think it went wrong in the winter rest.
My Schilleriana is tiny, but I’m having trouble keeping the leaves. Every time it starts growing a new leaf, I lose an older leaf. Any ideas why this would happen?
If the pH of the potting mix has become too low (less than 5.5), this may reduce intake of important nutrients like Calcium and Magnesium. Mature plants can endure this for long periods of time without symptoms, smaller ones not - I would start troubleshooting by measuring pH of distilled water used to flush the pot.
I have the exact same issue with my Schilleriana seedling. On arrival it had 2 perfect leaves and a new leaf emerging. As the new leaf opened one of the original leaves yellowed and came off. No problem, I still had 2 leaves. Another leaf emerged which would make 3, but then again, the bottom leaf yellowed and came off. I can’t seem to have more than 2 leaves. I shall try the suggested fix 🤞
