    Great review. I just got my Atom and am delighted with it. Some of the features have changed but all for the good. If you find the bottom pocket too floppy then you can put a stitch in it.

    Glad the pack has adjustment for ladies, often overlooked even medical anatomy classes just study male physiology.
    Your video is the most detailed one I've seen so far, even if others did the same is well structured. I'll be watching it again.

    I can't fault my Osprey Levity 60 which is 800g , I panic bought it 2 days before I did the WHW. I originally bought the Osprey Wren & returned it as it was so heavy & had painful stiff shoulder straps. My Levity is so soft & supple. I also use a bum bag, I don't care if its geeky 🤓🤓🤣. How exciting for your upcoming PCT , can't wait for your videos x

      I've just ordered the larger Roo Pack which I think will work better for me. Thanks for putting my mind at rest about this pack and the PCT - I must admit, after quite a lot of UK mileage, and also a trek across the Pyrenees in Spain it still looks like new. How was the PCT in 2021? I can't wait!

      @@TheAdventureGeek PCT 21 was wonderful and greatly miss it all. Such a diverse range of stunning scenery, it is a real treat. I started from Campo 9 May and California a drough year. Desert had very few natural water sources but the water caches were well maintained and wonderful trail angels looked after us. Hardly any snow Sierras and entered on 15 June. NorthCal had a wildfire closure as did Oregon but thats just the way things were. Washington is a treat and made it to Canada 22 Sept just as rain / snow started. It really is a superb trail and so excited for you

    I found your review very informative. I wish I had seen it prior to ordering my Atom+ a few days ago. As to the side cinch straps to tidy up the roll top, they can be requested in the notes at the end of the order, which is what I did. I also requested a four point hip belt adjustment like on the Mo. Now I wait.

    Great review! You should have little corner cut outs on the side pockets for drainage. The Mo has the vertical side compression straps. Shame about the bottom pocket, but the opening elastic should be rolled around a few times so that you can “tuck” things in and make sure it’s secure behind that “lip”. I love my Atom packs, think they’re great!

    • @TheAdventureGeek
      @TheAdventureGeek  3 роки тому +1

      OMG - I've had a better poke around my pockets and you are absolutely right, there are small cut outs in the pocket at the bottom. I will add an edit to my description (thanks for that). I will try rolling out the elastic flap and see if that makes a difference. Thanks for taking the time to comment Oz, this was really helpful for me.

    I have the Custom Mo too as do several friends - and I can assure you that liking being able to choose the colours is not just a girl thing as you suggested. Like you I find this pack very comfortable to carry - probably the best I have owned. Until I saw your video I hadn't realised other were also combining the pack with the Roo. I do that - and it does fit with the hip belt which is great as I think hip belts are essential for transferring some of the load to the hips from the shoulders.

      @TheAdventureGeek  3 роки тому

      I'm glad you like your Custom Mo (i'm tempted to buy one of their new Nanu day packs when they are back in stock for my club walks). What colour(s) did you choose? I don't have hip belt pockets, but I can't imagine walking with a full pack and not having a hip belt - as you say it helps to distribute the weight. The roo pack is great (and such a better name than a fanny pack!). Thanks for taking the time to comment David. Happy Hiking 🥾- Julia

My gear is 16 and aside from ditching the peg hammer, a mat and a mini blanket and my stove, and a couple of tiny sachets I need everything else? I think ha. Any tips. Last year I got doan to 12.5 but not sure how

    • @TheAdventureGeek
      @TheAdventureGeek  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for your comments. 16kg is very heavy, but if you are comfortable carrying that weight then that's fine. We all have our own ideas of what is important and what isn't. I use a website called Lighterpack.com to trim my pack weight. I'm down to about 9kg now, but for shorter trips it's more like 13kg (as I take a chair and other luxury items). I'm happy to look through your gear list if you wanted to send it through and make some suggestions. (peg hammer needs to go - just use a rock). xx

      @@yvemarybmusic Wow! Now that is heavy.
      Here is my latest wild camping pack list: lighterpack.com/r/wk6n4f (updated regularly).
      The best advice I was ever given was to spend money on the lightest "big three", and then you can afford luxury items. So looking at your top three:_
      1. Bobcat Tent - 1.9kg (is quite heavy). Something like the Lanshan would shave a considerable amount of weight and give you more room).
      2. Your sleeping bag seems like a good weight and your pack is ideal as well.
      3. You must sleep cold with the car windscreen thing and two emergency blankets / slippers / extra socks etc? I use a lightweight collapsable hot water bag (instead of a hot water bottle) which keeps me toasty, but it will also double up as a cold water bag to ice knees etc if needed. I've used it loads and is one of my luxury items.

Sometimes written comments don’t come across in the way it’s intended, so apologies if I sounded defensive. I’ve always rolled my pack in the traditional “dry bag” style, but then I saw a video by “Backpacking With Buckley” and he does it this way for a neater roll. I love the little poppers on this pack and also the roll top is better than a draw string pull. I’ll have a play around with different ways of closing the bag and figure out what works best for me.
